He said the most profound thing I have heard regarding AI competing with humanity. It was that people who are not afraid to fail cannot be replaced by AI. This resonated with me on so many levels because it has always been my advice for achieving success. However when it comes to AI, it will never do anything that could result in failure. And yet many of my best ideas were accidental or mistakes or even incorrectly hearing other people. Failure could be the missing component of AI programming that never allows successful creativity and exploration.
In the original version of the script for the movie "The Matrix," the people in the pods were not being harnessed for electrical power to keep the AI machines running...they were being harnessed for their creativity. It was the only thing that AI couldn't make themselves. But the Wachowski brothers changed this key plot line because it didn't sound as plausible. Little did they know that 25 years later their original premise would be the correct one.
This is the only time that I’ve seen Seth on a podcast / show, which was basically, for the most part, where the host is utilizing the concept of an interview, as a means to get clarity /consultation / coaching from one of the best marketing experts in the world. It was great that he was willing to go along with that, because EVEN that, was instructional for the viewer and the listener. And… along the way, there were moments where it was a traditional interview. He was very gracious, very generous, very concise and thoughtful with the words he chose, and the advice he gave. I enjoyed this tremendously. I’m going to share this with the people that I think this will resonate with, and impact their life in a positive way.
Great response and preface to the interview for a first time listener here. I too have heard of Seth and the Purple Cow book... I think Nipsey Hussle and Gary Vee mentioned him once... But I'm grateful for this interview and Erika for leading the conversation
Seeing a master at work is one of the most beneficial things that COULD have happened! The standard interview style is wonderful! At the same time, it has ALWAYS been easier for me to learn an idea by seeing it applied to real problems. This was amazing!
It's refreshing to here someone finally say "authenticity is overrated" Because no is interested in your bad day. It took me a year to accept that it's a performance. It's all a performance.
While I agree that whining and sympathy-seeking is selfish, if we get caught up for performing for the worlds approval, we enter into a system of unjust scales where we will never be able to live up to the expectations of man. Inevitably, we lose our identity in the process. Authenticity honors those we are called to serve and points them to truth, vs filtered.
I was ready to fight over his coment about authenticity- but he made a valid point about the need for consistency. I think authenticity has levels to it. There must be a balance, though, and ultimately the goal is to be relateable but in the most uplifting way. Of course people don't want to be discouraged. People are also tired of the same trends constantly regurgitated in different fonts. Bring fresh, new ideas to the scene. Don't be afraid of your own personality! That's what authenticity is to me.
One of the many gems that standout for me is Seth's take on authenticity: "Professionals do great work even when they don't feel like it" (12:20). This resonates with me so much!
@GillianLarmond Thank you so much for commenting with the timestamp of where Seth talked about authenticity. I missed it and this is what I was looking to go back and listen to. Have an amazing day! ✨
You have no idea what that means. You are so lucky he spent his valuable 30mins in teaching you. Please go back and watch this with some of your elder friends who are successful.
This is an amazingly good interview. When he said, "You are not a mediocre youtuber. What is true is that you weren't serving the UA-cam algorithm in a way that they rewarded you (paraphrased)," I stood up and clapped at the TV shouting, "Yes! Preach, brother preach!"
I love how Seth uses language. It's so direct, clear, and endowed with value! "Leadership isn't management. Leadership is leaning into something that's generative and generous that also might not work. I am really proud of all my failures; more proud than my successes because the failures are hard to come by, and pay off in the long run." - Seth Godin
I couldn't love Seth's final words more "I'm enough. I'm not working for a system that doesn't have my best interest at heart. Lean into the possibility I can create for other people ✨✨ and his advice to learn together in community. Your heartfelt advice is refreshing during a time where there is so much hype out there. Great interview, Erika !
Oh i have seen both 😂 very uncharismatic leaders that just make sense (“i don’t like the guy but he’s right”) and charismatic people that we like but would not follow (“he is so fun and makes me feel important but isn’t really an expert in the area”)
This interview gave me hope and vision in a world of blurred lines and an attitude of "meh". Seth has a wonderful way of wording his responses in a way that is clear and direct in removing any doubt as to the intent of the meanings. Too many people are hating on my life's work and not offering more productive and clear insight into what can be done to support and actualize my goals. This fuels me in ways that will sustain and propel me! Thank you for taking time to share this with us.
Their feedback is a valuable gift no matter what form it takes. They don't need to tell you what you want to hear. You can listen in between the lines to realize for yourself what important ingredients are lacking or out of balance in the presentation/content of your life's work.
Real talk, during this episode, Seth DID teach me that I'm enough. I didn't want to build a business where I had a team to take care of. I'm tired of taking care of people. But being able to be fine with being a freelancer is just so freeing. I will watch this one again. (I do disagree with that authenticity point bc I do feel that word is thought of incorrectly).
Yea, thanks for sharing🙏authenticity hmm🤔as Seth spoke, I immediately received "true aligned unconditioned self" , short, be or find your "true Self " is the much better fit...🎉...this was a very special podcast🙏🦋so grateful for both of them speaking their wisdom🙌...have amazing summer🌻Joy

