Just wanted to say thank you for youre video very informative and straight to the point people like you help the working class folks that can't afford a shop .keep up the good work there are so many people that rely on you in there time of need . Mine quit today at 3 am I had pulled over and removed the oil fill cap and verified oil being pumped up closed it up and drove to work and home before changing it took me about 25 30 minutes it is very difficult to get to but I did not unhook any lines just removed the plastic cover and used a small tbi unit hold down bolt off a 90s Chevy to get the screen out it was plugged solid .
Wait till the Engine is cool. Lift the vacuum hose out of the way and reach behind and you will feel the wiring. Pull the plug. Use a 1 1/16 thin walled socket and a short extension. The sender will come out fairly easy. Make sure you replace the screen. I was able to do this easy without removing anything at all.
After my mistake on spending 500 bucks on a new oil pump, my "professional mechanic" did not fix this problem. Later i saw this video, it was just a blessing to the headache i had on figuring out the problem. As mentioned in this video, it was the filter itself. Many props to this gentleman. Thanks
Good work. Always nice not having to pull the intake and losing half the bolts. This way you can just drop a few sockets down the back of the engine by the time you're done.
I just had mine replaced....twice! Remember to REPLACE THE SCREEN FILTER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SENSOR! Some mechanics will say it doesn't have one just so they don't have to pull it out because it's a pain in the but to remove!! Nevertheless it is there!! Great video!!
That little filter should be included with the sensor! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For your video. I’ve replaced two sensors and nearly pulled the oil pan before checking UA-cam one last time. Luckily I found your video. My Yukon had very low to zero oil pressure on the gauge but didn’t knock or tick throughout the rpm range. I pulled the sensor and filter popped in a new filter, buttoned everything back up, hit the switch.... 50 psi! THANK YOU!
Thanks Tim! This video is very informative and helpful. You inspired me to attempt my own repair. I was able to change my OPS on my 2007 Yukon 212,000mi. Glad to see oil pressure again!
Another great tip. Something I've noticed that really contributes to this, at least in my experience, going to long on the oil changes. have noticed this a lot when people run synthetic oil, they go way to long, the oil gets to thin and dirty and it plugs up those screens and the sensor. Great video! I just did this on my 2007 GMC Sierra and it’s a lot better than pulling the intake. I also found out that using a wall anchor and screw for picture hanging is also a good way to pull the screen filter. Just put the anchor in the hole after removing the sending unit and finger tighten the screw and remove. It came out quite easy. Thanks!
Really appreciate your video! I've watched so many I'm a bit depressed. I have the sensor and the screen and need to just do it. Thanks, Tim for this great info. But what about a 2013 GMC Serria we did the sensor and filter change but the pressure came up for a second then went back to 0 pressure what can i look for now ????
Pretty good odds on that one buddy. If I wasn't making a video I would have replaced the sensor and filter without even looking at the scanner. Pretty common issue and the engine wasn't knocking so it was a good bet. Thanks for dropping in.
The other thing that seems to go on these when they show no pressure and has no pressure is the oil pump relief valve sticks or the O ring that connects to the oil pump to the pickup tube splits.
I dunno what the heck GM did but alot of those LS engines have the sudden loss of oil pressure. Its good just the sender fixed it. Those are cheap these days too they used to last forever

I have a 2003 Express van with the 5.3 engine. Oil pressure gauge is pegged at 80 psi all the time, never changes. But now the oil light is coming on when I start it and stays on for 2-3 minutes, then goes out. Does that while gauge reads 80 psi, and does this with engine cold start or hot start.
I have a 04 envoy xl. on vacation far from home where I do my own maintenance. the pressure went from normal to 0 parked at Walmart. never had this happen before. it would be a long tow but thanks for this video.
I have the low oil pressure issue with my 2011 Police Tahoe, even with a new sensor and screen. Starting to fear the worst, and I just got this truck a couple days ago. Bums me out cause I love it and it seems to run great otherwise.
Does it actually have low oil pressure or is it just reading low? remove the screen throw it away and only use an OE sensor for starters. Does it use any oil? Engine noise? Does it read low only when warm or all the time?
@@ThecardoctorTV I just had the sensor and screen replaced yesterday. Oil pressure is around 40 on the gauge when first started, drops to around 10 when warmed up and idling. The shop did not test the pressure manually though. They said the instrument cluster might be messed up, but I'm doubting that. I also have an error code for catalyst efficiency low on bank 2, but that's probably a given for 177k miles.
@@ThecardoctorTV Also I haven't noticed any engine noise, and the oil was just changed so I'm not sure if it burns any yet. I've only driven 30 or 40 miles since i got it a couple days ago.

good day sir, from the philippines. i would like to know if there is a problem with my oil sensor if it slightly fluctuates during idle? should i worry about it?
