As the King of the affordable gear, I’d love to see a Afforda-series similar to the “Sound Like” series. Using these affordable pedals to create rigs in the style of different players. Afforda-Mayer, Afforda-Gilmour, Afforda-Hendrix
YES!! Ryan, this would be so cool! You started with the Metal board and Ambient board, but I feel like they fell by the wayside. You have so many pedals that I feel these could be some really fun videos.
Any time I watch those Sound Like on a Budget videos, I realize that my definition of budget is very different from theirs. ;) I would be all over an Afforda-Sound-Like series. Cheap guitars, $20-$30 pedals (maybe $50 to $80 for multi-effect, depending on what they do... like those Sonicake Multi units with 4 or 5 pedals in one... they're about $80ish, so the math still works), small cheap amps... I think those are the hard part, but I really know almost nothing about amps.
(The rest of this rambles a bit. You've been warned.) Maybe like a cheap 1x10 or 1x12 cab that can be used to find cheap amps? Cheap combo amps are usually 1x6 or 1x8 though and speakers that small just don't have the same sound. Maybe something like the Joyo Bantamps or similar... Are there cheaper heads than those? I feel like that could be where it falls apart.
Oh wait... Put the Sound-Like board through a DI to make sure it sounds right, then see if you can get close with a cheap amp of some kind? I don't know much about the effects end of things yet. Honestly, I've put off bothering to learn because every demo seems to be out of my budget... Uh oh... This sounds like a "me" problem, not a "them" problem. ;)
would like this only to find the best Ram's head esque muff

Thank you for actually having a real clean tone. Too many UA-cam videos start a pedal demo with a “clean tone” that is anything but clean!

A horse pedal! A horse pedal! My Kingdom for a Horse Pedal!
They missed a perfect opportunity to paint a dirt pedal black with brown knobs and name it Road Apples. A blue or purple compressor called Castration. A tan delay pedal called Hay Bales. Should have had a better marketing team. I'm so high right now.
This made me giggle, and me too.
The Chinese do not have marketing teams. They make pedals as cheaply as possible, slap some letters on it, like KMISE, like what ever that is, and sell them en mass.
When they do have marketing teams, they sell the same cheap pedal, but in an a better enclosure, and branding materials, like they select an actual font, rather than what came native on their pirated windows pc, and they sell them just under the price of US pedals. Not a good deal. Waiting for a Chinese company to find a Chinese Jamie from Earth Quaker, someone who has an ear, and knows what is going on in music. Boom, then we'll get affordable pedals that are unique, odd, creative, innovative. Until then, it's the same pedal in new shittier enclosures, again and again.
@@alphanumeric1529 Dude you REALLY need to loosen up. It was a joke. Lighten up a little. :)
@@alphanumeric1529 yeah when they have that its the same pedals but say Mooer and cost $120 now
Then let them smoke weed - in those cut price pedal marketing meetings!
Liked for the horse puns. Don't ride them to often, they'll loose their kick.
That noise from the Vintage Phase is AM radio frequency. Common issue in pedals that don't have filtering circuits, usually removed for cost cutting. I've got a JHS 3 series Fuzz, in a certain gain and tone range, will pick up a very opinionated religious AM broadcaster in my area.
that sounds like a sample pack waiting to be born
interesting - I have the vintage phase and haven't had the noise - I kinda want to try to get it to make the noise and sample it out
Just wanted to say I've been watching for a couple months and I love the afordaboard series. Really appreciate what you do.
You’ve got some one-trick ponies in there!!!!
"A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse. I haven't had a winner in six months."- Robert DeNiro, Raging Bull
Clone List:
Classic Flanger - Boss BF-2 or Ibanez FL-9 Flanger
Ultimate Drive - Fulltone OCD
Fuzz - EHX Big Muff NYC (Mid cut is interesting though . . . )
Pocket Metal - EHX Metal Muff
Vintage Overdrive - Ibanez Tube Screamer
Dyna Compressor - MXR M102
US Dream - Suhr Riot
Classic Chorus and Analog Chorus - Boss CE-2 and Ibanez CS9 (not sure which is which)
Analog Delay - Boss DM-2
Vintage Phase- MXR Phase 90
Tremolo- Diaz Tremodillo
I could be wrong about some of those, but it is hard to track down Kmise clones.
The slight eq you heard between the two tubescreamers (Kmise and Horse) is likely due to parts tolerance and not different circuitboards.
I love how you can get your clean tone to sound like a surfer that just woke up from a fever dream
So true about inexpensive tremelo units either losing or gaining volume when you click 'em on. I've got two that do both. One completely chokes when you turn it on, the other one is almost like a boost pedal -- it bursts out ridiculously. Both are unusable in a live setting -- though the one that gets loud (an Xvive Undulator) I use for recording 'cos it's a really good sounding unit. But of course, you can never tell what they're gonna do when you buy one via the interwebs so a volume control is a good thing to have on a tremelo.
