I have just ordered all my bits to get mine done for the summer. Will be watching this video again to follow it. With the heat shrink I use a kettle and use it’s steam. You get the neatest shrink. Cheers

Hi John - Thanks for the Flemish Eye idea, will use that on my next rig. Here's one for you perhaps, I have a slightly longer tag end and pass it back inside the ferrule, then crimp it. No tag ends visible at all to spike or snag. Cheers.

    Circle hooks are no 1!
    Started using them in 2001

I've never used or made a wire trace before so this was fascinating to me. Do you think soldering would be strong enough for binding the ends. Yet another little gem. I never tire of learning new stuff and this was completely new to me. Thanks mate.

Nomad - I think a solder would be too brittle mate if I’m honest. Some people use twists and knots but I find the Flemish eye and a crimp or two works best. 😉👍🏻

Hi, excellent video very informative. I wandered if you make the rigs to sell as its very rare to be honest I’d fish for the sharks an opportunist really if the situation arose while out on the boat. Reason I ask is I’d like to keep a trace and leader in my arsenal and can’t really justify buying all the individual items for one trace. I have a rod and reel which was given to me but again don’t think I’ve used it yet. Had a 300lb porbeagle a couple of years back while fishing in Weymouth (opportunity presented itself and narrowed gear from the skipper) and would love another if given the opportunity. Anyway thought I’d ask I’ve seen a lot of pre tied rigs for sale but you don’t know what your getting really thanks again.

What modifications would you recommend for making a tope trace? Hook size, trace length etc.
    Thank you again

Hi John, will be having a go for the blues this year, what knot do you use to attach the 100lb mono to your mainline? I'll be using braid mainline on fixedspool reels

Thanks for the instructions, most informative. What breaking strain is the wire you use? Do you use the same throughout or is the rubbing leader lighter than the biting trace?

      - I thought I said in the video what the breaking strain was? 490lb is a good strength and doesn't kink as much as lighter stuff.

@@thefishlockerworkshop Thanks for that, I couldn't find it on the recording and was just wondering if it was sensible to use 400 lbs on the biting trace only. I found some 175 lbs and 275 lbs, both 49 strand and thought that the question was worth asking. I hope we can get out soon, I'm going stir crazy here. Thanks, Neil.

Hi John what depth do you set the float at?

Hi, is the wire plastic coated or clean? Also, why don't use ue a swivel to attach to the leader? Great vlog. Cheers..

      - The wire is just clean - no plastic coating. I do use a coast lock snap swivel at the bottom of my rubbing leader. It is how I connect and disconnect my trace.
