  • Hi, we return to Plešivec and our “Grumpy” diesel, sometimes affectionately referred to as ‘Bardotka’ (Brigitte Bardot) due to its shapely front profile. In this video we explore another of the picturesque branch lines radiating from Plešivec, this time to Slavošovce, passing through pretty countryside and fascinating wayside stations, many with goods facilities still served by the occasional pickup freight train.
    I highly recommend following the progress of this train on “Google Earth”, copy and paste or type -Plešivec, Slovakia - into the search bar and click search.
    Sadly many similar meandering branch lines throughout the world have succumbed to competition from road transport, happily many still survive in Slovakia offering the chance to experience a traditional country branch line.
    Track gauge 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) - Original video taken on 2nd July 2018. Tour organised by RTC.

      Its not so easy to film the train from the outside on these tours as I am usually on the train. The camera has a way of picking up all the annoying noises, the cab of an old locomotive is full of rattles.

    Another truly wonderful video,I felt like i was back in the 50's,Loved the barking dog chasing the train,Is this a regular passenger service line or just for freight,I've been watching a bbc show called beechings tracks and what he done to british rail was criminal,Many many thanks tim cheers bob your number 1 fan downunder.

      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hi Bob, I imagine railways looked very much like this line back in the 50's and 60's. I remember holidays to North Wales where many of the meandering branch and secondary lines had already closed, but the tracks had yet to be lifted. I didn't have a camera back then, I'd just walk along the overgrown tracks dreaming that just maybe a train might appear, even if it was only the demolition train. Some railways had outlived their purpose but others should never have closed, if only more effort had been put into reducing costs and understanding the social benefits of keeping lines open. We didn't see any passenger trains on this trip, but there are recent photos of rail-cars at some of the stations on the internet, so I would guess passenger trains do still run.

      Thank you Neil, I couldn't have wished for a better result. I never expected battery life and memory cards to become the limiting factor as I allowed for up to 12 hours a day, some days I could have filmed for 14 or 15 hours if I'd had enough memory cards. The best is still to come.

    • @neilforbes416
      @neilforbes416 6 років тому

      Yeah, the secret is in having extra-capacity batteries and 64 gigabyte SD cards(usually micro-SD cards but you can fit them with an adaptor if your camera takes only the normal-size cards, physical size, that is). The battery may take much longer to recharge but gives you longer shooting time, even more if you have a couple extra juiced up and ready on the side. especially for the type of content you're shooting. Cheers, Tim!

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hi Neil, I use 128 GB micro SD cards and an external power bank, the latest GoPro gives a great picture, but it is also very memory hungry. I'm going to have to invest in 256 GB memory cards for future tours. Cheers. Tim.

    • @neilforbes416
      @neilforbes416 6 років тому

      What file type are you recording in? I understand(from experimentation) that AVI is extremely memory-hungry. MP4 is fairly light on the gigabytes. If you can set your camera to record MP4 files(if not already set for MP4), that may help. Having the external power bank is good(wouldn't mind one of them myself if I could get one to suit my Canon HF-R506 camera). Knowing there are 128 and256GB memory cards out there boggles my mind, but geez, I'll bet they cost a bomb!

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hi Neil, I record MP4, but to get the best out of GoPro cameras I convert the footage to .avi for importing into Pinnacle Studio for editing, for some reason the result is much better doing it this way. The big cards are tumbling in price thanks to Samsung.

      Good morning Chuck, I hope Sandanski is bathed in sunshine and you are feeling good today. I won't watch TV or read the newspaper today, I won't let those pesky politicians spoil my day. It's a beautiful Autumn day here, the kind of day that makes you feel good from the moment you pull back the curtains. Slovakia is a beautiful refreshing place, I grow to like it more with each video I edit. Take care. Tim.

