  • This fascinating day started in Košice, covering a return trip between Plaveč and Muszyna (Poland) along the way we are now back at Plaveč waiting for our crew to complete the required formalities to allow our popular diesel locomotive No.T478.1201 to take us over the highly scenic non electrified line to Poprad following the Poprad river for much of the way. This is Part 1- Plaveč to Spišská Belá zastávka, please lookout for Part 2 - Spišská Belá zastávka to Poprad.

    Many thanks for your reply Tim! I hope you can cope with your two jobs! I’m retired now and can be lazy...but your viewers really appreciate your professional work. I look forward to the second part and learning more about the High Tatra mountains. Best wishes, Rob.

      @@johnmchardy1229 Hi John, the News here in the UK is pretty depressing, I've given up watching it, I'd rather watch You Tube or an old episode of only fools and horses. These rail tours are fun, I'm looking to do Austria in the Autumn of this year. Slovakia was a real treat, great railways, lovely people and a decent pint of beer. Looking forward to hearing about your K Class experience. Cheers. Tim.

    Yep! Nice one! Notice you don't seem to be doing those sped-up videos much these days, Tim. Worried about sending viewers crashing into their computer monitors with the sudden stops? LOL

    Hello Tim! I really enjoyed this one...well up to your high standards as usual. However, I can’t find part 2. Have you uploaded it yet? I also found it interesting to get a rare glimpse of one of the 3kV d.c. substations...oddly sited right at the end of the system! Do they use solid state rectifiers or the good old (very old!) mercury arc rectifiers? Finally, another question...the beautiful mountains that can be seen in the distance...are they part of the Tatra range? Many thanks, keep up your excellent work

      Hi Rob, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, I haven't uploaded Part 2, work commitments are keeping me away for a few days, hopefully it will be up in 5 or 6 days.Everything electrical looked old, but wouldn't like to guess at which system was being used. The mountains are the High Tatras, we will be taking a closer look at them in the next few weeks.

    I'm a little confused. Does "Poprad" mean "River" as indicated by "Poprad (river)" or is "Poprad" the name of the river, in which case you should have made the text "Poprad river"?

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 років тому

      Hi, I wondered the same when I checked the name on Google Earth, the river is simply shown as Poprad as is the town. I indicated it in brackets as a river because it is not referred to as the "River Poprad", although it might have been easier just to call it the river Poprad, because Poprad does not mean river.

    • @melkiorwiseman5234
      @melkiorwiseman5234 5 років тому

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Thanks for the reply. It seems that the river and the town are both named Poprad, which makes sense. I guess that to someone from the region, the context would make it obvious whether the river or the town was being referred to.
      In English, it's common to use the name of an object with the object type without brackets eg "Poprad river" or "river Poprad" whenever it might not be clear that the name is referring to a particular object type.

    • @gardnersmith3580
      @gardnersmith3580 5 років тому

      I bet she would be proud. The Slovaks certainly are proud of their Bardotka. I would like to see Uncle Tim out there polishing up her . . . appendages.
      What we really need to see is Uncle Tim standing alongside the track filming her charging up the mountain pass in notch 8, belching big clouds of diesel smoke, chasing a gazelle, rather than purring along in notch 1 like a lap cat toying with a mouse.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 років тому

      Slovaks know a good thing when they see one. I wanted to see more of the train from the line-side, in a couple of weeks time I'll be posting a video that does just that. PS I might not have polished her appendages, but I did clean her windshield once.

      'You can't stop here!' would do as a translation. I think that person's part of the conversation goes more like, 'Get along with you now, don't stop here! Don't you realise mice cross here once in a blue moon? Sometimes even passengers! … Of course, just don't do it again, now move along!' Haha, remind me not to get a job there!
