- Review of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds 2, a 2020 refresh of the original buds with Active Noise Cancelling and premium sound quality. I've been testing the Momentum Wireless 2 for a couple of weeks now and while I like them, they're not worth the £280 Beats-style asking price.
These days you can choose from quite a few ANC earbuds, including options from Sony and Apple's new AirPods Pro. The Momentum True Wireless 2020 are among the most expensive and they offer slick customisable controls, strong audio quality and an excellent transparency mode. However, for that cost you can find better, especially as far as design and battery life go.
I still prefer the Beats Pro and the far cheaper Jabra Elite 2 Pro, but these Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2 buds have plenty going for them. I bought the white version and was very exited about having them, BUT.. But .. But.. As I have already the Jabra Elite Active 75t, I was actually very dissapointed with the M2. My Jabra do a better job over all.. Better battary life, better connection possibilties (multi pairing), phonecalls sound is better and.. still cheaper. The sound is actually very good on the Jabra. Better EQ with Jabra app. I found out that I bought the Sennheiser for its sound and name. I find its a must have still 😆 cheers 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Glad you mentioned the lack of a grippy surface coating. Can't say how many times I've fumbled these bloody things. Sound quality is worth the hassle though.
Sennheisers are a league above the Jabras interns of sound refinement.

I am sure you never bought V1. I bought the v1 and it is a defected product. You leave in the case, it runs by itself and drains the battery. I wonder how many defects are there in V2. Sorry no respect to such company
Watching this video with these earbuds ) I really like them. And ANC works fine for me in a traffic area. The one thing disappointing me is that they don't have two device pairing, like Jabra elite 75t has.
That's good to know. I current use Origem HS-1 and Jabra Halo Free wireless earphones, and they both support having two separate phones. When I get my next phone, I hope to it will be dual sim, so not needing dual Bluetooth in the future. I am looking at getting the Samsung Buds + or the Jabra you have.
Do these always charge in the case? Or can you chose when the charge is on?

I got the jabra , and these sound much better i can hear every instrument, i have had a lot of ear buds these are my favorite.

I was liking your interview right up until you said that the Jabra 75ts sound just as good! You're kidding right? The Jabra elite 75t misses the whole damn mid-range and they have sibilant highs with a boomy over bearing low end! Not to mention, the 75ts do very little for sound separation and spacial imaging. Unfortunately because the MTW2s are so accurate, poorly recorded sound tracks sound really bad and well recorded ones sound intricate and immersive. The MTW2s have no peers regardless of price.
Did you compare them to the TW1. People say that TW1 were better ( Actually own the TW1 )
@@jacquesolivierv This is 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other. If sound quality is your concern, then you may get a miniscule amount more impact from the MTW1s. However, ANC on the MTW2s are a game changer and any sonic edge achieved by the MTW1s gets eliminated as soon as you engage ANC! I literally can not hear a difference in sound quality between ANC engaged or not engaged. And, ANC allows you to hear the broad soundstage and follow instrumental signatures throughout the presentation. The bass impact is pronounced, impactful, and detailed but never overwhelming the intimate details of the high-end and mid-range. These frequencies are well preserved. And, the ANC isolates you from the rest of the world in a way that is hypnotizing!

@@jacquesoliviervyou're welcome! the difference is very subtle between the 2 when it comes to the low end. You will not be disappointed! I love the MTW2s in a way that I didn't love the MTW1s and that's how they "JUST WORK!" The touch controls on the MTW2s are 10 times better than the MTW1s. I found the originals touch panels to be downright infuriating 🤬. Have you ever tried to replay or skip backwards a song with the MTW1s using the touch panel? It was a freaking joke... Seriously! The MTW2s have none of those issues... NONE!