      Good morning, or good day, Tim! So here are sunny and is smally warmly and today. But weather forecast give fall of temperature with the Saturday, alas! Probably I should refuse to view the news of science and technology, in general, much of what shows the Tube too. So I do to it as my completly ignor the TV, -- for company of the devil's Zombie Box, hehehe, -- when I was completely not views it since more than 30 years ago. And stupid newspapers to... So, now content of the YT cannel are fall too. Because over past 2-3th years, it has become especially clear how to catastrophically falls -- moreover, in huge number of areas of science and technology, with the exception of few really at least somehow developing -- so the level of competenceis is falls, but most terrible for me: as more falls presence of rationality and common sense of those items, who are involved in these NT areas; because for me, who has given many good years to participate in such works, it's especially sad now to watch all this! Have a nice day, and take care. Chuck
      P.S. By the way, for me it’s impossible to read current books also. Unlike books of the last century and earlier, in the "modern" books there are not drop of reasonable and eternal... Some stupid things and often frank vulgarities! -- so for needs of the crowd, entangled from all the now so many types of media... Humanitarian disaster that for some reason no one notices ... But I know why all this is so and not otherwise. And this knowledge does not add to me any joy of the life, much less confidence in future -- that is it does not add me, but only diminishes me the level of optimism. I remind you again: “A pessimist is well-informed optimist”, hehehe. And most importantly, it's a persone who can soberly think and not soar at "heavens" in rose-colored glasses... Good luck!

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому +1

      I'd better put my rose coloured spectacles away. “A pessimist is well-informed optimist” is a thought provoking saying. I'd better not become too well informed :-). Tomorrow I will be filming my local Heritage railway's Autumn Steam Gala (the Mid Hants Railway or the Watercress Line), it should be a good day out, hopefully the sun will shine.
      Once again I enjoyed reading your comment. Take care, make sure the bed bugs don't bit. Tim.

    • @chucksandos8939

      Hello Tim! In addition, at fresh mind in the morning. More than 30 years ago I came to know depravity of modern television of the last times, as they say, “from within”. And I was refused it completely, in moral disgust! At that time was appeared a pre-launch of the future Internet tools: its e-mail and the so-called newsgroups. Having taken up personal computers, I got access to them, and for the first decade or even 12-15 years, it was fairly clean source -- with exluse certain amount of politicization of certain part of very specific-minded people -- was I use this storehouse to which I eagerly fell up. At present, the Internet, having already become as massive as television in the past century, and also rapidly evolving technically, the Internet has now also become a pretty stinky cesspool and a devilish mouthpiece of all the same guises and clans! So now I’m almost ready to indignantly abandon the Internet as in whole. So, old wise Stanislav Lem, how exactly clearly did he foresee the future and was be right!... Yes, it's becoming less and less, so to speak, the “half-life” period of any technology and innovation: for starting with what seemed to be an excellent, useful tool for people, it eventually turns into its opposite! It remains relatively unencumbered by these banderlog only natural sides, especially mountains. That's where need me to go for good... And let the banderlogs, in novell by old wise Kipling, there down boast themselves present himself at the global "Vanity Fair", but then they also fight among themselves. However, invariably numb under gaze of the world boa pithon Kaa. ;-) There they all need it! But for me -- none!

    This is very weird. I'm sure I've watched this before right through, but now it's coming out at only 22:31 after the page loads instead of the correct length of 56:07. Even weirder is that it initially shows as the correct length and then a second or two after the page starts to display, it changes to the shorter time. Something has gone completely snafu with YT. The video stops before getting to 22:32. It's as though the rest of the video doesn't exist.

      Sorry, but no. For whatever reason, it's still coming up the same (incorrect length) for me. Maybe it's on my end, but if so then I have no idea what's causing it or why it only started going wrong recently.

      Hello Tim, when I was child and first time in my life at to me giant Munich Central Station I was a little bit shocked and confused about ending tracks at station. @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hello Heinz, we remember some strange things from Childhood, seeing trains running on railway lines that closed many years ago, I wish I could revisit those far off days. I remember visiting Liverpool Limestreet station with my Grandfather with its massive hydraulic buffer stops, required in case trains failed to stop on the falling incline into the station. Take care. Tim.

    Is that a drawing of a steam engine on the 50 kph sign? 48:07

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Signs throughout the world still feature a steam engine to indicate a railway, although very few still run. All the older speed limit signs I saw in Slovakia featured a picture of a steam locomotive.

    • @gardnersmith3580
      @gardnersmith3580 6 років тому

      Thanks. Because the sign is visible from the highway, I thought they might have put the picture of the steam engine on it so motorists would not confuse it. I did not see the drawing on any other sign in the video. By the way, Miss Bardot's bosom and butt seem to be the same.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hi, it would make sense to distinguish the road and rail speed limits, I'll be looking now to see if what suggest is backed up by other signs, as for Miss Bardot's bosom and butt, the profile would change depending on which way round she was standing. I looked her up for fun, no clues there - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigitte_Bardot

      That sign means maximal speed for train, the speed may increase after passing the front of the train behind the mark. If that locomotive picture above not presented, speed may increase after all long of train passed the mark.
