I love how this scp will obey traffic laws, but fail to follow the literal laws governing existence lol.
Priorities
Meanwhile me in GTA5
As it should be lmao
Breaking the laws of reality is no consequence, but break too many traffic laws, and your insurance goes up. It's ridiculous
Hey, opening an inter-dimensional wormhole or creating an infinite looping area is one thing, but speeding through a residential neighborhood is just wrong.
"Gas was 10 cents a gallon back home"
Oof, this was the most painfull part of the scp for me.
Imagine his confusion when every corner he turned the gas went up 10c.
Or the extra nine tenths of a cent tacked on at the end of the price tag
It’s SCPs like this that make me realize you can’t fucking throw a stick into the air without it landing on some kind of *[REDACTED]*
You can try, but the nice men with the amnestics will be with you very quickly.
I like these ones where some extremely abstract principle somehow becomes a concretely active force in the world-It's like these people were literally just possessed by the spirit of "driving" itself, always driving on and on, never stopping. It's a tug that I'm sure all of us who've done a long car trip have felt to some degree, and what makes stories like this so interesting is the idea of taking that to its furthest imaginable extreme.
Life is a highway, and i wanna ride it all night long
😂
Thanks this song is stuck in my head now lol
Nice, looking forward to listening to this during my morning commute at 5AM
this one almost sounds like a joke SCP when you get to the interview at the end. Like the trope of the boomer family road trip where the dad is just obsessed with making good time
I miss when TheVolgun used 3D models and renders he made for the screen, not AI-generated artworks.
He had a tweet late last year saying that he had stopped using them.
Yeah, didn't kept it didn't he?@@Lanceweilder
A highway that robs you of your ability to comprehend time, and thus your only recourse is to drive till you die.
I feel like this was just a bunch of contradictions lol. "The vehicles cannot be stopped or recovered by any means, now here's how many we stopped and recovered by multiple means." "None of the occupants of the vehicles can ever live 60 minutes past recovery, here's a few that did." "We refuse to tell you any dates of any of these occurrences, but this guy got poofed in June 1938." "Here's an interview description of one of the ones we kept alive, we're gonna call him Adam for convenience. Also, we won't be calling him Adam past the first word of the description. So have some fun redactions instead." I'm sure there are more, but I'm sure you get the jist XD
This one would probably get me. I prefer traveling at night to avoid traffic.
So good and disturbing
Early Squad. 🍺
Wait, so were the pregnant instances, pregnant with adult sized fetuses?
I was wondering the same thing
Need us a Doordash SCP
Doctor Miller is so professional nowadays. I miss his little giggles and comments
Too many redactions.
PLEASE LOWER THE VOLUME, ITS JUST A LITTLE TOO LOUD TO SLEEP TO
Man that quiet, unscripted "jesus..." at the end was such a good touch. Really good delivery, you can really hear the interviewer's exasperation, fear, and bafflement all in just that one word
Well I LL be looking out for that unscripted "Jesus..."at the end.Becaude it really doesn't look like a video!!!
It doesn’t need to be keter to be interesting. Sometimes a bend to reality is all that’s needed. Something that still leaves a hint of mystery.
I still contend that some of the most interesting SCPs are classed as Safe.
just because it won't do anything if you put it in the box doesn't mean it's not frightening as hell.
Agreed. There are too many Keter SCP stories. Not that they aren't good. But I feel Euclid has more room for mystery. Ultimately, a Keter kills you. But Euclid can do just about anything.
This comment discussion is repeated on every video. We get it, keter doesnt equal better
@otheraj First time I've participated in one. Good to know it's a common opinion.
Like 052, the time traveling train, that one will leave you with so many questions
I love how you make the thumbnails so that there is a red border on 3 sides and when you complete watching the video it completes the border, it's these little things the volgun does that makes him my favourite SCP UA-camr
You will also notice the border color changes depending on what object class the scp is. Like safe is a yellow orange, archon is purple. And so on
He didn't at first!! We had to highlight to him that it was confusing us if we had watched the video already or not, and then he changed it to the three borders! Even better that he actually takes imput from his fans I feel ✨
Thanks for pointing that out
@@zonkleysome are very similar or exactly the same! It's based on a gradient scale rather than a step scale!
IE.
Red: Safe
Scarlet: Keter
Orange: Euclid
Etc
Most happen to be safe or Keter with the uncommon Euclid. All other types are (understandably) much rarer, with XK Class scenarios having been the fewest and furthest between. Sadly, ever since the 3rd volume (3000-3999), these rare, multi-planetary (and possibly multi-universal) threatening entities and events have been increased in article frequency due to the less knowledgeable modern authors searching for fear via shock value and disturbing concepts rather than sparking morbid intrigue via mysterious and improbable items, entities, events, and places.
Hopefully this will change soon.
*Edit: apparently this initial information is null as of the time of writing. I very vividly had remembered these details, but after finishing this video and searching for another... I saw that this is no longer the case. Possibly, it never was. Who knows? This channel could be an uncategorized/uncontained SCP
I noticed this too! Such a nice touch. This really is a fantastic channel.
Well at least they don't suffer (according to the interview). It's a mercy when the cognito-hazardous effects of an SCP make one content with what it does to you.
