Luca Leone it's really ridiculous. It's another franchise comprised completely of white guys, so I am just going to pass on Dark Universe. I'll go watch Sofia in Atomic Blonde.
She literally was treated like a desperate girl who was trying to get a boy's attention only to be thrown to the side and be shame upon while the boy went for the less popular character
Absolutely no reason to count Sofia out yet. There's gotta be a reason the Prodigium filled her casket with mercury. They're clearly not taking any chances that she may come back.
It's pretty horrible that they used Set as their god of death. In ancient Egypt, death was not seen as something negative, but rather a natural part of the cosmic order. The gods of death, Anubis, Osiris, Horus and the rest are all linked to the natural order, and death is part of it. Set on the other hand is the god of Chaos, deserts and storms. They could have used the idea of Set and resurrection into undead form as a slap in the face to Horus, Osiris and Anubis, as it would be Set trying to disrupt the natural order, but instead they mixed two opposing concepts, wich to me is just intellectually and culturally offensive.
It could have been worse - they could have had an evil Anubis. That has happened several times, and it really bugs me, because as you say, he was part of the natural order.
Choco Doco it's like how the Percy Jackson movie portrayed Hades as a villainous washed out rockstar it's as if they don't understand that there is more than just one worldview
Choco Doco Yeah, I'm no expert on Egyptian Mythology, but even I was aware of what you said here. Every time they called called Set the God of Death I was like "No, he's not." Over and over...it was so exhausting. But they needed their evil death god so they could reference Satan, and I'm tired of Hollywood vilifying Anubis. Maybe now Set and Anubis can bond over getting screwed by White American writers, lol.
How was it about millennials at all? seemed like a jab at bros of all ages, tbh. Considering Cruise is about two and a half decades away from being a millennial.
Dr. Manhattan that's at least amusing no? It is at the very least a factually description of a story beat in the movie. You being Dr Manhattan and all you should at least be able to see the strings. Just a bit of Watchmen humor for you.
I think it'd be interesting if they turned the 'vs.' aspect of these monster films on their head... Maybe get set up Ruth Negga/Thandie Newton/Naomie Harris in their own 'Bride of Frankenstein' film, then make another film based on the Bride and Sofia's Mummy teaming up... to successfully steal back Sofia's powers back from Tom Cruise's Mummy.
comic books are a different medium entirely. Just like tv shows; comic books want the status quo to remain (Superman's power set and costume. Spiderman's origin story). But with movies the story can develop and there's usually no need to go back to how it was before
summer moore This could be blind optimism, but I like to think that this is why they are not releasing the next film in this Cinematic Universe until 2019.
The thing that bugged me most about this film, and which made me sad, was it wasn't a film about the mummy at all. It was an origin story for this Tom Cruise character (who was pretty much just playing Tom Cruise, but thats my personal bugbear with him as an actor and not relevant to my point). Aside from the fact the mummy kickstarted the plot, and was what he drained for his gothic, tormented, monster who fights monster powers, she really wasnt ever a major player throughout. Her tomb scene was amazing, as was her just starting to get powers back hunting, but generally she felt just like an obsessed with tom cruise, walking power battery. When the villian's plan "succeeds" in a monster movie, but then she just dies, it really highlights how this just wasn't her movie, or even her story. Which is a shame, because i think she did a fantastic job acting when chained up and talking and grinning at people. She did creepy very well, even if a bit overly sexualised in a way that just wasn't needed. I wanted to see more of her as a threat, and i wanted the writing to give her plans gravitas, and the idea of her success being a really bad thing to happen. This Film ended up being "Tom Cruise becomes a gothic superhuman for future films in the series", rather than "The Mummy".
The only thing I've taken away from this movie is that people really liked the original mummy movies. And also I'm not the only one who feels both pity and affection for Brendan Fraiser
The Dark Universe deserves to fail, because of its treatment of Sofia Boutella and Luke Evans. Luke Evans was a superb Dracula, whose story deserved to continue. Hopefully The Mummy will bomb, and then Universal will be forced to just cancel the universe
Mummy 2017 had a way better plot than The Mummy Returns. I liked that movie, but it was too "convenient" that both Rick AND Evie were reincarnated and 'meant' to be the heroes. In The Mummy 2017, Nick was only relevant *after finding the mummy*, no convenience needed to make us care about him.
