- After assaulting a cop during a beach party blowout, teen rebel Chubasco (Christopher Jones) gets two choices: do time for the crime or join the crew of a high seas clipper and face the inherent risks of commercial fishing. Choosing the latter and before boarding ship, Chubasco elopes with girlfriend Bunny (Susan Strasberg) and then finds himself on a tuna boat skippered by the one man who’d rather see him dead: Bunny’s irate father Sebastian (Richard Egan). When Sebastian learns his new deckhand’s identity, tensions rise with the tides - and only one man may return to Bunny’s waiting arms. A solid movie debut for Jones, soon to achieve greater fame in Wild in the Streets, Three in the Attic and Ryan’s Daughter, this scenic romance also boasts a seasoned supporting cast: Ann Sothern, Audrey Totter, Preston Foster and Simon Oakland.
Underrated movie. Had he wanted to, Christopher Jones might have been a megastar. He was every bit as good as James Dean - and in my opinion, better looking. Although he was very private, he was kind enough to autograph a picture that I had sent to him via his business manager around 2004. I am very glad that people still remember him with affection. Mr. Jones deserved to be an A - list star - and for his fans he always will be.
He's great in Ryans Daughter, too!! I really like this movie and saw it the first time in tha late 60s.

Chris Jones could have been another James Dean, but it wasn't meant to be. He even had some choice roles but they led to nothing. He was supposed to be in Pulp Fiction but he turned it down -- big mistake. Then, Michael Parks could have been another James Dean. They both had the looks, could act, were promoted as James Dean heirs. But the magic wasn't there and their careers fizzled though Parks' did last a little longer. Michael Parks should have tried to resurrect his successful TV character into a movie role of the biker in "Then Came Bronson" he would have succeeded with that. He appeared in two Kill Bill's, From Dusk til' Dawn, Argo, Django Unchained, but he never regained the momentum he had in the 60's. Just poor career choices I guess or just not strong enough. Maybe there's still a little time for Parks. Jones died in 2014.

He mimicked James Dean. It's so obvious. There's only one James Dean.
James Dean never became the next anyone, regardless of who he idolized, he still brought his own thing. I can understand why men would want to emulate him, but actors should strive to be themselves, not their idols.
James Dean studied under Lee Strasberg, and did movies for Warner Brothers. Christopher Jones idolized James Dean, and did this movie for Warner Brothers, which co-starred Susan Strasberg, who became his real-life lady love.
