- I got my hand on an old dodge with a Cummins and a 5 speed NV4500. Now I have to figure out if it's worth repairing or do I use the parts for one of my Vintage International?
How do people find this stuff, make me jealous.
Lol forreal.
Yup jealous 100%
I got 3 second gens at my place come get one
he probably just bought it
If the frame is in good shape it's definitely worth fixing.
Keep it and fix it. It's not a bad truck at all. I have a 97 just like it but automatic. I get my Parts at pick your part auto wrecking and parts aren't that expensive. Tailgate $60, door panel $25, tires $20 ea. Greetings from San Diego California.
I had got my grandpas ‘95 running after 8 years of sitting and honestly this is more proof that no longer how long they will sit they always fire up
I'd love you find a truck like that, been wanting one forever
Owning a SRW 97 12 valve myself, that truck is clean. Get the parts and fix it, 4wd swap it. Most 12 valves start like that after they sit more than a day or two. Sought after truck you got there
Hi:
A lot of RV'ers are looking for a truck like yours.
Fix things to make it attractive enough for someone to buy by fixing everything in the interior that doesn't work.
Then:
#1. Install a # 10 fuel plate
#2. Put in bigger throttle springs
#3. Install a 4 or 5" stainless exhaust system to handle the added power.
#5. Go to Maaco and get yourself a decent paint job.
#6. Install electric towing mirrors.
A lot of it's value comes from not having to smog it, which means that the new owner can easily do a complete delete for tons of more power and economy while towing.
You should be able to fetch between 14- 18 K if not more.
Michael
I too would love to find these treasures
I'd keep it, 2nd gens are awesome
rea;lly? Im bidding on one in England
I'd leave it how it is. That thing is becoming a rare bird.
one of my dream trucks old but classic
A ‘97 3500 dually with 5 speed and a 12v and you wonder whether or not you will keep it!?!?😳😳😳😳. Me, I’m keeping it!!😂😂
usually tensioner is bad when it eats belts also use the green belt but please fix don't let another one bite the dust
Keep it. It might be worth a lot in the future 😮.
Fix it up
Very valuable truck do to stick
It sure is
It's up to you Jason. Love your videos.
Thanks 👍
Strong pickup
That’s a nice truck I would fix it up it’s worth it it will last forever. If you want to sell it let me know
I'm 50/50 as to place in a builder or if money is right, go a yard search and buy a engine for the builded plus cherry pick for the 97. I really like the duallys and have owned a bunch of them. You find one at a decent price and then someone insults you with a enough for me to buy a lot newer one... a year old to be exact and quick sale so no walking time. You would almost have to paint this truck from the looks of it, boy howdy, I would probably just because of nostalgia.. its a call I am glad I don't have to make. I would do no more to the cummins than wash, dowel pin, seals and mounts , and harmonic balancer so tuning went smooth. Either or, motor needs to come out and be gone as said through. as is that body alone won't bring what it is really worth unless find someone who is not worried much on money. Again its a hard call Jason
I would freshen it up, and put it back to work.
Haven’t watched yet, but I have a lot of experience with these Dodges, I’ll be surprised if it needs anything besides Fuel and a battery to start. Had my 01 360 Dodge since 2002, engine is still all original, never failed 200,000 miles of that 1500 acting like a 3500. She’s pulled quite a lot of vehicles. My 99 Cummins Dually as also never had work to the engine. Only thing replaced on either trucks is of course the Trans, both are manual swapped.
Still a solid truck an no smog in California she has potential im in So cal area i have 24v 2nd gem
I'd say donor truck Jason! Nice find my friend! Take care :)
Thanks 👍
That’s a sweet truck convert it to 4wd DRW you’ll have a beast!
Keep it you don't see alot of 5 speed 97
i would keep it i love those trucks
Keep it it is an awesome truck and I wood fix it if I was you
I’d Keep The Truck.
I say us it as A parts // vehicle 4 other Neighbors & or if U got Another Cummins / Diesel truck there just save the good parts from it 4 the one U got.. that's what I think.. Anyways .. br0
I would keep it I’m sure you could get a good amount of money for it
Clean the spark plugs and check for mice nests
It has no spark plugs
Keep it 4wd swap it and leave it a dually
nice find- but when u said the engine didn’t start the way i wanted to, thats because the thing has been sitting for so long
Yeah I agree how are you going to say it didn’t start the way you wanted. I think it started pretty good for sitting for a few years.
Car sits for 30 years in California Owner : all it needs is a battery
Lol it's true. In the north east it sits for 1 year it's junk.
@@bigmurph1447 Yes, a car or truck that sits for that long in NJ would probably rust into a pile of metal flakes or break in half after you put it in drive.
How's this dodge project coming along?? My uncle selling me his for 5$k Dodge ram 1997 3500 dullay 4x4 he slapped on the 24vavle Turbo diesel Cummings 6speed manual trans.
Keep it.
4 .22 for deisal ain't bad it's 1.90 a litter in canada
Besides the engine and trans, 2nd gens are shit quality. Nice find :)
Keep it and just fix it up.
I like that dog ig
Is it for sale now.that you got it fixed
How is the highboy going?
Same
I think you should keep the truck as a daily driver
You should fix the Dodge
I want it
12v fuel stays put even when off my does the same thing
I've got 2 96 Cummins Rams. A 2500 & 3500. Unfortunately, the 2500's body & frame have seen better days. So I understand your dilemma! PROBABLY gonna end up pulling the engine & trans from the 2500 & scrapping the body. Hate to do it but, the rust has just gotten the best of it! That engine & trans WILL find a new home in something vintage, like you're talking about. Sometimes you just gotta know when to say when. And that is what I'm saying to you! Would it be practical to redo your 3500 or just pass her along? With a running & driving truck, you won't lose money regardless! Best of luck with your projects!!
Just do it!
God how do people find this stuff
Put the engine on the international
U still have it? How much? Let me know.
Update on the truck
It’s beyond worth fixing
