Derek and the Dominos was “ In Concert “ has always been my favorite live album!! I never thought I’d be able to learn this dynamic song, but now I can sit down and really learn it!! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome tune and how to play it with all of us who love it!!!
One of the best performances of this is from an extra bonus DVD that was included with copies of Crossroads Festival 2007 sold at Best Buy. It's a 9:43 minute version that includes an extended bass solo by Willie Weeks. At first listen, that solo is a tad long but in the overall scheme of things, it morphs the song from a too-short riff based song to a long groove oriented song. You did a great job here pulling out all of the picking / accent subtleties that make the song pop.
You helped me out a lot on this song. Clapton rarely plays the a song the same way twice! There are 2 live Derek a and the Dominos live albums. "In concert" and Live at the Filmore. Both albums were recorded on the same 5 dates but most are recorded on different nights. " Why Dose Love Got to be So Sad are totally different! One song I would like you to teach is Roll It Over! Same on both albums. Some of his best wah wah !
Great lesson, Brian, thank you. Took me about an hour yesterday to nail it and then another 2 hours to stop jamming and rocking out to it, Bit of a late night last night....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Great lesson! It’s been years later, forgot just how it goes and to save time I hoped I’d find my OG source material. That was it. You killed it! One of the easiest & most fun Clapton songs to play + the first time I heard Clapton perform this it was life changing bc I could relate at the time. To know a legend like Eric experienced the same struggles and is doing amazing now is grounding. Thanks for your tutorial!
Also sounds great to play and sing on acoustic. Flattering as it was, although I did not agree, I’ve had friends say they liked my acoustic version better. Perhaps I should start posting vids on here. I’ll have to check out more of your lessons. Much Love!
Eric Clapton was/is a great rhythm player - that doesn’t get mentioned very often. This song was being recorded for Derek and The Dominos second album but wasn’t finished when Eric walked out of the sessions ... Bobby Whitlock added his keyboards and completed the vocals for the 40th Anniversary 2CD release of the Layla album. Great to see a lesson on this!
Wow...fantastic loved it...btw, the original LP was "in concert" the "at the Fillmore" is a later version the same thing but some tracks are from different sessions.
juste one detail to mention : after watching quite a bit of concert, the end of the main verse is first the chord widely used by Clapton D/F# - G- E and after for the ending he plays the D in barre chord to end the verse... that"s what i see. ;-) The 3 first chords are the same in "change the word" acoustic part.
Great lesson, and easy to follow; many thanks for that. It helped for learning that descending lead line in the later verses on the live recording as well!
I should also thank Eric Clapton for coming up with a truly great song and awesome guitar piece! When he plays this tune at Royal Albert Hall with Doyle Bramhall playing rhythm is an awesome concert! Doyle playing upside down blows me away! If I were jamming with him, I don’ think I could look at him and keep playing on track. It would totally throw me off! Lol!
Correction ... Derek and the Dominos did record this in the studio. I've been listening to it since the 90's. The studio version is far more laid back and one of my favorites. It's on UA-cam if you do a little searching for it. Thanks :)
Rolf Bennewitz I think it has to do with copy right issues. I don't think tabs can be posted unless it's 'in the style of' or something like that. At any rate, if it's clear that it's connected to the site that includes paid member (which I've found to be totally worth it, btw)- then that should get around any copy right issues.
Great lesson. Will your covers be added to ActiveMelody.com? I'm a premium member and couldn't find it there. I think the other members would really love these.
This version is quite different from the studio Derek and and the Dominoes version but if you look at the video of Clapton performing the song at the concert for Hurricane Sandy as just a trio, it is pretty close.
Underrated Clapton song. Glad he's brought it back lately. HIs voice is even better now.

I thought I was the only guy who appreciated that album. Sad to say, Mr. Clapton was at his best as a tortured heroin addict at aged 23-25.
I can’t believe I found this lesson for my favorite D and D song. Thank you Brian for sharing this and all the time it must have taken.
Most acurate version on the web! Tnx a lot!
That was so Eric Clapton. Awesome.
Saw him do it with a 3 piece band relief for hurricane sandy brilliant
You're there in spirit - lots of muted up-stroke, down-stroke, hammering, vibrato and fluid melody - Clapton takes a new path every time.
Thanks for the lesson, i always want to play that song, but i never try it. but seeing you do it that clear and accurate i'm going for it.!!

