  • Ah yes, another video of a Simplex speaker/strobe here on UA-cam...this time, with a twist!
    This particular device at first glance is much like my 4903-9220, the vertical mounted version of the 4903-9219. However, it's not a mechanical horn in that vertical mounted shell this time around. This time, we have a speaker! Essentially, it's the vertical mounted version of the Simplex 4903-9146, another alarm I have tested a while back.
    Why would I say this is pretty much the same as the 4903-9146? For starters, both alarms use the same speaker and transformer assembly, and are 25V speakers. Next, the two strobes are both 15cd. There are some differences to the two alarms, though. The -9146 was made in 2000 (according to a date stamp in the shell), while the -9147 you see here was made in 1994 (according to the sticker label). Actually, it's older than my -9220 (mine was made in 1996).
    Essentially, these vertical mount 4903's are mostly marketed as retrofit devices, ideally to replace a 2903 series strobe/light plate, or a 4903-9101. This particular device would probably be a replacement on an existing voice evac system, or an upgrade from horns to speakers. Retrofit is obviously not the only intention of this device, there's quite a bit of original installs that use these vertical mounted 4903's.
    1: It is a FELONY to pull a fire alarm in public to falsely report a fire (i.e. "Just for fun). A fire alarm in a public building should only be pulled if there is actually a fire or other emergency. However, this is being activated in a controlled and legal environment, an enthusiast's test setup. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.
    2: This video contains flashing lights from a strobe. Those prone to seizures from flashing lights SHOULD NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
    3: The voice evac messages heard in the video are demos from the companies they come from. They are being used to simply demonstrate the speaker of the alarm.
    I AM NOT responsible for any legal damages done for pulling a false alarm, or for any seizures. These are your decisions, not mine!

    Found them on floors 1 to 14 at a 30-story Hyatt Regency Chaseville/Santa Angela Piccadilly in Chaseville. Alongside them are the rectangular 4903 speaker strobes on floors 15 to 19 and TrueAlert ES Ceiling Mount Speaker Strobes on the rest of the floors with Simplex Dual Action Pull Stations with covers on a Simplex 4100 Voice Evac System. The Simplex LifeAlarm Speaker, model unknown, is in our hotel room, which is 2311. Me, Bree, Patter, Sage and Danessa are in that room. 8 nights of Hanukkah. $1,176 plus expenses, rental car, and round-trip flight on Southwest. Very expensive Chaseville/Santa Angela trip!

    Is this alarm connected to a panel in this video? If so what panel is it?

      @NewEnglandElevators  Рік тому

      I actually don't have this connected to a panel, rather, a power supply and an amplifier which I have off-camera.

    That alarm meets the ADA 60hz requirement.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 років тому +1

      Ccs4646 It's interesting, the strobe my -9220 flashes slightly faster than the required 60hz (sometimes, TWICE a second!). It's a little strange considering mine was made in 1996, quite a while after the ADA code for strobes was introduced! Maybe that's why I anticipated this one was going to flash slightly faster.
      I actually might have made a slight mistake here, I somehow thought the 60hz part of the code for strobes was introduced in 1996, alongside the temporal coding for horns. I do know that the part where strobes had to be at least 15cd was introduced in 1992. Maybe I'm right, I'm not sure.

    I think that Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, IA has these along with ceiling-mount speaker/strobes.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 років тому

      +Craig Baker Sounds like an interesting system! Do you know if these were part of a retrofit install (along with the addition of the ceiling mount devices) or an original installation? If it is a retrofit install, they probably replaced some sort of 2903 device. If it's an original installation, interesting to see that these were the devices of choice.

