I’ve got the Tan AE-1500. It’s amazing. The huge numbers sold me instantly and I was lucky enough to catch drop day. Small wrists and it still sits so nicely. Inarguably; Casio knows that this budget beater shames the entire G-Shock line on readability alone. I own a compass; I don’t need an altimeter, barometer, or GPS in my watch. I need ~readability~.
So true! Legibility is more important than style!
Exactly, that's why I got myself a W-800h and it's one of my favourite watches.
It even has better water resistance than my DW-5600's
@@PaKePo No it does not.
Black text on white background is better than white on black. I love the big font with non cluttered display of this watch.
Here's a tip, a tempered glass screen protector intended for the 43mm Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic fits this watch perfectly.
Oh my god thanks
thankieee
Cool.. does it hold when wet?
Bro does the screen of this watch breaks easily ?
@@christydaniel4140 The protector is mostly for scratches, watch screens can scratch
I bought one of those because I could not read the numbers on my AE-1000W without glasses anymore, but my mom "stole' it from me lol (she's 71). I will re-order in the sand color. Great review and pics, Jim!
That’s awesome. Your mom is sporting the AE1500!
Why struggling with digital if analog is easier to read?
I have an AE1500 and I absolutely love it. I’m in Fire and Rescue and it’s been well and truly tested and has passed with flying colours. I love the big easy to read display. I alway hoped that Casio would make a G shock version and I thought they had with the new Mudmaster. Unfortunately, I returned the Mudmaster as the display was so much smaller and the contrast was very poor when compared to my AE 1500.
I remember you saying you returned your Mudman. Unfortunately you’re not the only one. Hopefully Casio figures it out. Until then we have the AE1500.
It's only disadvantage is that it doesn't display the time while in stopwatch and countdown mode.
Have it in Khaki. Nothing but great things to say about it. Bought it due to aging eyes and larger numbers to read. It's awesome. $22 what can you say?
i suffered for years running at night with timex ironman watches, the indiglo that goes out, fades eventually. this watch is incredible. ez to read while running....light could be a bit brighter, but still much better than the fading indiglo on smaller numeral timex. price is half that of timex as well. great piece.
I didn't know that about the indiglo! It looks bright in the store! The AE1500 is a Timex killer.
The light on the negative display model of this watch makes it is much easier to read at night
Just saw your channel. Totally agree. Just bought this watch and it’s freaking great. $20 and it’s insane…
It is insane! Enjoy it!
That would be a great ad for Casio if they used your work buddy's watch in an ad to show the abuse that it can take.I was very impressed with it!
I just ordered two of these, one is sitting in the mail slot right now I am told, all the way from Florida with negative display and the other has a regular display.
Thanks for your watch video it was the most real world watch video that I have seen!
Regards from the Great White North! (;
This is one of the all time great watches for being only $22. You can’t buy just one!
Great watch and great review! Got the tan one on sale from Amazon at just $17. It amazes me how Casio puts out consistently reliable watches even at this price point.
A really enjoyable, practical watch review. I like the fact that you test stuff out on the oil field.
It helps massively. I build concrete tanks, lots of bashing it against mesh, and so far my best watch with a big screen is my Duro, with a sapphire mod. Even my Seamaster fell apart at the clasp.
Digi watches, yeah they're cheap and replaceable but there's only so many times you keep buying a Royale or a calculator watch before it's a false economy.
Gshock displays are tougher, but always poor to read.
I now have a GBD, but it's too damn thick, which is a shame because it's party trick is when you tilt your wrist, the backlight comes on which is killer when working into the night.
So anyways, to say, this one you reviewed, with a screen protector, may be the one to try next. Thanks. It's £12 here in the black Friday sale in the UK. Unbelievable value
Hey Jim, the gbd-h2000 and that whole family count down timers are meant to be used for interval training. You can set it up to 60 minutes but you have 5 of those and you can set them to repeat. In maximum it goes up to 24h. It is annoying but it’s not really a countdown timer. If you use it to track intervals or sets in the gym it’s ok. I have gbd-h1000 and it took me a while to figure it out.
I Bought it for my pops and he loves it. He uses it almost nonstop. Helluva watch
top review.... I'll buy it. About readability: I had Mudman 9500... for just a day... the display in not as readable... I give it back to shop. I agree with you. Best Wishes from Italy
Great to hear from Italy! The AE1500 is more readable.
one of the best value Casio "Non GShock" , very good legibility and size.
the 2 gripes i have about it is
1)the plastic screen which easily scratches
2)the overall thickness can be improved as it snags if you ae wearing a jacket
other than those, its an Excellent watch :)
Those gripes are legit. But for $22 you can deal with them.