Question... I got my transmission rebuilt.. Got it put back in and then I started my truck (2008 chevy Silverado) drove down road and there was no oil pressure at all. Replaces the screen and sensor.. Still nothing. Can the gauge be bad?
So I bought a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and it has a traction control disable light and also it has an ABS light come on the petals kind of soft. where should start looking? I kinda want to save money and do it myself.
So I jumped the grey with the tan/black wire and it still reads 0. In fact I get 5 volts from the power and the other 2 read ground? Any idea where to go from there?
I agree a good tip, getting it jumped from under the hood is tough, or maybe I need better jumpers/test wires. I know my plug(the plug on the vehicle side is not 100% intact)
Replaced my oil sensor still getting the p0521 code pressures still showing between 15-20psi at idle and 30 to 40 while driving after replacing both the screen and the sensor any ideas on where to go from there
Dont use ac delco oil filters. The oil pressure in my z71 dropped out and I thought I had a real issue, just needed an oil change. I switched to mobile 1 filter and it had been awesome. 10 bucks but better than ac delco.
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 5.3 and my oil pressure went all the way up to 80 so I switched the oil pressure sensor and it was working fine but two weeks later my oil pressure went down to 0 and I got the low oil pressure sign. Do you think it’s still the oil pressure sensor or could it be something else?
excellent video. my question would be IF this conditions could trigger dtc1815 causing the transmission to fail when shifting as if in limp mode ?? any input greatly appreciated
My question for Mr Tim is, is it ok to drive it with a bad oil pressure sensor? I'm 200 miles out in the middle of no where on a rig, will it hurt the engine ? I got a 2010 Yukon Denali with a 6.2. Thank you.
My Sierra 4.7L lifters start ticking when the truck is idling. But once I drive it around like normal the ticking goes away. Could that have something to do with oil pressure?
Hi, On my 2012 Silverado the oil gauge went to full right(80) then back to left(0) back n forth yesterday then engine symbol cane on all the time. My dipstick reads a little over full. I only have 24k easy miles on it. My question is, do you think its just a bad sensor? I changed my own oil 2000 miles ago with Mobil 1 full synthetic(for the 2nd time). Need an opinion before I take it to dealer for diagnosis. Thx
@@rickr2915 Hi I have a 13" gmc sierra 75k mileage....with the same issue, normal pressure , then pegged at 80;mechanic replaced the sensor and screen, back to around 40 cold and can run around 30 sometimes dips to 25....throws the engine light again, same error code...saw a video on replacing the o-ring on the oil pan pickup tube.....thats a bigger project...not sure what the issue is
How do you shut off that incessant dinging sound? Will this destroy an engine or is the engine getting enough oil? How much did you charge for the entire procedure and parts?
If you don’t have oil pressure it can ruin your engine. If the actual reading is improper and in reality you have correct pressure then it won’t cause damage. Either way it should be fixed so that you have warning should an actual low pressure problem occur.
What is the normal oil pressure mine is usually at 40 or just below at idling when driving it’s between 40 and 60. When you restarted to check your gauge at the end of the video it stuck at 60 is that normal?
Will Mobil 1 oil filter cause these to read just about 0 oil pressure on gauge and warning light on dash? Guy I helped out wanted to use 10w-30 (5 qts) Lucas (1qt). Did it started truck sounded fine ran fine jumped inside and almost died when saw gauge at o and warning low pressure. 05 sierra 5.3.
If its actual low oil pressure it will probably destroy your engine and a few minutes of driving. If it has pressure it will run for years like this but I wouldn't because you wont know if a low pressure problem develops and then you have some real problems on your hands.
Found out today my oil pressure sensor switch is broken giving no reading. On the way to work the oil light came on saying pressure was low. The engine could this be a malfunction
Thank you this helped FYI look out for plastic weather seal on connector for oil pressure sensor. When I removed connector from bad sensor, seal fell off connector. After new sensor was installed and connector reconnected, seal was discovered under truck!
What about if it reads about 20 psi running and it has a ticking noise and it gets louder as I keep driving? Signs of a bad fuel pump? Mine will have a good pressure in the morning but while I keep driving it goes down and I get a ticking noise or lifter noise
I've been wrestling this problem for a year now and have replaced sensor, screen, and oil pump . And still having the problem . After a flush and fill runs great for about a month then bam right back at it :( any other advise
My 2007 Chevy Tahoe cut off on the side of the highway. The oil light came on and it said low oil pressure. It would not restart once it cutt off. Do this video apply to that situation?
