Don’t know if this was his first movie that he directed, but he absolutely hit it out of the park with this one. As a nearly pure action/thriller watcher, the action choreography was done perfectly.
Just watched the premiere. The movie is insane. A must watch imo. Brilliant scenes, Brilliant acting, authentic portrayals of characters and setting and just killer action sequences.
He's so clearly very passionate about action films and I love to see that! Can't wait to watch the film later today! One of my most anticipated of the year for sure
Dev is such a smart and eloquent guy. Dunno what it is about movies with tumultuous productions but I'm always interested in how so many great films are created in such a chaotic environment. Glad he managed to fight to get this made and I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie 🍿🇮🇳
His passion for the craft radiates throughout the trailer, something which is severely needed in the current state of the industry. Ive already got my ticket for tomorrow
once you watch a few asian martial arts films, it’s hard to enjoy modern action movies. there’s still def great ones out there, and i’m looking forward to seeing monkey man!
I think it’s because Asian actors also have to be great at other forms of artistry (like dance or martial arts) that isn’t the case for American actors.
@@TheSkaOreo studio system as well. took cruise a lot of time and permits to perform those big stunts in the last two MI movies, yet in hong kong jackie chan was already hanging off a helicopter in the 90s.
I think alot has to do with the fact that alot of asian action action stars are actual pro martial artist, not just actors who spent a couple months training for a role.
I know Dev was the one when he mentioned The Raid. One of the most underrated action movie of the last decade. When it comes to Action movies, Koreans, Indonesians and Indian movies do it better than American movies.
Such an incredible story behind the making of this movie. I love Indian classical music and when Zakir Hussain showed up I lost my shit!! What a unique experience this movie is, full of heart and soul and determination
Bruce Lee Movies, Rocky, the Raid Duology, Dredd and OldBoy. This Movie is Such an Inspired Movie, Dev Patel Really Experience what it felt like to be a Director. Let's Learn More!
Am I off my rocker or the editing in Monkey Men was very similar to Dune (2021)? Maybe I was just overanalyzing but the way the story was told, reminded me how Joe Walker tackled Dune.
You should watch those Asian movies that he mention then you will know that John wick is just a cheaper version😂😂😂 it's the habit of Hollywood to overhyped a movie that is highly inspired from Asian movies then make it the standard, as if no such movie or fight scenes was ever made in the whole world. I guess Hollywood fans should expand their movie horizon
@@moimoi3681 Lol don’t tell me what I should watch son. The only movies I watched as kid was Asian cinema. Jw isn’t a cheaper version, if anything it’s a more expensive version. What JW does well is world building and aesthetics combined with creative lore, and other things. JW has every single kind of action sub genre combined into an ultimate action franchise. It’s got car chases, gun fu, h2h combat, big stunts, weaponry, ninjas, cowboys, unique set designs. You dissing a movie that put all that together and made it work while also paying respects to Chinese/japanese/korean/western cinema just shows you’re a fuckin hater. The movie has hype rightfully so is because of people who understand the art behind these action movies and the attention to detail Chad and his team puts in it. JW still isn’t industry standard, the standard action movie are marvel or fast & furious movies. JW is held in high regards. If you can’t appreciate different kinds of action movies then that’s fine, just go complain and cry somewhere else.
@@hellolongden yeah but clearly this movie is also inspired by jw. I was just surprised he didn’t mention it because everyone literally is just calling this Indian Jon wick.
john wick 1 man army schtick... yawn. dont care how cool it looks these are always made by theater kids whove never played a sport or been in a real fight or seen someone get shot. the most trained dangerous pro fighter cant take on 7 guys in 1 room. look at how javier bardem kills the police officer in no country for old men, it is a violent struggle and strangling him takes minutes and hes got crazy deep cuts on his wrists and the entire room is filled with scuff marks from the struggle on the floor. thats from 1 guy who didnt even get much a chance to fight back where it went perfectly to plan from the villain
Dev is a true example of hard-work pays off. I bet Hollywood directors are going to be calling him for upcoming movies.
Sat and watched this with a pen and notepad the entire way through. I could listen to Dev talk for the rest of my life

