Stuart, Your approach is first class, what a great channel! I really believe you are trailblazing with the quality of your videos (it's more like a mini tv programme). Precise, concise, systematic, informative and always upbeat and entertaining, thanks for your excellent work! We all note your extensive use of the multi-purpose pump clamps, they're great assistants, and they never take a tea break, couldn't live without them! lol

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

Yes I agree completely. Stuarts model of the bracing principle was the best explanation I have ever seen. Its something I always used to struggle with (ie which way they should go). Its amazing how often you see gates and doors fitted the wrong way round - quite often in TV and film sets lol.

Such straight forward, no bullshit information is hard to find and as others have said, your explanation of the bracing direction was spot on and it's so clear in my mind now.
It's worrying that I occasionally hear chippies arguing about this when your explanation makes it so obvious. Great work

Just came across your videos and I really like them. You explain things in such an easy manner, and explain in detail so that a lay person can understand. You are a grate teacher. My Grandfather was a master carpenter. You remind me of my father he also spoke in a easy manner and could explain things so easily. Even though he was not a carpenter by trade he custom made all my kitchen cabinets for my house (I had purchased a fixer upper that had had a fire and the kitchen was completely gutted). That was 30 years ago. I have his tools and a small shed.

Thank you!. I found your channel by accident and subbed after 30 seconds. Your clarity and presentation is first class and thank you thank you thank you for not doing the "just take your timber to your £5000 table saw then run it through your £1250 rebate machine and finish off with the £3000 auto finisher and there you are a homebuilt gate simply made". Most people will eventually end up with the tools you use but most importantly you show HOW things are done clearly and you approach things in a thoughtful way. I've never seen anyone explain cross bracing so clearly.

I only recently found your channel and I am so enjoying binge watching all your videos. In my 50's and I've always wanted to learn woodworking. When I was in secondary school, we had a choice between home economics and woodworking. I chose woodworking. I was told by the headmaster "That wasn't a choice. The woodworking is for the boys and the home ec is for the girls." I argued that I could learn all I wanted about cooking and sewing at home from my mother but I really wanted to do woodworking. The woodworking teacher was brought into the office and he told me "You'll be the only girl in the class and you'll be made FEEL like the only girl in the class". They wrote home to my mother about me being a troublemaker and I wasn't allowed do woodworking. Well, I say I AM allowed now thank you very much so I am gleaning as much info as I possibly can from youtube. Your channel is fantastic. Everything clearly explained and all delivered in a fun way. Thank you so much. For all you do.

Very well presented, informative and easy to understand, a first class video which I shall use to make my gate and fence panel. I only have one small gripe and that is, you used a large expanse of indoor area with large tables to build and place the frame on, clamp and cut the joints. I haven't got that luxury and would have to build the frame and panel on my concrete drive, which is fairly flat but not ideal. It would have been nice if you had built the frame in similar circumstances (i.e. on the ground)for the 'not so DIY' people and show any problems that may arise in building it out in the open but none the less thank you for a brilliant video.

So THAT'S why my shed door is dragging... They put one of the cross-braces in the wrong way round, exactly as you show in your demo. Now I know how to fix it. Thanks! 😁

I have watched easily a dozen "how to build a fence gate" videos and yours was by far the clearest and easiest to understand; however, I didn't see how you attached the 2 cross braces. Are they simply held in place by a tight fit?