    • @CraigBaker96837
      @CraigBaker96837 9 років тому

      +NewEnglandElevators I think the speakers in the mall itself are original, and the ceiling-mount strobes and speaker/strobes in the stores are retrofits.
      In some of the big stores (Barnes & Noble, Target, etc.) are basic horn/strobes.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 років тому

      +Craig Baker Didn't think about a retrofit installation that way (the new ceiling mount devices). :D

    I at last extracted the Edwards system technology voice evac and customized with simplex or Edwards signaling alarms and I also have some fire light silent knight notifier by honeywell voice evac and simplex voice evac as well but I need more all types of speaker strobe fire alarms and strobe only too. because we are about to build our new home condo apartment campus or somthing as well.

    How do you decipher the date codes on the back of the alarms?

    • @canticuentos7035
      @canticuentos7035 10 місяців тому +1

      That is not explainable, the reason why that is is because those alarms are very old and it is not When was the date they were made

    • @andrewsstation6436
      @andrewsstation6436 10 місяців тому

      @@canticuentos7035 That could make sense, except it says “date code” above the letters on the alarm, so they have to do something about the date. But I understand how difficult it is to know that.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  7 років тому

      Yes. That came out in the later 1990's, though I'm not sure what year. I have a -9238, which is like the mentioned, but with a 110CD strobe. I made a video of it a long time ago, although, not that great of a video.

    how do you wire a speaker strobe like the sound

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  8 років тому

      +CN railfan The speaker is wired to an amplifier, which is connected to an MP3 device. Mine is a Pyle Home 40w PCM20A, which has a 25v, 70v, and even an 8-ohm output. Wiring the speaker to the amp is no different than wiring a strobe.

    • @cnrailfan8000
      @cnrailfan8000 8 років тому

      +NewEnglandElevators so I could just take a pair of earbuds and take the ear parts apart and use those wires on the alarm and the plug to plug into my phone or device will that work

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  8 років тому

      +CN railfan No, it will not. For one, you will get a very soft output from the device. Furthermore, powering the speaker directly from the phone will not work, as it is not designed to do so (may actually damage the device. You will need the amplifier, and hook the device to the amp, and the speaker to the amp.

    • @cnrailfan8000
      @cnrailfan8000 8 років тому

      +NewEnglandElevators I will never be able to wire that

    • @firealarmperson4774
      @firealarmperson4774 8 років тому

      +CN railfan Just get an amplifier, wire the speaker terminals on the fire alarm to the terminals on the amplifier. Then take an audio "Y" adaptor, put the white and the red sides on the AUX part of the amplifier if it has the AUX mine is a really old amplifier so mine does, then, plug the single other end of the y adaptor in the audio jack of your computer, that is the way I do it, I use a touch screen windows computer, but like new England elevators said, there are ways to do it other than the computer like the mp3 player, then after you plugged in the audio jack to the single end of the adapter into the computer, if you have a computer, or if you want to use one, then play something on the computer and the sound will come out of the speaker! Make sure you have plugged in the amplifier, turned it on, and set it on aux if you can, but the newer amplifiers, unlike the one I have which is old that my dad gave me. That is the way I get the voice evacuation message to play on my speaker strobe(s). Check out my channel: "Casey Anderson". If you want I will do a tutorial on how to wire up a speaker, to an amplifier, to a computer. I will do MY best to help you. New England elevators helped me out a lot. At first I didn't know how to wire it up. I bought one a while back and tried to wire it using a regular adapter and it didn't work so I returned it when the whole time it DID work and I just wasn't doing it right. If you keep trying, you will get it. :) So check out the video and my channel! :) P.S. Don't use a regular adapter on the speaker because that could destroy the speaker. It didn't destroy mine luckily but that was just my luck. So I don't recommend you try that out and take a chance. :)

    This is same fire alarm at my middle school. Same alarm, Same noise, Same everything! But ours are very, very, very quiet. Does anybody here know why our alarms are so quiet? Cause IDK! Also ours are Horizontal, not Vertical. 10:16

      +immakidbruh Simplex's voice evac systems don't seem very loud, interestingly enough. This video actually makes the speaker seem louder than it actually is. Also, you must have the 4903-9146 at your school (15cd version, may differ for different candela strobes).
