This is awesome...! I've been "harrassing" by this particular Windows 10 Update for months. Managed to hide it now. Many thanks!

Reconfiguring the Recovery partition to some like 680mb or greater is the only way that the update can be installed. The Installation Media for 10/11 must be updated to reflect the change for future updates/releases.

Well it looks like I'm keeping this update hidden forever then. It won't install for me and I'm not going to manually tweak anything on my PC for some useless junk from microsoft. This whole thing is stupid, it should have never been a problem in the first place

Thanks for your reply on the update problem yeah I understand where they wouldn’t want to risk causing any more problems sure. But I still think they need to fix it. Only because they caused the mess. I don’t know again. You have a point, but I guess the executives in the boardroom I guess say well we need to be careful. We have to basically put people risk in other ways and not something a little. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens but I’ve already hidden the update so it’s not gonna bother me again. Yeah someone said I think 600 MB or something for the recovery partition would be good. And I’m guessing for those who without issue have big enough recovery partitions whether that be created by the manufacturer or by Microsoft so I guess that’s what that comes from but anyway, thanks again all this frustration made me have a big appetite today so I had to go eat a large lunch. You have no idea What these things that are frustrating from Microsoft how big of an appetite that gives someone like me.

I have not cheked it. But they can fix/update the installation .iso file on their website, so that the problem is not the same when making a new install of Windows 10.

Hello, I’m back. Let me just explain a couple things that I’ve discovered. The Windows creation tool did create another image because I accidentally deleted it when installing Windows 10 on a new solid-state Drive so I had to re-create the image. As I re-created the image I think they updated it for a couple reasons. One is because the recovery partition is now 646 MB I believe where is the old version I believe the partition was, like 620 some megabytes I don’t remember was it 500 or 600 oh who cares. The point is, the partition was expanded in the newer ISO. So that’s why it installed good for me now. True I did hide it. But yesterday, I got really, really bored so I decided to play with the partitions. Just for fun you know. I was able to get it to work on one machine, expanding at another several megabytes but then on the next machine I was careless. So I decided, that because I’m doing my maintenance you know I reinstall windows every year. And it’s almost almost time to do that, but I’m just going to wait and with this new image, that I created on my flash drive when I do my maintenance, it’ll take care of it. so what people need to do if they’re bored or if they want to do it or as part of their maintenance is just wipe the hard drive make a new Windows 10 image with a flash drive, And then just start clean and it should take care of this problem. I don’t know how often Microsoft updates their images but it seems like they updated to reflect this problem. So new installations of Windows 10 should not have this issue. But if you still have an older flash drive with an ISO from sale last year, it’s going to have this problem. I’m guessing that Microsoft updates their images every few months so that people when they’re reinstalling or whatever don’t Have to Wait so long for such as big of an update. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong on that. But it worked for me so far. I already know this because like I said, I put it on a machine where I put a flash drive in it a state Drive and no errors on the updates. So that’s a good thing so if they can fix it a little bit, why can’t they fix it fully. I agree. Just make the script public and executed or better yet. Just put the script in that new revised update. Now the question is if they release this kind of update next year, are they going to learn from their mistake or are they going to have the same issue again? But something tells me they might not do that because they’re gonna be focusing more on windows 11 other things. But we’ll see. So thank you very much for reading and if people do that, I hope it works for them. I hope Microsoft for some reason doesn’t have to roll back an image because I know they’ve done that in the past sometimes but hopefully that won’t happen in this case, but I’m very happy that a mistake turned into a good thing. I had to re-create the image because I accidentally deleted it. But anyway, here you go and to that other person, I guess your recovery partition was fine enough that you didn’t need to worry about no error. Maybe your partition was a gig or something. I say that because I was doing some looking at the partition on the machines I haven’t done maintenance on yet. One of them was like 524 MB another one was like 530 MB in both cases not enough for the update so maybe this other partition this person‘s recovery partition was lucky and they got lucky Draw in the I will resize your partition to the right size lottery who knows. Ha ha, but anyway there you go. Have a good day all. And I hope everyone’s having a good day.

You can add the day of the week ddd preceded by a space to your date in your lower right screen display. I personally often forget what day it is!
I would also remove the counting seconds ss from your time display - i personally find that distracting

@@WCT You should be able to ALSO put the 1st 3 letters of the day of the week
ddd on the bottom date line.
I once put the garbage out on the wrong night & later added the day of the week to my display - never happened again. lol

Yea, I pretty much went with the Show/Hide Updates option.
Honestly, if there's some technology company out there smart enough to capitalize on this, Microsoft could soon go the way of IBM & such (as in eventually being shunned by mainstream consumers).

