As an american, toast with butter and sugar is a staple of kid made simple desserts. Hmmmmm sweet childhood memories....
I just realized my german granny has been throwing slav parties like everytime I visit.
Must be because she lives in Thüringen, which was part of eastern Germany when the wall still stood.
I'm not sure if you did this but as a little slav boy growing up in Ukraine if we wanted a drink but didn't have kompot what we did was we took water, added in a few tea spoons of babushka's jam to the water, stired it a bit and BAM you have great refreshing drink that's refreshing, quick, and easy to make. And a snack we made was instead of putting butter and sugar on the bread we added sour cream and sugar. The taste is amazing and just like the butter and sugar desert it's easy and tastes very good.
What? Your babushka did not make syrop from raspberry for this? You can even buy in store. How you can use jam. Syrup is exactly for this (and put on vanilla ice cream opa)

You should know that he already did a SHIT TON of cooking. Just go visit his channel. DUH. This is cooking channel afterall.
Denis Palchak, it reminds me of childhood, when my friend's babushka's babushka made blackbread with butter and sugar on it. It's sad she passed away last year, and his babushka is an alcoholic which is sad, so he has no one to make him kompot. What's even scarier is that she made same foods as Slav eat, and she was this ancient almost 100 year old Danish woman. It shows just how much western foods have come here to poison us, specially that soft drink Coca Cola.
It's weird that living in the south of Brazil, that's a lot of those Slavic snacks that we eat very often.
Thanks! Awesome way to learn about a lot of dishes!
Boris please, make another budget/end of month video and include the Bulgarian Попара/Poparah - it's made out of just bread, milk and sugar
You put 2 slices of bread in a bowl then at least 3 spoons of sugar and 1 cup of warm milk, hope you enjoy!
He should also include the egg cream made from mixing egg white for a long time. That shit will fill you right up, even if it's just one egg. I don't know if it has a name but blyat it's good.

Probably just in east Germany because I never ever have seen some of the ingredients in my life maybe in Russian shops but not in our normal stores.
Where you could probably see them is in east Germany since it shortly was part of the Soviet Union and because many eastern europeans live there
Nah I saw it only in Russian stores too, but I'm familiar with those because of my babushka , djedushka and others...
But those stores have got the exact same stuff.
And I'm from South West Germany (BW) so ....
James Lindsay big REWEs and kauflands have lots of international stuff, look for things with cyrillic on the pack. Also Schmand tastes close enough to russian sour cream. Getting kvass is quite difficult, but there are delivery services. Russian student in NRW here.
i find it that the russian stuff that you buy imported from germany tastes different than the actual stuff you can buy in russia
Here in east Germany alot of Boris stuff you know from Babushka cause the soviets imported it after WW2.
Western Spy checking in. I've had the privilege of tasting both Tarhun and Baikal (and Extra-Citro). Tarhun is like a sweet, mild liquorice drink. I like it plenty, but if you don't like liquorice you probably won't--the only flavoring is tarragon extract. Baikal, from what I can find online, is made with Siberian Ginseng, cardamom, lemon, and several other medicinal herbs. The best descriptor I can come up with is carbonated iced tea. The other flavors shine through and give it a taste much more unique than your average black tea, though. Between the two, Baikal is my favorite.