Hay...who doesn't love a good horse pun. Great videos, always love to see what's new in afford-a-board fashion.
I guess the fuzzy chorus should be called the "choruzz"
Be good for Shoegazers
I got their phaser and while my board is filled with some pretty pricy pedals, it serves its purpose for me.
Remember horse the band? Well how about horse the pedal? Or my favorite horse the flamethrower The kids love this one.
Just wanted to say...you rule man...you seem like a genuinely cool good guy.i respect that alot.take care and carry on.
That Musiclily is a Foxx Tone Machine clone, I am buying one, see how it stacks up to the Tone City Fuxx Fuzz. THAT pedal is the best $50 I ever spent!
Keep the Musiclily AND the Cuvave, I have like 11 fuzzes on my board!
"Hay or Neigh" was right there lol
Rev. Horton Heat approves of your shirt.
Similar to OP's point re: bad translations, I recently purchased an Asian product that came with a thank you note that said -- not "THANK YOU" -- but rather: "I LOVE YOU!" :)
On more than one occasion, I've felt tempted to offer translation services to sellers, in exchange for free product.
But what if the seller really meant what he wrote you? U should think about it dude
i started buying budget pedals bc of this channel and now I have a $1200 pedal board. gateway drugs
I am beginner with more disposable income than sense. I went straight for the boutique pedals shown on this channel... Alltough I did get Musiclily fuzz.
No kidding eh.
@@emossg lot’s of disposable income eh , must be nice.

that HB is worth the extra $. It's such a great playing guitar and the look is beyond. I just love silver sparkle guitars.
I just got the Horse Taichi its soooo badass and was only $16 off of Amazon, i went to go buy another one for my newphew and they quit carrying them.
I checked ebay, they're $23 to $27 nib shipped.
I guess I'll need to saddle up for this video
I have the Horse Classic Chorus and I like it. It adds a slight boost and tone change to my signal when on and turned all the way down on both knobs. I only own a few Kokko pedals (Overdrive, Distortion, and Compressor) but the Horse Classic chorus is my favorite.
I'm just past the unpacking, but I'm wondering "What, no centaur?"
Nah, those aren't horse enough for the brand.
The yellow Horse High Gain distortion is a clone of the Joyo High Gain Distortion which itself is a Marshall Shredmaster clone. Great distortion. The yellow Horse seems to be sold out now but the Aklot High Gain Distortion is the same.
Can confirm this -- just compared it to my Jekyll & Hyde, which is based on ShredMaster.
@@Markleford yeah cool to have a mini shredmaster clone if someone is doing a small radiohead influenced board.
Great review of the horse pedals! I’ve bought the ultimate drive , pocket metal ( awesome pedal) phaser ( no interference issues for me) crunch distortion and hi gain distortion which is an absolutely blinding pedal for the money … I’ll be looking to get the delay , flanger and compressor pedals after watching your video 🙌🎸🙌keep up the good work !!
Might as well get all of them. 14 X 25 = 350$, less than the price of a mid-tier guitar. Since they are small pedals, won't take up as much space
Self oscillation is always fun! 😆
Your playing has gotten so much better man.
Love the horse jokes absolutly
hay-larious
🐎🤣🤣🤣🐎🤣🐎🤣🐎🐎🤣🐎🤣🐎🤣🤣🐎🤣🤣🤣🐎🤣🤣🤣🐎🤣
Love the Wiggle Stick shirt! Is that brought to us by the makers of Shame Flute as well?
If these Crunch Distortion pedals are the same as Joyo's Crunch Distortion, they should have a trim pot internally that can make a huge difference in the tone. To me the two pedals sound like they're set different internally. I initially hated the Joyo Crunch Distortion until I found out about that and adjusted it.
Neigh, you are not alone giggling :)
Just came by to say "Hay".
Don't take any notice of the neigh-sayers.
I don't know ... I kind of like that fuzz . I've just never found a fuzz I like but something in that sounds different from any fuzz I've ever tried ... that might be the one I need for my Jackson King v
I know this is a year old comment but I really liked that horse vintage phase and Horse Fuzz together.
I have 12 pedal boards that have 11 pedal on each board. I can tell you that pretty much all of them are identical circuits for effect to effect. For instance the two knob choruses here are modeled after the BOSS CS2. They're all nice sounding though. You do get a bad one along the way. I have a few KMISE phasers and only one of them sounds decent. One was very noisy and one was unusably microphonic. But for the money you can sound really good. All of my boards except for three of them are equipped with microamps mounted right on the board. Joyo, TC Electronic, Moorer etc...