Yes! They (spoilers for Dracula Untold) . . . . . They even brought the two characters to the current day at the end, which would have been a cool way to connect the stories of the Mummy and Dracula at some point.
Set isn't the god of death, he's a trickster and lord of destruction, you're confusing him with Osiris and/or Anubis. Or perhaps is Universal's mistake.
Hi Grace! Misunderstanding I believe, Set is the Egyptian god of the Desert, and the Egyptian god of death would be Anubis, or Osiris (God of The Underworld), so....did Universal get them mixed up?

Wait a second, isn't Anubis (that is the Greek version of the name, scholars think the Ancient Egyptians knew the deity as Anpu or Inpu) the Ancient Egyptian god of the dead? You know, with the mythology surrounding the weighing the heart of the deceased against a feather, and if the heart was lacking in sin and lighter than the feather you went on to your after life, and if it was heavier than a feather it was fed to a monster in the form of a crocodile? I'm pretty sure Set was the brother of Osiris and only tangentially associated with the dead, being much more strongly associated with storms and the desert (at least some sandstorm associated powers seem to be in the film, so there is that I suppose...). You would think the people doing the research for the movie would at least check that. It has been so long since I had any contact with that topic, but I thought Set wasn't the direct equivalent of a Judeo-Christian devil figure, and different epochs of the Ancient Egyptian culture viewed him differently, some seeing him as innately hostile and others more as mysterious and unknowable but not necessarily evil? I should really look this stuff up.
this is so ironic. Wonder Woman spoiler reviews were all over my UA-cam feed last week & was avoiding them like plague at least till I watched the movie. And now I m watching Mummy's spoiler review bcos I ain't watching it in theatres. I will wait till it hits cable
Great review - I actually thought it was much better then all the negative reviews I read about it, before going. The biggest problem I had with this movie was that it doesn't know what it wants to be. The Frasier Mummy series was pure action/comedy, while this one was all over the place, (scary moments, drama moments, action moments, comedy moments)...flow was terrible. B.O. is going to be FRIGHTENING, mostly from negative reviews from the fan boy sites, but I hope that doesn't SCARE Universal away from its Dark Universe plan. Want to see more RC as Henry Hyde.
Grace, the original Mummy survives (albeit in a mummified state again thanks to Cruise), put back in her coffin and lowered into a pool of Mercury. So she can come back. Cruise is kind of a companion to her rather than a replacement, though admittedly they got off to a bad start together. I really enjoyed this film. I don't understand the Cruise hate that has come out from this. Unlike some of the other blockbusters that came out so far this year (F8 for instance) I would actually watch this film again.
My take on Jenny was to remind Nick he is still a good man beyond what he has done in past and will do in future. The script was not good and I kept thinking of Ghost Rider in the end.
I like Tom Cruise. His performances feel authentic and don't reek of ego like say, RDJ. I enjoyed the screening I saw tonight. It won't win any awards, but a decent night at the Cinema. BTW the new spider suit reeks of RDJ's input and as much as I like T.Holland I think too much of RDJ's stench could ruin it. Hope I'm wrong.
Are you serious? Every single one of his movies lately (might be since rain man anyway) he's always playing the same character. This is literally just a way to tick his bucket list.
Edge of tomorrow was one of the best sci-fi films i've ever seen. I cannot believe Harry Knowles never reviewed it. It may have had a different title in your neck of the woods though.
It's interesting that you are so surprised Grace about Sofia not really being the "Mummy" of the group and it going to Tom Cruise's character. Most people I was watching reviews of guessed that right away when the pictures came out. Tom Cruise doesn't like to play second fiddle, and Sofia's addition honestly didn't make sense really considering what we've seen of her. In fact you're the only reviewer I've seen so far who was surprised by this. Most people took it as matter of fact.
Grace you think if the movie gets backlash for the Ending and for making Tom Cruise the mummy, You think they should maybe see a way to bring back Sofia Boutella?