The AE1500 is a fasntastic watch. I got mine for around 20 USD. I have some higher end G Shocks and lots of other watches but I love wearing the 1500
I have the exact same watch reviewed in the video. I also have similar, more expensive watches. It has become my daily watch and does everything I need it to do. The positive display on this is amazing to my aging eyes. Syncing it with my atomic watch, in one month it was only off by “almost” two seconds.
@@MW-pw9ip It's a beauty!
I recently rediscovered this one, was one of my favorites about two years ago but stopped using it because I needed a snooze alarm to wake up. Of course, haha, this one has a snooze alarm so my other purchases since then were stupid. The snooze alarm does always wake me up because I've always been a light sleeper. I did replace the band with some adapters (made for the 5610u) that fit perfectly to a nylon band because of what you said here, it was gripping my skin so, problem solved. I actually have the negative display version, very easily the easiest to read negative out there! Snooze alarms, readability, comfort/lightweight, countdown timer, stopwatch, & date! not crazy about the world time/second time screen as you could forget what zone it represents, I prefer the ae-1200 for that one, but that is the only real negative imo (oh and the time while in the other modes) thanks for the video!
As far as negative displays go, the AE1500 is one of the best!
I got the GBD200 and i fell in love with the MIP display. Readable on any angle, watch is sturdy and durable. Only drawback is the battery drain. My first Casio bought with my own money was a 50$ AE1200WH. Absolutely beautiful and pretty sturdy, too. I still have it chucked in a box just waiting to replace the battery to keep it alive.
The AE series are imo the best thing Casio has come up, aside from the Gshock. They're decent and very affordable. An AE casio is the best entry point for anyone on a budget that needs a good, reliable watch.
And it's only $22! That's the best part!
@@JimKinkade no, that's actually the WORST part lol
you see a nice little Casio for $22 and you think to yourself "alright, $22 sounds like a deal" and then, months later, you see another good $20-something watch and you say "another good deal". Next thing you know, you have six really good $22 deals.
Seen it happen to a lot of dudes. Good, cheap Casio watches are basically affordable cloak-and-daggers.
The GBD200 is certainly an awesome looking digital and has a very good MIP display. Unfortunately the UI is piss poor, as a matter of fact one of the worst UI's I have ever seen. That is truly a shame, with the simple but functional UI of a DW5600 it could have become one of the best squares ever...
@@LV-42617slow af, and with successor model this seem to have not been fixed, also there’s an MIP screen flickering problem when it flickers in between screen refresh, which i discovered myself when was already outside of Amazon return window (did not use watch immediately after buying), and I read on the forums Casio doesn’t consider this a warranty repair issue, which is a no-no for me to buy any more MIP from Casio. Also seen on forums people reporting their MIPs to be good initially, then developing the issue after some time
@@nelsonhernandez3259 Nelson, NOT sure I see the problem. I now own ALL variants of the AE1500WH for all the reasons above. They are FREAKIN' AMAZING!!! Imagine that watch with the MIP display.
If you like the AE1500WH, take a look at the GD-010. It's the G-Shock version of the AE1500WH. Watch out for the orange one though as it has a negative display. I had to send mine BACK because of the illegibility of it. Positive display models are AMAZING as well. Imagine THIS watch with the MIP display especially for those of us with a 7.75"+ wrist.
Sorry, I just passed out...
I have a small wrist and got this one not knowing it has the extra long strap lol, still looks cool though
For 22 bucks with that large positive display and its very clearly visible unlike negative displays
I'm down with that getting two for work so my Gshock square can rest a bit
Put the hard miles on the beater Watch.
I have the Tan & Green versions . Great watches & very accurate.
They are great. Amazing value.
I think this watch will be useful for me during driving (my car clock is broken) or riding especially with those big numbers.
I agree, it's high time Casio increased their display sizes.... There is the gd350 though, that's quite big
I’ve had my eye on that one. May have to try it out.
The W-736H has the same digits size as the GD-350 but with an even better contrast and less clutter.
Thanks for the video. Yes, the AE1500 looks great, love the big numerals and that it is so easy to read. I have an old Timex Marathon which has nice large numerals and easy to read. I currently rotate between my Casio MRW-200H which is great and highly legible during the day and my G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1 which is a fantastic watch, if I only had one it would be that one. You might want to consider the G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1, but the numerals aren't as big as the AE1500.
I am thinking about buying a 9400.
