- One indian dies of this disease every minute. Dr. Zarir Udwadia shares the story of the suffering of one patient diagnosed with Totally Drug Resistant -Tuberculosis (TDR-TB). And unfortunately,succumbing to it. His mission is to educate the masses about the difficulties and complexities of the treatment of drug resistant tuberculosis.
Dr Zarir F Udwadia is a Mumbai based chest physician. He has a special interest and expertise in drug resistant tuberculosis. About 7000 patients pass through his clinics annually.
He is a prolific researcher and has over 125 PubMed indexed publications and 3000 citations to his credit and is co-author of "Principles of Respiratory Medicine" published by Oxford International.
His recent publication of the first Indian patients with Totally Drug Resistant TB featured on the front pages of Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, the New York Times and on BBC, and served to galvanize great change in the community.

Dr. Zarir speaks so well! He and my brother were in the same medical college. The stats are staggering for TB in India 😢 as he rightly said we need to bring these numbers down first. No bullets trains for now.

To go for gene test.. to know.. if he is multi drug resistant or.. normal one
or to go to private practitioner.. or some gov hospital to start with treatment
and would also want to know what are the percentage in india for multi drug resistant patient versus no drug resistant TB

Dr Udwadia is a brilliant physician and as in the case of the TED Talk, an excellent speaker, devoted to the cause of eradicating TB.

Mind blowing statistics about infected people with TB.thank you for presenting it crisply but you could have avoided saying we are a poor country and also ask for help from Mr. Modi without mocking him. Believe me, he does help. This is the leader who thinks about the well-being of our country first.
We need progress in terms bullet train along with financing research in medical areas and public health facilities.

Totally agree we need funds for this but this is not new disease and same could have been asked for earlier to other governments without dramatizing bullet train comments.