Thanks Grace. I read alot of reviews and I wasn't gonna go then I saw yours so decided to go see it. It was OK. Not super bad like the reviews were saying. Plus I wanna watch all the dark universe movies. I love watching you reviews and comments. You are hilarious!!
I got to ask: Why did they not just put this movie in the Victorian era like Van Helsing did? There's no real reason for this to be in the modern day. Do they think audiences don't like period movies?
Grace: * talks for almost a minute about how what she says is a spoiler and explains exactly why it is a spoiler * Grace: * says a single sentence from the show that doesn't have anything to do with the plot *
Sofia Boutella was amazing in this movie, like you have mentioned she gives Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe a run for there money. I want her to be ZATANA in the DCEU.
"You can't just create a weird situation and wonder what the solution would be." Isn't that David Lynch's whole modus operandi. That review was pretty hilarious.
The thing that turned my off from this movie is when in the trailer the mummy made another pupil in each of her eyeballs. To me that was just stupid. A third eye was a better indication of mystical powers in my opinion. Also, Tom Cruise is a thief who took the powers of a God the first chance he got, according to Grace if I'm understanding. So, Tom was not chosen to gain the power of the God of Death, but actually took it for himself. I am not going to watch this movie in any medium.
I REALLY REALLY loved this movie! Monsters are my favorite entertainment and literature genre so I am super excited to see how this whole prodigium thing plays out! I think you did a good job of explaining what went wrong and you definitely weren't as unnecessarily harsh as most people have been so thank you
the Stephen Sommers Mummy movies handled the female characters better as well - Evie and Anck-sun-amun were foils to one another (more so in the second film than the first) rather than the two of them fighting over Rick the whole time.
I thought that Tom's line: We're never gonna happen and it's you not me an easter egg regarding to Lily Allen's (who's a Londoner and film also takes a place in London) song Never Gonna Happen from the album It's Not Me, It's you... That and only that maked me smile since film was wreck for me.
One thing that Annabelle Wallis did well was running alongside Tom Cruise and looking good at it (I mean she didn't look like she was too slow or something)
lol, funny that people always say Denzel and Will always play themselves, yet Tom Cruise seems to slip that critique. I don`t think Cruise has played a multiple faceted character since Last Samurai. I`m not surprised with your review, they basically traded the lore and intriguing absurdity of classic monsters coming to life in our world for letting Tom Cruise run around and hope people see and say ``it was fun``. This is 3 ruining of monsters lol I Frankenstein,Untold Dracula, and now The Mummy. Give me Bram Stokers Dracula, give me Penny Dredful`s Frankesteins Monster...ugggh
I usually don't mind the spoilers but after watching your review I decided to wait. oh boy! I wish I had watched this before the movie. As you said, it's not *that* bad if you go into the theater thinking it's just a popcorn movie but I wish I had go to watch WonderWoman for a second time (which I plan to do anyway) just to help her with the ticket. hehe I did find this boring in parts and... yeah, I pretty much agree with your review: a wasted opportunity.
This movie was a total misdirect and had bad writing. I would have rather had Sophia as the Mummy and not Tom Cruise. I didnt like his character and I just can't picture him as the Mummy. The ending was ridiculous with Tom riding off on the horse with total control of Set's powers...wtf. Tom is not believable as being the God of Death. The comedy was bad and felt forced. The only good part was Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll
the story was terrible. I couldn't believe how weak she was against tom at the end, she had the upper hand of knowing her powers more and not battling for power within herself....Sofia looked awesome I hope she comes back mummy v mummy and kicks his ass!😭
Really disliked this movie.. It had the sterotypical black man whose only there to die first, the blue eyed blonde hair woman to be eye-candy. They made this movie look like we'd get a powerful female mummy out for revenge... Instead we get a female mummy trying to make Tom Cruise immortal... So she can serve him?
As a huge fan of the book, it kinda triggers me when you say Henry Hyde. Jekyll is Henry and Hyde is Edward. I also want to ask; is the cameo of Hyde in the final trailer really what he looks like, or does he not change into Hyde completely? So basically, is that his final design?