Yes, I think you would like it. It looks like the most features for the lowest price of the Master of G series with ABC, solar and atomic time, the battery lasts a long time. The buttons are big and easy to press and the menu is so good and has a sunrise and sunset feature, very useful.
There is a GX-56 with a positive display which would be better. Regarding your camera could you use mains power rather than rely on the battery? The red tally light is a bit distracting. Maybe you could switch it off in your cameras menu system.
I had the camera plugged in when the power cut out, which isn’t supposed to happen. The other problem is the battery depletes itself even when the camera is off. It’s the Sony ZV-1F, by the way.
You mean a watch with ridiculous dimensions outside and even more ridiculous digits size inside? Thanks but no thanks.
@@LV-42617Exactly. The GX-56 digits are half the size of the AE-1500. Way better visibility with the AE-1500.
The GX56 needs larger numbers whether positive or negative display.
Found out the same small bands on Sunnto watches, and being a Casio fan as I couldn't fit it over my waterproofs I went back to the store Swapped it for a Jack Wolfskin Jacket and Casio Pathfinder watch 😮😮but later like a few years of collecting Casio watch I bought this watch and as I need a watch nowadays for my bad sight I noticed the G-lide shock watch which has the same size digits but e-ink which has a negative display but great viewing even at dusk 😮😮 so I sold the AE1500 not a mark on it 😉😉 someone from FB had a bargin👍👍 got a CASIO Lineage Japanese import which is for the Japanese Market so chuffed to bits 😍
Points points made, I’ve been wondering about this watch, thanks for the vid.
You have a good point. Look how easy it would be to use sapphire crystal and great Lume and maybe a mechanical movements in the Casio mdv duros!! If Pagani and other companies can build cheap mechanical watches with sapphire Casio definitely could.
I’ve heard of some guys modding their Casio with sapphire.
Love my AE 1500 WH.
Excellent inexpensive beater.
Wow great video! I sometimes wonder if Casio purposely does not make the perfect watch so that we will keep buying them!
Well it worked on me. I have a bunch of them now!
The huge numbers are great, totally agree one of the best
The best indeed, and has all the functions that you need and want! I wish they make one with MB6 and Solar!
Yes, MB6 and solar would be so nice.
Jim, GREAT video! I have all of the 6 variations of the AE1500WH.
I could NOT agree more with you on this AMAZING watch.
If you like G-Shock also like I do, check out the GD-010. This looks like the G-Shock version of the AE-1500WH. $99 - $115 based on your color choice.
Beware of the orange one though. It has a negative display and is VERY hard to read unless it is at just the right angle which is annoying! Check it out and let me know.
Interesting is to see , of you cincronice them, how much this one will deviate..my only one G shock, will gain 3,5 seconds a month, if i deactivate the MB6.
If you want an easy to read watch that looks good I recommend the W-736H, I’ve had it for a few months now and wear it more than my GWM-5610U! Because it’s easier to read and fits better on my wrist. Also can’t beat the 10 year battery life and 100M Water Resistance.
I'll check that one out.
Right about the W-736H !
how we making this 24 hours time not am /pm . first watch on this video thank you
The numbers on mine flicker a bit from time to time, idk if it's the angle, the battery or a defective screen. Or is it normal?
Mine does not, maybe it is what you mentioned with the battery, but perhaps I think you may have water in there from pressing the buttons underwater, hope you figure it out!
4:14 GD-010 has a big display, though probably not as big as this one. And it has 10-year battery as well.
P.S. GD-010 was available starting from August 2024.
Yes, that model wasn't available when I recorded this.
I just ordered a Black one and a Tan bother were 17.99 each black Friday sale
That sounds like a good deal!
Great watch. I wish they could figure out how to have an alarm volume that approximates that of an Ironman. I can sit in a quiet room and barely hear mine.
For some reason they don't like loud alarms over there at Casio.
In my opinion vibration alarms are the way to go and they should be mandatory on any digital watch nowadays. No wonder why the W-736H is my favorite Casio, along with the Timex Command Shock and the Garmin Instinct.
Heck I bought two of those. Amazon has them both side by side so you can choose.(displays) free Amazon ad.
The GAD-010 is the G-Shock version of this watch but cost $99.
question. its 100m water resistant. Can we push any button under water ? or not ? will it be damaged after ?
You can push the buttons under water!