The Raid mentioned. Bless Dev for using that as an inspiration. The Raid and Raid 2 are seriously the best action films
oh man, finally someone mentions The Man From Nowhere and Bittersweet Life! Excellent movies!!
There's a scene in Monkey man where he does the same thing as the guy from The Man from Nowhere but the glass didn't break. I was laughing so hard.
Imagine if this movie was never picked up... crazy to think. One of my favorites of the year so far. Dev is a fierce new voice in the action genre.
Just watched the premiere. The movie is insane. A must watch imo. Brilliant scenes, Brilliant acting, authentic portrayals of characters and setting and just killer action sequences.
It was amazing, agreed. So cathartic too
I love it when folks who love movies get to make movies and see their version come to live. I hope to see more directorial movies from Dev Patel.❤

What a humble man and an amazing interview!
Whether the film lives up to expectations or not, this man's passion is infectious!

I need to rewatch it for a third time because there’s so much to unpack here. It’s such a rich story.

enter the dragon’s influence on cinema is underrated imo.
Omg I'm so happy to hear he watched that many Korean movies Can't wait to see Monkey Man in Korea
Makes me beam just the fact he’s seen Oldboy lmao
Complete and utter brilliance😮
Dev Patel mentions all the right films. If you're doing action for the first time, just watch the masters. It's the best way to learn.
The Raid, of course

well it was shot in Indonesia and he uses the same stunt team from The Raid franchise

He likes a bittersweet life, great. I love this movie.
The finale is such a cool tribute to Enter the Dragon
Really surprised he didn’t mention Only God Forgives I felt like he was giving it an intentional nod with some of those scenes near the end
Dev is phenomenal ❤❤❤
The korean movie The Man from Nowhere was definitely for sure an inspiration. Love it. Love the movie so much.
Just watched this today, Dev has the juice! The action was amazing!
this dude is kinda nice to listen to. didn't expect that coming in here lol.
The movies he mentioned,, i love him even more now
I really like dev patel. wonderful career, wonderful human
Dev is a very likable character. Not unlike Keanu.
Breathtaking film!
Given the one hit knock out in one of the boxing ring scenes, I’m amazed he didn’t mention Ong Bak! It was almost one for one
I LOVE THIS MAN❤❤❤
The background score is lit ❤ amplifies the action
I knew I Saw the Devil HAD to be an influence. 🖤💀
Hii
Dev Patel's Mumbai Slum trilogy:
Slumdog Millionaire, Lion, Monkey Man.
For him nothing exists beyond Mumbai slums in India
Really lol 😂😂
All 3 movies titles have an animal too lol.
Well he also did marigold hotel, hotel mumbai etc
Lion is criminally underrated, truly wept at that when I first saw if
Makes me want to see it even more now, looks like I had my choice made for me for tomorrow.
For me there’s 3 movies change western cinema fighting scenes. 1st is bruce lee, 2nd is bourne, and 3rd is the raid.
Can't wait to watch
So impressed with Monkey Man. It's completely what John Wick 3 & 4 was lacking, watch out Chad Stahelski.
The man from nowhere, that’s the only answer
Gorgeous film picks!
Hii
I love this man.
Mr patel the man that you are
I'm so excited:)

Could see him and Michael B Jordan working on something. Need like a new Bad Boys style flick. Miami Vice like but new.

So tired of people calling it a new John Wick, watch more action movies, people, for Christ's sake
But it looks like john wick more than any other action movies
Its so easy to say john wick but both monkey man and John WIck were inspired by asian action cinema
I never saw an asian movie choreographed liked john wick before.
Such as?

Why does he look so worn out?
He was probably filming a bunch of interviews in one day. Typically how it goes.
