Great job of interpretation. The first singer, Roger Waters, wrote this song about how he was ill before a concert in Philadelphia. A doctor shot him up with a drug, probably a depressant. Then he had the worst two hours of his life trying to play the gig while messed up. It reminded him of a time as a child was he was sick with a fever and became detached from reality. Like all Pink Floyd songs, there is more than one interpretation. I recommended trying On the Turning Away live from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour 1988. A beautiful and heart-wrenching song that is their ode to eliminating homelessness.
Was this Pink Floyd's best show? Emotionally, YES, because this would be the last time all four of them shared the same stage. And I was one of the lucky ones to witness this memorable moment in time in Hyde Park.
If you haven't noticed people are begging you to do one from the Pulse concert in 1994!!! The reason?? 98 million worth of lighting and sound equipment in 1994 dollars!!! 233,000 watts of energy pushed through the speakers and the lighting affects for the concert!! Then they put the speaker system with speakers on the stage behind the audience on both sides of the audience and above the audience and put you inside of a gigantic set of headphones!!! Nobody has ever put a sound system together like Pink Floyd!! So do the Pulse concert next time you react to a Pink Floyd song!!!!!
OMG so sweet! In the late 80s every week I would go to a Planetarium(Toronto) and watch a Pink Floyd Laser-Light Show. The sound system was reel to reel. It was amazing!
They had at least three sets of equipment. One set, along with its backup for the current concert. The third set was being delivered or being assembled at the next venue.
Great reaction. You must have both pods in. The front, rear, left n right production quality will give you the depth that makes Pink floyd so special. Just trying to help. It will make the experience more of a journey in your mind space. Enjoy.
I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.
As a long term Pink Floyd fan it was amazing to see them at this charity event (Live 8) they had not been on stage together for over 20 years. This performance was at Hyde Park, London. Only a few miles from the famous Pulse 1994 concert at Earls Court. Although Roger was not in the Pulse concert line-up you absolutely have to see this song performed there.
Gilmour is amazing. He still has the pipes even at that age. Good to have Waters at base for this concert. As long as Gilmour can still sing, Floyd Rocks
Please check out the PULSE live version of COMFORTABLY NUMB. The extended guitar solo and spectacular light show combine for an unforgettable performance.
The song is from Pink Floyd's landmark 1979 double album "The Wall". It is a deeply psychological concept album about a rockstar going slowly insane and building a metaphorical wall in his mind that will eventually separate him from reality. This song occurs about 2/3 of the way into the album as the main character 'Pink', backstage before a concert, is just barely holding on mentally and needs something now to keep him "going through the show". The pinprick is the doctors medication. Roger Waters who sings the doctors part, was the co-lead lead singer, as well as the band's lyricist and conceptual leader. Considered one of the best lyricists in Rock. David Gilmour is the vocalist and lead guitarist singing the part of Pink here. He is a legendary guitarist, one of the greatest of all time, whose iconic voice is probably the one most associated with Pink Floyd as he sings many of their most popular songs. You've already been told to watch the Pulse version of this from 1994, Pink Floyd's last tour of the United States (they are an English band), do it! But you might want to check out "Time" by them also, just to really get your feet wet. Studio version first please! Enjoyed your reaction!! 👍
It's a good concert and nice to see the Bass guitarist with the group for one last rodeo.. but the Pulse concert in 1994 will blow your mind.. that whole concert will.. PF is a vibe.. find that vibe and you'll never see rock or musicianship the same again.. do it off camera if you need to .. thanks for the review.
You guys MUST watch and listen to this specific song in pulse concert 1994 The crowd was extremely excited because this was the first time to reunite after many years of breaking up
This was a reunion show of all four band members for charity and the last time they all would be on the same stage together. David Gilmour on guitar, Roger Waters on Bass, Richard Wright on keyboards and Nick Mason on drums.
Wrong concert, you want to hear the Pulse concert. David Gilmour plays guitar. He was ranked in the top 20 rock guitarists. 😊 If you want more of his guitar checkout the song Sorrow and High Hopes Pulse concert to hear more of his mastery, he’s a legend. React to ALL the songs on the Pulse concert. The songs played live will blow you away 😊.
