Keeping a healthy medium of technology and human perspective, I think, is ideal for any MLB organization's scouting department. Moneyball kind of proved you can't look at just stats alone as an indicator of ability. And scouts have to deal with not letting bias, unconcious or otherwise, affect their judgment. Basically, don't rely too heavily on just one tool. Technology should make things easier, not remove the human element entirely from the equation.
I think that's the key. Like you said, it's a tool. A big component at this point sure, but still one of many. You can't build a house without a hammer, but you also can't build a house using *only* a hammer.
Very well stated. I particularly like what you said about how a bias can impact scouts. Physical appearance (even if it's just height and weight) has a great deal of influence on scouts at every level. We've all seen the player who was promoted based on his size, only to be outplayed by someone smaller, who was overlooked. If AI can counter this type of bias, then it is a perfectly acceptable tool going forward. But AI should also not be the sole arbiter when there are so many other intangibles to consider.

Honestly, There's definitely a place for tech and data, but there's more than a few situations where the eye test is needed. Scouting is one of them.
What bothers me about this is that no AI is going to be able to predict “anomalies” and too much of it will eliminate the possibility of such - I.e players who go on miraculous playoff runs, players who spend years sucking to pivot to be hall of fame level talents
AI can’t measure a players character. Not always the most skilled that succeed.
I'm already seeing how "AI" (just old tools evolved) is getting into athletic development at the grassroots level, in that players without *exceptional* measurables - velo and effective spin rate for pitchers, exit velo and bat speed for hitters - aren't even getting looked at. It comes down to CYA, or a scout being able to say "hey, his numbers were great, there's just no way we can measure why this player soiled himself after his elbow started to hurt". It also doesn't account for athletic late bloomers. In baseball especially, if you're not on a radar by the time you're 16 or 17, you're toast.
There's cycles to this kind of thing. As this technology works out the kinks, some places will use it religiously, some will dismiss it, and we'll all come to a happy medium in a generation or two.
What *really* concerns me with AI is the same thing that concerns me when I look at draft boards and see a lot of sons of former players: this technology is going to continue to price those without means out of the sport. No one is going to even notice the fireballer in a poor community because he doesn't have the means to be tracked by Rapsodo or equivalent programs, if he even has the chance because he didn't have the perfect genetics. We're entering an age where even the chance to perform at an elite level is being increasingly restricted to those in a certain caste, and AI will exacerbate that.
I have no idea how an AI that supposedly only runs on stats would still pick someone over Ohtani as AL MVP. That makes me think that it either considers hitter and pitcher Ohtani as 2 separate players, or that whoever coded it put in some extreme biases

Basically, removing the human element makes it not so appealing to humans. Same with the umpires being replaced. They are like the 3rd team on the field, a real skill.

AI is taking over the world including baseball scouting. You have to have the human element in everything you do, without it baseball with eventually suffer greatly as will players.

Technology has not made smarter baseball players and fans because there is situational element to it that hasn’t been passed on to the new generation and since most people understand the numbers that technology produce, it’s easier for people to understand baseball through measurables instead of 1st and 3rd situations or when to suicide squeeze or hit and run. Teams don’t do it as much and fans don’t understand it
