    Jay Lee reviewed these on his channel about a year ago. He also interviewed the designer and showed the factory (IIRC), as he was visiting Korea at the time.
    Therefore, when I saw the thumbnail I was very curious to see what Zeos would have to say about them.
    Thanks, Z!

      sub placement as well, the way mine sat at my pc desk muffled the bass and transferred the resonance into everything around it. I place it on a rubberized cpu tower holder that has wheels that are rubber as well. bass is now crisp and clear no rattling or resononace to be heard.

      On the Bolt I pried up the front mid tweeters about 30 degrees also open the driver’s door about the same. Sound stage from the left all the way across to the passenger door and depth far beyond the windshield and extension without boom and quick. Try the Confederate cannonade before Picketts Charge on Gettysburg. Magnifico!

      correct.. and that makes me wonder why people put much value behind reviews here... bad room, bad placement, millions of extra speakers around that affects... And often speakers upside down and other strange things the speakers are not designed for.. :P

      In my bedroom I had very little options where I can set my speakers. I got the JBL Studio 580, matching center, Elac UB5 in rear and Denon X3500H.
      I had to run Audyssey about 100 times and use the port plugs that come with the JBL but I finally got the EQ to make up for the placement. It is probably horrendous by most people's standards but not super horrendous - about as awkward as you can get considering that also behind each speaker the distance to the wall and the shape are different for every speaker. But on the positive, they are basically the same distance to my head in my bed.
      I also had to set the 580 on top of matching Studio subs which I don't use but were on sale so I bought a pair.
      I feel no need to upgrade. Love this match.

    coming from any of the speakers on view i would have believed you!
    Very impressive .. ok they are expensive .. but if they deliver what we strive to want to hear then they must be worth it.
    Just think how much money we spend on stuff only for it not to meet expectations , and then get the 'next' one hoping for
    it to be the one.

    I'm somehow still happy with my JBL Studio 580 with Elac UB5 in the rear powered by Denon X3500h. I am a-ok on the speaker front. Completely happy with the way they sound, I just don't get enough time to listen to them. I actually play them pretty much all night as I sleep.
    Best recommendation you ever made as far as I am concerned and I just got lucky to pair the Elac with them. It's like they pick up everything the other one kind of lacks. It took me running Audyssey 100 times but I got it right and very happy with it. Until I get a bigger house to indulge my top theater fantasies- probably a build it myself GRResearch or CSS.

    Z, I have experienced the person in the room effect twice. once when I was experimenting with Dolby FM back in the 70s. listening to a classical radio station announcer gave that effect. then again, while listening to a classical station announcer on a very good Harman-Kardon FM tuner and the Robers LS3/5a loudspeakers. both times, the announcer sounded just like he was in the room.

    Yeah, I read a review, or more like a design review of these - seems like quite a while back. I distinctly remember how the aluminum is deadened with leather.
    It's great to actually hear a hands-on review. Especially because the thing that I value most is holographic imaging. Add that to zero sound signature, and for me, it might just be the perfect speaker.
    I have a tiny pair of the original NHT SuperZero's paired with a sub for my PC, and those little NHT'S are absolutely holographic. I fkg love them.
    I have a small pair of the original Dali Ikon 1's paired with two subs in my bedroom, because they also have no bass. Those are speakers that you simply don't toe-in at all, and they are also very transparent.
    I live for speakers that disappear. Maybe these are end game speakers...

    I know you are here to hock new speakers... but it would be very Great to hear you review an ancient used pair of EPI 100v speakers, with the latest tweeter version (The old tweeter version, has a fiberboard bezel. Their best inverted tweeters, have a plastic bezel around them). These speakers also vanish into the room.. making one of the widest and deepest 3d soundstage, that Ive ever experienced. EPI was eventually bought out by Genesis Physics ... whom kept using the same Magical drivers, in the same configuration, ..and some other different combinations (such as adding a passive radiator).
    The difference between these Korean speakers, and the EPI's... is that the EPIs are a fully sealed speaker. No over-exaggerated "artificial" sounding bass. Just Pure, punchy, and Deep bass... that is Musically Accurate, and very Dynamic. Also, I believe the EPIs inverted tweeters, are even more expanded in sound-field projection. Meaning, the sweet spot, is MUCH greater. You dont have to place them in the "Perfect" height, or position.. and the sound is still phenomenal... and flawlessly imaged.
    When I first got them, I didnt have the space for them in my room... and I had to place one under the side of my desk... and one behind the center of my desk. It barely effected the sound field, at all... to the point where many would strain to tell any difference at all. I was shocked beyond belief.
    Now... while these have excellent bass on their own... with a slight EQ bump in the bass, you can push them even harder... and get some pretty insane "Thump". The woofers are 8", with massively powerful magnets on them.
    Ive had them at Sitting height on stands... and while they were fine like that, they sounded best on the floor, near the walls. Being so low to the floor, doesnt effect the tweeters Image / details, at all. Ive never heard such a wide projection, with any other tweeter. The closest thing was a 360 degree Dipole ribbon tweeter... but those sounded too artificial and strange... due to room reflections at different timings.

