pound for pound the GOAT. total limb independence with dynamic control over each one, writes instanstly recognisable and musical parts. make the complex seem effortless and graceful, can deliver blistering power when needed but never overshadows the piece even at his most intricate.
humble dude too.
Estepario Siberiano is a speed demon and has impressive limb independence and power. Quite the showman too....BUT...I just don't think anyone can match Danny for sheer genius in composing, timing and just all around....badassery. He's a damn sorcerer. Pure sonic MAGICK! He has my whole heart forever!
As far as speed nah. Marco Pitruzella was playing 340 bpm a decade ago.
My thoughts,too.
Carey is known as the Octopus, he has excellent independent limb control and always on point, never skips a beat and most of tools songs are over 10 minutes. Gotta have alot of stamina to be doing that. Tool is my favorite band and there isn't one album I don't like. I wish there was more. I can only hope for 1 more to come out before they call it a career. Danny and Maynard are 60 though, so not sure how long they will keep going especially because they have young kids. Some bands play well into their 70s and TOOL seem to really be enjoying themselves lately. I think they've got a few years left, maybe 1 more album but if not I'm sure they'll do a couple more tours. They haven't announced a farewell tour yet so I know I haven't missed my chance to see them live. I missed them in Toronto in November 2023. They were here 2 nights too. I'll definitely see the next one when they're here, don't care if the ticket is $500.
There is no better drummer. Hes amazing, the whole band is amazing. The kind of Godly
No better at creating drum parts, but skill wise there are some that are just as good or even better.
💯
He's definitely got the most uniquely distinctive style of anybody. You hear a song and can just yell it's Danny carey
treu, but it’s the same with gavin, you can hear it straight away that it’s him.
They were GOAT’d a long time ago. One of a handful of bands from that era that still pack arenas. Like them or love them.. they’ve earned a spot.
Ever since Neil Pert passed, Danny is best drummer on the planet. I have been blessed to see both of them perform live. Thanks for the POV!!!!
Rip Pert, thank drumming gods Carey was here to take his place
100 %. I was lucky enough to see both twice. Just saw Tool for the 2nd time two months ago. They are like fine wine (punn intended), they keep getting better and better with age. Pert was just amazing! But, for me, it's Danny all day!
Tool is an experience, feelings, emotions, art, musicianship, talent.
He's absolutely the best drummer alive. He took the torch after Peart passed. I never really liked Rush a whole lot, but nobody can dispute Pearts drumming as the GOAT.
To listen to Rush you have to listen to the vocals, ugh ! And I don’t relate to their lyrics, just no for me but I love Tool !
He is god but Peart and Portnoy is better
I never listened to them as a band, i do listen to them as instruments.
He is right up there with Carl Palmer from ELP. Not enough people know that Carl has been performing for twice as long as these guys & still can play
Each masters of their craft, the best band of my lifetime.
Been a Tool fan for nearly 30 years and I'm seeing them live for the first time tomorrow. Could not be more excited. Somehow they've gotten better with every album. Remarkable.
Funny story...they were on the side stage at Lollapalooza and we wandered over. I was a fan at first note. It was Primus, Tool, Rage and many others that were sort of in the 'background'. I bought tickets for the remaining show in CA and couldn't have been happier.
Danny Carey is in another dimension. Seen TOOL more times than I can count. Every time was amazing.
I've seen TOOL 8 times ( 6 in Australia once in Ireland and once in France). I would see them every week if I could. The ultimate experience.
The best at what he does. Hands down
At 10 minutes he looks at Justin with a worried look and after the last fill he looks back at Justin with that smile like we nailed it brother! Makes me smile every time
Just saw them at Aftershock recently. They played an amazing set which all sounded so clean. Their production is second to none.
Seen tool live a few times. Absolutely amazing. Hard to describe in words. Danny is by far the best. GOAT for sure
Danny is a wizard. A master of his craft beyond all comparison, in a class of his own. An absolute legend.
Danny Carrey stays in god mode. Yes he most certainly is the GOAT
They have different styles they are both in my top ten
Yes I am a fan and I think Danny is one of the best drummers in the world
For me I like the both of them for different reasons. The time signatures that Danny plays in is unmatched.
Polyrhythm master.. makes it look so easy
Danny's versatility & vast knowledge of the drums is second to none, it's the immersion depth particularly that you just don't get with any other drummer. Favorite tool song probably would be fourtysix&two............ I've of course seen them live, only once though, a bit disappointed that I missed their last show in NZ, the pandemic played a disruptive role in that damn it!! The stage show live is amazing, as is their flawless talent & ability to remain as close to studio accurate more than can be believed. You can over play some music with an outcome of negative effects & dislike of such. In all truthfulness this has never been the case with listening to Tool. That drum cam version of Pneuma I've listened to it guess we'll over a hundred times, though I still get the magical spine shivers (don't really know what to call that sensation) every time, even now. The immersion factor of Tool.
I missed that same concert in NZ, but my sister caught it, she said it was epic.