I think the dark universe has a lot of potential. I saw the mummy today and i was entertained. The most important thing they need is better directors and writers. Alex kurtzman isnt going to cut it. The actors they have lined up are phenomenal. I expect a lot to change with tom cruise character by the time we see him again. This is just in its infancy and deserves time to mature and take shape.
Ahmanet has the potential to return considering that she's not gone at the end but probably just severely weakened. So she still might have a continuing role in the Dark Universe. Also, I didn't see the ending as Cruise and Johnson on another adventure. They're back in Egypt (based on the pyramids) and I saw that as either Nick going to find out more about Set or that he's really Set returning to Egypt.
I think its a decent film. Not good but not bad either. I have to say too that the special effects and Sofia Bouttella for me were one of the best things in the film. I liked to the funny moments (some of them) and the scary parts (gosh when the crowd of zombies were running towards Tim and Jenny or when Ahmanet appears for first time in that bay where the plane crashed I was horrified cause if I was there I would be shocked of horror). The story needed to be more focused on the curse of Ahmanet and not so much the beginning of "DARK UNIVERSE" and thank god this film hasnt turned to "TOM CRUISE (and the mummy)". The design of everything I thought it was new and cool (specially Ahmanets' in mummy form). And for what you say that Sofia Bouttella isnt in Dark Universe I think is not true, if you remember, when Ahmanet turns into a mummy again they put her inside the sarcofagus with mercurium inside because she could revive again, or when Jenny is fighting in the library and the book of the Dead of Amon Ra fell to the floor so it could may be a way to revive Ahmanet to help dominate the world or a reason why she is still alive is because Tom turned her into a mummy again with Seth's powers but she's still Seth's wife so for more that Tom kills her, Seth will revive her again and again. Or another reason that shes not dead, its because in the end when theyre going to the piramides, it could be a possibility that they found something that they didnt that revives Ahmanet, how you see, theyre a lot of ways Ahmanet can be revived, and I'm sure she still has an important part in the story of this new "DARK UNIVERSE"
I enjoyed the film but during the whole thing I kept thinking "I'm on Ahmanet's side", because she was a more interesting mummy than Tom Cruise and I also kept thinking "why can't Ahmanet herself be the Seth's host?". Sofia Boutella was the best part of the whole film (ok I did like Russel Crowe's Dr. Jekyll) and if they never bring her back again I will be very disappointed. also, I feel like this is the year of unfortunate scheduling: *Wonder Woman* comes out right before *The Mummy*, and WW did a better job with the female characters *Pirates 5* comes out after *Guardians of the Galaxy 2* but guardians did a better job with parent/child relationships it's like for every film that comes out there's a movie right around the corner that did it better and shows that it *can* be done better
What's even more disappointing is that Tom Cruise's character figured that out while Ahmanet didn't. "Hey, cut out the middle man. I'll just stab myself!" -_-
Thanks for this video. Love it. I'm not Tom Cruise's fan so will not watch this and so glad you do the spoiler video. By the way, Cruise's character mimics Van Heilzing?
James Thompson they twist every mythology they use in films, not just this one (disappointing as that is - i also sort of get they can't do it real justice no matter what they do, because ancient mythologies are very complicated.. even the "young" european ones are misportrayed all the time.
Im a sort of casual movie goer and so my opinion is not very tecnhical. But i liked the movie, yes it had some flaws but i was entertained for two hours. In your review i think were a bit too picky with some stuff, your opinion tho. Overall i enjoyed it and im excited for the rest. Now... one thing i am 100% on board with you is... people behind the camera need to go. bring some awesome directors and some good screenwriters and work together. I hope dark universe becomed mcuand not dccu. Good video tho, very.detailed, keep up the good work!
I LOVED mr. Hyde/dr. Jekyll! I want to see more of him. I hated that they were explaining everything at the moment. it would be a good mystery movie, if they gave all the informations at the end of the movie.
Tom Cruise should have been Larry Talbot. It would have been a different take on the Wolfman's origin story, which the movie could have teased at the end by having Prodigium send Talbot on a new mission to Wales involving werewolf sightings, and Sofia Boutella could have stayed on as the Mummy.
