  • In this video we continue our grand tour of Slovakian railways with the second part of our trip from Košice to Muszyna (Poland), starting at Sabinov with our trusty diesel locomotive No.T478.1201, our train heads towards Plaveč through pretty towns and villages, climbing higher the scenery changes as the rolling hills give way to a more mountainous terrain. We descend a little to cross the Poprad (river) into Plaveč station where our complete train will be turned using the triangular junction created by the converging routes to Sabinov, Muszyna and Plaveč. Our train will be the first for a long time to use the Sabinov, Muszyna side of the triangle, which looked to have just been cleared of undergrowth to allow our train access. We finish this leg of our journey watching freight train movements at Plaveč.

      Hi, I should be taking part in my first German rail tour in January, I'm really looking forward to it. The lines we were about to traverse at 50:40 were the third side of a triangular junction, our train was the first train to use those tracks for over a year according to our hosts. Cheers. Tim.

    Just a thought that the original plan was to back the train up the northeastern leg of the wye(triangle) and then head back on the right leg of the wye the way the train actually took after backing up. It would have saved one move.

      Hi Roy, I have no idea what was going on, I didn't even include the photo run past in the video, but it was all good fun.

    Hello Tim, at second part again a cab ride to relax (except that strange train at Sabinov). At turn of train by triangle I got confused at the end: should not loco (with cam) forward enter the station? - Greetings, Heinz

    • @pega17pl
      @pega17pl 5 років тому

      Just watching third part I note train was really turned. But still confused...

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 років тому

      Hello Heinz, The train reversed out of Plaveč along the first side of the triangle, then ran forwards along the second side, finally reversing along the third side back to Plaveč station. It was a complicated manoeuvre requiring hand signalling because the second side of the triangle is not normally used.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Tim, I was confused train left station backwards and finally arrived again station backwards. Means railway station isn't part of triangle.

    Hi tim "MAGIC",Q why do all the overhead towers seem to bend when you pass is it the camera lens? cheer'bob.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 років тому

      Hi, Bob, it is the camera lens distorting the picture slightly. The camera has three settings - Ultra wide angle, wide angle and straight. I don't like the fish-eye effect of the Ultra wide angle, but I do like to include the countryside the railway passes through, the straight setting gives a view of the track ahead without showing much of the scenery. Using the wide angle setting the middle of the picture appears normal, but there is a slight fish-eye effect at the edges, shown by the masts appearing to bend.

  • @neilforbes416
    @neilforbes416 5 років тому

    I guess that "angle" at Plaveč can be a bit "tri-ing"(trying)! Oh dear!

    Po co cały skład był obracany za Plawcem w kierunku Muszyny, a nie sama lokomotywa objeżdżająca skład bezpośrednio w stacji ???

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  4 роки тому +1

      Pociąg odwrócił się od Plaveč, aby uruchomić wzdłuż rzadko używanej strony trójkąta w kierunku do przodu, przed cofaniem się z powrotem do Plaveč, jak pokazano w widoku Google Earth. Lokomotywa zatrzymała się na tym samym końcu pociągu podczas manewru. Celem było przechodzenie przez rzadko używaną stronę trójkąta.
      Google Translate - The train reversed out of Plaveč, to run along the rarely used side of the triangle in a forward direction, before reversing back into Plaveč as shown in the Google Earth view. The locomotive stayed at the same end of the train throughout the manoeuvre. The purpose was to traverse the rarely used side of the triangle.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 dziekuje za odpowiedź, na trasie od Muszyny do Tarnowa, a dokładnie w Stróżach jest identyczny trójkąt ale niestety nie stosuje się takiego rozwiązania do pociągów "retro". Świetny film, pozdrawiam ;)
