This was so fun to watch! Seeing your joy and excitement about your trip just made my day, thanks so much for bringing us along. And whenever I’m feeling sad, I’ll imagine Joel running through fields hugging sheep. 😂
He got so excited every time he saw them! Most people were over the moon about the highland cows. I'm glad you enjoyed this!
Thank you. We had a blast, and yes the baby sheep were adorable.
😁
Thanks for sharing stories from your trip. My grandmother's grandmother, Mary Hoey, was born in Armagh; I've never heard anyone mention Armagh before. 😊 Famous for St Patrick founding his main church there and the Armagh train disaster in June 1889.
It's a town with a lot of history! What a small world.
I loved hearing about the trip. It sounds amazing.
It was such a great trip.
8:45 "Welcome home." 😮😢❤😊
❤️
I’m glad none of the ornaments broke during travel! 😅
Me too!
So lovely to hear about your trip. It sounds like such a good one. Teddy is just a love muffin. ❤️❤️❤️
Teddy is a pure cinnamon bun!
Such a joy to hang out with you guys ❤
Thanks so much!
Sounds like you guys had an amazing time! I still think about Ireland & Scotland and yes, I want to go back! My partner wants us to go to Italy for our next big trip, but my heart belongs to the Emerald Isle💚
We had such a great time! Italy was lovely, too, though.
I wish this were two hours long. So great to hear the joy in your voices . Thank you for sharing your trip. So enjoyable
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
Thank you. We could easily talk for 2 hours.
Thanks for sharing your holiday stories with us, Greg and Joel🤗
Thanks for watching!
Had a rough day at work and this was like a balm to my soul. Very fun, thank you.
I’m so glad to hear that, but sorry you had a rough day!
This was such a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your trip experiences. You guys are just the best.
Thank you so much!
Fabulous video! Love the coos!
Those coos are adorable.
You guys had a wonderful vacation! So glad you enjoyed all the beauties and food of my favorite places. There is a neat channel on UA-cam called "Living the Skye Life". They have two water spaniels who have what most dogs would consider the ideal life.
You are one channel I try never to miss. So glad you are back and happy about your many adventures. I also really like when Joel joins in. You are great together. If I ever saw you, I would probably be "fan girl" excited. So, look out if you see a white-haired old lady in Helena.
Thank you so much! Feel free to say hi if you ever see us. Thank you for the kind words.
I'm hoping I can go to The Briar Patch in Bangor this weekend to get a signed copy of Morgan Talty's book. I'm so excited to read it. Its nice to have other local authors getting recognition beyond just Stephen King :)
I hope you like it!
I do wonder if the tourism boom is more damaging than good, but for smaller countries like Ireland I guess it is a big part of their economy. Glad you had such a great time!
I have the same concern, which is a bit odd since I was literally just there as a tourist. 😬
You’re both so charming! I love these videos with you both!
Thank you so much. 🤗
Haddock is what you get for fish and chips here in Maine. Delicious! Laughing at Greg’s surprise in discovering seaweed. Lots of that here in Maine too. Such a gorgeous trip…. You make me want to go immediately!
Okay, so what I'm hearing is that I need to visit Maine ASAP. Noted!
@@SupposedlyFun yes you do!
I’m the subscriber that ran into you in Galway outside the bookstore, it was so cool meeting you both! Glad to hear you had a great trip ☺️
So glad you said hi! Wonderful meeting you! Hope your stay has been as good! Thank you for saying HI. ❤
It was such a fun surprise meeting you! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip.
Loved hearing about your trip and I've enjoyed seeing the beautiful photos and videos on Instagram. As a knitter I'm looking forward to seeing the sweaters! 😊
I've been having trouble concentrating enough to read lately so 5th of June and I haven't even started my Pride month reading yet. 🙁I've purchased a copy of the graphic memoir by Maurice Vellekoop that you mentioned. Hopefully that will get my reading mojo back.
I hope the Vellekoop helps you get reading back on track! If nothing else, it should read quickly--it did for me. The sweater package should be arriving this week, so we'll see!