Ah so a White Actor gets the powers of a literal Egyptian God.....Good Stuff. And people complain about Elba as Heimdall in Thor But beyond that giving a main character the power to invalidate death is just ****** dumb.
+Toking Toki I'm sorry your parents never loved you. But you will find your place one day! And if not, I honestly won't feel sorry that you won't be remembered.
The biggest spoiler of them all: Tom Cruise is running lol
Elektra when that scene came on someone in the theater said "contractually obligated running towards the camera scene"
I only saw this because of Tom cruise
im pretty mad about what happened to sofia. i cant believe they acted like she was gonna stay in it. i love her.
Luca Leone
it's really ridiculous. It's another franchise comprised completely of white guys, so I am just going to pass on Dark Universe. I'll go watch Sofia in Atomic Blonde.
Luca Leone uhh. She might come back? Imhotep came back. For the moment we do not know jack shit if she will return or not.
She literally was treated like a desperate girl who was trying to get a boy's attention only to be thrown to the side and be shame upon while the boy went for the less popular character

Had no idea. Sloppy writing. :(
"bro trip ! lets waste our potential !!"
this was so funny to me 😂😂
Whitney Houston same😂
Grace always makes those comments that are just so random its funny !! I love her !!💯💜
Whitney Houston shes my favorite UA-camr👐
Basically a direct jab to Millennial travelers.
How was it about millennials at all? seemed like a jab at bros of all ages, tbh. Considering Cruise is about two and a half decades away from being a millennial.
The only part of The Mummy that was believable was that a Tom C. took all the power and resources from the Egyptian person for his own. 😲😬😈
Okay, that's pretty funny. :)
HAHAHAHAH that was pretty epic.
Dr. Manhattan that's at least amusing no? It is at the very least a factually description of a story beat in the movie. You being Dr Manhattan and all you should at least be able to see the strings. Just a bit of Watchmen humor for you.

Pascha P at least that is original and new. Plus cool women going at it supernatural style
They could always bring Sofia back in later movies, Imhotep died in the first Mummy and that didn't stop him being in the sequel.
Jack Is Back Tom cruise already took her place. Bringing back characters that ran their purposes is pointless
I'd rather they revive her because she was the most interesting part
Carlos Gallon you must not read comic books
comic books are a different medium entirely. Just like tv shows; comic books want the status quo to remain (Superman's power set and costume. Spiderman's origin story). But with movies the story can develop and there's usually no need to go back to how it was before
Sofia's Mummy vs. Bride of Frankenstein!
Or Sofia's Mummy and The Bride of Frankenstein team up to take back power from Tom Cruise's character!
The Mummy is actually Enchantress's solo film gone horribly wrong.
LOLOL
The Mummy was 1,000,000 times better than Suicide Shit and Enchantress
Kamion Klarion No I didn't. I just read it. The movie was amazing and Suicide Shit was stupid.
Ahem.. to put it nicely both films were shit. just saying.
Kamion Klarion In your opinion. In my opinion, Mummy was amazing and Suicide Squad was shit
"Did you kill a baby creature from the Black Lagoon?"😂😂
I love her. XD
LOL
"Both of them were just there to be Tom Cruises girlfriend" much like in Scientology
Joseph Beesley I bet he'll remake Battlefield Earth.😂😂😂
How does Grace's list of worst Tom Cruise's movies make any sense? The Mummy alone is way worse than any single one of them.
I liked the references to the other films: the mummy uses a scroll to get the power, & the black book of the dead used as a blunt object.
Studios should work on making good movies before planning movie universes and sequels. I still want the monster movie universe to work.
summer moore This could be blind optimism, but I like to think that this is why they are not releasing the next film in this Cinematic Universe until 2019.
I like to think so to
I think that's how the monsterverse started. They weren't originally planning a shred universe it sort of happened and so far they're doing good.
The thing that bugged me most about this film, and which made me sad, was it wasn't a film about the mummy at all. I am not going to go Watch the movie. so let me watch this instead.
Same.
The movie is actually really godo
Oblivion Smith godo, is that Ukrainian for trash ?
