You know it’s funny to think that in universe they’re very proper about the logs, yet a doctor saw that there were 7 types that correlated to sin and decided on that name. It’s always been a subtle thing that adds humanity to the foundation
it makes sense though... i mean each 7 colors ended up causing effects like a 7 deadly sin.

Strangely, this SCP lacks origin records. Quite possibly it was specifically created and used for Christian ritualistic purposes.
The only true sin in the foundation is bad documentation.

I love how even though these “extractions” seem to be correlated with “sin” you don’t become a “perfect” individual. Sure infusion can cause negative effects, but extraction can create problems to! Makes you wonder at what levels would be considered “acceptable”

Well that depends, the author did not give us any example of mixing the injections or extractions. We can only wonder what would happen to an individual with all 7 removed entirely.
The point is that sin is excess of human emotion and needs, lack thereof is equally bad

Yeah, no shit. It's like bashing you over the head with a simple concept that everyone gets near the start of the SCP description. I would say it's objectively bad, and yet it's a proper SCP and not a mini-series of light novels. It gets a pass, compared to the massive amount of horrible ones that exist.

I always liked more subtle SCPs like this. You can only take a cosmic devil so many times before it gets repetitive. Something like this feels more real which makes it more scary.
The ethical department is gonna have a field day with this one.
SCP authors really thought of everything when the extraction effects of Gluttony and Wrath, and only those two, can and are being considered for the usage of the foundation's endeavors.
Haven't heard of an SCP that's centered around the 7 sins until now, this one is pretty cool. Nice!

There is also SCP-434 which is a table with eight chairs. If you sit on one of the chairs other seven (7) copies of you show up with each representing one of the seven sins.
There is also SCP-1004 it is not so much sin as it is a program (store in a CD or diskette) that let's you s3arch stuff up the result is an image and if you click on it it becomes a video m8nd you it is all por, it does make you become more "unhinged" (you become a perverted person) the more you watch it.
Using these SCPs together could be a safe way to do so.

The author was not imaginative enough to write such events, lol. I think a testing log of many combinations would be fascinating, and would give the story a lot of much needed depth.

The article could really benefit from some combination test logs, especially all 7 extracted or infused. But considering the article number that's quite a classicaly writen scp

Something that kind of stuck out to me about this: Extraction of Sloth leads to ADHD. The opposite of sloth is diligence. Wouldn't it make more sense for someone with that sin extracted to become obsessed with their work?
This one had a lot of potential for testing logs and field activities that unfortunately weren't written.
I do very much enjoy the older SCPs. More of these please. :)

1133-6 Brown (Sloth) is interesting. Removing it creates ADD like symptoms which kinda makes sense? But I imagine it's something more like anxiety. ADD/ADHD isn't just being hyper or inattentive, roughly speaking it's the reward system being screwed up. It's why stimulants actually help calm us, which leads me to wonder what extracting it from someone with ADHD would do. Since it seems to just increase energy level and activity, it might fail to give the increased reward needed to counteract ADHD, while increasing activity levels. A more active mind going through intrusive thinking and anxiety, sounds horrid. But, applying more of this just numbs the activity levels, it doesn't treat the problem either.
This seems like it could be really beneficial if used right. I mean, I'm sure a lot of people on the internet would benefit from a fairly hefty 1133-7 extraction.

Unironically I think the possible beneficial effects of this SCP are drastically larger than the possible dangers honestly.
Seeing as only one machine is capable of ever infusing (at least, If I read correctly) it can be assumed that this would be pretty easy to get optimal levels of each respective type of sin.

Three Mental
Jealousy/Envy
Boastfullness
Hubris
The Catholic Monk Evagrius Ponticus combined Boastfulness/Hubris/Dismissiveness into pride and translated depression into a word that could be read as sorrow/Jealousy of another's success, which made it redundant eventually also.
in 590ad pope Gregory made the current list of 7 "official" so its been around a bit longer than Dante :)
A device like this could solve all the word's problems if it were found in most hospitals.
Extracting 1133-7 may help those being affected by SCP-597.

Me if I had unlimited access to this:
Light Green: Remain as is. No eating disorders and a healthy appetite.
Red: Probably about half or so out, because when I'm depressed I'm also irritable. Not getting testy on my off days would be nice.
Yellow: I'm not very materialistic already, so no need to change anything.
Blue: Probably like 1/3rd or so out. I'm not always proud, but when I accomplish something I have to really be careful to not let it go to my head. I'd like it if I could accomplish things without that issue.
Dark Green: Same as with Yellow.
Brown: Probably a small amount, like 1/4th out just so I could be a bit more productive. Nothing major.
Purple: Maximum extraction, prompted by destroying the extracted substance. I have no need for any of that in my life and the natural drives make for a painful inner conflict that I'd rather not have to put up with.
This seems like a really useful SCP on the D-Class, to make them more compliant or useful. Hell, you might even be able to completely turn around some of them and make them upright people with this scp.
I love this one and I find myself thinking of how cool it is every now and then.

It would've been even better if it was 8 types of sins, based on the older 'sin' mythos. (Sloth was originally two sins, it got rolled into one). But then again, there are cultures that recognized hundreds of vices.

Have you considered making some kind of highlighting on the text you're currently reading? I often read along but sometimes I have to look away for a second and have trouble finding the part you're currently at.

It does scroll as he reads it, so if you can figure out the sweet spot you could probably get by, but I agree. Could be handy.
Its usually in the middle of the screen, or a little lower/higher depending on the video
It is way better in more recent videos, but in some of the older ones (4+ years ago), the text being read even left the screen.
I did notice that he started to slow or speed up the text if it was about to move out of vision.
But it still makes me unreasonably nervous when I see the text getting close to the border lmao.
@@Gnulcho I actually created ACID.AIC, the software that creates the text crawl for all the videos since he returned to the scrolling text. It's designed to put the active text exactly in the same place, roughly right in the middle, as much as possible, although it will allow it to "slip" a bit when the amount of text per line decreases. So in videos like SCP-1534, where there's a series of short lines in a row, which take less time for him to read, it accelerates and decelerates the text very subtly over time so that it doesn't seem like it's changing speed at all.
But when everything is in paragraphs, the active line is now almost always within 20-40 pixels of the same place.

When I realized this was the seven deadly sins, I experienced a pretty severe eye roll.
Anyone else wonder if the SCP being read is conscious. I wouldn’t mind a sub-classification regarding consciousness for all SCPs.

Extract the SCP-1133-(1-7) untill you get what equates to 20 gallons on each, then put all 140 gallons into one D-class and see what happens.

Gluttony being just a food thing is slightly off for me. It's not *wrong* as ultimately this is a fictional work, but it'd make sense thematically if rsther than specifically food ot simply made that person easier to temp into *indulgence*. Drugs, luxuries, pleasure, food, drink. It's not lust, but indulgence. That's my only nitpick.

I like that the infusion as well as the extraction in large amounts has delitirious effects. It's a reminder that human nature isn't devoid of sin or wholly consumed by it either.
As an asexual, it's simultaneously really funny and kinda disappointing that #5 was the one whose extraction supposedly had the "least negative effects", while extraction of #7 regardless of quantity simply results in the subject becoming asexual.
Being asexual is neutral, being sex repulsed is a negative effect. Extraction of 1133-5 actually has more positives than negatives unlike 1135-7 which is marginally screwed to the negative side. I say this as an asexual.