Sure twice once on the road truck was acting up pulled over found out i was at least 2 qts low oil pan light on dash never lit, another time i took it to the dealer for oil change there was no oil on dip stick yet the idiot oil pan light never lit---but im pretty sure the engine check light did light, fyi the oil pan lites then goes off after the start up lites but I've never seen oil pan light even when i knew it should. Could this be the reason so many are having oil related problems, of course the 5.3 uses /burns oil,the oil pan light is extremely important for this reason alone( its about the early warning before engine check light comes on, hope this makes sense
What would cause a misfire and check engine/service stabilitrac lights mean? Changed plugs and wires, solenoid good pulse on injector good spark. Misfire is on valve 4. 07 burb with 5.3
I'm not really seeing the exact problem that I'm having anywhere. I have an 06 silverado with 4.8. At idle, it shows 80psi, under load, it shows 0psi. There doesn't seem to be anything other than 80 or 0
On a 1993 chevy z71 silverado with a 5.7 does it have a separate screen as well? I just replaced the oil pressure sender, oil pressure leveled out till last Sunday. It bottomed out with pressure. So i changed the oil last night. Oil pressure now bounces, but doesn't bottom out
The Car Doctor Thanks. Yeah its a Autozone brand. One other question.. The Brake warning light has come on. I had to replace the brake lines to the rear of the truck, as well as both brake cylinders. While doing this I went a head and replaced the front pads. I have bleed the lines the best I can. But now the damn brake light stays on in my cluster. Any ideas? Same truck. 1993 chevy Silverado z71. No abs.
Ok. Huge issue I just found out. The intake gasket on this 5.7 is blown. Would that make my oil pressure jump? I also smell antifreeze now,and have a small leak coming from the bottom side of the water pump
So when I start up the oil pressure sits at half but drops to a quarter when truck is warmed up and driven a bit, parked, it drips a few drops overnight. Bad filter, wrong drain plug, rear main, hoping not the rear main
I have 2000 4.8 votec...oil pressure only reads 20 psi...motor runs and sounds well....could this be a bad sensor or clogged screen? ever change sensor in a4.8? thinking smaller engine maybe a little easier to get to sensers.. thanks
The Car Doctor can you tell me where the screen is on 2000 4.8..I checked again and when I start truck gauge bounces between 22 and 30 psi at idle...my other Silverado gauge stays at steady 60 psi at idle...pretty sure it's a clogged screen just can't find a video on how to replace. ..I want to change sensor and screen...thanks for you expert help...
Started truck yesterday and guage was at ZERO and got the low oil sensor message on the dash. But engine also started with a light knock also. I ran it over 10 seconds and turned it off. I have a 2008 Avalanche with 41,000 miles on it... never had any issue. My guage appears to be working fine but am not getting actual oil pressure. Any ideas? I have it with a mechanic but he has not pulled any codes yet... he started it and turned it off immediately... oil pump? Hard to believe I could cause damage to the engine in just 10-15 seconds of running it w/ no engine on top half... but not sure.

Awesome. Worked just like you described! Thank you much
Quick question…what is the expected cost for a shop to perform this task exactly as you did it ?
Do you happen to have a part number for the hard plastic hose that goes into the purge canister? Basically just need the clip for that hose.
nice vid. you deserve 200,000 subs, not 22000. you exaplain very wel. greetings from mexico.
Thank you, I agree on the 200,000 number haha
P.S.what should it be reading for psi on that 5.7 liter. Only code that comes up is the sensor on on bank 2 I believe.
You doing very good job 👍👍👍👍
Nice video 👌👌👌👌👌
You very good teaching good teacher 🤠
Thank you so much I watching each All video 😊

Dinner engine swap for a block block on a 2009 GMC Yukon and still not get no oil pressure the build-up to a 40 then it drops down to zero then the truck shuts down after about 5 minutes any recommendations what I should do next
good day sir, from the philippines. i would like to know if there is a problem with my oil sensor if it slightly fluctuates during idle? should i worry about it?
No chevrolet is gonna fluctuate as the oil pressure changes I wouldn't worry about it
Question... I got my transmission rebuilt.. Got it put back in and then I started my truck (2008 chevy Silverado) drove down road and there was no oil pressure at all. Replaces the screen and sensor.. Still nothing. Can the gauge be bad?
Will it still be fine to drive my truck into I can get it fix
So I bought a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and it has a traction control disable light and also it has an ABS light come on the petals kind of soft. where should start looking? I kinda want to save money and do it myself.
I wanted to see what the oil pressure would be on a hot engine at idle?
So I jumped the grey with the tan/black wire and it still reads 0. In fact I get 5 volts from the power and the other 2 read ground? Any idea where to go from there?
Does anyone know if a faulty oil sensor will cause a know start condition
I like that signal circuit integrity check nice I wonder what a bouncing Guage means bad power or ground or open short of some kind
I agree a good tip, getting it jumped from under the hood is tough, or maybe I need better jumpers/test wires. I know my plug(the plug on the vehicle side is not 100% intact)
What if i change the oil pressure sensor and still shows low oil pressure?
Have you tested the actual oil pressure?
