SMITE is similar to DoTA gameplay but instead of being above the action you are IN the action. Close third-person camera instead of RTS view. Move with WASD instead of clicking on a map. Detailed graphics and visual FX. ACTION combat, dodging, and aiming. Everything is a skill-shot. Free-to-Play but not pay-to-win.

They’ve just found it hard to balance her, she used to be really OP like could press one or two abilities then just kill you straight away so they wanted to nerf her then ended up re modelling and re working her then she was under used now they want to change her back to how she used to be (WHICH IS DIFFERENT to how she was in this video) which is how she was released. Pft
Fun fact: Some dwarfs gave Freya her necklace after she had sex with them :D

Just started playing yesterday, really confused by the game play but really love the visual styling of this game and the characters. So far my favourite gods are Neith, Freya and fenrir. I hope I can learn this game.

I've been playing for a couple of weeks.
sailornaruto39 Playing against other people so far I seem to be really good rocking neith. Although in Runescape terms, I think people would hate me and refer to me as a 'Safer fag'. But my K/D and score ratio as Neith is great.
If that means what I think im the same way. Not too big on being up close and personal
sailornaruto39 Its the best way to play IMO but I know it annoys people who aren't into strategy and are too eager to get kills quickly rather than deploying thought to strategy.
Don't get me wrong, I have about 8 deaths, but that's from people who properly organised their attacks into united strength.
I play neith as a hard hit and run style and only advance while opponents are broken up.
***** That's how I try to play Amaterasu and after gaining some experience and understanding other characters I know how to avoid certain moves and take advantage of teammates skills, but sometimes I get too eager for a kill.
It's a really fun game, hope to see you in game XD
Also most champions, heroes and gods are similar to those of other games because there is a limit to what can be made balanced in this sort of game which can make sense in a lore.
I like when new mobas have some heroes/champs that are similar with the heroes/champs of older mobas because it makes the game easier for me to play from the start because I'm already familiar with the hero/champ and makes me nostalgic.
Freya isn't true to almost half her lore (beauty) she needs a remodel ASAP!

Instead of getting Fatalis, I'd get a soul eater, not only would it help in team fights, but she's a type of hybrid, getting lifesteal out of her physical attacks makes use of her passive. It also adds much needed attack speed to her.
She reminds me of Astrid from How to train your dragon.

Technically Freya [or Freyja] isn't a Valkyrie.
Since she's in the game along with Odin, I'm kinda amazed that other main Norse Gods aren't in like Hrist, Brynhilde [you know, ACTUAL Valkyries] or Ratatoskr. Hell, if Mercury is there, Ratatoskr can be there in some way.
Um, but when a valkyrie kills in battle, they get to take half of the souls to their afterlife, and Freyja gets the other half...

There's a ton of Valkyries that are known to be warriors like Brynhildr [who was also a Shieldmaiden], Sigrún and Reginleif.

Can I just say that as a massive LoL fan I think this is a very innovative and interesting Moba with lots of potential, which i play a little of and look forward to getting properly good at.

If you check polynomicon's rank 3 passive, after a skill, all basic attacks are increased by +100% every 5 seconds after an ability is cast which compliments freya because most of her skills are basic attack buffers, also the atk speed gain from fatalis to put in more hits during that 5second window from polynomicon passive... there are no shit items, you just gotta know when and how to use them...

Ares complete the set of Greek Pantheons a week ago. Norse, Greek, and Egyptian all have enough Gods to have a full group.
Artemis shoots magical arrows, and she is a Physical character.
Sobek uses a huge axe, ares and freya uses huge swords, guan yu uses a something like a Niganata, ymir uses a huge hammer and they are magical ~~

Incorrect, they were the chooser of the slain (which is what Valkyrie translates into.) They weren't blood thirsty, they just chose who lived and who died in battle...They apparently didn't do a ton of fighting themselves.

She did. After a warrior died, she chose who deserved to go to Valhalla or something. She helped to create the Valkyries I think
but that is like not so commonly known. I have a book on mythology and I looked freya up and it was not mentioned, like at all. So I wouldn't think its one of her major things she is known for
+89taklung i'm not sure she's leader of the valkyries (i think smite just based it loosely) but she does chose warriors that die bravely since she and his brother Frey are the Vanir ruler of Vanaheim. In Norse mythology there's two tribes of gods: Aesir and Vanir. Half of the "honorable" dead (people that bravely died) go to Valhalla while other half goes to Folkvanger in Vanaheim, which is the valhalla counterpart of the Vanir.

And yes, she created valkiries and has half of valhalla. And her cape meant to transfrom her into the falcon. And I like that no one mentioned Freyr, her brother who are god warrior actually.

