Palms look gorgeous! Very mild winter so far, only about an inch total of snow here in Boise. Steady temps in the 40s and 50s here. Getting some colder temps next week with highs in the 30s and lows in the low 20s and teens. But weather remaining gorgeous here. Hoping all the palms pull through well!
Great video and palms are looking great! We have a forecast of consecutive nights at -9 F next week in Ohio. I’m going to really have to protect my windmill palm and sabal minor. 😢
Hey Allen- we're in the nashville area and we've got a bunch of 3-4' windmills and some small sables. Currently have them wrapped in mini incandescent christmas lights and frost cloth over that, is there anything else we should do to prepare for these upcoming single-digit temps next week? I'm worried because the lights don't seem to give off very much heat.. thanks for all the great videos, we still have much to learn!
100 mini INCANDESCENT lights with frost cloth wrapped in mummy style with fronds tied up should do the trick on a 3-4 foot palm. During this rain event you could put a garbage bag over top to keep water out just don't leave it past Thursday. If you are worried get a wireless thermometer to stick in there www.walmart.com/ip/AcuRite-Wireless-Digital-Thermometer/45810751?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1102&adsRedirect=true ua-cam.com/video/5vP4ecPWkGE/v-deo.html
I have palms wrapped in Dallas, can I leave them wrapped all winter until march or late February without them rotting or having issues with no sun? It's not heavy burlap but light cloth material. I've wrapped a lot because they are all small palms and some are not fully hardy here until they're bigger. (Filiferas, Butia, Filibustas, Sago, Date Palm)
It can be tricky wrapping them in a way they will stay dry when beginning. Rain getting in there and staying wet could cause a little issue. No sun is not much of a problem if temps are cool, lets say days generally under 70F. Without pictures I can only recommend how I would suggest beginners wrap for longer term similar to these 2 videos. ua-cam.com/users/shortsaDrn8UM2e0M ua-cam.com/video/iV3d1bg2wa0/v-deo.html
