Mainly just helped diagnose various malfunctions in friends or families systems. Although, when I turned 16, well technically before I had officially turned 16 and could drive on my own, I bought my first car, and put a Sony deck in it. Added Pioneer 5 1/2" rounds to the doors and Pioneer 6 × 9's to the rear dash. Then bought a set of MTX Audio 12" RoadThunder subs in their factory sealed box with the matching 250watt RoadThunder amp. The car was a typical first beater but I loved my system, so did everyone else who jumped in to run a muck around town with me. One day I parked my car right outside my girlfriend's house, ran inside to drop something off, was less than 5 minutes. Ran back to my car, jumped in and hit play on my music, and could tell something was way wrong. I turned around to find my subs, amp, and capacitor were all gone and all that remained were the 4 rubber feet from the amp and the 2 mounting rings for the cap, since those were all secured to the metal floor of the trunk, and just my wiring, bare and exposed protruding from the carpet floor liner. Middle of the day, busy area JUST across the street from a beehive-like Dairy Queen that was lined with customers. Not 1 person said they noticed anything occur near my car in the 4 minutes it took someone to unlock the doors through the barely cracked drivers window, pop the trunk, and physically rip my entire system from the trunk of my car, and vanish. That was almost 11 years ago. Found out over 6 years ago who had done it and that they still had everything they stole from me. Contacted LE to tell them what I found out, and they told me theyd try calling the person on my behalf and ask them if they'll return my property, otherwise, "that's definitely unfortunate". Eventually the thief learned that LE wanted nothing to do with it, and about every 6 months or so I am taunted by the person as they rub in my face that they got away with my system and still enjoy it as it's hooked up in their car to this day. Truth be told, the whole experience made me quite bitter over it all, and I have yet to make the decision to go ahead and install a new one in my current vehicle. Although, tbh...it would be pretty vindicating to install one that's 10 times better than my original, so they can be cocky and dumb all they want to, because I have the superior system anyway. Maybe someday soon

Thank you for such a great informative video explaining the formulas for determining what size fuses and wire we should be using. It's been on the back of my mind since I started with my current project but been kinda afraid to ask anyone. To answer your question at the end of the video, I've installed maybe 10-15 head units , maybe a dozen single amp and dual sub enclosures some on stock head units using simple line out converters which is how my current system is setup but I'm in the process of changing it. I have a 13 Camry , stock head unit, simple line out conv., 4 gauge wire to a 2 channel 400 watt Alpine amp pushing a single JL AUDIO W4 in a sealed box. I'm adding a AUDIOCONTROL line output converter, 2 output power dist. Block, and a 4 channel amp for 2 3way 6×9's (Memphis Audio), JL 6&1/2's, crossovers to JL audio tweeters in dash. This is my first time running dual amps, upgraded line out converter and crossovers.

      I have a kicker cxa 400 .1 amp
And a Skar Audio single 12 SDR sub with pre fab box at 1ohm rated at 600w rms since the amp is strong enough does that mean I will damage and ruin my amp and sub? Since it's underpowered I checked the amp Dyno sheet and it puts 514rms at 1ohm and 592 at (dynamic)
This is the only amp I have
And I was wondering if I could use it to power it as a temporary amp until I can get a better or would something bad happen if I do use this amp?😕

Never done and install, but this is just about what I’m looking for. Gonna do a two-part install cause of time/money reasons, plus don’t mind getting *intimate* with pulling my 04 Stratus sedan apart. It’s a nice puzzle that’s somewhat a pain in the butt, but in the end I’m trying to give her a nice deep but clear sound
Gonna install a sealed sub, 10 or 12 inch on a monoblock in the first step, but I haven’t decided between putting it in the cabin behind the drivers seat or if I want it in the trunk. I’m worried with my wimpy alternator I either won’t achieve a satisfactory bass level or I may not be able to push it without installing a better alt which I really don’t know how to do but if it needs to be done so be it.
Then the second part will be installing a second amp and new tweeters in the dash, new front door speakers, and new rear deck speakers as well.
Any tips to making installs like this any easier?

    I've done 2 systems before
1st in my 91 miata which was super easy since everything was in the area of a bathtub and a more basic 5ch setup 1200w Amp and a small sub
    My 2nd was in a 93 Mitsubishi 3000gt a little more advanced 5ch setup with a 2000w Amp and a 10in kicker sub
Now I'm thinking about doing my most advanced setup yet in a 08 mustang
2 Amp audiocontrol D-6.1200 6ch + Audiocontrol mono (not sure about wattage)
Kenwood excelon reference DNR1007XR head unit
4x 6x8 speakers on their own channels for mid and tweet
2x 8in mid range door subs
1x 12in sub in the trunk on its own mono
On a later point I might add a 2nd 12in sub but I don't know if it would be too sub heavy at that point.

yeah please go into speaker wire thicknesses for subwoofers, I just got one of those wiring kits from autozone to run an 800w RMS kicker amp on two 350w kicker 10" comp vr's. The speaker wire in the kit is quite skimpy, i'd probably say it's 18ga or 16ga, but I don't have the packing list with me. I know you have a lot of comments to go through but if you have time could you let me know what gauge of speaker wire I should use for this setup? Thanks anyways, and I love your videos. Glad to have found your channel.

Question on the D6.1200 I noticed that you have it setup to your front speakers (separates) and rear coaxial which equals 6 channels. Then you mention being able to tune the subwoofer channel as well. Are you able to run the coaxial with no DSP and choose the subwoofer output using DSP?

Now the recommended gauge wire and fuse are differnet one being a 8 gauge 40 amp fuse for the 4 channel and a 4 gauge 80 am fuse for the mono. Can i use a distribution block and just run 1 fuse? Or does it have to be separated? Thanks in advance!