Thanks for the great lesson, Brian. Never thought I'd be playing this awesome song from the Dominos.
Thanks for this great tuto man, just saw Clapton perform it in Paris !
Thank you for making this great lesson. I really appreciate it. Great tune. You’re a really really good player

Wow you nailed this. One of my favorite EC songs.
So glad someone did a lesson!! Thanks so much for this rare song

IS. I just saw him in September in Denver and he hasn't lost a thing.
Great job! I'm just relearning this and the tab is incomplete and incorrect. Thanks, I love this.
This song is so good. Such a cool groove
Great lesson. Most accurate I have seen. Brilliant tone and playing. Thanks a lot.
Great teaching style. Thanks
thanks so much for your great lesson !!!!!
Just discovered this and love this lesson thanks.
Like your teaching style man.
Very concise.
Thanx
Well done Brian! Sounds and looks spot on! Thank you! Very cool!
Thank you for taking the time to post this tutorial. I always wanted to play this tune and you made it happen.
The first three chords for the main riff are based on the basic blues shuffle in e.
Great Lesson thanks.
Brian, thanks so much for the lesson, I forgot about this super tune. but i will be playing her now.
Thanks again
Great lesson Brian. You really make it happen for my learning speeeeed.... I suck! good job.
Wow...fantastic loved it...btw, the original LP was "in concert" the "at the Fillmore" is a later version the same thing but some tracks are from different sessions.
Well done Brian! It is an awesome tune! Thank you!
Great easy lesson!

Thanks Brian. Excellent interpretation of one of my favorite Derek and the Dominoes songs! Can't wait to start playing it. Cheers.
Great lesson!
Great lesson. Thanks - one of EC's best.
EDIT: Also really nice tone coming from that Strat/Twin combination
thank you brian,a lot of good stuff to practice....
but that's nothing new, every week is a blast!

Legend
My hero! Thank You
Amigo!! Thank you so much! Your lesson was awsome! It's easier than I thought, now to practice a lot! Regards from México!
Thanks a bunch for this... I've been wingin' it so far but this is so easy!! Thanks again man!!
Great lesson. Would love to learn some of that lead stuff that Eric plays in the song.
One of my favorite songs. Thanks so much!
Really great song to play and as usual a great lesson from Brian 😀
That was excellent, such a cool groove on that song, great job!!
alguien sabe el nombre del efecto del pedal que ocupa en esta cancion ?
Simply great lesson. Thank you. More of these
Rocking out man. That's awesome.
Thank you very very much
WOW! Thank You!
How about a lesson for "come back baby" by Clapton from his Reptile album?
Nice Job!
great, thanks
good job
Great lesson. Thanks once again.
Very nice lesson, but you forgot the descending E minor pentatonic lick that transitions out from the solo.
Awesome lesson, thank you!
Thanks Brian, Nice lesson.!!!
Excellent as usual......thanks
Awesome, thanks!!!
What for pedal is that

Here's Johnny It wasn't released on the original Derek and the Dominoes album but in much later editions.
Thanks
Sounds fine. It reminds me of the opening of Change the World.
Sweet lesson. Which wah are you using?
If I’m not mistaken in the first part Clapton is muting all the strings and strumming the note 3:15
On that great beginning riff I can not stop hitting the B string! Sounds terrible, any tips anyone?
I only had to hear a few notes before I knew this guy HAD IT.
I'm premium member and don't see either COV004 or COV005. But both great lessons
Wow
Great lesson for a great song. What key is it in?
E minor
High Brian, I'm a member of Active Melody but don't see lessons for COV004
I'm not putting these on the ActiveMelody website - these covers are only here on this UA-cam channel.
Active Melody why not, i think its better to have all Lessons at one Place.
Rolf Bennewitz Yep, I think it would be better, as a lot of people are just simply not following this account, but following Active Melody!
Rolf Bennewitz I think it has to do with copy right issues. I don't think tabs can be posted unless it's 'in the style of' or something like that. Only super accounts get it
Super FRANCE
Makes me want to buy a wa-waaaaaaaa
Think you're overcomplicating the intro, but apart from that i agree :)
Sorry the riff is played totaly wrong!
yea it is odee played incorrectly
If you watch a live video of this its closer to being right than wrong
This version is quite different from the studio Derek and and the Dominoes version but if you look at the video of Clapton performing the song at the concert for Hurricane Sandy as just a trio, it is pretty close.
Its spot on.
He said they played the live album version, not the stuido.
Derek and the dominos at the filmore live.
If you have never listened to derek and the dominos live at fillmore i din't even know why you are here.
You sound very harsh, try to Play more soulful, fluently
关注了你一年,今天发现你长胖了。
Great lesson for a badass song!,
Fantastic lesson. Thanks!