Do not make the same mistake I have made, battery life very poor and goes off quickly. I got them a year ago and dropped one side of the pair and now only left side is working. Contacted Sennheiser multiple times to try fixed and never got anything back from them. They customer support is non existent. Buy apple or any other wireless headphone but not this.
I'm a fan of my Buds+ basically for price, AKG sound (good enough), the capacity of keep listening with one earbud no matter which one and the strong and easy connectivity.
I did have the first momentums and I didn't like them for the lack of some of those things.
Buds+ might not be the best sounding earbuds but I leave that pleasure to my over ear Sennheiser momentum 3 😊

Sorry I strongly disagree with the sound I have the jabra 75t and the sennheiser momentum true wireless v1 galaxy buds plus and the MTW 2 trump them all with sound quality for music detail is second to none response is great trying to decide if v1 or v2 sound better to me very very very little difference but as I say alongside the jabra the MTW 2 make the jabra sound quite ordinary

Why do companies keep trying add active noise cancelling to these things? They're already earplugs. I'd much rather ambient noise pass through so I can hear my surroundings while having great private stereo audio. Only the Sony xm3's seem to have this.
For me having the ANC has been huge because I live in a very windy town and it blocks it out like 99%. 🤷🏼♀️
Many buds have a Hearthrough/Transparency mode, not just Sony. He even mentions in this video that you can activate Transparency mode while listening to music so that you can still be aware of your surroundings. It has that (Transparency mode) PLUS the active nose cancellation.
I see that that you are not an expert on judging sound quality. Jabra75t is no where near SM2 in terms of sound quality as I have ready tested them both. And rest of your reviews on other gagets are also not very accurate... as most of the times u just says like they are "absolutely fine", "no problems" etc. Try to emphasize on technical details. Sorry.

75t's don't offer built in anc. Its software driven, so not as effective.
At this time the new Sony's have been launched, so try them out. By all accounts, a brill pair of tws anc buds....

Just returned the Senns MTW2s. True wireless (any brand) does not come remotely close to touching the sound quality to any of my wired earbuds or headphones. I kept seeing “audiophile” approved for the MTW2s. Compared to other true wireless earbuds, MTW2s probably are top notch. But I will continue to tolerate a wire for the far superior sound quality with wired buds/headphones. Hope this is helpful to others who are prioritizing sound quality above all other features.

So your opinion is the 80$ golds are just as good as the mtw2s? The outlier golds has some pretty bad reviews about connection and build quality .
I definitely disagree that the audio quality is not significantly better than other buds in the 100-200 price range but otherwise totally agree with your review
I owned these briefly (like 2 weeks), but I ultimately returned them. The sound quality was outstanding. My issue is connectivity. Some times the left ear
doesn't connect and I have to put both buds back in and try again to get both ears to connect. This is something that Apple, Google and Samsung's buds just don't have issues with. I ultimately went with the buds plus (I have a galaxy s10e.)
How does the sound quality compare on the buds plus?

Im having this issue with my Airpods, which is why im here. My pods can be fully charge and will just cut out mid-media. It's pretty infuriating when your hands are dirty and you need to fumble with them to get them working again lol.
Claiming those earbuds for less than £100 sounds as good as these ones makes me doubt if you even have a trained enough ear to actually distinguish high quality sound.
£100 earbuds are fine for casual listeners but for someone who is used to high end headphones, £100 will not provide a good enough listening experience at all

@Tech Spurt. Hey bud, what about using only one of the buds? I have the first gen, and using only one bud can only be done with the right one. The left one feeds off of it but can't be used independently. Have you tried it? I noticed you didn't cover that in your review.
Still based on the slave model. you can find this information in the manual for the second gen.

Ignoring a feature like anc, how do these compare to the Creative Outlier (for me the best bang for buck out there)?

@@polar_boi7823 oh I love them, I use public transportation everyday to get to work. And they've been great. But on the high speed train the ANC wasn't that good, so if you're buying them solely for the noise canceling I would suggest you buy over ear ANC headphones.
But what really bother me is that you can't simultaneously connect them to more than one device for example your computer and your phone.

They are 100 dollars off rn so i would not be paying the 300 dollar price tag. Im compairing them to the Jabra elite 75ts, which are on sale too for 130 USD. THe reason I want the sennhiser mommentems TW2 is for the audio, look, and ANC. Do you think i would be happy with that choice? Thanks!
@@polar_boi7823 At home I use the on ear Sennheiser PXC 550, there were some construction work in my building today and I didn't notice it.
The Momentum doesn't provide noise canceling to that extent though.
Another thing that bothers me about the Momentum is that the case is huuuge. Now that it's getting colder and I have a jacket on with big pockets it doesn't bother me that much. But in the summer if your jeans are a little bit tight they won't fit in your pockets.

Shocking reliability for momentum 1s & 2s, each purchase lasted no more than a year for me!
These devices are really not a good day for sennheiser, let alone their customers, who keep having to take them back to the shop!!!!
They always fail on either the left or right bud.

