    I think it would be good to see you do the larger tree. It shows how we can grow different size trees and use them in our gardens.

      Thanks for your comments! I will definite do so...just waiting for the candle to become needles to give me more design opportunity.
      It is so heavy on the top to make it lopsided...I am seriously considering cut off most of the top to make it a drastic tree...rather than looking like the standard landscaping design. The only consideration is it will probably take five years to look right again.
      OK...I think I will out live 5 more years at my age...Please stay tuned.,

      Happy St. Patrick's Day!
      I was a favorite student of a Catholic Brother who was the headmaster of my high school. I went to pay him in Dublien where he retired.
      Lovely countryside!

    Good afternoon! That large pine tree with the flaky bark is most likely a Mikawa JBP (native to Deer island, off the coast of Japan). I was fortunate enough to get a smaller one from the House of Bonsai in the Anaheim area last October. Can’t wait to see it grow into a beautiful specimen.

    I'm curious how you will deal with a bonsai as large as the one you have, especially root work. Seems like quite a heavy undertaking.

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 9 місяців тому +1

      Do it in place 🙂
      History...the tree nearly died (thus the dead lower branches) growing int he shade of my zen garden for about 10 years. I transplanted into full sun and it came back...then I transplanted into this big pot about 5 years ago. Took two persons. to move the tree...it is impossible to move without taking the tree out of the pot and move them separately.

    Japanese black pine is good material. Yamaguchi's pine is very nice. Do you grow Japanese white pine? I see your Michelia alba in the side of the video. Looks nice. I have 3 in pots and also 2 figos in pots.

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  9 місяців тому +1

      Both Michelia are nice landscaping trees in temperate zone.
      5-needle pines are really nice, but most are grafted. I have one big one in the ground…killed a couple bonsai white pine.

    If you remove the hole candle will it backbut? Or will the branch die?

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 9 місяців тому

      First principle is always with needles below where you cut.. If that is the case, if you cut off the entire candle cluster, it will take a little time to regroup and shoot out.
      When I cur the main candle off and leave the little 'candle" just below, they will shoot in the direction they are pointing at..