In some respects, they didn't suffer. In others . . . .
From the sounds of it he had absolutely no idea he was driving for 80 years in pitch black.
From what it sounds like to me is the SCP has both a cognitohazardous effect and a time altering effect pushing those affected forward in time to the next night every night while maintaining the same level of light for those affected while they drive
@@tigerfang6063 I think it's a cognito hazard, mixed with a really really long highway that once they exit they assume it was just a normal drive.
@@tigerfang6063 I read a novel in which a vanished person appeared only during the midnight hour but thought (reasonably) that he was lost in an endless night.
If I had a nickel for every time The Volgun read a highway-based scp, I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's anomalous that it happened three times.
You beat me to posting this by six minutes...
3 times (aerials and bio-luminescense)
I wanna say it's three
It's four. Could be six depending on what you consider "highway based."
I work in the roadside assistance call centre for mercedes benz for the German ,Austrian and Swiss market. U wont believe my reaction when i received a call from a guy who presented himself as Robert Battaglia. I at first wanted to ask the guy if he was joking, but then i pulled myself together
So when a shortcut road was built some unknown force of nature got pissed about it and decided to give folks in a hurry the means to REALLY get there fast. Except for the fact that it didn't want to let them go. So there they were, cruising everywhere all the time every night forever, "making great time"...But going absolutely nowhere.
The phrase "It's about the journey, not the destination" never felt so ironic.
That's an excellent nightmarish interpretation.
I thought it said that the anomalous nature of the disappearances was only _discovered_ because of the Interstate's construction offering a non-anomalous route through the area, not that it was known to have started at that point.
@@abydosianchulac2the video mentions that often what resulted in the disappearance was when the vehicle had no light on it, I took this to mean that once less people were passing through it was more likely that a car could go into an area where there was no longer the light of any other cars on it
Lonely highways are creepy as hell and this is a good example of the eerie vibes of said highways.
It's hard to say whether I'm more concerned over this one, or the one where people are stuck on an endless highway in pocket dimension that dumps them out once they've given up and died.
@@freezycastformYeah that’s SCP-7034 and then there’s also SCP-6819
Is that a video?!
I d love to see the video!?Where is it?!!
Please,answer:Where is the VIDEO??!!🙏
This is a great scp.
My favorite part has to be that all the horror is from the outside looking in. The people trapped in those cars are trapped and suffering eternally, but they arent aware theyre trapped, and dont seem to mind the suffering.
Given the curse effecting the vehicle and its occupants seem to end the moment it stops moving. My research proposal would be kind of insane.
Under the cover of a movie crew or a group trying to break a world record, or something similar, keep the vehicle locked in a chase. 4 cars with extended fuel tanks capable of being refueled on the move. Box the scp in so it cant do anything but follow traffic laws and stay in the box. Then, you lead the scp to a track, or otherwise closed loop of road and keep it driving. This will teach us a lot about its demanifestation. Will it just keep driving, will it eventually just disappear? This will show us.
Once the results of the track process come in, we can make some decisions. If getting trapped on the track prevents demanifestation for as long as its trapped, this opens up a bunch of avenues of study. Interviewing passengers while they are still in the anomaly. Administering medical treatment before the life preserving effects of the anomaly end, modifying the vehicle by say, removing its roof, possibly extracting passangers from the moving vehicle before letting it demanifest.
That's just insane enough to work...
@@thomasbraithwaite1381if its like a dream, use dream logic
Uneccesary redaction is such an immersion breaker. Why is the percentage of disappearing vehicles redacted?
A lot of those earlier articles were like that.
Okay, I like this a lot! You don't often see the Foundation going out of its way to rescue victims of SCPs, especially when recovery would demand such a large drain on medical resources and the presumption that they can offer little information of value to the Foundation. Makes me imagine a group of Foundation administrators seeing this thing, and thinking it is like a special circle of hell. "Can you imagine? Being forced to drive on the highway for all eternity?! No, we have to rescue those poor souls!"
They were incentivized to rescue these people in order to get witness reports out of them as they had no other way of figuring out what was going on otherwise. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have bothered.
@@rwberger6 I'm not sure that's true, the Foundation could have just focused on neutralizing the -1s. Instead, they pull in a specialized medical team, design non-lethal takedown maneuvers at very high speeds (i.e. RISKY). And if they really did all that to just get the first victim interview, they could have ceased rescue efforts. But the rescue efforts are still in effect, knowing full well what the -1s are, what they have to say about the SCP, etc.
@@daniell1483because they’ve only had one witness report so far. They clearly want more of them.
@@theorangeofallahpbuh1840 I disagree. From the one interview log we have, it is clear that the SCP exerts some sort of mental compulsion on its victims. It stands to reason then that any other people rescued would also suffer the mental compulsion to see their actions as rational (when they obviously are not).
