At 70 years old I’m so glad that music such as this is still being done by artist such as Marisa P. She carries on the tradition set by those such as Janis Joplin, Annie Lennox, Joan Baez and many others who unique style lives on in Marisa.
flyingwillounet it's especially cool since she doesn't even really use "high end" or boutique equipment other than maybe a couple of pedals. Goes to show how much one's hands defines their tone
One person's trash is another person's treasure. Hearing the commotion I had to come up stairs and see what all the fuss was about... "what in hell was that beautiful 'noise'!!!" As a middle aged man from New Brunswick nearing my upper turn of 50, you have to endure a lot of different kinds of music as your kids becomes teens; "Shake it off" was one of them. As far as writing goes, Love it or Hate it, "Shake it Off" was a commercial 'master piece', of a song. But I have to say, as an old school punk & metal fan, this little 'Monster', "Marissa Paternoster", has PIZAAZ! When she fires it up, like some 'inspirited', Jon Lydon, she passionately brings the whole joint down on her crowd's head with no apology what so ever. Her cover of that song, "Shake it Off", was either a very smart or lucky choice. While it dripped with sarcasm, it also bathed 'her' in a full chorus of light that I think we all can appreciate. She took that very 'commercial' song, twisted it, balled it up, tossed it under her dusty ol' bed, pulled it back out into the light, opened it, exposed it, put it on & totally owned it! In her beautiful, sloppy, unapologetic way, I'm positive her version of "Shake it Off" left, in it's 'wake', snotty nosed, stuck up teens everywhere in outrage while grabbing the attention of many others, be it kids or adults, Lost or Found, that were lucky enough to stumble upon that 'converted' gem of a 'masterpiece' while they searched for the 'Original', "Shake it Off". Like the Original, you either love it or hate it! Regardless, by 'title' alone, people can/could/have stumbled upon 'her', who otherwise, would have never heard of her. With that song, "Shake it Off", she manages to make one hell of an entrance into their 'tiny' commercial, sheep filled world. One thing is for sure, unless your name is Monsanto, there is no such thing as bad publicity! You watch, people notice stuff like that. It's my belief this 'twisted little treat' will do well no matter what corner she chooses to dwell in, with that said... Hats off to her and her 2 friends. What a fantastic, fun & edgy, motley trio of power! /cheers
I actually like pop, but can't stand Taylor Swift at all and was sick and tired of listening to Shake it Off wherever I went. Her cover is the only reason I think that song is not complete trash.
+Tiko Makunts I just found these guys a few days ago and I thought they were new. Then I looked them up and found that they've been around since 2005. :P
F*ck me. It only gets better with every song im hearing.... I know its 2021 but you guys still young and much more talent ahead. I LOVE SCREAMING EAGLES!!!
@rubber communist EAGLES? {apologies to band} Lay off the catnip dude. Its bad enough you talk to yourself, but commenting on your comment? You need help dude.
I've seen a few videos of their performances, and they are always very powerful, great tone great chemistry, but for heaven's sake, it won't kill any of you guys to crack a smile once.
I AM who I AM... Come on Home Lady's... Enough is Enough... and I am Enough for both of YOU, you and U2... This is my Last proposal... Marry me Both of YOU... We can All be Happy... All can be Family... Listen to the song...
Rock was dispicable in the 70's to 90's with every band seeming to be coked or smacked out and everyone thinking it was cool. These are true artists creating music for the love of it and leaving the drinking and drugging behind. I saw Marissa at a show and after her spectacular performance she went to the bar and got a glass of water. A water! She's cool as a cucumber and just the nicest person there is to talk to!
Dunno. Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote the poem Kubla Khan in 1797 almost certainly with the help of Opium. It is certainly a great poem. It ends with this: A damsel with a dulcimer In a vision once I saw: It was an Abyssinian maid And on her dulcimer she played, Singing of Mount Abora. Could I revive within me Her symphony and song, To such a deep delight ’twould win me, That with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air, That sunny dome! those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.
Yes its a G&L (George & Leo) S-500. It is a development, many would say an improvement, on the Stratocaster that Leo Fender produced after he had sold the Fender company. Some call it the Strat that Leo finally got right. They are still available. Marissa plays little else and has a number of them. This natural wood finish one is actually the guitar she learnt to play on. She has had it since she was a girl. She changed the bridge pickup for a SD hot rail, then decided she didn't like the sound, so plays on the middle pickup most of the time her other S-500s have been left unmodified as a result.
Bought the album as merch at a festival where I happened across these guys. Listened to it 5 times solid on the drive back. Since another 5. It gets better and better. Same with All At Once.

