    Another quick method to get the bed bolts out if you have a welder is to weld a large nut on the head on bed bolt. The heat helps unseize the bolt and you can use an impact with heavy impact socket to remove bolts. The method I used and it worked great.

    Great video. I was just pokin' 'round under the F250 I recently bought on Autotrader out of Michigan. (Why, I don't know.) The rail nearest the cab is totally rusted out. I panicked a little but this video calmed my nerves a bit. The rail kit is only a couple hundred bucks. Now, just gotta ball up and pull the bed and do as you did. Thanks. Super helpful to see it done.

    Was freaking out when I seen this video and another as I did NOT want to remove my bed! I noticed my bed seemed a little loose. No other videos out there for my case. Also my bottom bed rails seemed to be in good shape. Noticed 3 bolts needed serious attention and either were seized and couldn’t tighten/loosen or stripped and couldn’t tighten. So took a grinder cut the 3 bolts from the top, hammered and punched them out. Went to Home Depot and got 3 close to same size galvanized bolts with big washers for top and bottom and lock washers for the bottom. Carefully placed 2 wrenches together from the top and let it bind against the side of bed while tightening the bottom by myself. Bed doesn’t seem to move now.

    Love this video. I just did this yesterday. I used a large impact chisel (Hilti) and ended up pulling a lot of the spot welds out, meaning a lot of holes. I'll fix (most of) them, but a sharp chisel or the grinder (as in the video) would be better. The bad part is I saw the read cab mounts --- all 6 have to be replaced and that's a worse job!

    My 2008 F-350 is in need of this very repair as well, and thanks to your video, I now know what is involved to complete it. I have taken my truck to a local body shop, as well as the dealer. Both told me right off the rip that I need to replace the bed, without as much as a glance underneath at its condition.
    In both instances it was clear that they were not interested in doing the job you showed in your video. Its replace the bed, or they can't be bothered.

    You can still attach the bed rails to the bed without a welder. Simply drill holes through the rails and the bed and put bolts with washers through it. It won't be as neat but it would still work with a bunch of 1/4 inch bolts, flat washers and lock washers.

    I did this to my f150 a few years ago only I bought thick square tubing the appropriate size. Much thicker and cheaper. Also I bolted them on with stainless steel bolts and large washers. The one towards tailgate I used the bed bolts and bolted straight through. The ones you purchase are thin and a lot more money. I painted the outside but coated everything in and out with fluid film. Will probably outlast truck. Just another option.

    There's a kid that has a video on the bed bolts. He takes and makes a PLUS with the grinder, pretty easily TAPS, the washer out with a hammer and screw driver. (Not much pounding) and then he has room to cut off the heads with the grinder after the washer is gone. Honestly, after watching about 6 video, "this kid" made it look fairly easy. I WILL SAY... after watching them, LIKE YOU SAID, it is NOT WORTH, even TRYING to get them out. EVERYBODY destroyed their bits and more.

    I replaced my crossmembers, also had to cut out every bolt. The new bolts you get now are not the T50 but a allen drive and is so shallow that when have to drive it in, the farther the bolt goes into the nut in clip, the harder it goes and I stripped out every one. The allen is just so shallow, not get a good deep bite to turn them. Every seller I seen sells the very same style bolts. The new ones are NOT as good as OEM ones.

    I'd go ahead and put the bolts in with a nut to make sure they are straight before welding..

    My friend is about to have his F150 bed supports replaced, this video explains what he's going to be spend his money on. Thank you for doing it.
    Can you do a video on frame crossmember replacement without removing bed? I have a 91 F150 that needs a new transmission support crossmember, like to know if that's possible. Thanks, Steve in PA

    Great video and narration. My '04 has bed rails that are in terrible shape. Imo, what a mess by Ford.

      Thanks Jeff! Car companies just don’t build stuff to last. Unfortunately it’s planned obsolescence.

    Stupid question can you just bolt these on if you don't have a welder

    • @InTheShop
      @InTheShop  2 роки тому

      Not a stupid question… you could probably bolt them on but to do it right that would be a lot of bolts and a lot of drilling.