Rammel Ceri I saw this only because of Tom cruise and it's actually not bad
The Dark Universe deserves to fail, because of its treatment of Sofia Boutella and Luke Evans. Luke Evans was a superb Dracula, whose story deserved to continue. Hopefully The Mummy will bomb, and then Universal will be forced to just cancel the universe
This film makes The Mummy Returns look like a masterpiece. And that movie had a crappy CGI Scorpion Dwayne Johnson ... let that sink in.
JParish5990 The Rock? The mummy?
Edit* My bad did not know that the scorpion king and the mummy were connected
TMR at least had that cool Sai battle between Nefertiri and Anck-Su-Namun.
JParish5990 uhh no. Not really. Now that i look at it? This new mummy is a masterpiece compared to the mummy returns.
Mummy 2017 had a way better plot than The Mummy Returns. I liked that movie, but it was too "convenient" that both Rick AND Evie were reincarnated and 'meant' to be the heroes. In The Mummy 2017, Nick was only relevant *after finding the mummy*, no convenience needed to make us care about him.
did you even watch it or are you just talking to try to get likes. because this one was way better
Definitely here instead of watching the movie, not wasting my money
Wonder Woman will crush The Mummy into dust.
Rayy Stinger you were right
I wish Dracula Untold was still the movie to start the universe. It was way better
Yes! They (spoilers for Dracula Untold)
.
.
.
.
.
They even brought the two characters to the current day at the end, which would have been a cool way to connect the stories of the Mummy and Dracula at some point.
JB0523 I think they might as well make it re canon
Set isn't the god of death, he's a trickster and lord of destruction, you're confusing him with Osiris and/or Anubis. Or perhaps is Universal's mistake.
"The Mummy" (2017) a *BETTER* film than "Vanilla Sky" or "Oblivion"?.
Nope. Not a chance. Bananas.
LoL.... "Did you kill a BABY Creature from the Black Lagoon!??!!?" Cracked me UP!
I feel that Ridley Scotts new alien movies are the definition of sudo intellectualism, especially Prometheus.
David Mathews *pseudo?
Hi Grace! Misunderstanding I believe, Set is the Egyptian god of the Desert, and the Egyptian god of death would be Anubis, or Osiris (God of The Underworld), so....did Universal get them mixed up?
Byakko07 your right and Set is also the God of Chaos
Byakko07 intentional.
Probably. At least they didn't make Anubis evil, which has happened, but they could have at least gotten the mythology right.
Byakko07 Anubis was son, to Set. Set• god of disorder. Anubis is the Lord of the underworld oft. serving as guide to souls.
*_They intenionally switched them, to confuse the common movie goer._* Jst _typical_ misinformation. They don't want ppl to *_Actually_* _learn_. Ahahahaha-hah.
it's funny because Gods of Egypt is technically more accurate than this Mummy, jeez
I was also very upset they killed Amanette because she has a lot of potential and her actress is incredible so why just kill her off?
SelenaStoleMe you miss something. She said that he has the power over life and death. He could bring her back to life again.
SelenaStoleMe she's not dead she's locked away in mercury
Wait a second, isn't Anubis (that is the Greek version of the name, scholars think the Ancient Egyptians knew the deity as Anpu or Inpu) the Ancient Egyptian god of the dead? Gregory Greenwood-Nimmo
Anubis was just the garudian n guide of the dead, but Osiris is the god of the dead. Set was just evil incarnate. +_0
Thanks for that. Egyptology isn't my field, so I appreciate any help I can get. I do dimly remember Osiris being connected to the Egyptian afterlife now that you mention it. Rodeo Varro wasn't seth darkness/night and the desert.. ? but it changed from dynasty to dynasty which god was supposed to represent what..
this is so ironic. Wonder Woman spoiler reviews were all over my UA-cam feed last week & was avoiding them like plague at least till I watched the movie. And now I m watching Mummy's spoiler review bcos I ain't watching it in theatres. I will wait till it hits cable
Just rewatched this at home today haha and so glad to see you have a video from years ago. Crazy how the dark universe materialized into nothingness.
Aaaaaaand that's the end of the Dark Universe..... that escalated quickly🤣
I thought he was amazing in The last Samurai and I believe he got a 2nd Oscar nom for Collateral.