I enjoyed this video so very much
Thanks so much!
thank you
The Irish are the nicest people on the planet. Sounds like you two had a great trip. Such a fun video.
Thanks! We met so many very kind people.
Can’t wait for you guys to read the guncle abroad.
I always love picking up Christmas ornaments from my travels. It’s a great annual reminder of a special vacation.
Teddy continues to be the star of this channel. I think he needs an agent. 🤩
Teddy has natural charisma for sure. And ornaments really are the best souvenirs! It makes decorating the tree so much fun. Joel finished The Guncle Abroad this morning and teased that he doesn't really want to say anything until I finish.
It's all about the ornaments. I just finished Guncle Abroad. I have thoughts🤔
@@joelmcclanahan9004 me too but we will wait for Greg to finish before we chat
I love all your videos but espythe ones with both of you
Thanks! I love doing videos with Joel.
I love Ireland and Scotland! So glad you had a great time.
Me too!
Loving hearing about your trip! I love Ireland and Scotland! I think Scotland a little more. ❤
I thought both were great. I'm so glad we were finally able to visit them.
I love the pretty Christmas ornaments. Especially the blue ones.
We found some good ones!
My top loves are reading and travel(also love baking!)so you two are right in there!
🤗 📚 🥂
I’m so pleased you had such a good time in my home country, Ireland and my home city, Dublin. I was so nervous before you went in case you had any bad experiences. There are so many more amazing places in Ireland to visit. You’ll just have to come back again. 🙂
We had a great time! And yes, still so much to see if/when we make it back.
We will be back, it was amazing
I could have listened to you for hours🥰!
Thank you!
I have always wanted to go to Ireland. Hope I get there someday! Thanks for sharing!
I hope this helps inspire your trip if you make it over there.
Thank you so much for going over your trip.. I really enjoyed it.
It was a great trip. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching, we had fun.
Fab travelogue, fellas! I was happy to visit Ireland and Scotland vicariously through you. Thanks to Greg, I kicked off Pride Month with the graphic novels, “My Brother's Husband, Volumes 1 and 2” by Gengoroh Tagame. Joel, if you’re reading this, how about taking us into the kitchen while you prepare something from the Guinness book? 🍺
I hope you enjoyed My Brother's Husband! I loved those volumes. That's a fun idea for a cooking video.
@@SupposedlyFun I enjoyed the “My Brother’s Husband” books so much that I’ve recommended them to friends. You’re a positive influence on my reading!
I would love too.
@@joelmcclanahan9004 Yay! Thanks, Joel. I just remembered that Guinness gives Greg migraines so I hope that if Guinness is cooked or baked, he can eat the finished product.
Thank you so much for sharing the highlights of your trip! Ireland is one of my favorite places! They also welcomed me home because I'm half Irish! Only a little disappointed that there was no mention of some of my favorites: Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Donegal, Connemara or Waterford. You'll just have to go back again!
There's always too much to do! Yes, someday we'll have to go again.
Hi. Loved the video. As a resident of Armagh delighted to hear you are connected. You visited a lot of my favourite places.
It was nice to finally put a name to where my father's family settled--and for it to be a place we had been so close to.
Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing your trip.
I was waiting for Joel to take out Greg’s nose with that huge Ireland book he was swinging around. 🤭
I’d follow a baking with Joel channel anytime. Hint hint.
Joel would make a great baking channel, but it would be a huge time commitment. We'll see!
Baking videos are hard for me. But maybe do a few more for Greg.
Been to Giant's Causeway too & loved it, beautiful area/scenery rain or shine.
It was quite a wonderful experience.
It was a very special place.
The castle is Dunluce (I assume at least that's what you are talking about)
That sounds right! Thanks.
I always wonder what you both do for work? I know that Greg previously worked in bookstores but now? And what does Joel do that he travels so much? I loved all your trip commentary. I have been to Ireland twice and I am majority Irish with ancestors from lots of differnt places...Dublin, County Cavan, Waterford... Also you inspired me to finally order "Tin Man".
I work for a distribution company that sells specialty cheeses. It is fun work, so I work all of Montana with stores.
I work for a corporate recruiter. It lets me work from home, which I can't complain about.