I'm obsessed with this group, especially the front person. That is even a beautiful guitar.😍
one of the best intros ever
She is so amazing if I were 20 years younger I'd be following her to the ends of the Earth.
One person's trash is another person's treasure. Hearing the commotion I had to come up stairs and see what all the fuss was about... "what in hell was that beautiful 'noise'!!!"

She's like 30, what are you, 80?
A little younger than that ....but twas only a light hearted expression of admiration!
She gay dude
Even better than the album.
lovely!
The beginning of this song (starting from around 2:00) reminds me very much of the Grindhouse (Main Titles) from the soundtrack of Planet Terror
I like this sounds good/distinct voice
Perfection live, every time
Found you guys from reddit. I am surprised, you guys are great.

Guitar player is awesome!
Babe, you’re the frontman if the decade. Voice! Licks! Yes. What a cool band.
yep
Ive only ever seen her in this one video have hot rails in any of her guitars. I wonder what made her put it in this one vs the others?
❤
Can't listen too often.
Her Guitar work in this song reminds me of Mick Bolton from UFO. Check out the songs Boogie for George and Prince Kajuku.

What scale is that?
Marissa, haces de los acordes gemas que sangran en hermosos sonidos, nacidos del ensueños de tus dedos.....
Marissa is cool
why she didn't do this thing with the guitar on the studio album?
Guitarist get no respect anymore. This was impressive!
Ely Venkus are you kidding me? that's like what she's known for, bona fide shredder
Has anyone tabbed this? I can't find any online.
Alan Reyes nope and it sucks no one has tryed to tab it out
There's a somewhat accurate tab on ultimate guitar of most of the song. Excludes the opening improv
Marissa, I am ashamed, I am sorry, I just didn't know it ....... "what a band it is !"

the 80s suck ass
Drinking water to make music to drink water to. I don't agree, but respect her choice. Marissa is amazing!

Woolliscroft Woolliscroft im so lucky for this proper answer, cheers man, all the bests
Please won't you, marry me, on Rose Mountain.
Black Sabbath, meets Led Zeppelin, meets Metallica, meets Soundgarden, meet the new millennium...
Meets an utterly useless, asinine, idiotic comment.
...Hey fuck you! What do you know?
You okay there Tony?
...actually I'm not okay. I'm aggravated, frustrated, furious, becoming impatient, and I'm hungry. Where is my axe at?
Lighten up Frances
Why does she have her strap button on the bottom wing instead on top?
Love Lita Ford, but Marissa Paternoster here is in the leagues of fucking Segovia!
waiting for them to break into a comets ov cupid song for some reason.
@
Danzig moans.
That intro sounds like something out of the Halo 2 soundrack
hottest band I've never heard of...well, fuck ME.
OMG it's Natalie Merchant playing guitar like Jeff Beck!
and singing like Grace Slick=125%original!
Makes me think of a cross breed of Nirvana and PJ Harvey. The talent is there. But I couldn't stand listening for an hour to this.
Bought the album as merch at a festival where I happened across these guys. Listened to it 5 times solid on the drive back. Since another 5. It gets better and better. Same with All At Once.
Great music like this is ignored. Crap like Nicki Minaj sells. It's the McDonalds effect. Sad.