  • @WordLogos

Hi Mark, in this setup you explained in detail how the third y split rca cable is needed to go into the D6.1200 sub input so that its DSP can adjust the sub signal going out to the second amp for the sub. But in another video you mentioned that the LC4.800 amp has signal summing, so it sums the front and speaker wires from the radio to the amp which has a built-in DSP and that you can use the output rcas to a second amp for the subs. So, could you confirm if my understanding is correct that with the LC4.800 you don't need the third y split rca, shown in this video. Since, the LC4.800 will use the summed full range of signals to tune the output rca signal for the sub amp with its internal DSP, correct?

If you would want 80% of 134 amps wouldn’t you multiply by .8 instead of dividing. My reason for this is because when you divide by a decimal you will increase the number and when you multiply by a decimal you decrease the number mean you are getting the percentage of the number you want.

@@turbro7185 having said that your amp should push that sub with no problems. It's not underpowered. According to you the amps specs are 500~ RMS at 1ohm and the sub is rated for 600 watts RMS, that's only slightly off which in this case isn't an issue or enough to make a noticeable difference in listening. Install them correctly and you should be fine. When in doubt, which it seems like you are, give the money you're saving to someone who does quality installs. You'll appreciate it down the road. Bigger/ more expensive amps and subs do not equal better output.

I’ve got a 3 amp system that’s brutally loud but still sound pretty damn good for the relatively small amount of money I’ve spent. I installed the entire system myself included custom built enclosure for my 15” sundown subwoofer and also some really nice small birch enclosures for my rear coaxials. Also made custom door inserts to mount 6x9 coaxials and a 6.5 mid bass for each door.

About a dozen. My first was in a '66 Mercury Comet when I was 17(50 now):
Majestic HU in factory opening. Majestic 40W booster to Yamaha 6.5s in the front doors. Majestic 150W rms amp to 2 12" Stillwater Kickers in a home-made box in the trunk.
Currently working on 2 full systems.
    My wife's Highlander:
Pioneer touchscreen HU, 6.5" components in front, 6.5" 2-ways in rear, 8" sub in sealed home-made box, 900W rms 5-channel amp.
    My Ranger:
    Pioneer HU, 2-way 6×8s in factory holes, 2 - 8" midbass under the rear jumpseats, and a quick(as it gets)-removable 15" for the low-lows, 2 - 900W rms 5-channel amps.
Need to order wire, distribution blocks and several assorted doo-dads, assemble her box, build another of mine for the second 8", and build the box for my 15". Fun fun fun!

I still have a lot of trouble understanding how you wire multiple crossovers. Can you please give more info about components? Please don't ignore my comment: this info is very hard to find.
So, if you have a tweeter, a super tweeter, 4 mids, 2 bass's, and two subs, what the heck are you supposed to do?
The way I see it, and I may be wrong, the sub will have a lower crossover than the bass, so how do I limit their individual frequencies? And the super tweeter will have a different crossover than the tweeter. And the mids need high and low pass filters.... But the tweeters are on the same wires as the mids!!! So, how am I supposed to adjust the input frequencies of every speaker? And what's the most compact way to do it? Should I be calculating and putting two capacitors or coils in front of every speaker, or should I get a device that can dial the capacitors or coils at every stage, or is all of this totally not necessary?

I started hooking up systems when I was 14 and did around 5 installs for friends that were older and got their own cars. Then over the years I did a few here and there. I think I've done maybe 10 or so installs. And as I got older I got better with patience and doing it right. And also being older and having more money really makes it a hell of a lot easier getting needed supplies lol. Man, the crap I cobbled together when I was 14 was atrocious but, I still got it to work and luckily no melt downs (even though there probably should have been). Side note: I started doing this in 91' and in shop class the teacher let me build a few boxes. First I built my home speaker cabinets and got a A++ then he let me build a bandpass and 2 slant face (1 for my self and one for a friend).

I've learned more about installations because of your videos, than being taught at the shop. I left because they'd get pissed I'd take to long going an extra step to do something the right way. They were quantity over quality. I prefer quality over quantity. I do my own builds as a side hussle now.

Never installed before, but I'm about to order all of the parts for my first upgrade, and I was wondering if you could go over the process of choosing RCAs I've been hearing they make a big difference, and not to cheap out on them but there's no information on UA-cam about choosing which one, or what to look for when buying them, and even when you would need "y adapters". I know you've used the Knukonceptz Krystal line in the past, but I've seen Knukonceptz have different lines of RCAs. Maybe you could do a product review of their highest end ones? I know just explaining RCA's in general would be a short video.

My friends and I liked to mess around with sub woofers in highschool. I did a deck in my '87 Ford escort. Later in life I did a full system in a 2008 Mazda 3. I went all in on it... Speakers, deck, amps and sub woofer. I even did some sound deadening on that and even built the trunk floor/sub box. Was very proud of it.
I now have a 2017 Subaru WRX. It's going to take awhile to save up the money but I will be going full send on it. Kenwood eXcelon speakers and amps, with duel kicker L7 10 inch subs. I highly recommend understanding what exactly drives all parts of this build before you could make a number . Years of trial and error , practice , learning and discussing audio will dramatically decrease the final price tag due to finding the gems that if not beat , compare with bigger names that comes with the price tags. Go heavy on head unit , Kenwood EXC 9903S is top dollar but lower models are great too . Understand what you want and look at specifications on each item you look at . Find them gems . Final product will be a budget build that you can now upgrade pieces as you go but also be proud of , best part is making people think you have way more in there then what you really have (: take care happy learning !
