Thank you all for the great info!! We now understand ROGER WATERS left the band at this point! So when does he return? When did he initially leave? Where can we see all members live? Please tell us more about Pink Floyd!!
Roger left the band around 84/85, he made one more appearance with the original members for the live8 concert
I don't know if anybody explained a feature of many '70's/'80's rock productions, but there was often dramatic differences in left and right side music for stereos. You can literally miss bass lines or a second guitar, or even more, if you don't hear both sides. Led Zeppelin (Jimmy and JPJ) is notorious for this, especially with Whole Lotta Love and What Is and What Should Never Be from the second album. The point is, separating the music this way is a "feature" and you lose content without both L and R.
For PF, Time is a good example of why you just have to have 2 sides. The intro to this song is fairly long and "spacey." The way the percussion flows around your head and the subtle growth of keyboard will demonstrate why people watching may insist.
I got to see this tour in Vancouver :) In this video the three original members are David Gilmour (whom you recognized) Nick Mason is the drummer with the white shirt and Richard Wright is the keyboardist with the grey hair. If you want to see a great live performance that includes Roger check out 'Echoes Live at Pompeii'.
@@71ernz Actually it was Live8 in 2005
There have been many guitar players (before and after) that play heavier and harder than David Gilmour. But NO-ONE makes a guitar "sing" like him. It's like a 5th voice in the band. A legend.
Absolutely Amen!!!
Fender built the guitar, Gilmour made it sing.
Rated by many as the greatest guitar solo ever.
The first or the second?
@@bwphotographer3484 all of it lol
Pink Floyd had an album on the charts for 778 weeks
That is all young people need to know
ANYTHING from the PULSE Concert will give you chills!!
Best solo ever. Can't be matched. David Gilmour is the GOAT imo.
Ottawa, 1987 Pink Floyd plays 1st concert years after Roger Waters left, they decided to play a practice concert, they hadn't played live for a long time! I WAS THERE! BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!❤
Every single song from Pulse is a mic-drop moment! High hopes, sorrow, shine on you, keep talking, learning to fly… all of them.
and One of these days 😜
@@nodarkside I LOVE that recording! Great example of what that whole show was like live.
And run like hell as the finale.
Great gig in the Sky just beautiful
A friend once asked me what genre is Pink Floyd genre? I answered - Pink Floyd
Best answer!!!👍🏾
This is considered the best guitar solo of all time. It’s not music, it’s a feeling
Some would argue free bird
@@DaShapdoesn’t even get close mate
An older man in jeans and a t-shirt. A man who doesn't make much of himself. But has one of the best guitar solos ever. Liked the reaction you made too. Greetings from Norway. 😀
It never got much press, but Pink Floyd was always about the music, and really eschewed personal fame. You can even see this attitude in the way they’re lit ~ typically from the side, or from above, but rarely from the front, as many other musicians do.
Wonderful reaction guys!
Roger Waters had left the band at this point. The three harmonies provided at the start and middle were the late, great Richard Wright (R.I.P., keyboards), John Carin (keyboards) and Guy Pratt (bass).
If you thought Mr Gimores guitar solo was a fluke I can assure you it was most certainly not!!!
From the same concert, I recommend you check out Sorrow, Money, Shine on You crazy Diamond, Run Like Hell, High Hopes, Keep Talking and Us and Them.
On The Turning Away from a NY concert (1988, I think).
Also really highly recommend Echoes (I think it comes in two parts on youtube?) from a performance filmed live at Pompeii in 1971!!!! No audience, just gods performing to the tragically lost souls in an empty amphitheatre with the volcano as a backdrop....Truly EPIC!!!
Watched this with my wife and told her at the furst guitar solo that it is t h e second greatest guitar solo ever to which sheb replied well whats the greatest and i said wait a minute
Congrats guys! You have just witnessed the greatest overall performance by a rock band ever!!!
The Pulse Tour was the best show ever pulled off. And it was so ahead of time! This was 1994! This was the first time ever somebody used a computerized light show! And the fact that it is still impressive 30 years later says it all!
Pink Floyd owned and transported the lights for the shows/tours. Greatest band ever, my favorite for 55 years! (I'm 70)
Uhhhh not really the first, Rainbow used a computer controlled lighting system for lighting the rainbow in 1975. I'd have to dig out my vinyl to read more but I think it was an Altair.
