That skipping is a reason why we don't see electromechanical horns used on new fire alarm systems anymore, due to the current draw. Electronic horns draw way less current, and thus eliminates the "skipping."
@Nathan Delaplaine Nope, some companies still made them. But yeah, by the late 1990s, electronic horns were more common, and it was easier for them to be 2-wire than electromechanical horns (this is why the 7002Ts skip.) Wheelock continued making the 7002T until around the mid-90s, and the MT-24-LSM became their signature alarm signal (nowadays it's the Exceder.) Even Faraday was making electromechanical horns for fire alarm usage up until 2007 with the Wheelock lawsuit that pretty much killed Faraday.
I own an extremely old 7002T-24 that was taken out of a middle school many many years ago. It actually has the Wheelock tag on the back of the strobe is actully stamped on instead of being a sticker, it also says it's rated at 0.5 cd. They had them paired with Edwards (gs) rebranded BG-10s (aka the 279A). I own one one of these from the school and it is is remarkably good condition after sitting in my grandfather's shed for probably 20 years, although both of the wires have come off the switch.
I have a 34T-24+WS-24 that has the label stamped back on the strobe, as opposed to the commonly used sticker. Mine was made in 1986. Not too sure when they introduced the sticker, could have been a year later.
Somewhere on the back of the horn, there should be a 4-digit code. The first two digits dictate which week the device was made, and the last two dictate the year. The "3790" on mine dictates that this was made the 37th week of 1990. My 34T-24+WS-24 has a code of "3186," essentially, the 31st week of 1986.
My elementary school fire alarm system was made up of EST Genesis devices, horn strobes, mechanical horn strobes, 270-spo pull stations, EST smoke and heat detectors, etc
+Fahrenheit4051 Didn't realize that. I assume with the open grille, there were terminal connections as well. Makes sense, I have a speaker/strobe that is the CF819T-WS24VDC, and it has terminal connections. Thanks for the clarification!
If it was the early 80's, then it was probably the original version (the 7002), looked like this, but the grille had a different style (it was more open). However, it's pretty much the same thing as here, and in your experience, the same exact sound. Thanks for watching, always interesting to hear fire alarm stories!
+SirensOfCincinnati Which one? The BG-10 or the BG-12. If it was the BG-10, I must have been spot on, seems like these were installed in more basic systems in the late 1980's/early 1990's. If there was a BG-12, then that pull must have been a replacement at some point.
nice, I have the one with the black on the transformer, I wanted to get a look under that cardboard cover that is fastened with that nut and found that there is one more nut that holds down what looks like some sort of relay with an adjustable plastic screw that kinda just rides the metal horn material , I adjusted it a little because the horn was sounding funky but I removed the thing off the mount all together and all that happens is the horn pops backwards (no strobe either) like it would lift the relay maybe causing some sort of mechanical oscillation maybe because a transformer on DC needs an oscillator in line (transistor) with a capacitor to work and the relay is clicking back and forth so quickly it is working with the diode and the capacitor on there like it was some sort of mechanical oscillator instead of using a transistor .. I haven't confirmed this yet but I think that's what makes sense to me.. Keep the videos rolling ! I just started my collection and have some fun plans ahead.
+Ryan Szumiesz That area under the cardboard cover is not a relay at all. It's the switch that switches the coil on and off rapidly. I wouldn't recommend messing with that, you must have bent the contacts. Don't think a new diode would fix that, either. Additionally, I do hope to keep the videos rolling!
+NewEnglandElevators . Ahh thanks for the second look at the coil, I was thinking of it as a transformer and it didn't quite click in my head that it could be just a coil , the tip off should have been the single wind of wire on it and only two pins lol . I had it apart because it sounded like a sick duck , i'm assuming this is why I found it in a dumpster but some minor cleaning and a small tweak of that plastic screw got it in consistent good working order again .
+Rodj One of these days, I would like to get one. It's powered by 120vac, so there's probably more power going into the device. More power to go through the device, less skipping.
+Rodj The "skipping" was actually designed intentionally to make the signal more noticeable in noisy areas. +NewEnglandElevators Actually, I believe the horn and strobe on the 7004T are wired in parallel.
It's really loud, though! This alarm kind of scared me while back in Kindergarten until I transfer to a school with Spectralert Classic alarm, which scared me less!

