In Canada we don’t use block heaters to prevent freezing. That would guarantee a cracked block if the power went out or a breaker tripped (pretty common when using a block heater). It’s all about being able to start the engine and minimizing damage when it does. This was much more important pre synthetic oil and fuel injection. Battery warmers are also common .

Nice import Kei Benny. My Kei truck is nearly QLD full rego ready (72 KEI). TN360 111 bought local from Guy King (mate of Al's) here on the sunny coast. 10"Tyres can be bought in all sizes from your local golf cart parts dealer. I'm going 205/65/10. Suspension is the hard to find part. Cool rig, love it.
I used to have Multi Cab as we say in the Philippines where I lived for 10 years and after trading my Yamaha motorbike I bought a Multi cab and yes it is a very handy and cool little truck, I always enjoyed the truck, small but efficient and in the Philippines traffic is something else so this truck fitted perfect for my work, small building projects, a nice little truck
The block heater is not to keep the coolant from freezing. We use them so the engines will start easier and less wear on the engine if it’s pre heated before you start it.
Love this van! Pretty sure some of the Mini guys in Australia will run Yokohama A032Rs or A008s which are both 167/70R10s. We get A008s here and Dunlop R7s and Dunlop D93s for our Minis locally. They're all 165 tyres.

I'm 28 FFS, and I feel you. To be fair it my spine is really crooked and my whole left side is munted because of it. But I felt you, bro, I felt you.

I looked through the comments hoping to find something about the Road Runner decals and his catch-phrase 'beep beep' on the tailgate. How did your Grandfather come to be a Road Runner fan? Was Road Runner popular in Japan also?
Great vehicle, definitely where no one asks how much power does it have?. Excellent mod on the wheel mountings, 10" wheels and tyres are less plentiful here in the UK, interesting to know they are available in Japan. Thanks for sharing.

Funny, that "Remove the filler plug before the drain plug" thing I was taught in grade 11 mechanics class in high school by my teacher Mr. Fraser, a very old school cool teacher who had a VERY nice T-bucket 1/4 mile car. That little truck is in amazing condition, well done keeping it mostly stock! I've got a 2008 rear engine Subaru Dia Kei Van, I just love that little truck, when the engine eventually wears out, I'll get it rebuilt and breathed on a bit. BTW we use the Gregorian calendar here in Japan, have so since the Meiji period in 1873, that said we use the nengō calendar (Years of Emperor reign) as well, kind of bilingual. I'm sure you have lots of contacts in the biz in Japan, but I'm in Tokyo and would help if needed. Cheers!
Late to the party here but glad you're not swapping engine - that's what everyone tells me to do but it buzzes nicely on the standard 29BHP engine. Not sure if you found nice 10" tyres but the Yokohama A032R have a sexy tread and come in 165/70/10 which have a nice matching overall tyre diameter to the 145/80/10.
This is fantastic, what a cute little truck. For your next neat find you should track down a Toyota Sport 800 and see if you even fit in it. I know there's been at least one here in Australia; I have an old photo print of it parked near Mansfield in Victoria in [guessing from the visible age of the print] the 1970s. Silvery-grey paint. Gorgeous little car.
4:20 .What are the 3 black spots / bolt hole covers above the left front turn signal light? I also see there are no outside mirrors, is this typical? Also, for a Kei car vid in Japan, have a look at BEGIN Japanology - K cars on the channel Japanology
Japan's medium wave 'AM' radio band is 531-1611kHz, so you will be able to use a Japanese AM radio in Australia. The Japanese VHF 'FM' band, as you well know, is 76-95MHz, which only overlaps a portion of the Australian 88-108MHz FM broadcast band.
love the truck,...been wanting one myself, i hope you don't mind me correcting you on something. I live in canada and you mentoned a "Block heater". it does not keep your coolant warm, we run antifreeze in our cooling system usually rated at -40C. what a block heater does is help keep the block and oil warm which aids in cold starting. the cold weather makes the oil thick, and battery gets weak, making it starting harder in colder weather
The two year inspection is called a JCI inspection. They do a mechanical inspection at a garage, then you take the car to the land tax office for two more inspections plus about 4-700 dollars for the taxes and JCI insurance. Takes a couple of days to do sometimes.
Regarding the paperwork. The first few colored pages are service records. The white card is an insurance card. The next paper after that is a 24 month vehicle inspection.
Hey Benny, it’s about time you did a Keitora! :). I have a 1992 Subaru Sambar with the Supercharged 660cc 4 cylinder engine here in the US. A few notes, 10” wheels are not a requirement for Kei cars or trucks, most of the newer models have 12” and 13” wheels, and there were some in the 550cc days with 12s as well. Also, 4x100 was more common in the 660cc era as well. The Sambar and Honda Acty both use that PCD, and I am sure there are more.
That would look really nice as a four-wheel drive with some like 31 under it .but I can understand that it's in good shape so you don't want to mess it up
4 x 100 wheels = V W In Canada we use 100 coolant , but a frost heater isn't for keeping coolant warm... its for keeping the oil warm. Cold oil is super thick leading to oiling related problems.
What a great truck! I have been on the lookout for one of these for some time. I love my 96 Daihatsu Hijet but that Mazda is cool. I am based in Western Japan so if there is any special part you are on the lookout for, let me know.
Here in Wyoming we use block heaters so the engine will actually start in the winter. My 2005 Ford diesel absolutely refuses to start if it's not plugged in below 0°F.
Excellent, what fluid was one of the first to be drained, looked like dirty milk! Probably just light. Got a Daihatsu Hijet myself, really fun van, you will love it. Nice to see a car program actually looking at a small van, usually big cars or big engine swaps out of reach of us mere mortals. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
As i own a tyre shop ( by I am in WA) Yokohama - A 008 165/70R10 72H might be the way to go on the rear. Look it up and see if you can get some over there.