@@rjinhobart7748 The rainbow had 3000 bulbs in it. Probably used an Altair 8800 that came out in 1975 for the effects.
'On The Turning Away', and ' Coming Back To Life', great solos as well🎸🤙👍
"The Great Gig in the Sky": 2 versions -- first from "Dark Side of the Moon" studio version and then the second one live at the Pulse concert.
Nothing compares to this. It is the greatest rock solo in history, period.
I saw Pink Floyd 11 times on this tour and every show David Gilmour changed the solo slightly, but it killed every single show!
Your correct David never played that solo exactly same I also have seen them several times and in my opinion this concert was the best of all time.
Wow!!! I can only imagine how amazing that must'e been!! Lucky you are my friend.
Just FYI in case anyone is interested, David actually cut about a minute and a half out of this version of his second PULSE solo. If you want to see the entire solo, PF released it in 4k. In that version of the performance, David gets a little pitchy during the solo. Very minimal, but the band were known to be sonic perfectionists, so David may have axed 😜 that part of the solo for that reason. To me, this is the definitive version, not the longer one.
This version and performance is ranked in the top 10 concerts in Rock history, the guitar solo top five to date
The entire pulse concert live is off the charts top production; every song brings something new; when you see more of it, only increases just how much even by todays standard fantastic it really is. Check more of the pulse.
Hell yeah, we will!
I see you like it👍 I've been listening to Pink Floyd over the last 40 years. Welcome to the club! 🤘😎🤘
This is actually the edited version of the video. The unedited one is even longer on the solo part.
This is the greatest solo ever
This is as close as you will ever come to experiencing a Pink Floyd concert live.
Yes, this really is how they sounded live.
Now you have to go down the Pink Floyd pulse concert rabbit hole there’s no turning back. Every song is amazing. You could do sorrow you could do shine on crazy diamond money keep talking run like hell with the end song that followed constantly numb you won’t regret it. You enjoy every minute of it.
You want it! You got it! Excited to hear more music. Should we do the actual songs first or keeping going down the pulse rabbit hole?
@@AndyandLizTV Tough choice. But having loved them for decades, and then having seen this tour live……I’ll recommend reacting to the PULSE versions-for two reasons. One, PULSE’s audio is impeccable throughout, and Two, it will be much more entertaining for your audience (a static album cover image vs. THAT SHOW!!?? No contest.)
[Pro Tip: the Floyd is unique in several ways. One of them is that most of their albums were designed to only have one break, to flip the vinyl. Other than that, every song flows out of the previous one, and into the next one. And their biggest albums - Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and their magnum opus double album, The Wall - are all concept albums. So the songs combine to tell a story. It’s one reason why Pink Floyd can’t be categorized. They are “an experience”. For this reason, they would make an interesting subject if you ever decide to react to an entire album. And that album should be Dark Side.]
The pulse concert is the best live performance of talented musicians you are ever going to see. Trust me. Every song from this concert is amazing. You must continue. I just subscribed
Thank you! We appreciate you!
It’s real and it was 30 years ago. The effort in logistics and equipment necessary is like nothing ever.
This stage was incredible! Three days to set it up, two more to break it all down, 70-some tons of steel, 130-foot-tall arch, 180 feet wide, 50+ trucks to haul it around, and THREE of these stages hopscotching around the world! Logistics INDEED!!!
You don't listen to Pinkfloyd, you feel Pinkfloyd, enjoy the magic journey you are about to take, the greatest band that ever was and will ever be.
I was there, guys. It's my favourite tune ever and this is the best version. I'll never forget the experience, it was awesome.
Pink floyd is a wall of sound, the music with the lights vibrate to the music and the vibrations you feel coming from the instruments puts you into the music
My opinion that is the Best Guitar Solo Live ever recorded. 7 mins and 55 secs. David plays to your Soul
This is the best live in history and the best guitar solo live 100%. That is another level.PINK FLOYD IS INFRONT OF MUSIC.
That is David Gilmour singing not Roger Waters!
I think he confused Richard Wright with Roger. He mentioned the "first" singer, but Guy Pratt and, I think, Jon Carin are also singing that part - but Roger did sing that part when he played.
Waters had long since left PF before the Pulse concerts in 1993. When he left the group, he arrogantly expected the band to disband.
