The fact that he forgives his son - a cannibal, murderer, the monster of Milwaukee…
But not himself… That is just so sad. I can’t imagine what it’s like for him. The guilt, the grief. It must be absolutely awful - especially now with the documentary that came out, reliving everything.
Also props for the stepmom. She didn’t even birth Jeffrey, yet she speaks of him as if he is her blood. Imagine your stepson doing these disgusting things and you still consider him your son.

It is heartbreaking. raising, loving and caring for your child. imagine thinking of the moments he spent with him at a young age. it’s so sad to think about it. must be so hard when so many people also blame the parent for forgiving the son. but at the end of the day that was his child that he loved and cared for

I've read all the books, including Lionel Dahmer's and I still believe that a lot of Jeffreys problem at puberty grew out of a mental illness inherited from his mentally ill mother, coupled with the pills she took during her pregnancy.
I remember having really dark thoughts when I was about the same age as Jeff did - around 12 -13. I don't remember wanting to kill anyone or thing outside of myself but I did feel strange and suicidal. Now, looking back I realise it was depression probably brought on by hormones etc. So, to me, the part of Jeff's puberty that was abnormal was where his thoughts took him. His took him outside of himself, and I think that's a chemical aberration that was born out of both nature (moms pills) and nurture. (Her leaving him and taking his brother.) His mom was so odd. I think it affected him a great deal. I believe a thing like that at a time like that, was
like waving a red cape at an enraged bull. Huge red flag.

It's like he's literally narrating from a scrip made for the reel, there's actually no personal account of any particular detail of his entire childhood, all he's saying are the typical thing that people play to pretend to. Nothing happens in a vacuum, and the father is not owning anything, "Jeff" now was an entire Angel and only was "off" when OTHER people seem him doing so, never in from of their parents. come on. He never laid a hand on him and he regrets it? Really, cause everyone got spanked at least once back in the day. He's lying and hiding the truth like a good Narcissist parent do.

Unfortunately his father and mother are the number one reason he became this way. He was left alone for months while being a heavy alcoholic. He committed his first murder when he was left alone for those months. I think his father and mother didn’t pay much attention to Jeff. Abandonment is all mental

Absolutely. Those are his youthful years not teenage one. Other than the fact that his mother left him when he's 18, his parents also divorced.. The most important stage of a human is their developmental years, which they weren't able to pay much attention with. It's sad it ended up that way, even if we blame his parents.. we can't change things anymore. I think his father is a good man, he sure tried. I hope he forgave himself though.

I don't trust his father. Look the ways he talking! It is too hard to understand : his son so good, and interesting man!

Its not appropriate to ask family of victims to forgive the murderer, citing the bible. Its too forceful and pretentious.

I’m all fairness even though he played with dead animals I don’t think anyone would assume he would be killing 17 people. As parents we don’t ever put our minds there about our children.
    Lionel isn’t to be blamed.