Seth often makes points in a somewhat hyperbolic way to make a point. I have little doubt he would agree with your definition of beneficial authenticity.
Grateful for Seth’s general replies to Erika’s specific questions tying to her own business. Not everyone is in personal finance business so it was nice to hear his perspective to marketing. Love how he teaches! I could sit in his class for hours
I just started reading "This is Marketing" by Seth Godin. So this interview was great timing. I was impressed with his view of helping people and not all the other stuff.
This lady is an amazing interviewer. She asks all the right questions, and also delves deeper, which makes for me the most insightful Seth Godin interview I’ve ever heard.
Wow, after listening to other podcasts on UA-cam and thinking, that was 30 min of my life wasted that I am not getting back. This one was exceptional for the value it imparted. I am saving the transcript, so I can go through it slowly and take notes. Thank you so much for sharing this, your questions were engaging and spot on. Erika you are doing a wonderful thing.
This is one of the best Seth Godin interviews I’ve heard. So very valuable on so many levels. It’s given me clarity which will get better after I’ve relistened this another 10 times Brilliant Erika
He forgot to mention the power of being an effective teacher. At 56, this was so powerful for me, I understood every piece of information he presented. It changed my entire thought process, Thank you!
I am a freelancer and I just started my own social media posting. It's great to have the questions Erika asked because they are exactly what I need to hear. I took so many notes and I am eager to put them into practice. Big Thanks to both of you!
Running a small business I am watching this great video from France and that's a MASTER CLASS really Amazing content in simple words that anyone Can understand. You both made huge impact on lifes by doing this. Thank you so much Erika and Seth Gobin 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have heard more than just a few of Seth Godin's interviews and honestly this was by far the best one precisely because you put yourself out there and asked questions related to your business. It was like listening to an interview but being the fly on the wall of a coaching session. I took notes on this interview and actually was able to implement stuff to my own business right away.
ERIKA! I loved how you personalized your questions. They seemed raw and vulnerable as if you are trying to fix leaks in your business today. Very relatable!!! Thank you.

Enjoyed watching your coaching session with Seth. 😁 How amazing is that? He’s incredible. I LOVED what he said about AI! And, as a woman who is wanting to build a community, I loved what he said about enrollment. It’s getting someone to voluntarily expose themselves to effort and emotional labor to get to where you hope to take them. Brilliant. 🎉 Thanks Seth - and Erica! 😊
Seth is such a brilliant, kind and humble human. So much wisdom in his words. I took lots of notes I'm going to implement. Erika I came across your channel because of Seth, and will start to check your content as well, as I've no clue about finance, and I should educate myself about it! And if Seth came on your show means that you're good at what you do! 😉
This was honestly petty insightful. I have been thinking a lot about navigating the space between doing what is necessary to make a living with my business and making things that have a true impact/are fulfilling. I think understanding that even if the work is boring it does not diminish its importance to the business/world is very critical to succeeding in the long term. Thank you for bringing Seth Godin on Erika!
I have kind of heard of Seth forever and you, Erika, more recently and I really enjoyed this podcast and seeing your strugges and requests for advice. So many gems in this podscast. Very valuable. Information.

Hi Erika. Greetings from Johannesburg South Africa. I just came across your channel and have subscribed. I love this information and found it so useful. Seth is outstanding, clear, concise with no fluff. Absolutely brilliant.
20:00 "Whats the smallest audience that can sustain your mission. Anything beyond that is a bonus" I love that. When we keep chasing the bigger number (eg followers) is there actual quality in that. My cousin has been pushing me to join TikTok because I can gain a bigger audience much quicker. And even though I see the results of how that can be, I just can't vibe with the TikTok ecosystem.
This was one of the best podcasts I have ever heard/seen. Great questions by Erica and fantastic answers from Seth. I never comment on anything online, but just this was an incredible interview and really enjoyed it.
Erika, thank you so much for bringing your personal journey into this interview. As a viewer, the wisdom that Seth was able to impart because of your willingness to be vulnerable was really valuable to me. Thank you both for such a great interview! I'll be finding that email!
Erika's hard and fast rules can be ... "These are the things you need to understand." And then how you act on them ... "depends." It can still be personalized while providing guidance on the areas you need to understand in order to apply them to your personal situation. :)
Amazing content! The wisdom is incredible, not only about marketing but also about what all this is about, what life is about, and why we do what we intend to do.
Dude this made me justify all my instincts about everything. Best calibration ever. I'm in coffee. Calibration to mindsets is like calibration to coffee scores. We need to agree on what an 85 tastes like so we can send a container of it across the ocean and not deliver an 83. Now I use that same sort of color wheel to make to THE BEST lyrics. Calibrated to anything to that matters to the song I'm writing. Really listen to this man. Its a profound outlook. Mostly.
Grateful I've landed this podcast! Incase you need a hand in terms of email back end support (much more personalized level) I'm up for that!! Captured a lot from this Seth Godin!!!
Amazing interview, I love how free this man feels and stays out of the social media violent algorithms. Great advice, knowledge and experience. His closing line also very inspiring. Thank you!
This was such an amazing conversation to listen to and felt so good to hear from Seth, he seems to have all the right answers 🙏 Especially in a time of all the social media racing around trying to get attention and win the algorithm (as a small business owner). Thank you for reminding me the essence of things about true marketing and shining some light for a better future on my creative journey ❤️

Such an enjoyable and full of wisdom interview. Thanks Erika.
This video is amazing. Thank you Erika and Seth!
Very refreshing to the mind and heart.
It was a great conversation between both of you and actually spoke out what was in mind!! Great Job Erika and Seth
Thank you very much Erika.
Your curiosity brought the best in Seth. You are both amazing
That's WILD that you got Seth Godin on the podcast!!! He's HUGE!
Erika, thank you so much for bringing your personal journey into this interview. As a viewer, the wisdom that Seth was able to impart because of your willingness to be vulnerable was really valuable to me.
Thank you both for such a great interview! I'll be finding that email!
A very powerful episode learnt a lot, and thank you for asking such good questions ❤..
This interview was really helpful. Long time fan of Seth Godin and I loved your thoughtful questions.
I loved listening to this podcast. It was a great episode, well done. Seth Godin is such a humble, wise human. Thank you for sharing
Thank you Seth and Erika!
Mostly.
This episode is literally solid gold 🥇 and I'm going to watch it again and again
Great conversation! Thank you for featuring Seth Godin on your show.
