I am a brown belt in jiu jitsu and I love judo, however alot of Judo isnt applicable in jiu jitsu just because the jj top base is really low because we also are allowed to go for the underbelt wrestling takedowns (I do alot of no-gi wrestling so its more natural for me, and way easier too). For this reason me incorporating foot sweeps is an amazing answer because I always play a threat of throwing you, just to fake it for the foot sweep. Mastering foot sweeps is an amazing arsenal to have in your game, and they are incredibly underrated, I hope to master them one day.
This is a good point but if you are fighting in gi and the person bends down to take away the single and double legged take down you can easily break there balance and use a hip or tai o Toshi style throw. I would say everything has a place as long as you know how to use it.
Ive never had a problem using my judo in jujutsu i sue alot of tani otoshi and hip throws but i suaally fake hip throws to get my leg behind people for a tani otoshi or de ashi barai or just take a back body lock and work for a gentle supplex or sacrifice throw i get alot of tai otoshi take downs on people going for double legs i sually can hop on one leg till they drive i to me and i rotate them into a tai otoshi at the same time or sumtimes ill let them think theyre gettin the double leg and ill bodylock them while theyre going for my legs and roll backwards into full mount with their momentum
@@maxphilps4253even without gi should be able to do that technique with one arm on elbow and other either underhook/overkook or headlock gets ya right into kesa gatami
My Judo instructor showed me the last combo you did this past spring. He added right side O Soto Gari to the end if the de ashi failed. The same day I used it in randori and scored ippon with it. Its my new favorite.
Your videos have helped me so much over the years. I recommend your channel to everyone I come across in the judo world. Both My husband, brother and me watch your channel. X
Great video as always. On the off chance you see this: First the background, summarized: I have had the same issue for years, even wrote it on the back of a medal "it is all in your head". Every sensei and coach, seem to say the same: I overthink, and I am a better "fighter" when tired or injured. So, if you ever feel like a topic that could surely help several of us: Something on mental training, resetting one's negative pattern, and how to get into "win mode" would be appreciated. (To be honest, I feel I have been taught that I am to lose. Not fun)
As per your instruction... ;) I like seeing the size weight disparity with Kevin and you. With George, it's almost the other way around. I'm small so it's nice to see how it is working on someone bigger/heavier than you...
Really good stuff! Some fine tuning and very much applicable for BJJ. Threaten with singles and ankle picks usually get the posture up and feet light as they back away. If not, just strong forward pull for an ugly stumble. :)
I train BJJ but am trying to work on my foot sweeps on my own. Any advice for a beginner, when i try to drill this stuff my partner and I just end up chopping each other in the leg lol
If you end up chopping each other in the leg, you might wanna put your foot closer to your partner's ankle : this way you will be able to sweep your partner like you would sweep a dusty mat. Besides, John is right: it's all about timing and kuzushi.
Got same problem teaching ashi waza techniques, so 3 points advice which works for my students: - Sticky foots: your feet stick to uke' leg and keep pushing, not low kicking - Aim for the destination: (that you are "sending" the uke's leg to), not the current position of his leg - Dont forget the arm: keep driving them to the ground.
Red took a chance by just ducking + side stepping Blue's Kizami Zuki and not worrying about Blue's possible subsequent gyaku zuki, just used a "de ashi barai" to throw & punch Blue. Very good ! (Red's sensei should be very proud of his pupil)
I like the video. The last sweep you did reminds me of the beginning of the ITF form Kwang Gae..which I'm certain is a throw. Thanks for offering me insight.
One thing I learned, you really need emphasize the word DE ASHI When you throw it. That’s half the of the kizushi right there 😂. But seriously, love your videos keep ‘em coming!
Love the video! I was wondering if you’d ever consider making a video about judo techniques under wkf karate rules. Karate uses osoto and deashi, and that’s about it. I’ve found a lot of success catching people off guard with other judo technique.
Love this video. I'm new subscriber. I wish you could also make video with female, self defense techniques for female. I'm considering judo as my new self defense. But I still have some question, whether I should really practice with female or male. As I am not that young anymore. Aw...so many questions.
Judo seems so much more complicated than BJJ. Maybe it’s the names haha but it seems like everything is very precisely timed whereas I have a little more wiggle room in BJJ.
It's a lot more dynamic when you're on your feet, so it's much more important to feel for the opening. You don't have the same amount of time to ruminate about your next move like in groundwork. On the other hand, that also means that you don't have to worry as much about learning crazy move sequences, specific counters, and counters to the counters
I think the ground has so much more "breadth" of techniques, because you can lie down in all kinds of positions relative to each other, and you get to use all four limbs in all kinds of ways, while when you stand, you are always head-up, feet-down, and there are just variations in stance and grip. But give people enough time to work it out, and they come with a lot of "depth" in their standing techniques and setups. You rarely get stuck on the ground where nobody can get anything working. In my humble experience of Judo standing, it can be very hard to get anything working when the other person is sufficiently defensive - so, there is a steeper learning curve.
Judo requires a lot more mastery of the body. BJJ is a bit more mechanical, probably a product of the Jewsh-Brazilian mind of the Gracies. Even the Ne-Waza philosophy of Judo is different from the BJJ one. For Judo and other Japanese martial arts, too much time on the floor means you're already dead.
Question, I'm a BJJ grappler, but my knees don't like it anymore, knees shields ect ect really suck now. So I was considering switching to judo, do you think it'll be easier on my knees than jits?
I am always under the mindset of; When being an Uki, expect to go 3/4 force at each and every time you train, but do treat each person accordingly by capability.
Man there is one kid who is born in 2010 but he's like really tall in our school and he is a black belt in judo and I remember about 20 or 17 guys tried to attack him and he sweeped one guy and it made theme scared
I just have missed this video. Kevinsan is great uke but no one beats George with the long hair. Between youtube and judo fanatics not sure i’ve ever seen someone get ragdolled more times haha. To be fair to Kevin, still not sold on short hair George. 🤷♂️😂🙇♂️🥋
Been training BJJ for 4 years now (Blue belt) and I've been occasionally catching people with these and now everyone's asking me if I'm a judo blackbelt 😂😂
1:18 sasae/hiza - de ashi