@@scottsmith6631 He was trying to get rid of Gilmore by giving him less and less to do I've read.
Named in homage to two old black blues musicians from North Carolina, USA, “Pink” Anderson and, “Floyd” Council, the band was drawn to them by their raw, blues sound and initially called themselves, “The Pink Floyd Sound”. Within a few years they shortened the name to just “Pink Floyd”. No other band like them, they are the cerebral band of rock, a genre unto themselves!
Indeed, by the one and only Syd Barrett
@@scotoftheanarchic.7903 Granted that it was Syds suggestion but the whole band had to agree with it.
High Hopes, Run Like Hell, same concert, both totally awesome 👏
Ben, a huge fan of Pink Floyd. I was lucky enough to be able to see them a few times in concert.
It was a whole vibe thing. So many cool people. It was kinda like Christmas morning experience. I definitely would have been whistling and screaming as I could
Best guitar solo alongside skynrd with free bird. We were blessed to experience pink floyd as kids. Fans there said, ," they were all crying."
I saw Pink Floyd at Exhibition Stadium and Sky Dome in Toronto (2 different tours in late 80’s and mid 90’s) and this song was mesmerizing!
There are many people who think that this is the best solo ever. I believe that it is the best. The skill level is astounding and he makes that guitar sing with amazing feelings.
Great gig in the sky from the same concert has some amazing vocals from the ladies on stage.
You should stick with this great Pulse concert. Every song is stunning, and the light show will leave you mesmerized. Try High Hopes or Run Like Hell next.
Gilmour’s vocals are amazing in everything he does. Kills it.
I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd in 1977, 3 times in '87 and 2 times in '94. I also have seen David Gilmour and Rodger Waters solo concerts several times. Their concerts are truly an experience!
I wasn't at this show, but saw this tour. I've tried to explain it to people, but you just can't. This isn't even the last song, Run Like Hell was. The strangest part was coming outside after the show and having to assimilate back to the real world after being taken to another dimension.
Best description I’ve heard is ‘Pink Floyd brought their own reality, and for three hours they let us visit them there.’
I was fortunate enough to be there!! Can’t believe it was 30 years ago - without doubt the greatest concert I have or will probably ever go to . I was sat almost level to the huge glitter ball on the left hand side - when that lit up the place just erupted
When asked about his guitar playing style, David Gilmour once said "I can't play fast, so I have to play very well." Indeed!
To answer your question there are 3 members of PF in this performance - Nick Mason (the drummer who is sitting not the one leaping about!), David Gilmour (guitar and vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards). Roger Waters left the band in 1985 long before this tour. Richard Wright has since died. The others on stage were all drafted for this world tour which lasted for 7 months and played to over 5 million people at 110 shows worldwide. At the time the highest grossing tour ever. The bassist you asked about was Guy Pratt, who appears on many of their concerts and all of this tour, he was married to Richard Wright's daughter. There are two other guitar solos that I can compare, both by Gilmour, "Sorrow" from Pulse and "On the Turning Away" from their previous concert. Two more comments, I was at this concert, it was much better than the video shows, the sound was much louder and it was constantly hitting you. The mirror-ball was amazing it was hidden until this song and you couldn't see it being lowered because they turned out the house-lights, also it was spinning and so reflecting millions of tiny moving lights on everything in the hall, incredible effect. The best lighting effects were in the closing number which followed this one called "Run Like Hell".
Visually, its the greatest solo of all time. Nothing even comes close. Its absolutely epic
Gilmour is the Preeminent singer of the band. A Heavy Metal guitarist once said. David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitarists can do with an entire fret board. His voice is absolute magic. Pink Floyd are the Undisputed Gods of live performance. They way they synchronized the lights, and music to reach into every audience member and pull their emotions to the surface is the absolute Gold Standard. They try to touch every single audience member.
The big disco ball is highly symbolic.
First of all, it wasn't seen until the lights spotted it. It was simply not there! Hidden in a box in the ceilling. So when it got lit, you can understand why the audience went wild.
And then, when it opened up and showed the shining diamond that's inside, a direct reference to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (which refer to Syd Barrett), the fans understood!
Genius!
What's more? This is one of the 3 songs they in the « encore ».
Thanks for that explanation. I have seen many iterations of the ball over the years, but never knew the symbolic nature of it.
Great explanation. If you watch the drummer as he "Introduces" the ball drop, you can see him looking up at it in anticipation as the crowd goes nuts.