@@SupposedlyFun So long as it lets you read!😂
We have a friend who raises highlanders. There are a adorable and funny creatures.
They really are adorable. So much personality!
Can they send me a baby Hairy Coo? 🤣🤣🤣
#ideas4nextime fly into Shannon airport. Then you can do the #wildatlanticway, the ring of Kerry, Donegal
The Giants Causeway is very near Bushmills and you can do the distillery tour. Nearby too is the Carrickarede rope bridge.
Ireland is only 4 million. N.Ireland is only 2million.
Dunluce castle
Armagh is a cathedral city
We would love to do all of those things! Thanks for the suggestions.
love all that
I feel called out by what you said about italians 😂 honestly I see so many tourists everywhere and everyday, I can’t be bothered to interact with them and, to be completely honest, over-tourism is tiring and overwhelming. I reached the point where I pretend I don’t understand English when they ask me for directions, I’m a terrible person 🙃
As a native New Yorker, I get it. New Yorkers could teach classes on minding your own business. 😂
After night watch at least small joys, was,a,joy. Grey crises bobby is,also a book
I think there's a movie, too. I'm worried I would sob.
Teddy hugs your long distance friend needs love I just lost my dad Saturday teddy so sharing a hug with you
I'm so sorry for your loss. Teddy sends hugs! ❤️
I'm so glad you guys had a good time in Ireland and are safe. I'm French, but have been living in Dublin for the last 9 years. I've come to absolutely hate this city and was afraid you'd have a bad experience with the junkies, dirty streets, and terrible food. I'm glad you still managed to have a good time.
We definitely saw bits and pieces of that side of Dublin, but I think every city has highs and lows. But it's also easier to overlook the negative (or not see them at all) when you're only visiting. Very different to live with it, I'm sure!
I'm glad that you had such a great trip. I think you misunderstood how the Italians think. I think the exact opposite of how you see it is the case unless I misunderstood your view (sorry if that is the case). US Americans take genetics very seriously as can be seen by you knowing the percentages of where you are from. But whether you're telling them that you are 30, 40, 50 or 80% Italian is really not relevant. It's just a number, it's not about genetics at all, lived experiences are more important. And if you don't speak Italian (I don't know if you can, just saying in general) then you are obviously out in general. Someone with 0% Italian blood that was born and grew up in Italy and can speak Italian can be seen as more Italian than a US American with Italian heritage. So the Italians you met didn't think "50% is not enough", they simply didn't see you as Italian at all. You could have said 25, 80 or 90%, it wouldn't have changed a thing. Literally both of your parents could be Italian, but if you grew up in the US you're a US American, especially if you don't speak Italian. The percentage of your heritage is really not relevant to them. That does not mean that anybody who grew up in Italy is seen as Italian, this is not utopia after all, of course there is also racism involved, so for some people who have never been outside of Italy it can still be difficult to be accepted depending on their ethnical background, but they will still have a bigger shot at being seen as Italian than people who have not lived there no matter what their bloodline says.
I think the Irish actually agree that the percentage does not matter, but their reaction is just completely different, because the Irish are just super friendly and excited that you chose to visit Ireland and that you are proud of that heritage. Good for you, I'm glad you got what you wanted out of it. I think the differences between Italy and Ireland are also based on history, language and the relationship between both countries towards the US in general. Half of the population of Argentina has Italian roots. Now I wonder if their experience would be different if they visited Italy (not sure what language they would try to speak). This is actually a very interesting topic.
The difference I was talking about (strictly based on the tourist experience) was that Italian people don't really want to engage with tourists beyond completing a transaction whereas the Irish were ready to talk and get to know you. And the Irish people we met almost uniformly asked if we had heritage from the area, while the Italians we met only discussed it if I brought it up, and then didn't seem very impressed. What I said was mostly based on the experience that the Irish people we met were outwardly curious about our ties to the country and the Italian people weren't. It's not a bad thing or a negative about Italians (as a native New Yorker, I relate to not directly engaging with strangers).
Do you have enough ornaments for your whole Christmas tree
We may need a third Christmas tree at some point to hold everything. 😂