Edge of tomorrow was one of the best sci-fi films i've ever seen. I cannot believe Harry Knowles never reviewed it. It may have had a different title in your neck of the woods though.
Henry Hulkes At least he doesn't seem egotistical in his playing the same character each time.
Its feels like you have a vendetta against RDJ lol
That fun walk in part you mentioned was used in the UK as a 'turn off your phone' advert before other movies and it was very funny.
Am I the only person who loved 'War of the Worlds' :/ Including the ex machina ending.
The best way to describe this movie is if pirates of the caribbean and resident evil/underworld had a baby.
#NoBrendanFraserNoMummy
Eggs Benedict Cucumberbatch #brendanfraserisahasbeenquitbitching
Ayshish B #stillmorethanyouwilleverbe
The main problems with the movie is the crappy, forced, misplaced humour and the tone that is all over the place. It should've been better
The ambulance chase scene 😍😍 LOVE THIS MOVIE
At least three of the Tom.Cruise movies you listed are better than this sounds. But to each, their own.
save your time and go watch wonder women
barry 234 your profile pic fucked me up. I thought it was an eyelash on my screen so i tried to get it off for a good 30 seconds.
barry 234 I actually watched Wonder Woman Directly after watching the mummy and it almost completely washed out the nasty taste of those woman wraps
"You can say anything you want"
I love Pancakes , I really do !
Grace you think if the movie gets backlash for the Ending and for making Tom Cruise the mummy, You think they should maybe see a way to bring back Sofia Boutella?
You have too much faith in the studio making a Mummy II
It made money haha, even if they don´t do another one the other movies are suppose to be connected so i think that we may see the mummy again,
Thanks Grace. I read alot of reviews and I wasn't gonna go then I saw yours so decided to go see it. It was OK. Not super bad like the reviews were saying. Plus I wanna watch all the dark universe movies. I love watching you reviews and comments. You are hilarious!!
I love hearing your insights, Grace. Don't always agree on likes/dislikes but I like what you have to say.
I got to ask: Why did they not just put this movie in the Victorian era like Van Helsing did? There's no real reason for this to be in the modern day. Do they think audiences don't like period movies?
Grace: * talks for almost a minute about how what she says is a spoiler and explains exactly why it is a spoiler *
Grace: * says a single sentence from the show that doesn't have anything to do with the plot *
People are sensitive, dude. :)
When a movie trailer shows the same scenes over n over till the movie comes out months before.... it's going to bomb.
"No it's, it's important" 😂😂😂 I think the mummy powers are too much like Jekyll and Hyde
WAR OF THE WORLDS IS AN GREAT MOVIE 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
I REALLY REALLY loved this movie! Monsters are my favorite entertainment and literature genre so I am super excited to see how this whole prodigium thing plays out! I think you did a good job of explaining what went wrong and you definitely weren't as unnecessarily harsh as most people have been so thank you
26:14 hahahaha. Exactly my thoughts! Loved the review!
Full disclosure, if it'd been me, I'd have taken the power, gotten the mummy GF, & made Jenny my new boo's pet/foot stool.
This seems more like a Quartermain less League of Extraordinary Gentlemen than a Dark Universe
the Stephen Sommers Mummy movies handled the female characters better as well - Evie and Anck-sun-amun were foils to one another (more so in the second film than the first) rather than the two of them fighting over Rick the whole time.
'bro trip! let's waste our potential' lmao Grace
Henry Hyde? The hell. My revision for the AQA English Exams are meaningless if his name was Henry Hyde and not Edward Hyde makes my cry. Cri
I thought that Tom's line: We're never gonna happen and it's you not me an easter egg regarding to Lily Allen's (who's a Londoner and film also takes a place in London) song Never Gonna Happen from the album It's Not Me, It's you... That and only that maked me smile since film was wreck for me.
love the Brendan Fraser Mummy Easter egg where they showed that Russell Crowe's character has the book of Amun-ra
Saw it today, pretty disappointing. Would give it 4.3/10. Pretty confusing, poorly written and not enough Mummy! (maybe too much Tom Cruise)
true!
