Travis Rice Pro at Speed - Is it Stable

  • This is my 5th day on the Lib-Tech Travis Rice Pro, and so far it has exceeded almost all expectations. However I havent done the Ricky Bobby Test and taken it out at high speed. Today the snow is kind of hard packed and a little icy in spots, and the perfect conditions to go for a fast cruise to test out the stability and edges.
    I can't be certain because I haven't been going too fast since I blew out my left knee (ACL/ PCL) a year ago, but the TRP had more instability at speed than on traditional camber sidecut snowboards that I have ridden in the past. There are some other factors that could be interfering but in my tiny brain it makes sense that the magne-traction creates an edge that would be more effected my bumps at higher speed. Please tell me what you guys think in the comments.

    Hey Chris!! I'm from Toronto. Broke my ankle in August... Canceled my trip to BC in February, no snowboarding for me till next winter, keep making vids Chris! all I can do is watch you & snowboardprocamp to stay motivated, working on gaining my strength back so I can ride again next year.

    I've only recently got into snowboarding so don't know that much based on experience but having just bought my first board ever I've done a lot of reading / geeking out- thing might be that if I remember correctly - the TRP has quite a bit of rocker between the bindings? So if you are more used to pure camber could this make it seem a bit more unstable? especially in the uneven terrain? -conditions did look a bit chopped up in the vid - maybe feeling more of the bumps through the board than on a full camber? As a noob ive only ridden flat profile boards and when I pick up speed I can feel every lump and bump in my legs and it doesn't feel smooth!
    I have read some people say that magne-traction can make the board grip too hard when you don't need it to - it seems you either love or hate Magne traction - though I think most love it - but can't say myself having never ridden them. Or have you just been spoilt by all the awesome powder runs??? :D
    Still a cool vid! Your riding looks really good so it could just be getting used to the new board? Like I say I don't know much but just my thoughts.
    As a noob its really inspiring to watch all you guys ride! Boarding a flight in just over 24hrs for my first whistler trip and the stoke meter is well into the Red. Whoop!

    Just took this board out again today. Hadn’t rode it since last year. I rode it along with the GNU Fun Guy to compare C2X vs C3. C2X definitely feels less stable to me. When carving I don’t get the same locked in stability that I get from C3 and I felt myself holding back because of that. I still think it’s a great board but I find it hard to trust it at higher speeds after getting used to being locked into a carve with C3. I would love to hear what you think if you ride it again after getting used to the t finder this season.

      Thanks for info, I totally agree! Definitely feel that instability at higher speeds. No doubt i will get back out on it this year. Definitely not a carving board, but great in that sketchy technical terrain

    Not a true beginner but I'm not an expert. Do you recommend this board?

    Hey Chris what did you mean at the end “should have gotten the mountain twin”. Did you not like it compared to the jones?

    • @ChrisEyres
      @ChrisEyres  4 роки тому

      I said that because the Jones has the anti stick topsheet and my board was covering in snow. I haven't tried the mountain twin myself, but it does look like a beautiful board

    I have this board, and it hauls ass. Pretty stable at on east coast ice at high speeds but its also not intimidating to ride at high speed like some camber boards can be.

    T. Rice Pro or Jones All Mountain Twin. What would you pick? Been riding a Lib Tech Skate Banana the last 10 years and really like it.

    • @ChrisEyres
      @ChrisEyres  2 роки тому

      I haven’t ridden the mountain twin so i can’t honestly say. Both are great quality build for durability, I’ve beaten up my t.rice a fair bit and it looks great. Personally I would lean mountaintwin mostly for wanting to try something new. They are both great boards so there’s no wrong answer. Sorry for late reply, you prob made the purchase already

      Behind used to camber boards I did find it a little squirrely, but after riding it for 50 days now I'm used to it. So not sure how much of that was the board and how much was me stuck in my old ways

      Chris Eyres you can put your footage into the GoPro app and it will tell you exactly how fast you were going.