Tool fan since the release of undertow in New Zealand. Yep, way way back then.
🤘🏻
First time seeing Tool live was in 2002, Meshuggah opened for them. I have since been to both bands concerts, yes they are experiences...
Wow what a combo!!! A hell of a show!!!
Aenima was my fav for a long time, but ever since getting into these reactions of Tool, every song I listen to is now my favourite. This one pops up a lot, but only because getting to see Danny work up close like this is such a treat. Have to imagine there's more footage from this concert, and I wish they'd release the whole thing at some point.
Went to the show that was recorded at. Best way I can describe seeing them live is, it feels like being on a drug without being on drugs.
Seen them live seven times.First was the Undertow tour.Last time was Fear Innoculum.Tool tickets are not cheap, and I don't make a lot of money.Yes,the live show borders on a religious experience.Worth every penny.Oh,Tool fans are like a union or a brotherhood with lots of sisters,or a club.We love to welcome new members. Yeah...go see them live. You might regret the opening act. That is a roll of the dice.
Been a fan for 30 years and in January of 2020 was able to catch the Nashville Tennessee show. It’s was so much more than I had always heard. And in January of 2024 will see them again and in April will see A Perfect Circle for the second time and Puscifer for the first time, together in Franklin Tennessee.
Just saw that Sessanta show last night at red rocks. Was a really fun show... although some technical issues prevented the finale they had intended(with all 3 bands one stage at once).
The fact they don’t use a click is the most insane part for me.
They use click tracks
Seen them live twice. Once tripping hard and once sober. Can’t decide which was better. Seriously a life changing event. I missed the last tour cuz I got the Covid. My wife and I were devastated.
Seen them in Biloxi Ms and it was life changing
GOAT, is tough, for any top tier, but the he is in the discussion
Yes ...I have seen them live 23 times and it's "Out of this World " A true Experience !
Danny Carey is definitely one of the greatest ever. His control, and musicality is so good. Ever single hit means something.
He is the 🐐
Its beautiful. Whales singing in the ocean give me a similar calming sensation as his percussion skills do.
I think my favorite reaction video to this performance was the drum teacher who said "I will not be covering any Tool songs. I CAN'T!"
You mentioned a drummer I had never heard of before and I had to turn on closed captioning to even figure it out, lmao. Thanks for the link up to El Estepario Siberiano, but as good as he is... I think Danny takes him, lol.
My favorite song by tool musically is probably Descending. Although I will say, Schism wasn't even in my top 5 until I heard it in a particular context. I was driving home from the hospital where my dad was just days before he died. I was always blasting Tool in the truck and I heard Schism randomly and started to tear up. It's hard to pick a favorite Tool song. I think it's crazy how many nerves they can touch with different songs and still manage to feel like you're strong in times of struggle. They say, 'Here's a particular fundamental human struggle and here's the energy you need to get through it.'
Sorry about your dad! Schism is one of those ones that I don’t think gets enough credit! Definitely touches you in the feels if you’ve got someone on the mind!
I saw them at the end of January and, like when I saw them in 98, they were, again, the BEST live show I've seen! I've been lucky enough to see a lot. So dam clean. Sometimes it is so good it sounds like it's playing from a CD. They are EXACT! As you would expect.
What makes Danny better is how technical he is and that he has the mind to creat something like this. Tool is great live, Maynard can’t scream like he use too but the sound and the lights are definitely worth seeing live. Stinkfist is my favorite song. Alternates calm then angry with a nasty rift!
My favorite song from them right now is Descending.
Best of all time? No. Alive? Hell yeah
When he start backhanding the symbol you know he knows he nailed it.
Danny is the goat. Proved it over so many years. El estepario is on a league of his own and one day he might be considered the greatest.
Both are on top of the food chain and that’s why we love them.
Danny has almost 60 pieces of equipment & a big ass 12ft gong behind him that he uses. Not in this video but look @ Aenima tour or the next,he throws his sticks in air grabs his gong stick smashes then catches his drum sticks. Crazy stuff
Yes he is the GOAT!
I gotta see that
He has definitely earned respect as a drummer and will always be one of my favorites
bro hell yea! tool is playin in my city in a month but its so expensive :o im def tryna go tho, been a huge fan but never seen em live
seen Tool 4 times, it's like going to spiritual church.
Love how this video is about Danny , but most comments talk about tool as a whole band , I suppose it's like talking about a train engine , you have to mention what it pulls lol
Get to see these guys Feb 3rd 2024 at Paycom center in OKC. Tickets were expensive af but these guys are worth it.
Have family flying in from out of state to go to the show with us.
Just saw your comment and wanted to see if you're still riding that high? Lol i saw them in Nov and it's wearing off so I'll need to go again soon=)
I hope you had a great time!!
Tool is number 1
Tool Army 🖤
Many great drummers out there but Danny is King of polyrhythms
One of the
Best , you seen him miss up in this video look to the end how many can see it?
