Thanks for the tour. The shopping center where colosseum liquor's is did have a Vietnamese restaurant located there at one time. In th 80's it was a Vietnam veteran hangout. If you were a vet and you were cool you could eat in the kitchen at a table they had setup. Also in the shopping center was a pretty famous Arcade (pinball so on and so forth) 1 of 2 of the best in town. The other was located in a shopping center near Fayette mall before you hit Nicholasville rd on the righthand side before you hit Nicholasville rd. Anyway, thanks for the memories I left Lexington as a young man in 99 and you walk definitely was a trip down memory lane. Thanks again
I really appreciate these walks. I grew up in Lexington and even graduated from UK. I have since moved up to Alaska for work so if I am ever feeling homesick (which is often), I can go watch your walks. Great memories from an even better town
Thank-you for taking us around Lexington. Really enjoyable combination of the old and the new. The Big Blue building is so striking amidst the period buildings around old downtown. Also nice to see and experience the vibe of a college. 👍for the nice deed near the end. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts & memories of this town.
Hi! I’m from the Philippines and moving to Lexington. Your videos are awesome. They give me an idea of how things are like over there. Makes me less nervous about the move
Be sure to visit the public library when you arrive and they can connect you with resources and events for your family. There are free ESL classes offered at one branch of the library and if you have children they have lots of programs for kids as well
"The Square" was originally named "Victorian square" because the block was of Victorian era .. During the rebuild/renovation, the entire main street facade sloughed off
That style of Single narrow long buildings were actually and are actually ,called "shotgun houses.. because one could , theoretically, stand on the back porch and hit an intruder at the front door with the shot.
Gotcha. Lots of good food - but Louisville is a better food city. Lexington shines with breweries - great brewery scene. Bars are good but more choice in Louisville. Good news - only an hour to get to Louisville and only a little over an hour to Cincinnati. It’s a fun place to live - plenty to do
It's like most places it's size. Nothing good happens after 11 pm. Best to not be out walking around after dark, unless you're with a group of friends.
I'm from Lexington, we also call them shotgun houses. I think it's called that because if you fired a shot gun through the front door the bullet would go right out the back door because they are just shaped like a straight rectangle. Many date to the 19th century and a lot of them have been remodeled, especially in the historic district. They look very nice.

Lexington is my hometown.
Those long little houses are known as
"shotgun houses" Beautiful historical houses downtown.
Thanks for showcasing our town.
Glad you enjoyed it
We also have shotgun houses in Louisville, maybe it's a Kentucky thing.

Thinking of doing a travel job there. Is it dangerous? I know it isn't a big city but are there cool places to go like Louisville?
I can share that it is absolutely not dangerous. Cool places to go - are you thinking nightlife or hiking or what?
@@ThePerfectWalk Thanks for replying! I meant bars, restaurants, etc. It looks very similar to Louisville, which I like!

The city is beautiful but l wont be able to Come where because of l am in turkey , perhaps 30 years after
Go Wildcats.
What do I need to know about parking in downtown Lex?
Honestly not much. I’ve never not found a spot quickly and easily. If there is a UK home game or event at Rupp Arena - you’ll pay more
They're called "Shot Gun" houses
