Wishbone Ash is another band I never heard of. I trust my subscribers and this was suggested due to the twin lead guitars and the solos. The Link to the original video I reacted to is below.

Their first album is a masterpiece. They managed to make an even better album (Argus). Those guys were unplayable in the 70s!!!

Shocking appropriation of the music to add irrelevant footage that detracts from the lyrics. Let the music do the talking, and the listener do the imagining.
In the earlier albums, first and second line -ups, Andy Powell is stereo left, Ted Turner/Laurie Wisefield on stereo right.
The Phoenix is a mythological creature reborn from the flames of its own destruction, interpret it as you will.

First saw Wishbone Ash 52 years ago. They were the opening act for The Who. Their "Argus" album is excellent. ✌️

Hiya, really jealous that you get to listen first time. The video has no reference as far as I know, and was obviously put together in later years by an enthusiast. It also features a later line up including Laurie Wisefield

My favorite band really, and favorite song. I first heard them on the Pirate Radio Station Radio Caroline, I did see them live at The Oval Cricket ground in 1972 believe it or not. More recently they split and Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash separated from Wishbone Ash but I have seen them both. Long may they play ❤

There is so much great music out there. I hadn't listened to Wishbone Ash in a while. I am putting Time Was/The Wishbone Ash Collection CD in my truck now for my drive to and from work. Keep up the great reactions!

    Never heard of them before!
This was abslutley brilliant. Fantastic musicians. Guitars, Bass and Drums really really good and I liked the vocals, they fitted the song perfectly. More of this band please!

You should seek out their first 7 albums released between 1970 and 1976 ... but maybe ignore their 6th album 'Locked In' as it's a major disappointment.
And especially check out their legendary 3rd album 'Argus'.

Thank you for reacting to this and I'm really pleased that you enjoyed it. Yes they pioneered the twin lead guitarists along with the Allman Brothers.
The actual video has nothing to do with the song. It was added by someone along with the lyrics. (Thank you to them. 😁). I saw them live in 1970 and again in 2007 and believe it or not, they are still going today!
They definitely deserved to be much more famous than they were (are).
    Cheers and regards from England.
    😊😎🎸

Ash used to finish with this (apart from encores). To fans it is their anthem, bit like Stairway to Heaven for Led Zep. Broke all the rules and carries you on a fantastic weaving journey summoning up hope after failure. It was akin to a ritual cleansing and shared brotherhood for fans who knew how powerful this epic track was.

Phoenix makes the hair stand. Explosive stuff. The anthem of the band. Builds slowly to a wonderful crescendo. The bass is subtle and bags of atmosphere. The Phoenix is a metaphor for rebirth. Great epic.

I believe this song was on the live in Memphis session, it was promotional album in 1973 with limited distribution

    • @raynic1173
      @raynic1173 Рік тому

It first came out on the first album, "Wishbone Ash", in '70...then yes, the "live in Memphis" promo album in '72 and again on the Live Dates album in '73...my fav is the Live Dates, just the right amount staying to the structure of the song, but with tweaks in the bass lines and lead work that just make it nearly a perfect master piece.

Hi, I've just found your channel and loved your reaction to Pheonix. You asked about the lyrics, well a little bit of the background. Although the song was the last track on their debut album, I have always thought they should have held it back for album #3 Argus. Argus is often thought of as a concept album, especially side 2, with the songs The King Will Come, Warrior and Throw Down The Sword, which seems to start at the beginning of some Anglo Saxon/Medieval conflict then through to the end, with the lyrics 'Throw down the sword the fight is done and over'. Pheonix would have fitted in nicely with the end of the conflict with the Pheonix (or land) rising from the ashes at the end of the war. But it happened 2 albums earlier, so my theory is blown out of the water🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just found your channel😁😁,great reaction . I was fortunate enough to have seen them live back in the early 70s in Newcastle England. A superb live band , with a fabulous clear sound .. Ps if you thought the studio version was 8.5, wait till you hear the live version on their 1973 album Live Dates !! Definitely a 9.8 on the Richter scale 😁, enjoy .& keep up the good work .
