- Passive Principles: Architectural duo, Sian Taylor and Mark Read, have designed a low-energy, sustainable family home in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, between Coronet Peak, Arthurs Point and Lake Hayes in the Wakatipu Basin.
Imagine having a bedroom with a 360-degree view of snowy mountains and crystal clear lakes, where you feel like you’re living within a set of Lord of the Rings. Situated in Speargrass Flat, just outside of Arrowtown, overlooking a landscape that includes The Remarkables mountain ranges and the vineyards of Gibbston Valley, Oliver’s Ridge House was designed to be energy-efficient, sustainable and healthy in response to its extreme climate.
Partners in life and work, Sian and Mark from Team Green Architects were especially vested in working on this particular site because Mark has a family connection there. “This place is historically very special to our family because it used to belong to my grandfather’s farm and it is where my mother grew up,” says Mark. “So, not only did we have the opportunity to design a beautiful house for great people in a magnificent setting but to install a legacy for the future.”
Its Very nice work and beautiful
One of the most beautiful homes I've ever seen. Will definitely use this as inspiration for a country house in southern Chile soon.
The material choices in this are wonderful. It's going to weather into its surroundings beautifully...
of all the masterpiece showcased on the channel this is probably the most honest and livable
I love the design of the house. It looks relaxing and welcoming at the same time. Great job.
Oh my!.........This is bloody good!!
These videos are inspiring. I just stumbled on your videos today and it is so amazing!!!!!
Fantastic!
Marvelous house, I would only change the roof for a green one.

whenever i see this kind of videos as an architect it makes me smile and full of joy , such an outstanding house , but i always wonder don't they get scared like they are in the middle of no-where isn't dangerous or what ?
Don't know where you're from, but this is New Zealand, voted the second safest country in the World, don't know who #1is but were chilled here,

I am wondering how much consideration went into the energy required to produce the materials used in this property. If we are going to promote sustainable buildings we also need to consider the footprint of the materials used.
What a Beautiful house, do you mind sharing the layout with me? Thank you
Hi Harriton, you can find the layout pics at the bottom of this link: archipro.co.nz/projects/olivers-ridge-team-green-architects
100 percent the best I’ve seen
How much
* (WELL NOW???).....it sure looks as if someone took their time to design and build one (AWESOME) home in a wide open area. So after viewing this video I must say that the music along with the people speaking are seriously on point. Hell I almost paused the video and poured myself a glass of Merlot so your pick of music was correct. But I saw a few problems that I need to address if I may?. You see in the video he had to walk the shades open and it looked as if he wasn't having a good time so why in the world didn't you install motorized shades?. And one other thing that I truly need to ask because it wasn't mentioned in your video and that is do you have automatic windows shades that can close off the outside view so you can take a shower or a bath?. I mean you have this beautiful home in a open area and what about hikers?. My goodness it looks as if someone will get a private show right outside your window without you knowing a thing?. And I wonder does this home have solar roofs? Hmmmmmmm? I sure hope so but if not then someone needs to add them A.S.A.P.!!!. Other than that this home is for a family or couple it's just that the privacy issue is a deal breaker for me along with the solar panel's if none.

No roof terrace, why? No,indoor swimming pool, why? No, green house, why?
Than: when the climate is a problem, why not a part of the house inside of a green house???
Why do they need them, its their house,

Beautiful house but we don't need the music. Let the architecture speak for itself. The music forces a false emotion towards the space.
what do you mean by false emotion?
How about minimizing the house,lol?
And the Hippocrates said save the environment! millennials understand , just don’t take my square footage away from me
I love it when people who bulldoze land for THEIR house in a pristine natural setting but talk about preserving the landscape. Hypocrite much?!
Too big
Its a beautyful house, but please dont try to sell this as sustainable, because the main materials concrete, steel and glass are anything but that. Spending that much money, you could have made better choices.
What a ridiculous claim, you are connected to millennials? You could not be more disconnected.