A fan from the 1960 tees when the group was first formed I felt then they were destined for greatness now they are legendary this is the true and pure way sycadelic progressive rock should be played and sound I was nineteen back then now I'm 74 years young and pink floyd have helped me stay young at heart and mind these guys are without doubt the best there is no question if you lovely people want more listen and watch the whole of the pulse concert for starters for me their music is my favourite drug maybe you will end up the same David gilmour lead singer and guitarist in a different league to all the rest every member of the group top professionals in their our right great music fabulous group loved your reaction keep on rocking make love not war showing my age
I'm sure you're tired of hearing this by now, but you should have done this song from the Pulse concert...it's like this performance times 10 and better staged
This was a charity event that brought together the whole band one final time. David Gilmour is the guitarist extraordinaire, a virtuoso of the highest order. Bass player, Roger Waters, wrote some of the music and the lyrics. Gilmour wrote the music for the chorus and the guitar solos. Roger had left the band formally in 1985. Rick Wright on the keyboards passed away in 2008. The rest are still very active and continue to tour. Roger will be 82 next month. David is now 78 and Nick mason on the drums is 80. The song, is off of side 3 of the double album, The Wall, which was released on November 30, 1979. The album is a very complex musical opera of sorts. It is about the tragic collapse of a rock musician who wants to hide himself from the slings and arrows of life. By the time "Comfortably Numb" comes on our anti-hero, named "Pink" has successfully walled himself off from the world and is semi-comatose in some hotel. But he is supposed to perform for a rock concert and his people along with a doctor break in and administer some uppers to get him up for the show. Of course the show turns into a nightmare (on side 4 of the album). At the very end of the album and I mean the last couple seconds we realize that the whole album is just memory playing in this tragic characters head over and over. He is a recluse, trying to self justify his seclusion. The themes in the album are a dark in-your-face message not to be this guy. Themes that Roger had been writing about since he started writing for the band. Not coincidentally, around the time their first lead guitarist and writer, Syd Barrett, self medicated himself into seclusion ultimately passing away in 2006 at the age of 60. Roger is a firm believer in meeting life's difficulties and overcoming them. The various incidents that Pink uses to justify his seclusion are actually Roger's experiences that he had to overcome to be the rock god he became. The Floyd is definitely something with which you might want to gain some familiarity.
This song is from an album called The Wall, the entire album is fantastic and it is a concept album, which means the whole album revolves around a theme with a story, defiantly worth a listen too in full. The Wall is one album from the holy quadrilogy of Pink Floyd albums: Dark side of the Moon, Wish you where here, The Wall and Animals. Each is absolutely fantastic and there is not one single bad track on any of the albums. Whenever you look at one of those compiled lists of "Greatest albums of all time", those 4 are always on those lists and each is worth a listen too.
Hi Andy and Liz. I'm Marshall and I'm from Scotland. I've been brought up with Pink Floyd all my life and I know every song from them. I enjoyed your reaction to comfortably numb but you haven't even scratched the surface with them. They are the greatest band ever in the history of music. The lead singer is David Gilmour and the Co singer is Roger Water who is no longer with the band. If you want to classic Pink Floyd, you must must must watch On the Turning Away from the Delicate Sound of Tbunder concert from 1988 at the Nassau Coliseum in New York and if you haven't watched the best concert ever in the Pulse concert from 1994, then you do not know what your missing. Watch both concerts. They are absolutely incredible . Ps, watch Echoes at Pompeii full song. Pure magic
The name of the lead guitarist is David Gilmour. He joined the band back in early 70s, I think, when their original lead guitarist(Syd Barret) started to lose his reality. Also a lot of people recommend pulse concert but I personally would suggest you to check "Careful with that axe Eugene" and "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" live from 70s at Brighton Dome, when they were in their prime. Awesome live recording, awesome songs.
David Gilmour on guitar, his guitar is a reflection of his soul. The song is about a fever Roger Waters had when he was a child and he got it again before a show. In the song a doctor is talking to him, "can you show me where it hurts"?
Watch the Pulse version. I've seen em 4 times starting in 73. I was 13. No adult supervision. Pulse is by far the best version I've seen. Fun fact. A buddy, Benny, was the engineer on the album version. No... he got an injection from a Dr. Before going on stage ,and went Numb is my understanding. David Gilmore...
This version of this song is just so so!! Rodger Waters the bass player and the other three hadn't played together for 24 years before this concert so they were way out of practice!! You need to check out the 1994 Pulse concert version of this song to see what Pink Floyd actually is!! This version is like watching a couple of kindergarteners with flashlights waving around in the air! Please do at least one song from the 1994 Pulse concert by Pink Floyd!!
This was actually from a David Gilmour demo that both Waters and Gilmour did the lyrics. You have to watch the movie The Wall to understand the song. Simply put, they're a great band because Roger Waters is one of the most prolific songwriters ever who got a lot of his inspiration from McCartney and Lennon, plus Gilmour can play guitar and sings like an angel. The band was actually named by Syd Barrett after 2 blues singers.