Will be my 3rd time on Jan 12. Bringing my 10 yo son to see them at the garden in NY for his first ever live show. CANT WAIT
he’s unique to say the least.
amazing shows! going to knoxville nov 3rd nashville jan 23rd seen them at Bonnaroo twice nashville in 2020 and several times years back! always so damn good!!
I want to go to a Tool concert so I can start shut and have Danny Cary kick my ass. I've been hoping for this for 25 years!
Yep saw them and he was as perfect on the drums as ur seeing him now, amazing!!!!!
“Ladies and gentlemen we have the glorious pleasure of witnessing the Octopus in his Natural Habitat”
- David Attenborough
Love them❤🎉❤
You can feel Neil peart flowing through the ride bell 🤙🤙
Ticks and Leeches is by far their best song
Danny hands down, it's not just about skill, it's the uniqueness, the polyrhythms, the incorporation of so many ethnic styles blended on the regular, and not just a temporary treat. That's why he is the best. There are others who have the skill capacity, but not the imagination, at least not for the time being🫠
I saw Tool a couple weeks ago in Edmonton, AB. By far the best concert I've been too.
Tool are the musicians band, casuals don't appreciate how complex their songs are. Danny Carey for me, is the greatest living drummer, I can't think of anyone who can write and perform at this level. I'm seeing them live in June, cannot wait.
I love tool they are the real perfect circle I think he's the best drummer in the business
He is so relaxed on the kit. A sign of a strong and confident drummer. And yes he is the GOAT, no disrespect to Neil.
I've seen them live. They're amazing. I'm getting ready to see them live again in Feb. The best band and the best drummer, hands down. The concert I saw them in, they had about a 20-minute segment where it was just Danny playing. It was awesome.
I don't know if he's the greatest or not, but he's my favorite
Checking out Tool in Toronto in November 👍
Of course Danny is awesome and I have seen this performance. What I loved about the reaction was the zoomed in view and no pausing. Excellent content. Keep up the good work.
danny carey best of all time
That's how I discovered Tool. I saw them live at Oz Fest in Alpine Valley Wisconsin. 1998.
I kept asking who are these guys? And, How come I never heard of them?
Yes. He is the GOAT.
Hes phenomenally brilliant😊
He's at least the best currently doing it, if not all time.
Seen them 5 times. This is by far their best current song performance. It is magical.
Greatest drummer of all time!!!
Tough question. Think it depends on style. He has to be up there with the best. I would also put Gavin Harrison up there 🤘
THE GOAT..... no doubt!!
Carey, Peart. Is Sibriano close. Peart is the goat, though. It's such a great song. Tool might be the best all-around band in the world
tool live is a miss of my life last year in poland
They are the modern day Pink Floyd. They just draw you in and won’t let you go.
You don’t ever want it to end even though you can replay the song! Floating in their world is the closest I think I can get to heaven on earth with nothing else bothering me and a good set of cans on!
My wife got us vip a few years a go we were front row infront of Justin . Absolutely incredible how good they are
Danny is very good for a human… Estepario is from another planet…
EES is the Harlem Globetrotters equivalent of drummers.
I've seen both TOOL & Rush. Danny's drumming stood out to me more.
👍 Cool vibes!!
🤘🏻
I see now why he's called "the octopus". What a great drummer. I'm a lifelong RUSH fan, so I grew up listening to Neil Peart's drumming lines; to me he was the GOAT. Now that's he's left us (RIP, Neil), I'd have to say Danny has earned the title of Rock's greatest drummer... and, in some way, has surpassed Neil. Hard for me to say that, but what I've just seen in this video is absolute greatness...
Been a massive solo Tool fan since buying the cd Anemia album back in high school , I Never appreciated the drums till I watched Danny (Doc Ock) Carey weave his sticks like he has eight bloody arms . I mean, try keeping a rhythm let alone a different beat stroke for each hand beat then increasing it 😮 Take a friggin bow Danny C . Awesome yeew!
GOAT no question in my mind is my personal opinion. I’m Australian based Tool fan come down under please !!! 😂
Favorite Tool song..... The one I am listening to at any given time 😅!
I still have Peart, Bonham, and Moon as my top 3 but Danny Carey 100% belongs in that conversation. I'm only saying for "rock" drummers, obviously there are amazing drummers in other genres, Mr Guy specifically
I've seen tool 10 x live an each time is better than the previous you must see them live at least once. Danny's in my top five for sure.
I know nothing about drumming… but for me, Danny is a GOD. His use of different percussion instruments, his ability to play different rythms at the same time, his creativity; he is amazingly incredible. I saw them live in Montreal on November 19 and it was an experience. I’m hooked! I’m even considering going to the US or Europe next year to see them again. I have seen videos of Estepario Siberiano. Although he seems to have amazing technical skills, it leaves me cold with no emotions. Tool’s music gives me chills, I love all their songs! 🔥❤
That's sweet of you that you let Danny use you as a percussion.
Best drummer best band ever....best band you will ever see live
loved them at first hearing
There's 3 drummers.
John Bonham
Neil Peart
Danny Carey
Seen them 5 times. Best band. Live performances are phenomenal
