    How to properly jack up your car
    1.) Remove oil drain bolt
    2.) Forcefully shift without using the clutch
    3.) Always downshift at too high an RPM
    4.) Take it to a dirt road filled with potholes, preferably an old town road
    5.) Ride until you can't no more
    Your car should now be pretty jacked up

      Jacked up also mainly means getting yelled at or being chewed out in the army.
      Not what you said.

    I'm going to be doing some work on my 86 next week and literally opened UA-cam to find a video on the jack points for these cars. Perfect timing!

    Actually, the jacking point is on the sub frame directly BEHIND the pinch welds and not the pinch welds themselves. Take a look at the scissor jack provided by Subaru. There is a groove cut into it (4:00) so that it does not contact the pinch welds, allowing the vehicle to be lifted by the sub frame jacking point..

    • @KingPeaceus
      @KingPeaceus 5 років тому +3

      Is it still okay to put your jack stands under them?

    • @a.jennings4664
      @a.jennings4664 5 років тому +11

      @@KingPeaceus: You should always use jack stands anytime you work under a raised vehicle. But I wouldn't (and don't) rest the entire weight of the vehicle on the pinch welds. They are not designed to support it. The pinch welds are part of the fender/body not the sub frame. Will the pinch welds support the vehicle? Yes, but you run the risk of damaging them. The weight of the vehicle should rest on the sub frame not the pinch welds.

    Jack stands should not go anywhere near pinch welds. The U shape at the top puts pressure in all the wrong places. Jack stands should be on the frame or under suspension anchor points.

      Zoshy they’ll be worn down if someone does the work themselves since jack stands progressively wear them out. That being said, who says the owner doesn’t own a lift or similar type of device?

    Do people just bend their pinch welds when you put them on jack stands? I milled a slot out of 2x4 to go on either side of the pinch welds.

    • @jonathanstimmell9952
      @jonathanstimmell9952 5 років тому

      I haven't bent them yet and have had it up on jack stands at the pinch welds. Now it will bend the seam if you place the jack stands anywhere besides the pinch weld, don't ask me how i know....>:(

    • @a.jennings4664
      @a.jennings4664 5 років тому +1

      Your's is the correct method for jacking to avoid damage to the pinch welds. Although, you may be at risk of cracking the 2X4s which may present a problem. Rubber jacking pads with a groove cut in them work well.