I saw them at an American Football stadium, and we spent most of the show wondering what the hell that thing was, and what they were gonna do with it. No hiding it at our show.
I like your explanation. The story I heard was that very early in their career, a British rock critic wrote that the band would never amount to anything, ‘the kids’ can’t dance to their music. So, on their next shows ( and all their tours thereafter) Pink Floyd included a disco ball “ For all those who wish to dance”. But I like the symbolism of your story. 👍
@@yelnikigwawa1845 I saw them at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal and the ball was in a black box on the floor (no seeling available). But the effect was the same.
Watch the whole pulse concert. Sorrow is another epic guitar solo 👍🫶
Always watch these reactions with that knowing smile and a sly wink of "I was there." Cheers....
The most epic guitar solo ever recorded.
This particular musical performance was the very best in history. David Gilmour, my favorite guitarist and musician. A whole other level.
I saw this concert at Earles Court, it will stay with me until I pass away.
When I saw this tour the Mirror Ball rose up out of the floor (Hoosier Dome, Inflated ceiling/roof).
We saw this live in '94, and it was a life changing event. The whole concert was a total masterpiece! We all stumbled out afterwards with ears ringing wondering what the hell we just witnessed.. Great reaction keep them coming!
High hopes is a must watch! And Led Zeppelin is another band to dive into!
This is so cool! My wife and I met another couple at the Vancouver B.C. "Pulse" concert. It was so magical an experience I'd like to relive for sure. This hands down is the best concert I ever attended and to have it produced in this way is a "huge gift", I really can't express how much it means to me. I really like both of your enthusiasm and comments, you made me FEEL IT!
Hi, my Dadd has seen Pink Floyd 7 times in their prime. Back then concerts were like going to the symphony(certain bands). You sat and listened to the show...no cheerleader or choreography stuff. Also as the house lights went out at the start of concert everybody sparked up "spliffs" so all shared this stoned vibe everyone was sharing. The sound and lighting was state of the art. At various parts of the show the sound went into Quad for dramatic effect. The keyboard or guitar or voices as well as birds, trains would go around or side to side. It was a spectacle and a fully immersive experience. Back in the 60's and 70's Cannabis and psychedelics were the popular drugs and the music reflected this. "Echoes" was structured like a symphony with 4 parts. Glad you could enjoy and appreciate Pink Floyd and the where they could take thought feeling and emotion and the human experience. Stay cool and open and enjoy......:)

This reactions reminds me to the 80th. Back on these days (having music only from vinyls), we were on a campfire with 2-3 acoustic guitars and 5-6 singers. The boys doing the music and the girls just enjoyed it and singing along. Nice times. Such a pity, that todays generation do not have such bands any more.
I was lucky to be there in 94 , the pulse ball was goosebumps ❤
I just love watching people discover Pink Floyd. I have listened to them for decades (showing my age), in answer to your question ‘was the guitar solo in the too 20, 10 or 5, the answer is none of them, it was in the top 1. Loved my first dip into your reviews and going to try a couple more now .
On the turning away (DSOT) and comfortably numb (Pulse) my favorite solos.
All of pulse will blow your mind. Pink Floyd will change your life perspective
Best concert I have ever seen live and I've seen a lot
Appreciate ya. Thanks for sharing.
Saw this concert in 1994 when they had this concert in Rose Bowl. It was one of the best nights of my life, and I ended up going to concert on second night as well
the best voice ?, some will say gilmour, some will say waters, but the truth is, that pink floyd always chose the best voice for the song that they are playing, just like how they choose the best instruments, so the best could be gilmour, waters or wright, they have also chosen other singers when they felt unhappy with their own voices, "have a cigar" has singer roy harper and "the great gig in the sky has clare tory,
This solo and the one on Freebird are 1A and 1B in music history for sure.
When I was a teen in college a Western Michigan, I would light a candlel, put thist song on and float with it's emotional journey. What a trip. Thanks for the flashback. What a joyful experience.
There was a movie released to this album that was transcending and explained alot.
All Floyd - Sorrow, Run Like Hell, Money, Wish You Were Here, Echoes, Shine On Your Crazy Diamond. many, many others.
Greatest solo ever - hands down!!!!!