I liked the delay, the fuzz was okay. On the playground is where I spent most of my days.
chilling out, maxin' relaxin all cool.
@@60CycleHumcast While shootin' some b-ball, outside the school.
Count out the top 5 pics with your feet. Interesting analysis on the name Horse. Not as evocative a name as mustang, stallion, or aggie. At least they didn't call the pedal line Cow. Thanks for saddling up on these pedals.
@Ryan It could be that they expected them to be SO addictive that they called the line Horse. As in Guitar Heroin (Horse).
The fuzz seems a little like the joyo octave fuzz without the octave and a different tone circuit, I like it kinda of want one. Sounds like it could be cool for crazy leads or double tracked with something warmer. I was going to try a horse fuzz or ultimate drive but I think the KMISE versions might be a little more open and have less of that high end resonance thing.
Maybe the fuzz is a Shin-Ei SuperFuzz? The 2-way switch is very similar.
@Gupster 23 Yup, Joyo Voodoo fuzz sans octave. You would think since Ryan looks like a Chinese copy of Josh Homme, he would like copies of the Fulltone Ultimate Fuzz more.
Given the variable quality of these pedals, I can't help thinking that the ultimate affordaboard is one of those multi effects units. It works out about a dollar per virtual pedal in many cheap second hand units. If you don't like half of them then that's still only two dollars per virtual pedal.
i like the crunch and the fuzz
I think phasers are orange bc of phase 90 mxr
Yep , "Wylde Horse" never would have put Bill & Ted over the top... Flanger sounded best, really good. I liked the American Dream as well. It sounded better than it's board namesake. Those 2 I'll check out more.
crunch distortion sounded good too
These pedals brightness is unbridled.
John Kerry walks into a bar. Bartender asks, "What's with the long face?"
This could be a long comment section.
this joke is a real chestnut
Neigh to the Phaser and tremolo, I’ll sit on the fence with the drives, mods and delay, considering the price on these in the UK delivered for £16 opens the gate for many beginners or people getting into pedals.
These are definitely distributed by Kmise in the UK, and they also do clones of the Joyo R series such as the Nascar Delay, Tauren, Zip Amp but in different enclosures with different knobs, the Joyo nascar delay is £50 in the UK whereas the Horse Nascar delay is £25, Joyo Tauren between £40-£50 the Horse Tauren £24 delivered, I can only find one review online of these Joyo clones for the Horse Tauren and it actually sounds very good especially for half the price of Joyo, and yep the Tauren is a Klon clone, for £24 delivered you can’t complain as it does sound decent, whether it has that EQ issue you mention I’m not sure. Also the boxes you have received the Horse pedals in with the Gold label on the box is exactly the same box that the Joyo pedals are supplied in.
There is also a brand called Saphue pedals which are exactly the same as he Kmise range, same colours and knobs, cost about £15 delivered to UK.
Thank you for the demo but I don’t think I’ll be adding any of these Horse pedals to my stable.
Plus when they stop working you have to take them out back and shoot them. Real downer.
1:28 Y'know Ryan... I don't think I heard an obvious joke that could have been used any time the Horse pedal looked different than the Kmise... they were a different color... do you know it yet? "That's a horse of a different color!"
I like my tube screamer to be as nasally as Ray Romano.
31:37 does legit sound like a horse tho
As a fellow child of 90s and cartoon fan, I was hoping for the _"No sir; I didn't like it"_ Ren & Stimpy horse at some point. Can't say I'm not disappointed, Ryan
LMFAO! Oh, that would've been absolutely hilarious! 🤣 As soon as I read "cartoons", Ren & Stimpy is what came to mind 👍
I hope they got the pots right with the distortion pedal. I remember on one of the Kmise pedals the level knob was miss labeled. You pointed it out on your video and mine is the same way.
I just bought 3 us dreams 3 pocket metals and 2 California and they sound amazing for the price.
Horse makes a line of Joyo clone pedals (Uzi, Tauren, ThiChi, ZipAmp) that are cheap. I was going buy them but after watching this I'm having second thoughts. Thanks for the Matchstick men & you riff.
why?
horse puns...but I am so glad you reviewed these as i needed a stable review (bad dooom pa!)
I have that KMISE delay pedal. It works for me, playing in my bedroom with youtube on the TV lol
One of your horse jokes kicked me in the chest and I had to have my sternum sewn back together
That Horse Fuzz sounded a lot like the Black Rat/Black Secret pedals with the Turbo switch. RAT pedals bridge that range from Distortion to Fuzz and it's easy to see how a RAT clone could be named a Fuzz.
yeah the tone stack had a real rat quality to it, wouldnt be surprised if it started as a rat
Kmise-Joyo-Horse-Harley Benton .. probably all the same company.