I say this in every comment I make to new listeners to Pink floyd, the songs while they CAN be heard individually really are all component parts of one opus, each album is one song split up into different movements and tell a story from start to finish, I highly recommend you listen to the whole Wall album from start to finish in one sitting AND read the lyrics. the album this is taken from is a fictional journey through one mans struggle trying to cope with life from birth through his adolescence and becoming an international rock star, but suffering from a deep sense of insecurity propageted by his clingy mother and progressing deeper and deeper until he is psychotic and builds himself an alter ego - a mental wall around himself to keep nasty life out, each episode that befalls him being "just another brick in the wall" he builds around himself to cope with life ! comfortably numb being the point he cant take anymore and HE collapses minutes before the band go on stage at a giant gig, and a paramedic is called who gives him a "shot" - the pin prick to get him on his feet, he then regains composure and does the gig............but his alter ego (styled as a self imagined Nazi style dictator) buries poor Pink in his deep sub concious until he has a complete mental break down before reality resurfaces and his mental wall is shattered. as I said I recommend you listen to the WHOLE album in one sitting you wont regret it.
David Gilmour (guitar & vocals), Roger Waters (bass & vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards & vocals) (rip), Nick Mason (drums). Joined by Carol Kenyon (backing vocals), Tim Renwick (guitar), Jon Carin (keyboard). Also, Dick Parry (saxophone) but not on this song. The crowd goes wild because this was the first time in 25 years the band played together in their most famous line-up. Roger Waters and the rest of the band had been in a bitter legal battle over the name Pink Floyd since the mid 1980's. Waters thought the band (who had been going in this line up since 1968) should end when he decided to call it quits. The other three had other ideas and, after several years in court, won. They went on to release several more albums under the Pink Floyd brand and toured the world to great succes in 1987-1989, 1990, and most famously of all, 1994. A concert tour that many think is unsurpassed to this day in its scale, sound quality, emmersiveness, technical complexity and sheer VOLUME! (Because there's only two ways to experience Pink Floyd properly, via headphones or really, really loud!😂 In 2005 there was some hope of a reunion, but that was quickly snuffed out when Gilmour likened the experience to "sleeping with your ex-wife"😂
As others have commented, you have got too see the Pulse Concert '94' version of this, it is just perfect and a great light show, the second guitar solo is longer, more dynamic. By '94' the bass player and composer of this song Roger Waters had left the band, but in my opinion '94' Pulse concert version is the best.
Le guitariste, c'est David Gilmour. Tout le monde vous parlera de la version pulse. Mais sincèrement, celle de "remember that night" avec David Bowie qui fait la partie de Roger Waters est vraiment cool aussi.
If you want the greatest music experience of your life? Smoke a joint, put on Dark Side of the Moon & headphones, lay on the floor, close your eyes, leave the planet.
David Gilmore is one of the best guitarists of all time. His original black stratocaster sold for 3.9 million dollars are Christie's in 2017. This band went though so much from 1966 until finally ending it in 2008. Founding member Syd Barrett had to leave in 1970 because of heavy acid use leading to mental illness. David loved him so much that he made sure Syd was financially taken care of for the rest of his life. Roger Waters left the band in the early 80's leaving only 2 original members left...mNick Mason on drums and Richard Wright on keyboards. David joined the band right after their first album release. One of the greatest bands ever!!!!
Nice reaction! If you like Pink Floyd and are happy to spend an hour relaxing in their wonderful musical imagination, listen to their 'Dark Side of the Moon' album. Listen to the whole album - it's a trip, one of the best albums ever. Then you can react to your favourite track(s) in depth.
Next you should listen to Shine on you Crazy Diamond it's about Sid Barrett Sid Barret. A former Member who was Addicted to Drugs and spent time in a Mental Hospital
This was a toned down version compared to their PULSE concert. This was a charity event so they didn't have their full show or backing singers. Pulse version is 10 times better in my opinion....
PULSE 1994! GOAT!!! Computers have no heart or soul. They formed in 1965. At your ages I suggest "Time" studio version. Pay attention. It can be life changing.
I'm huge Pink Floyd fan but for god sake the fandom of the band can be so obnoxious, its always the same, you picked wrong version, you have to listen in order, you have to listen with dimmed lights and headphones(actually last is understandable). Just let people expierence it the way they choose to or just give some less poking advice. Regarding this particular version, I think many fans who doesnt necesseraily taking sides with that bullshit im a Roger camp or Gilmour camp and simply appreciate music, this version has big emotional impact giving all the circumstances
The song isn't about drugs. it's about sickness. When Richard was a child he got sick and ran a very high fever. Due to the fever he suffered from mental delusion and hallucinations. The first verse is his doctor talking to him. Then as an adult he got hepititus and still had to perform. A doctor shot him with antibiotics and muscle relaxers. This is the part of the song where he speaks of being here again, this isn't me. And you really really really should watch the live version from the Pulse. You're doing yourselves a grave injustice by not viewing that video. The guitar solo is rated as one of the best ever performed. And the light show was mind bending.