Love the reaction guys!! Try SORROW from the same 1994 PULSE concert. MORE incredible guitarwork by David and the lightshow is on steroids!! Can't wait for you to see it!!!!
The whole Pulse concert was phenomenal, as everyone says - please check out more from this concert - you will lose your mind with "Sorrow", for sure! Also, "HIgh Hopes", "Keep Talking" and many more
They are one of the best bands ever. One of my favorite songs ever also. Music just isn’t the same anymore. It’s nice to see the younger generations appreciating “ real music”.
The one thing I’ve learned from Pink Floyd is that they make you FEEL their music. Nothing flashy, even though I think they do, but it’s the true emotions behind the music that makes them. I learned this when I was 10 years old and my dad would absolutely destroy his stereo system and make me sit in the middle of the room and listen. I love my dad for exposing me to their monumental musical talent
HI Andy and Liz. I'm Marshall and I'm from Scotland and I've been brought up with Pink Floyd all my life and I live your reaction to Comfortbabky Numb at the Pulse concert but I need to say you have done the shortened version. You MUST MUST MUST watch the uncut version of it. I swear it will blow you away. Please, please please watch it. It is absolutely awesome. Better than the one you reacted too. Ps, that concert was sold out 16 days in a row in 1994. Tell me a band that can do that. Best band in the world ever. PINK FLOYD.
I saw this live in 94,it's real. 115,000 people were dead silent. Best show ever. There will NEVER be a comparable show to this one.
Me too at Udine Italy. One of the greatest experience of my Life
I was at Earls Court when this was recorded. It'll be 30yrs ago next month.
Amen. Tampa Stadium 1994. I was there😁🎸🎸🎸
I understand that the crew that did the lighting were told "do your thing, spare no expense, you have a free hand".
Went to a pulse concert in the mid 90's in Vancouver BC. It was amazing!!
Was at that very show! Travelled with 10 others mini bus from Edinburgh to London literally parked outside earls court in & out.Was 15 identical PULSE shows in that month of October a record residentsey.👌
"The child is grown, and the Dream is gone." best line
They have a lot of iconic lyrics
@@jaycockrell7470 One of my favs is from Dogs. "You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so when they turn their backs on you, you get the chance to put the knife in"
I was at earls court 1994 watching this live. It was as you have experienced, this is the greatest live guitar performance only surpassed by Gilmour at Pompeii.
Andy, that smile and that look of amazement, happiness, joy that you have, I’ve had that same look every time I hear Pink Floyd since I was 13….52 years ago, great reaction! Oh and Liz, what can I say, you’re beautiful!
Hello folks! Big Floyd fan here. Saw this show in Madison,Wi. Trust me......mind blown. Thanks. Enjoy the trip!!
Oct 20th 1994 at earls court London England. 75,000 in attendance. I was in the navy and attended this very concert. When they did the great gig in the sky they bought the house down. My mind was blown. Great gig in the sky is a must watch. Stellar reaction to Floyd. Keep them coming.
Earls Court didn’t have the capacity to hold 75,000 people
I’ve heard several numbers, but I believe Earl’s Court could seat around 20,000, and possibly 22k in concert configuration (floor seats). Still a fantastic show.
I saw the pulse concert live in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, best concert ever, best solo ever
Great reaction btw, thx
Great gig in the sky live is a life changing song..
Greatest light show ever ❤
My top fave solo ever. David Gilmour translates feeling into guitar notes like no one else--EVER!
This concert is awesome I had this on vhs but have to get this on dvd. You should check out Shine on You Crazy Diamond from the Pulse. I also love that the second half of the concert is the album Dark Side of the Moon.
Check out the song "Sorrow" from the same concert if you like a cool guitar solo.
If you want to see another great live concert where David kills it on guitar check out On the Turning Away (Live)
One of the best aongs ever. 😎
Great reaction!
I seen this tour best concert ever
Guys, I was at this world tour watching them in Rotterdam in 1994 when I was 21 years old. Best line of any song ever "The child is grown, the dream is gone"....Although the BEST live version of this song was on the Delicate sound of thunder tour - the instrumental at the end is just UNBELIEVABLE!! xx
Great Reaction! Watch Sorrow from pulse concert also very good! Saw them in 94 pulse concert at Clemson Stadium may 12th best show I've ever seen!
best guitar solo in history. no question.
Yep, seen this group live many moons ago. Words can't describe....