Thank you:I saw the wheelock 7002t at my middle school.
Cool 7002t alarm

That one is in super nice shape!
+msj191961 I didn't even have to clean it up! There is still a little dust on it, but otherwise, it's in very good shape!
That's the exact same alarm my elementary school had, haven't seen/heard it since. This takes me back to the fire drills from back then lol
dude same. The sound of that alarm just somehow pleased me as it wasn't too loud nor too soft. It was like the goldielocks of fire alarms
According to Wikipedia, the BG-10 was introduced in 1983
Pretty cool

***** Mine has "1986" on the back of the horn.
The skipping of it is funny
Skip 7002T
the bg-10 was introduced in 1983
I once saw a picture of a 70002T with cigarette butts in the horn 🤨
Person: **starts FIRE ALARM TEST**
RASPY WHEELOCK 7002T: AAAAAA- AAAAAA- AAAAAA- AAAAAA- AAAAAA- AAAAAA- AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
REMASTERED MY COMMENT, LOL
That’s a fun
Ive seen a 1990 7002t on ebay and it had a red coil
90s fire alarm cool at school in the 90s cool
I have these at my school and all of them art in the halls with the doors closed It scares the cap out of the whole school
kawaii potato ** my town mall has these everywhere
my 7002t has a black transformer and it also has info on the transformer and its made in 85 i think and i just order it today
Cool!!
+S.E.R. Safety (Grant Bansemer) The 7002T is definitely a cool alarm. Thanks!
My elementary school fire alarm system was made up of EST Genesis devices, horn strobes, mechanical horn strobes, 270-spo pull stations, EST smoke and heat detectors, etc
One school I went to for kindergarten had these with Edwards pull stations.
Literally, nothing but Arabic and Korean videos came up for me in the suggestions feed for this video.
the bg-12 was introduced in 1999
Awesome review!
+FireAlarm42 Thank you!
I'm actually very certain the T stands for "Tamper-resistant." Specifically, the grille.
Actually, there was a pre-1985 7002T with an open grille.
+Fahrenheit4051 Didn't realize that. I assume with the open grille, there were terminal connections as well. Makes sense, I have a speaker/strobe that is the CF819T-WS24VDC, and it has terminal connections. Thanks for the clarification!
***** Yes, there are terminal connections. That's what the "T" stands for.

I saw a 7002T paired with an Edwards/EST 270-SPO pull station once. And I'm surprised to see that your 7002T is still in good condition.
Yeah, that can be a common setup as well.
these used to be in my apartment, now the alarms at my apartment are Wheelock AS
It’s LOUD!
I've seen that setup before too. It is at my local Asian restaurant, and in many Government housing buildings.

BG-10
+SirensOfCincinnati I thought so! :D
Nice video! I once saw a 7002T in a hotel lobby along with a Gamewell M69 on another wall of the lobby!
I have a FireLite BG 8 at my school but they are hooked to a gentex commander 3.

For wheelock 7002t and wheelock 7002T-24
At my old elementry school they had this same excact one with the horn
Nice dude! I want to get one of these devices!
+ExitSign250 If you can find one for cheap, then I would definitely say get one. They're pretty awesome units.
So running mine on 24VDC it sounded quiet and raspy. The strobe also flashed slowly. I was using two 9v and four 1.5v. Do I need to supply more amps?
You should check out the 7004t, I believe in that on they fixed the skipping.
+Rodj One of these days, I would like to get one. It's powered by 120vac, so there's probably more power going into the device. More power to go through the device, less skipping.

+Fahrenheit4051 Interesting about the intentional design to make it skip. Thanks for the input!
the 7004T is basically a wheelock 31T-115 with 7002T style strobe.
Yes 7002T
great video it sounded good and loud
The fire drill sound of my childhood lol
Me too
It's really loud, though! This alarm kind of scared me while back in Kindergarten until I transfer to a school with Spectralert Classic alarm, which scared me less!
Try Spectralert Advance
thats my mall and they got 7001 and 7002 and 7002ts and it echoes hamburger lol
Music to my ears
I have a alarm like that
what's the difference between a 7002T and a 7002.?
Explained in the description...
The horn grill is different and the terminals
Since the strobe is 0.4 candela, I will get an alarm like that one and I also have a light switch and a 9v battery to power it with.
My 7002t strobe is .82 cd
I have this fire alarm at my school
Nice!!
+Downtown2181 | Fire & Security Thank you!
can I buy them
Not from me, there's probably a seller on eBay that has one.
how old
Had this fire alarm in pre-k had a fire drill everyday at naptime 🙄🙄🙄
Had these at my elementary school too
@@awesomedude6811 We had those in preschool and middle school.
Hello please go look at my newest video where i need help with my 7002t-24 and give me your answer thank you!