    I have heard of these from the show coverage by other large name publications covering the show. They do a pear interesting. While not cheap, I cringe at saying they almost represent a value compared to the other eye watering stuff $$$ at these shows. Remind me of magico and another speaker designer that uses all aluminum for their cabinets. All of them seem to be aiming for this colorless audiophile sound. I don't have the buying power to own these, but i will be damned if i don't do something about it. Thanks Z for this review, you mind half found my endgame for me

      EPI 100v speakers - Also vanish into thin air, and create an even wider and deeper 3d Holographic Soundstage. You can pick them.. or the Genesis Physics versions up.. for like under $300 used. Make sure to get a pair with the latest tweeter model (plastic bezel, not the fiber-board bezel version).
      A former employee of the company has a website: humanspeakers whom sells new, hand built, replacement drivers. He even makes an improved version of the magical "Inverted tweeters". Ive not bought / heard his drivers, because all of my EPI's have flawless performance, as-is.
      A buddy wanted me to listen to these $3000 speakers at the high end stereo shop, to give my opinion on them. They were total Trash. My little EPI's blew them away, in every Metric, by magnitudes.

    Speaker placement was horrible in the video.... I know Z knows better than that, so hopefully he listened with them at least further out beyond that colossal screen monitor and the few inches from the front wall.

    NRD wasn't as favorable on this model. There's a TON of competitors in this price category - and even pro gear with built-in amps. I would think that they can at least bring the price down to less than half by having them made in the "North" - now you're talking. Maybe Yoon Suk should give Kim Jong a call?

    • @newdevilman1167
      @newdevilman1167 4 місяці тому +1

      Well, you have to know audio to see through what NRD is doing. NRD only promotes GR products. You should listen to real products in real A/B testing.

    • @abboberg
      @abboberg 4 місяці тому

      @@newdevilman1167 Funny you should mention GR - it was that company that drove me to abandon all vintage tech, like the speaker in this video. Yes, the GR upgrade to my B&W CDM-1NT speakers took the sound to a whole new level (I had two pair of the speakers, so my buddy and I, who composes music, spent two days doing A-B listening - the improvement was stunning) but I had to ask myself, "why did I just spend 60 hours modifying someone else's vintage tech when I can just buy pro audio monitors?". That's what I did - I now have the Adam Audio S3V (which I paid much less for than this vintage PlatiMon speaker). I have a record collection sitting around that I'll never likely play again, so that means I'll never buy a "Saudi Yacht" style turntable. Nor will I ever own a tube amp. But these outdated gizmos sure bring eyeballs to UA-cam (including mine, ironically).

      @newdevilman1167 4 місяці тому

      @@abboberg Look, there is nothing wrong with sound preferences in whichever sonic characteristic you listen to. Some people love electric tones, some people love natural harmonics from traditional instruments.
      GR products can be sufficient to some people, but there are reasons why they are not perceived as luxury brands. Again, you seem to have monitor speaker taste, so clearly you are not in the market for luxury speakers.
      If you know LGK2.4 speakers, you know NRD is making a wrong comparison to a wrong product. And you will know why he only isolated the vocal part and I am not even sure if that is what PlatiMon really sounds like. It could be a bad pairing of an amp(or components) he uses.

    • @abboberg
      @abboberg 4 місяці тому

      @@newdevilman1167 It is a myth that studio monitor speakers are not capable of having a "luxury sound" or can be used for home listening. However, if you feel so strongly about it, please contact the marketing department at Adam Audio in Berlin Germany and tell them that they are doing it all wrong, and need to pull down their web page declaring that their products are great for home listening (while you're at it, please contact Genelec in Finland, who also has a parallel line of their studio monitors that are aimed toward the home-listening market). From my experience, once my S3Vs have been room-comped, and EQ'd to my hearing and taste - pure honey flows out of them - very musical and dynamic, with clear imaging and wonderful sound stage - arguably the best speakers I've heard in my 40+ years in Audio. Paired with my Benchmark DAC 3L, the purity of sound is something you'd expect to hear from high-end headphones.