you're a saint.
Kevin is a fantastic Uke. His breakfalls are very graceful while still heavy enough to make the throw satisfying 10/10
yes!

I love the progression of intensity!! sasae, Ko Uchi, DE ASHI!!!!!!

Absolutely 💯
Awesome. This year (2024) I have so much to improve on in judo, but Ashiwaza is on my list.
This video is a great help ! Thank you.
Love it. Kevin has a good sense of humor
LOVE THE THROW/SWEEP COMBO VIDS!
Your videos have helped me so much over the years. I recommend your channel to everyone I come across in the judo world.
Both My husband, brother and me watch your channel. X
Foot sweeps are my favourite. Its low effort to execute and very subtle in terms of attack.
I love your videos. I compete in Armored Combat and you've helped my grappling and throw game so much! Just wish there was judo in midcoast Maine 😭
This is one of my favorites so far!!! Krystek would love this because he thinks ashi waza is perhaps the most important thing to work on. Great stuff.
Returned to Judo after a 30 year hiatus, always had trouble with De Ashi Harai. DEFINITELY incorporating the circular setup next class!
Your sweep combos are beautiful and logical! I can’t wait to practice these keep up the great work 🐐‘s

David Goggins....doesnt have mental limits.
Think of it as a self defense situation so you can't lose.
Break a bone, fight through it. It should solve that issue.
@@ch0wned EXACTLY JUST TAPE THAT SHIT UP AND GO HARD.
Another great instructional video! Tnx Sensei
I love Ashi Waza!! Excellent video!
The best lesson on footsweep combos I've seen. Hajime!
like all 5 especially the last. nice work guys
Beautiful! I enjoy the humour too!
Beautiful foot sweeps Sensei
Love the set up
As per your instruction... ;)

Amazing vídeo, i'm waitting the next

Very clearly explained. thank you.
Thanks for the instruction Sensei

Make it slow and patient, maybe start doing this in slow motion for catch right timing and graduallly increase speed.

If the sweep is not perfectly timed you are going so kick each other. I found deashi barai the easiest to get the timing right on when I was starting.
So great for any player, especially those that want to use footsweeps often.
Liked and subbed. Awesome channel, quality content, very well instructed, and leads to other trips reaps throws to flow to.
Your content is priceless

Nice. Done the last one with ko uchi to start off with that works well too. Ko uchi, o uchi, de ashi
Uncle Shintaro!♥️♥️♥️

Beautiful.
Hello from Greece 🇬🇷
Ashi Waza really is like magic when you catch that person perfectly.
Great tutorial, as always. Also, I would like to formally request permission to use your enthusiastic scream of, "DE-ASHI!!!" as a kiai.
Kinda hard. Kevin is good, but George got thrown into another dimension. And returned
Nice combos

Is there any way to practice these and other throws without a partner?
My coach told me that I'M the best dummy.

Great, I will try these on this Friday's practice but hopefully my opponent's have not also watched this!
Gold!!
Did that hurt?
Yup.
Made me laugh too much 🤣🤣
but what if you don't have a grip on any of the clothing?
George or Kevin? Shintaro!
how effective is that at 1:57 to begin an arm bar?

How to prevent foot sweeps ? How to not get these hit on you
Positive judo comment
Where to a grab if my opponent is topless.....
I think judo is more effective than BJJ since every street fight starts out standing/ grab
BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN EVER I GO CLOSER TO THE OPPONENT HE PUSHES ME BACK SO I AM NOT GET HIS LEG