One thing that Annabelle Wallis did well was running alongside Tom Cruise and looking good at it (I mean she didn't look like she was too slow or something)
It's really sad that this movie isn't better because as lots of other people I love the idea of the dark universe. I hope the next one will be better.
lol, funny that people always say Denzel and Will always play themselves, yet Tom Cruise seems to slip that critique.
Really? Vanilla Sky? That was a great movie.
Jae Grayson Agree!
I usually don't mind the spoilers but after watching your review I decided to wait. oh boy! I wish I had watched this before the movie. As you said, it's not *that* bad if you go into the theater thinking it's just a popcorn movie but I wish I had go to watch WonderWoman for a second time (which I plan to do anyway) just to help her with the ticket. hehe
I did find this boring in parts and... yeah, I pretty much agree with your review: a wasted opportunity.
Agree about the pseudo intellectualism part, exchanging the convoluted for real cleverness, and also using the "Art is in the interpretation" excuse.
I was hoping for Tom Cruise and the mummy girl to end up together
My hope is that they don't redesign the Mummy rides at Universal Studios with this new movie 😱
Movie was ok! If bride fails that's the end of the dark universe! I enjoy your shows on UA-cam Grace!
Grace I love it when u can't help urself and go for that joke 😜
13:02 Grace introduced the hammer to the head of the nail.
I enjoyed the film. Hope they can continue the Dark Universe.
Thanks for the review! To be honest, because of your excellent review, I'm going to stay as far away from this film as possible.
Hey I like Far and Away! haha
Why was there a vampire skull and a gill man arm in Jekyll ' s crib? Isn't there suppose to be 1 Dracula and 1 monster of the black lagoon?
The Wolf Man could be a random vampire and cut off arm of the monster which is kinda heart breaking
I thought it was pretty good but the brendon Frazier ones was better
Everything I saw about this movie screamed, "I SUCK!" so I didn't go see it. And after listening to several reviews, I'm glad I didn't waste my time!
Jekyll) and if they never bring her back again I will be very disappointed.
also, I feel like this is the year of unfortunate scheduling:
*Wonder Woman* comes out right before *The Mummy*, and WW did a better job with the female characters
*Pirates 5* comes out after *Guardians of the Galaxy 2* but guardians did a better job with parent/child relationships
it's like for every film that comes out there's a movie right around the corner that did it better and shows that it *can* be done better
What's even more disappointing is that Tom Cruise's character figured that out while Ahmanet didn't. "Hey, cut out the middle man. I'll just stab myself!" -_-
true
Thanks for this video. Love it. I'm not Tom Cruise's fan so will not watch this and so glad you do the spoiler video. By the way, Cruise's character mimics Van Heilzing?
Just fyi Grace, Set is not the God of Death, that's Anubis. Set is the God of the desert, storms, disorder and violence
I didn't write the movie - they make it very clear Set controls death and the dead.
Ah I see, guess it's too much to ask for accuracy in these movies 😂 😂
James Thompson they twist every mythology they use in films, not just this one (disappointing as that is - i also sort of get they can't do it real justice no matter what they do, because ancient mythologies are very complicated.. even the "young" european ones are misportrayed all the time.
That's a major error in fact, not a tiny turn, though.
Perhaps you should have. I was unaware of Set's origin outside this film. It's off-putting and seems disrespectful.
Ya I'll probably be seeing Wonder Woman this weekend instead
Ah so a White Actor gets the powers of a literal Egyptian God.....Good Stuff.
And people complain about Elba as Heimdall in Thor
But beyond that giving a main character the power to invalidate death is just ****** dumb.
This comment thread is going to be beautiful.
They have to have Cruise lose his powers over life and death, otherwise what risk is there to him or any of his friends?
+Toking Toki I'm sorry your parents never loved you. But you will find your place one day!
And if not, I honestly won't feel sorry that you won't be remembered.
Toking Toki
Ohhh honey you have so much to learn 😂
Toking Toki
Uh ohhh. Someone sounds.... triggered 😂
That moment when you realize the Brendan Fraiser Mummy movies had more diversity, than the 2017 version.
Lol.
But Oblivion was good
Question is Dr. Jekyll at the wrong timeline of the movie?