Roger Waters, the bass player, was sick with stomach cramps before a concert. The doctor probably gave him morphine to get him through the concert. He was comfortably numb. The music and guitar solo were written for David Gilmour's solo album, but the song was incomplete and didn't make the album. David's version had different lyrics. David used that unfinished solo of this song. To understand, watch the movie Pink Floyd's The Wall If you ever listen to the album versions of the song, make sure you each have your own headset. Pink Floyd takes full advantage of the effects of stereo.
Nice to see that you enjoyed it but you really are missing out on half of the experience, firstly the Floyd invented surround sound so a pair of headphones each is a must in order to get the full sonic experience and secondly the Floyd invented the light show for performances so you are missing out on the visual experience ( live 8 doesn't count, charity show with multiple groups) ,and thirdly Mr Gilmore and his solos will blow your mind, I can only hope that you watch the Pulse concert where possible as it is ranked as one of if not the best of all time ( redo Comfortably Numb and see the difference) ,I was there and I will never forget it, I wish you well as you go into the rabbit hole that is the Floyd ,you will never regret it.
Lost me as soon as i saw Roger Waters. All the live concerts without Waters vie for the titles of greatest or best rock / pop concert of all time. With Waters......they are DAMAGED !!!! Comfortably numb from Pulse, 1994 , is often regarded as pure magic with the greatest guitar solo ever.....over 5 minutes of brilliant guitar . But many fans prefer the live version from the previous tour, about 1988. Only Roger Waters fans want to hear Roger Waters.....and maybe his own family.
Pulse tour 1994 is the best version , this song was written by Roger Waters and had a very bad reaction to some drug or other ,so he wrote about what it was like
Não , não, não, vcs cometeram vários erros, nunca mais nunca em hipótese alguma interrompa um solo de guitarra 🎸 , ainda mais de DAVID GILMOUR ANDRÉ 🇧🇷
I really enjoyed seeing you experience Floyd for the first time, hope you guys do some more, and i see the comments saying wrong show or wrong song blah blah blah...there is no right or wrong...this was at the Live 8 concert at Hyde Park in London in July 2005,this was the first time that Roger Waters played on stage with the band since 1981 (he left the band in 85) and this was also the last time Pink Floyd ever played live..one of the most emotional moments of my life 🎶
You haven't heard Pink Floyd until you hear the Pulse concert.
👍
I disagree. As good as the Pulse concert was, it’s not Pink Floyd without Roger Waters.
Please do yourself a favor. Do this on the pulse concert 1994. You will not regret it. It will be a jaw drop
@@Bassman.9 I'm sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but you are soooooooooooooooo wrong. 🤣🤣🤣
@@nomdaploom You may disagree but you still haven’t proved me wrong. And you won’t.
Check out the Pulse version of this song. Your view count will go through the roof
PULSE CONCERT! Also, you are doing yourself a HUGE injustice by only having one earpiece.
Great reaction!!! Love it. My favorite, 1994 Pulse concert, SORROW. You will be changed. Keep going!!
You guys need your own set of headphones...will sound so much better for Floyd
The pulse concert is from 1994 when they were younger with an awesome light show

Once You PULSE that, You will NEVER turn back :)
It's even better if you use both ears!
1. React to the original version. 2. React to the PULSE version. Then you’ll understand how amazing the song is.
I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.
One of the top five rock guitar solos of all time. That's a historical fact.

Very few people created magic together on a stage like these 4....
My graduating year was 1979-80, this was just out and became our class theme... the whole album... the wall
Ahhhh we have new recruits to the greatness of Pink Floyd
this concert is historicl

Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd .....enjoy the journey !! Comfortably Numb from The Wall album 1979 !!!
L'unique concert où l'on retrouve Waters, Right, Mason et Gilmour depuis le départ de Waters. C'est un concert très particulier du coup.
Various members of the band have been active off and on over the last decade, they are 80+ years old.
For a great look at PF early years live, you have to see Live at Pompeii in 1971. Part 1 and 2 together is best recommended.Great reaction.
I Pink Floyd non possono essere interrotti di continuo è sacrilegio

Any song from the Pulse concert "Comfortably Numb" I think this is the best version.