I have the aklot fuzz it came in the same box got it today I like it,wanna get the digital delay next
Must have “Wiggle Stick” shirt
“Horse walks into a bar,,, bartender says why the long face?” 😅
Thanks Ryan, I have been curious about this brand.
Kmise, Horse, Saphue, the same same shirt.
That fuzz eq sounds like it has the same kind of sweep as a muff.
Horse pedals are being sold in the UK by the KMISE shop on ebay, but they don't look like these ones. They look like JOYO pedals, probably another KMISE crossover. EDIT - They also sell the ones featured in the video.
@Gupster 23 I wish I could help. The internet moves too fast!
They have Joyo guts not KMISE
Those need bigger knobs for better adjustment resolution. The bigger the knob, the finer the tuning available. Are they standard size shafts? Could you pull those tiny "knobs" and replace them with std mini knobs?
I'm curious what the Distortion/Overdrive pedals would sound like on a Baritone guitar. Might be better suited to low tunings.
I dunno, man. In my other hobby, PC building, there's a company that makes cheap products just flat out called "Asia Horse" 🤷♂️
Agreed.... Horse is a very strange name choice. 58:09 I heard "The Classic Horse was just fine"
I like cheapnis as much as the next guy, but I'm not chomping at the bit to get any Horse pedals.
You’re probably right about two things here, Ryan: that the meaning intended was ‘stallion’ or the like, and that you are indeed the only one laughing at the neigh joke. I may have to try that fuzz.
I’m just curious. What do you do with the other ones? Do you sell them? Are you collecting them?
HAY! I'm gonna head you off at the pass. Didn't know you needed horse puns so saddle up.I have a stable full of my mane ones I could pony up. Any more wouldn't behoove me. You would just prance to the trough with a long face and pitch them even though I am chomping at the bit for more.
NuX Makes Kokko and the old Amazon pedals
Is the tone... neigh-sal?
Did you get the "high gain distortion" horse pedal as well? It is a brushed gold color just wanted your opinion on it if you have tried it? It is a 4 knobber (volume, gain, treb, mid). If you have tried it please lmk what you thought about it, or anyone for that matter. Love your vids! I was a big fan of the ibanez smashbox pedal that you did a video on once upon a time and was happy to see a video validating my apprieciation for it
I have all the Kmize pedals not a bad deal for the money!
Ya it's your amp or program your running this e.q. settings that are bringing out that sound in these pedals
Man.... I'm getting a kick out of these pedals
The Horse Ultimate Drive is a Mini Joyo Ultimate Drive OCD clone you can run at 18v
You need to open them up and look at the circuit board and see if it's the same everything has the same numbers on the chip
"She's a Dayyyy yay ya Tripper."
I've got an SD-1 and a TS-9.
I think that I got the over drive pedal thing covered.
Actually I think they trying to ring of the Morley Steve Vai Horsie pedal . Just a play on name recognition.
Some good, some bad in that bunch. Anyway the Micro knobs and I'd pass on all of them, only because for $ 27, I expect Mini or Standard knobs at least on these size pedals even. And I probably can get an Amazon pedal with the knob size that I would prefer to the Horse brand. Can those Micro knobs have a Mini or Standard knob pressed onto them like other pots are ? As bad as the Kmise was, the Mini knobs ergonomically > Horse Micro knobs. The Micro knob just remind me too much of fine tuning thru the sweep rather than having the larger knobs easier sweep. I realize the sweep is pretty much the same, I just would rather have an increment of change be more meaningful than the micro sweep movement of any given knob.
HORSE PUNS!!
Fuzz…perfect Black Sabbath tone
The Horse pedals have a nasty raspy attack where as K-mise do not. I am surprised as when buying parts in quantity there is nothing gained in dumbing them down when it is all the same assembly line etc.
I love the Horse pedals for the money. I'm one of those skint people 😂😂
I have the Saphue Analog Chorus which looks like the horse pedal and it also distorts unless the input signal is very low, which is annoying. Anyone knows how to fix that?
Just the look of these thngs gets a 'Neigh!' from me.
Can we see the supposed Joyo clones like the Uzi or Zip Line? I bought the Horse Zip Line and it sounded good to me.
You tried Iset pedals, you tried Donner but not Rowin, you only tried the frenzy fuzz in a video unless I’m wrong. I would like to see a comparison between the Rowin pedals and Iset, Donner that are very similar.
Some connection to Joyo. Both have US Dream
Just got a Horse AC Sound...
I was hoping you’d have the 4 knob High Gain Distortion that I’ve got - sounds great but I’d love to know what it’s cloning