Will it hurt your truck if you don't get it changed
excellent video. my question would be IF this conditions could trigger dtc1815 causing the transmission to fail when shifting as if in limp mode ?? any input greatly appreciated
Great tip once again Tim. Thanks for the quick tip. Always helpful
Thank you. Appreciate the support and encouragement from down south.
Everybody's south of you, cept maybe Santa.
You sleigh me
Just be careful when grandma's around.
Mrs Claws?
Thx
Rickster John my 08 just did the same thing. Did you ever figure out the issue?
@@ericc3784 it was the sensor and no charge under warranty.
What should the oil pressure be on a 5.3 on a mechanical gauge?
What is the normal oil pressure mine is usually at 40 or just below at idling when driving it’s between 40 and 60. When you restarted to check your gauge at the end of the video it stuck at 60 is that normal?
Will Mobil 1 oil filter cause these to read just about 0 oil pressure on gauge and warning light on dash? Guy I helped out wanted to use 10w-30 (5 qts) Lucas (1qt). Did it started truck sounded fine ran fine jumped inside and almost died when saw gauge at o and warning low pressure. 05 sierra 5.3.
Hello, is it the same procedure on a 4.3 08 silverado?

@@ThecardoctorTV my truck has the message only when I have to stop, while I am going it goes off.
how long can you drive the truck before fixing this problem
If its actual low oil pressure it will probably destroy your engine and a few minutes of driving. If it has pressure it will run for years like this but I wouldn't because you wont know if a low pressure problem develops and then you have some real problems on your hands.
Found out today my oil pressure sensor switch is broken giving no reading. On the way to work the oil light came on saying pressure was low. The engine could this be a malfunction
Thank you this helped
FYI look out for plastic weather seal on connector for oil pressure sensor.
I replaced mine on my 08 tahoe and filter as well, and my oil pressure is still low and my engine light came back on. Idk what to do next.
I fixed it, I traded that sucker in. 😆
Besides the check engine light, what are symptoms noticed in car?
Shouldn't the oil pan light come on the never seen it I've been at least 2 qts low ive been low before
I've been wrestling this problem for a year now and have replaced sensor, screen, and oil pump . And still having the problem . After a flush and fill runs great for about a month then bam right back at it :( any other advise
Hello sir how would u test the gauge at the cluster?..and does a 06 chevy Silverado 2500Hd 6.0 engine have a filter under the sending unit?..Thanks...
he says how in the video, requires jumpering two of the 3 wires at the harness that plugs into the sensor in the engine bay.
My 2007 Chevy Tahoe cut off on the side of the highway. The oil light came on and it said low oil pressure. It would not restart once it cutt off. Do this video apply to that situation?
The truck has good oil in it but still will not start or turn over.
I did not find any filter on my 2004 Avalanche. Looked to have the factory aluminum sender in place.
it seems some don't have one. What motor do you have?
Misfire is on valve 4. 07 burb with 5.3
I know those injectors can act up. If your valves are operating ok and it's got good spark and compression I would guess injector.
Oil pressure now bounces, but doesn't bottom out
did you use an aftermarket sensor? That's a common symptom of aftermarket sensors for some reason. Try an OE part
Excellent description
So when I start up the oil pressure sits at half but drops to a quarter when truck is warmed up and driven a bit, parked, it drips a few drops overnight.
Bad filter, wrong drain plug, rear main, hoping not the rear main
I have 2000 4.8 votec...oil pressure only reads 20 psi...motor runs and sounds well....could this be a bad sensor or clogged screen? ever change sensor in a4.8? thinking smaller engine maybe a little easier to get to sensers.. thanks
I think its about the same to replace and yes, certainly could be the problem.
After watching a few vidieos the oil pressure idiot light never lights even when low on oil it goes to check engine light?
Im not sure I understand what exactly you are saying here. Can you explain what is happening?
How much would it cost for a mechanic to change that out? Thx
Any ideas? I have it with a mechanic but he has not pulled any codes yet... he started it and turned it off immediately... oil pump? Hard to believe I could cause damage to the engine in just 10-15 seconds of running it w/ no engine on top half... but not sure.
great video but i have a request; i have a 2004 silverado with an 8.1 liter engine (just bought it) and i cannot find any videos or guides on changing the oil sending unit.
Ill keep my eyes open for one of those. I haven't run into that yet.
Well done, professional and complete video
thank you.
Hi! Have 2011 Yukon hybrid with same issue, low oil pressure, had it fixed at dealerships 4 times, replaced oil pump, sensor, screen and the connector, it keeps coming back, now they are telling me is because a broken Camshaft inside engine, could this be true? Is a symptom of low oil pressure be due to broken cam? Thank you.
If your cam is broke it wouldn't run correctly and maybe not at all.
What is normal oil pressure? is 59psi the normal oil pressure ?