One underrated track from the Pulse Concert (IMHO) is "Take It Back". I'd like your reaction
You really need full over ear headphones, you are missing so many sounds you don't always hear with in ear phones,
As everyone says watch the pulse concert you will be blown away
You need to do PULSE concert restored. You won’t regret it. Also watch David’s Gilmours version in Pompeii 🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸
Welcoming Pinkfloyd the Amazing Pudding
Same song live from the 1994 pulse concert, don't listen to the remastered version, and watch the lights show that goes with it, amazing

David Gilmour was brought in around 1967 ish. He appears on every Pink Floyd album except their first.
My Pulse always quickens when I hear Gilmour’s solos…
David Gilmour on guitar, his guitar is a reflection of his soul. The song is about a fever Roger Waters had when he was a child and he got it again before a show. In the song a doctor is talking to him, "can you show me where it hurts"?
As good as this is the solos on the version from the Pulse album (the Division Bell tour) take this to another level.

For the next song I would suggest “Time” from album Dark Side of the Moon. And from the same album the song “Money”.
David Gilmour recently sold some of his guitar collection for charity and raised about $20M.
The black Stratocaster in this video alone raised $4.0M
This was actually from a David Gilmour demo that both Waters and Gilmour did the lyrics. You have to watch the movie The Wall to understand the song. Simply put, they're a great band because Roger Waters is one of the most prolific songwriters ever who got a lot of his inspiration from McCartney and Lennon, plus Gilmour can play guitar and sings like an angel. The band was actually named by Syd Barrett after 2 blues singers.
Sim é ele aí no final está a banda completa
Headphones Are Better For Pink Floyd Music 🎼 .. One Earphone ?
I was at this I see 8 or 9 in uk
(Because there's only two ways to experience Pink Floyd properly, via headphones or really, really loud!😂
In 2005 there was some hope of a reunion, but that was quickly snuffed out when Gilmour likened the experience to "sleeping with your ex-wife"😂
One request please use headphones on both ears coz pink floyd songs has lots of small sound peaces u don't want to miss
Do your self a favor and listen to this song from the PULSE concert.😊
You cant listen to pink floyd with only one earbud, youre missing the whole soundscape they are so special at creating!
If you want to understand this song, there is only one way, listen to the album THE WALL, or watch the movie that was made years after the album.
Check out the PULSE Concert version .... not the re-edited version
Next you should listen to Shine on you Crazy Diamond it's about Sid Barrett Sid Barret. A former
Member who was Addicted to
Drugs and spent time in a
Mental Hospital
This was a toned down version compared to their PULSE concert. This was a charity event so they didn't have their full show or backing singers. Pulse version is 10 times better in my opinion....
Pulse Concert was better.
PULSE 1994! GOAT!!! Computers have no heart or soul. They formed in 1965. At your ages I suggest "Time" studio version. Pay attention. It can be life changing.
I add my voice to those who suggest you the Pulse version:
Comfortably Numb (uncut version) - Pink Floyd - PULSE - 4K Remastered
Now youve seen this watch the Pulse concert Comfortably Numb . Dave Gilmore at his best
David Gilmour lead guitar and vocals
Sorry but with only one earpiece in, you really didn't hear the song.
This music and sharing headset? No stereo? Pfffff. You’re not ready.
To understand, watch the movie Pink Floyd's The Wall
If you ever listen to the album versions of the song, make sure you each have your own headset.
Please, If it was up to Roger Waters there never would have been the Pulse Concert. He still hasn't gotten over how fast he was replaced.
Pulse tour 1994 is the best version , this song was written by Roger Waters and had a very bad reaction to some drug or other ,so he wrote about what it was like
Não , não, não, vcs cometeram vários erros, nunca mais nunca em hipótese alguma interrompa um solo de guitarra 🎸 , ainda mais de DAVID
GILMOUR
ANDRÉ 🇧🇷
album version and live from pulse version are too much better
I really enjoyed seeing you experience Floyd for the first time, hope you guys do some more, and i see the comments saying wrong show or wrong song blah blah blah...there is no right or wrong...this was at the Live 8 concert at Hyde Park in London in July 2005,this was the first time that Roger Waters played on stage with the band since 1981 (he left the band in 85) and this was also the last time Pink Floyd ever played live..one of the most emotional moments of my life 🎶
Oh. The album version or Pulse version would have been a much better staring point. And one ear each really won't work for Pink Floyd.
listening with 1 earbud to any music is like watching porn on the radio lol.
PULSE!!!! You will be changed.
You really SHOULD have picked the PULSE concert version - but not the the re-edited version. It is miles better than this.