Benny, It would go Anywhere. We took our 550cc honda Acty van across the Hay plain to Adelaide from Sydney for a couple of weeks holiday and came back along the Great Ocean Road, it fitted a double futon in the back and everything else wee needed. I would really miss that van except we now have a Mitsubishi Minicab Miev EV, now that won't go far...on one charge. edit. PS our Split window Kombi weighs 980kg and can carry 1000kg (Edit again), Parts from the right hand cylinder bank of a 1000cc Goldwing fit the two cylinder Honda Acty van motor.
Maybe a tiny as turbo setup colab with your old mates at the skid factory, mid mount tiny as turbo so your not worried about going up a hill and a diff ratio change would just need some piping and plumbing and jetting and you away.. Maybe a fin type air to air intercooler retro as.. and completely replaceable...
Interesting what you said about the yellow paint, I never even thought about that. I just went and jacked up my 2016 Alto Works and it's been marked with blue :) but its on all the bolts, rear diff, pulleys etc etc. How short are the service intervals? Mine are really short, like every 2500-5000km. The engine oil is barely discoloured!

I found a few Subaru-branded Kei trucks in rural Japan. Mad little unit.
Over there, they basically fill the roll of a road-legal wheelbarrow.
Subaru had a grunty supercharged version. No longer produced but still popular because none of the makers does a forced induction unit now.
Toyota makes them too.

noticed the plymouth road runner emblem on the driver door.
my first car was a '68 road runner. *keep this kei stock!*
I currently have a 68 roadrunner and saw that. must be a 69 emblem as it was colour not black and white.
ポーター手に入れたんですね! 大事にしているのを見ると日本人として嬉しいです

Was totally gonna say you should put a rotor in it. Lol. Sweet little truck though mate, she's clean.
what, no beauty shots with the new wheels?
You saved me typing that.
A nice side profile shot of the truck for the outro would have been great.