It's mostly spelled "Freyja" but most norse gods have different ways of spelling it. For example I've met other pagans who spell Odin as "Wodin" or "Odhin"

Renekton from lol for instance is called Sobek in smite and the abilities are almost the same aswell

Have you ever heard of a red magician? A spellsword? A cursed knight? They might not be from the same game but they all wield melee weapons yet use magic and im more than happy with the concept.
Well I think they are saying her skill set is somewhat similar to Kayle's with auto attack enhancers and being immune to attacks for a short period.

She is actually the norse god of fertility, but also of war, death, gold, etc. The norse didnt rele have 1 single thing a god ruled over, just general ideas of what they were related to
I dont even know why people complain about it but finding so many similarities between gods and lol champions actually makes me want to try this game
It might just be me, but it seems like she is gonna suffer early game a bit. I think she'll be pretty good once you get a build going and have your ult up.
I'm just glad she has a CC that doesn't allow people to just utter decimate you while you're CCed.
There's only so much creativity and viable abilities people can come up with for games like this. Play the game, you'll notice even those abilities that are "similar" are completely different in this game.
I miss the item suggestions. Granted, I also miss building Freya like AD Machine Gun. :P
Agreed. The only thing that can be copied is skillsets, but sometimes some skills just make sense. Loki -> Shaco is a little bit too obvious tho.

Freya, Ares, and Hades are probably a diabolical combination for wiping out the enemy team.
Oh man, Christ would be the best support ever. He'd have an ability that heals an ally and removes all debuffs and stuff.
And he'd have Skeleton Kings ultimate from DoTA.
I believe when they say that, they are talking about the mechanics.
So Freya is Kayle... Kayle's old passive = Build Magic Damage, get Attack Damage. Skill 1+2 = Kayle's Righteous Fury, turning melee attacks into ranged with bonus magic damage. Pulse on it's own is similar to Kayle's Reckoning. Freya's ultimate, like Kayle gives her brief invincibility, but Freya gets some nice burst damage to go with it. The only major difference between the two is that Kayle has a Heal/Speed Buff, while Freya has a disable.
I love Kayle though, so I'll probably play Freya.
She does not look too strong a lone , but i can see some lane combos that will be very strong

They are identical, but LoL did the same thing with DotA. I played all three and honestly I like LoL most and I've played for a long time. Fiora is similar to Juggernaut, Ashe is pretty similar to Drow Ranger (and Mirana), and Hecarim is pretty similar to Spirit Breaker (and they were released at close dates). Other things are even DotA related (Rylai's, Nashor, PD possibly) I wouldn't consider them a copy but I definitely see that they were inspired by them in some way. Not hating just saying

Freya can't clear enemy waves instantly so it's very likely that her polynomicon's hit will be wasted on creeps + without cooldown reduction items, her cooldowns are relatively long.

Just going to say she is Norse so a "midnight winter storm" is so deadly it was s natural defence that enemies could not invade in the winter or at night but the houses were easily kept warm
And also you forgot she cries gold and has a frost blade so cold that iron armor makes you weaker to it
and starcraft came from the discovery of space and the idea of space travel and other intelligent life forms
The last 2 gods, Ares and Thor are LARGELY considered UP.
DotA (the a is big, not the t) revolutionized the idea. You can hardly see any, if any, copying there. Unlike the "idea taking" by Riot.

You are aware that every build is dependent on the specific match you are in, so almost every item in the game can be warranted at some point. And as for you statement about fatalis, it's arguably a core item for dps physical damage gods. So...you're wrong
You just buy more then one. They stack. If you mean two different potions, then you just buy one and then another, as long as you have 2 slots you can get 2 of any potion, not sure how many you can carry of each though.
They mean that they are coping the skills, not the gods themselves.

Well you can't complain. All games take ideas from one another. LoL gets a lot (including the whole MOBA thing) from Dota 1. (and yes Im aware 1 of the producer of dota works/worked for LoL) So they take ideas from them, Dota will soon probably take a few idea from LoL or HoN's new ones. As long as they don't take a lot of ideas from one another I find it fine. Especially since each have a different feel to em

Don't you mean to all just basic attacks, since any stun, fear, slow and other other crowd control ability still applies?
If a god uses a ability before Freya flies, Freya will be come hacked and her ulti will drop. This can happen by Hades ultimate, Bastets cats/slow, and Ares chaingrab. It has been proven with video recording. Her ultimate needs fixing. But I doubt Hi-Rez gives a shit. They seemed to care more about popping out broken gods and 'tournaments'

Why does everyone do so much comparing of LoL DotA and Smite!?
They're the same genre, so of course they're similar.
Like how all FPS are similar, all RPGs are similar. How Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Borderlands are the exact same game with different looks. (Sans borderland's Co-Op)
Same genre means they're guaranteed to be very similar, the only difference is content and style, and Smite has done an amazing job separating itself conceptually from the others.