We (most) have no idea what can go wrong or not work messing with partisans. Stuff like sfc/scannow and DISM programs fine but not going into Programs and mess with them and end up deleting items. Heard dozens could not make it work nor which partisans just on your site. We did not make this mess, MS did. Now Win 11 is having problems an not updating from Win 10.

  • @tech.curiosity

They should just make a script to execute and release it to the public, its that simple.

    • @wildbill4496
      @wildbill4496 Місяць тому

Not really. Anytime you mess with resizing active partitions, there's always a chance of something going wrong, resulting in complete data loss. I don't think MS wants to deal with that potential headache. I would never do that myself without first doing a complete backup (all partitions) of the drive. The risk might be low, but it is there.

@@wildbill4496 There is also a risk of getting out of bed in the morning and also staying in bed. I did the resize on both of my desk top and laptop but if I had the info to just hide it first, that's what I would have done. There was very little info to make a decision of weather or not to worry about the update. If I would have known it was unimportant to most of us, I would have not wasted my time resizing the partition. As I was going through the process a month ago, it started feeling like it was an unimportant venture. I am now wondering if the partition is even necessary?

  • @alexbalex7299

Hello. We say that Microsoft can’t fix it that they admitted they can’t fix it. My first question is can’t or won’t? Secondly, it is true that I’m not a programmer and it is true that I don’t know anything about coat. But seeing about enlarging, partitions and stuff, I don’t think it would be that hard for them to release the update with a script that would also enlarge the partition to the appropriate size for a to work that to me just does not seem like a very hard thing to do. So why they won’t fix it I mean, please correct me if I’m wrong somebody but I’m going under the belief that they won’t fix it. That they’re slipping and they’re slacking off and they’re focusing on AI. Things that I’m not gonna use that much right now. Because I support jobs for people. But anyway, I am very disappointed in this result it is true that it’s been hidden for me. Thanks for the tool show or hide update tool that has been displayed. That tool has helped me hide driver updates that would either crash my system or updates that keep installing over and over like I once had a driver for my touchpad that would not go away the only way to make it go away was to hide it. Also had one of those Intel driver updates that would just crash the system. The system would be stuck in a loop going round and round and round. The only way to get rid of that was to hide it. So I’ve used this utility to hide other updates that needed to be hidden. I assume it’s the same utility. Anyway, thank you for sharing the news with us as always. And keep keep up the good work. It’s true that I could probably figure out how to resize the partitions myself but why should I do that. I pay Microsoft lots of money to provide me a program or an operating system. In this case that I’m going to use it is their responsibility to fix it not mine. I probably could do it, but I’m going to not do it because it’s their responsibility. One thing I almost forgot to mention I had to reinstall windows 10 from scratch on a machine. And when I reinstalled windows 10, I had to create a USB media drive for it with the creation tool. It must’ve been updated again because when I installed windows with the new flash drive that I created using the creation tool, a few things changed. First of all that update was not there, which leaves me to believe that either it was installed correctly with an enlarged partition in the installation media by doing the clean install, or, maybe in an updated installer they hit it. I don’t know, but in whatever case after I reinstalled windows on this machine, the error is gone, so I’m curious about that one. I did notice, though that the partition that we’re talking about the windows recovery environment was slightly bigger on the machine that I installed windows on again versus the machines that I’m having trouble with with this error, so I wonder if they included it in the updated version of the windows Installer. I’d be curious to know what people say about that too.

They do not want to take a chance as there will be some that it will go wrong and then it gets worse. They can't really fix it also due to the fact that some PCs have no recovery partition and that is different than those where it is too small

Today I received a notice that Microsoft will no longer support Win10 as of 2025. I had just enabled my TPM2.0 in the BIOS so I could upgrade to Win11 and this update from what I can tell is holding me back from getting the upgrade. My only choices at this point are to purchase Win11, Install Ubuntu or get a MAC. I haven't fully invested in Linux mainly because of online games I play that are not on the list of approved games. Purchasing a MAC, I've heard is great for developers like myself but gaming also takes a hit in performance. I may just have to purchase or build a new machine with Win11 but this is ridiculous seriously. No one should have to do this, it's not our fault! I already switched to AMD a few years ago, I may be making another one to MAC. Soo frustrating!