I emailed sennheiser after the 3rd failure of the momentum 1s, the reply- after about 3 weeks was “just change them for momentum 2”!!!
No mention of the additional expense, just an unexpected response from what I thought was a decent company that cared for its customers. Wrong!

When every other reviewer went gaga over Momentum’s sound quality, I came across this reviewer who doesn’t find any distinction in sound quality between Momentums and Jabras ! Not sure if I have to believe this reviewer or 99 other reviewers !!

The Airpod Pros are pretty smooth and easy to drop also. But they haven't broken. Hopefully these won't either.
Have to disagree that they sound no better than the Jabra 75t. I have both and love the Jabras. I use the Jabra for work due to the multi device connections with my iPhone and laptop, however, whilst the Jabra sound good the Sennheisers sound is so much better. It’s more natural and the sound stage is much wider and cleaner.

I thought I'd splurge and get these since I've used the brand's headphones for many-many years with no problem, unfortunately it was a waste of money. This thing causes me so many problems, it connects to my phone but still doesn't want to play sounds through the earphones, it keeps messing with phone calls, I've accidentally hung up the phone many times because of it, battery life is terrible. Overall not worth the money at all.
Then why did you name your video best ANC of 2020 if the passive noise cancelation is what is working for you.
I got mine today and the ANC is a total disappointment. Two firmware updates each one is 50min. I had V1 and was disappointment. V2 seems same disappoint so far.
Some updates. With the latest firmware update they are back to outstanding. Sennheiser, you should be careful here.

I can't talk about the TW2 , but Have compare for around 7 hours the version 1 Momentum TW1 vs the XM3 and sound is more warm and richer with the TW1 , more immersive .. the XM3 are good, high are good too so details are nice , but the sound i a little more boring or ''cold''. Return the XM3. What s interesting is the sound cancelling work really well on sony buy the passive cancellation is poor so when playing music the difference in noice was not enormous with the TW1 and XM3.
Also suprisingly never had music cutting with the TW1 vs XM3 I had some cut ( Using Iphone 11)
Fit is poorer too with the XM3 in general

I've seen reviews where they say these have 21 hours of battery life. But that includes sitting in the case. Doing nothing. Losing charge. While off. Sitting in the case. Switched off. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
I was wondering why mine would have a full charge one day, then I'd go to use the earphones the next day and have zero charge, when they were sitting in the case. Switched off. Doing nothing. It's a really really really poor design. In 2020, they can't make batteries hold a charge for more than a day. Really really dumb. For that reason alone I can't recommend these.

The sound quality of the Sennheiser TW2 is fantastic & beautiful. Noise cancelling is like an ugly bird at the end of the night out, not much use but I'll use it to see what it's like. Not much good.

the thins with the TW , the passive noive cancelling is already really good so you won t need the ANC as much as a XM3

Ive been looking through all the market options of wireless anc earbuds (high end and average), and i really wanted to get the Senheisser momentum 2 but the darn chunky size is really the dealbreaker.

Unfortunately, you're right. Unfortunate because I'm really considering getting these and don't want to wait another year for the upgraded version, but I know I'll be sad once the new version does come out and makes this $300 investment obsolete.

It's gonna be a while until Sennheiser catches up with brands like Sony where ergonomics and form factor design is concerned, but also where software features and functionally really matters. Sadly, they didn't pack the Momentum TW2 with top-tier sound quality so at least you would be motivated to buy them for that. In a sense, Sennheiser is like a giant with cemented feet, trying to do new things the old clunky way, rather than shedding its old skin and emerging anew by taking a completely radical approach to product design, which might pay off long-term and take them into the future. The price of not doing this, might cost them tenfold. To quote the great George Carlin: "Take a fuck!ng chance once in a while will you?"

Any sony in ear bud sounds like trash in comparison to them , i have friends who ditched theirs after hearing my MW2 so please sony fanboy spread false facts somewhere else , even in an objective way : they have a distortion factor of 0.08% at 95db thats all you need to know but listen to your shitbox sony

It's fun watching tech youtubers testing stuff you can't afford only to convince yourself why you actually don't need the stuff. My reaction i sthe same as yours, "no, not really". My reason? My 2018 phone still has an earphone jack and I have wired earphones.
