Because, at least as far as I'm aware, it didn't happen. They're probably mixing him up with John Money (Or more accurately they think they heard something somewhere about an important guy in the trans movement experimenting on kids - that being John Money - and assume it's this guy) because they don't actually know anything.

I hope many of us still remember this is Pride Week, and I'd like to talk about Magnus Hirschfeld, a great thinker, humanist, and someone who invokes admiration in every decent human being.
He was a German physician who advocated for gay and transgender rights... in the 1920s. When Hitler came to power, he had to leave Germany because of him being Jewish, gay, and a humanist, and he died in Paris.
I'm not going to elaborate on the details of his fascinating life because you can just find it online, this post is about something else.
Even amongst conservatives, hardly anyone supports slavery today or banning women from voting, even though many would voice such bigoted views in the 19th century.
Hirschfeld was mocked, beaten up by the Volkisch (proto-Nazis), drawn caricatures of... and so on. And yet, he held his ground, and today the developed world accepts his views and people more and more learn to adopt the "live and let live" motto.
Here's my point! If you're a bigot, oppose gay rights, mock black people for demonstrating for equal rights, if you roll your eyes at women speaking up about sexual harassment... in a few decades, you'll be seen as a moron, just like those who supported slavery in the 19th century.
Let go of the hatred, accept people for who they are, and you'll find your own inner peace. When you hate a person for their race or sexuality, you're the one who gets consumed by the hatred. Peace and love!