@@daniell1483 They still need to get interviews from other perspectives though? Not just the driver but also passengers, children, etc. If there are thousands of -1s then they have plenty of opportunities for investigation. If something ended up too risky I’m sure they would leave it and just go for another car.
Its funny you can tell it's an old SCP article with the amount of redactions it has.
The older the article is the more redactions it has in it
In fact it is *Redacted*% of articles prior to the date of *Redacted*.
Me and my cousins grew up on a farm and the family lived on one road and we walked alot back and forth to the fields which were also up and down the road so we spent alot of time walking it but one part had a real thick canopy over it so thick that even during the day it was dark walking through the spot . The whole road was like that but nowhere near as thick and there was a tree that had a hollow spot that looked like a door belonged in it and we called it the Witch house . At night if we walked from the barn we ran through that spot . Even when i was older it still gave me the creeps. Lol . Even when i drove it it gave me the creeps and still does sometimes.
"No one is allowed to do this....except D-Class."
Oh...so its really bad.
“Did you stop at any time for any reason?”
“Why bother? We were making great time.”
Quintessential dad moment
I love these! I always feel like I’m in a lecture or something
Oh, I know.... & I think that was the idea from the beginning 😊
The interview makes me ponder if the disappearances aren't entirely random. If the SCP picks people already inclined to a certain manner of thinking. Making it easier to amplify those compulsions. The whole "Place didn't look that good anyway."
Granted the SCP could potentially just alter their mental state willy nilly being an SCP but it would be interesting if it was more targeted than the Foundation currently realized.
"This is the road that never ends! Yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people kept driving it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue driving it forever just because...." 🎶
"Hey Ben, have you ever been on the road that makes you old?"
its not the road that makes you old, its the asphalt on the road that makes you old.
I remember a highway somewhere down south that ran parallel to the one i was driving on, about 100 yards away. There were no on or off ramps, it ran for miles. Never knew I saw saw an scp
Ok, so the SCPs follow all laws regarding traffic. Now what would happen if the SCP foundation got some of the laws changed. Like for example, what would happen if the SCP foundation managed to introduce a blanket ban on all vehicles older than ten years driving at night? Or a ban on combustion engines?
The entity wouldn't care, I'm sure they would keep on driving regardless of the rule
Given how Traffic laws have evolved since the 1920s, its presumable that those manifestations wouldn't manifest in those areas anymore if it was illegal to be on the road.
@@Tazkar But that's already happened, since we're still seeing cars manifest from before the 1960s when seatbelts were made mandatory in cars.
@@abydosianchulac2 Seatbelts had actually only been made mandatory in the US in the 1980s. But to be fair, that's not exactly common knowledge and i'd say it's entirely excuseable for the writer of this SCP to just not have known about something like this and thus not consider it in his SCP.
is this SCP connected to scp-7034 in any way?
I don't think so
@@TheVolgunof course it is, all highways are connected
@@jonahszaro3545yes, connected via Rome
very similar.
Fu-- this is one of my nightmares made manifest, stuck on a never-ending car ride with my folks to nowhere...never heard of this SCP, and now I wich I never had, good one Volgun!
There's another very similar one...the victim is an SCP agent on his way to an investigation.....he gets stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and the highway becomes an alternate dimension, filled with smog ....the highway eventually leads into the clouds and eventually a tunnel where everyone that survived months of breathing exhaust.....now gets mashed up with their car.....sort of a car-human sausage.....😅
The voice acting in these videos is phenomenal. They all sound so realistic.
I was a little worried after the last highway one. But this isn't as bad. It seems almost like the other side of that one in some ways.
The Adam voice is great, I can usually tell it's you with some filter on, but the sound and the inflection really worked well with the great script as well. Great job on this one!
Some people writing SCPs have a bone to pick with their commutes
Interesting, you dont just blip to another plane of existence, you fully perceive everything and just dont feel like stopping until you blip back into existence, have time catch up, and eventually poof away. It's reality bending AND memetic.
This SCP took "Life is a highway" just a little bit too seriously.
Last time I was this early my girlfriend made fun of me.
That sounds like a personal problem
You might want to see a Doctor about that buddy.
Oh fuck... the last highway one bothered me so much I sent it to all of my friends
Awesome
i like to imagine the oldest instance is a flintstones car
Life is just like this SCP, and i don't really wanna ride it
Simple, but still somewhat scary. Interesting and great scp!
Imagine smokey chasing this thing
Mr volgun i always make sure to leave a comment about how lovely your content is to sleep to each sunday, but i think that gives the wrong impression. I truly and utterly adore your content and i look forward to each and every upload. I cant sleep without your videos, but at the same time i cant get by without em either. Your content is a massive part of my life and now that i reflect on it, it’s criminal that im not a backer on patreon already
That’s sincere my friend 👊🏽
Glad to know I'm not the only one who puts on SCP file lectures to fall asleep to. It's remarkable how soothing his voice can be, even when talking about assorted flavors of nightmare fuel.
"You can hang in a left or hang in a right

