    Great job. Well made video too. I’m doing this project this winter with some other rust repairs. I’ve got a 2004 manual 5.4. Whole beds are expensive and hard to find. Replacing the truck is just not worth it.

    I wonder if body adhesive, even construction adhesive. would be a better choice. The bolts are holding it down anyway, the rails just keep it in place. Body adhesive can be stronger than welds. Also less chance for rust.

      Probably could use 3M Panel bond. For me it is a time factor and I usually don’t have time to wait for everything to cure. Maybe someday I’ll try it.

      @@FullRange4x4 Yep that is true, there is a delay to install. But I know some cars use it for the trunk floor, so it is up for the job. Welding definitely makes metal more rust prone, this metal is very thin to start. I also worry it would wreck my linex.

      Dont think I'd be using panel bond for the center cross members. Its not a continuous flat surface due to the ribbing of the bed. I'd be okay with Panel bond if all the joints were perfectly flat for maximum surface area for the adhesive to bond to. During the repair I would use weld through primer to help the weld joints stay corrosion free.

    Instead of spot welding them can you use a nut and bolt to secure the frame to the bed ?

      Sure you could. I know I wouldn’t want to drill all the holes but I get it if you don’t have the means to weld them on.

    How you keep the sprayed in bed liner from flaming up while welding?

    • @FullRange4x4
      @FullRange4x4  Рік тому

      It’s a really tedious process. Either the bed liner needs removed or I will do a quick tack…let it cool for a few second and then spot weld it. It takes a little practice and the welder has to be dialed in just right to get enough penetration on the tack weld before you spot weld it in.

    How did you flip the bed over?

    • @FullRange4x4
      @FullRange4x4  Рік тому

      I tip these up by myself. I have plywood and stuff to lay under so I do not scratch anything up. Sometimes I do have the help for that step by most of the time it is just me. I recommend a helper or a good workout routine which I do have in place.
      Another option to look into is a DIY rotisserie using a piece of plywood bolted to each end and rolling the bed over.