There's miles and miles to put it back together"
Nuclear hotrod zombies vintage street legal senses are tingling. 300km an hour would have them drooling ratfink style. (They also magically avoid non-zombie casualties)
These are honestly the only way I like getting up my info on the SCP continuum.
Haha just lost track of time driving, missed my exit

I'm a security guard on night shifts and the road towards my job are super dark and creepy I have work in 25 mins this got me paranoid😂

I just love non geographic location SCPs!!!

I love location based scps
Makes me think of the David Lynch film, also called Lost Highway. Great film, also terrifying.
"We've met before, haven't we?

TONIGHT:

And I *[DATA EXPUNGED]*
Good concept, and the Volgun did a great job as always, but the writing isn't the best.
Way too many redactions, an expectation is set for several interviews, and the single interview we got could've been better. In my opinion, the best SCP content exploits the tension between characters' understanding of reality as we know it and the reality anomalies impose on them. The depiction of a character futilely struggling to reconcile irreconcilable experiences can be the purest form of psychological horror. Having SCP-1401 survivors realize the insanity of their former perspectives while lucidly remembering how clear and rational the madness seemed would be unsettling in of itself, and if the resulting stress brought their mortality rate up to 100%, then "saving" them would become an interesting an ethical quandary.
Of course, the elephant in the room is prohibition against navigating SCP-1401 at night when it's explicitly stated that only the operation of automobiles authorized for use on public roads in America is affected. Heck, just have foundation staff use vehicles designed for use in the UK without authorization from the US government. "Look! A plot hole! Ding!" criticism is usually the worst kind, but this hole is huge, easy to fix, and doesn't contribute anything positive to the work.
Doesn't affect bikes or walkers either. Interesting, no?
are we there yet
It's strange how their minds were altered to see what was happening as normal. The odometer rolling over several times, never stopping, aging to death, running for 3 states with some bizarre excuse.
As someone who hates long car trips, this SCP is terrifying
Wait a tick - that's not an instance of SCP-1401-1 - that's just someone from Chicago.

16:16 Dr. Samesh: "You continued to lead the police on a chase for 238 miles1, across three states, before you were forced to stop. Were there no acceptable places to pull over at any point during the pursuit?" There is a spelling error with miles having a 1 attached to it.
Tbh i looooove these types of SCP feels very tight and contained (no pun intended).. A for Aerials was also a favorite of mine.
awesome
I need help understanding the implications of that interview 🤔🤔🤔 So, the people that vanish just continue their normal trip, not realizing theyre trapped in an interdimensional / temporal anomaly? Thats fucked up 🤣🤣🤣
Why dont they use SCP 427 on the SCP SCP 1401-1 instances to Help them recover to a normal state?
Its not just an interdimensional loop, it's a fucking memetic/cognitohazard!
I can't be the only one to wonder what the high end capacity is for the anomaly is right. Grab a couple dozen D class, stick them in test vehicles, and put them on the highway at night to track how many disappear.
How many road-based SCPS are there?
I wonder is any of the SCP-1401-1s have appeared on SCP-7034 Aerials, as they can appear on any paved roads.
You see Ruben used a yandere technique The technique is a technique That has to do with putting a soul within a person's soul even The youth if it we're to be used correctly like if he we're to say fine or okay They would say it too And it would cause friction on The soul And body...
It isn't the road. It isn't even that it HAPPENS on that stretch. It's the manner of thinking, brought on by
The implication that the alternate highway has been under construction for at least 25 years makes this so much more realistic.
Maximum Overdrive has the same road lol
I wonder how the people like this husband reacted when they were told their family died, or even shown proof of what year it was. It sounds like the people are aware time is passing but yet not aware at the same time.
So what exactly is the ocer all concept of this SCP? A never ending trip?