21:12 you are right about the pins. That's why I like most watches with integrated bracelets or straps. You don't have to worry about loosing them. That's a good point my friend 👌🏻
I’ve lost A LOT of watches from the pins popping off. 😆
@@JimKinkade 🤐😂
Thank you very much for your video.
i have a g-shock, the g101 (2327) for eons haha, 2000-1 or so, so im looking for a new watch, saw this one on amazon and watching your video, i think it could work as a gift. thnks!
If Casio offered some beaters with saphire lenses they would be so good.
People then complain they shatter too easily “for a Casio”
Excellent Video Jim!
The comments & this review is convincing. I was & still not happy about the backlight, it reminds me of cheap watches i used to see at night market. I have to accept I'm going to get old & my glasses isn't stopping the inevitable. visibility & simplicity are important than getting a first casio chronograph or a first smart watch that you're going to regret later on or afraid getting scratched here there.
I have a GAW-100b G Shock. I think that is about the same size!
All the best.👍🏾😂🇬🇧
I had that watch. The band did fit my large wrist well. And it is about as big a display as you're going to get. But I didn't like that it doesn't display the time while the stopwatch was running. And as big as the display is I still couldn't read it at night without my glasses. I can read an analog watch at night, but not a digital. So, I wanted a World time watch for a trip last summer and got the round version of the Casio Royale. It cost $19. I gave this watch away.
You can’t beat an analog watch at night with good lume!
@@JimKinkade A Timex with indiglo is hard to beat! 😊
AE 1500 deserves to be more expensive than it currently is !
It was my yesterday’s daily wear and today’s is G5600 UE. I feel like I’m struggling to read time on G !
You can get used to those big numbers on the AE1500!
It's already far too expensive.
@@LV-42617 $20 is far too expensive?
I never understood negative display watch ever, this one has big numbers and positive display along with LED backlight excellent
There is a negative LCD version
But yeah I don't like it either
One word: style
wow, those numbers on the ae1500 destroy the visibility of the mudman you showed. it's like an entry budget protrek. i plan on getting one of these from walmart after all the praise found on youtube.
It's worth it. Even if you find a better watch it's good to have this one as a back up.
I got this Casio watch just recently I got this watch few other things that where my dad's. It's nice watch .good quality watch. And all I want was his watch . Rip dad. I miss u and thanku for this watch I got grey one. I will promise you dad I will keep this watch ticking till it don't work no more and change battery once dies .
Sorry to hear about your dad. Hang on to the watch and think of him!
Bro, try the twin sensor for 40 bucks, 200m water resistant, comoass, thermometer and big dsiplay like this one but slightly smaller
Ok. If it’s on Amazon I’ll get it.
might be worth getting a watch with a sapphire glass if you want better scratch resistance, it's almost as hard as diamond, so doesnt really get scratched.
I was thinking about it, but the G-Shocks with sapphire are like $800.
@@JimKinkade yeah, established brands tend to be a bit stingy with sapphire and they often only include it with their more expensive watches. it's a bit annoying
nowadays for this ae1500 it has hard screen protactor with a cheap price that we can easily buy in online market.
NICE INFO.
A NICE WATCH. I THINK I'LL BUY IT.
It's such a good watch for a low price!
Did anyone get the one with the negative display? What's your opinion after some time using it?
Yes. I've had the AE-1500WH-8BVEF for 3 years. It doesn't serve as a battle watch in my case. I mostly use it as an alarm clock for waking up in the morning, and for timing things in the home, like cooking and stuff. It gets a lot of use. I think the negative display has pretty good visibility due to the the large digits, and I think it also helps to hide the "hot spots" created by the LED backlight. Perfect display for checking the time when I wake up in the dark.
Very readable! My everyday.
There are so many amazing aspects about Casio watches but also so many infuriating details! Negative displays are quite simply a joke if you want a watch to actually tell you the time with. In low lighting levels as encountered in many homes it can be a real struggle. It's crazy! I have many Casio watches even a couple with negative display but I always buy ones with a positive display if one is available. Even the MIP display, whilst a good deal better than the more usual negative LED displays, it is still no match for positive displays. I too have an AE1500 and love it - makes me smile every time I look at it and ponder it's ridiculous dimensions!
When I look at my watch, I want to be able to read it. Is that too much to ask, Casio?!
Yes, The AE1500 is their most legible offering.
I disagree on considering MIP worse than positive LCDs, as the MIP displays have perfect viewing angles while the LCDs do not.
Especially the classic style LCDs significantly fade out, but even the good modern ones do.
Straight on, their contrast might be better, but I'm personally trained on reading white-on-black text better so that doesn't work for me.
A pity you never picked up a Timex 2TP219. At 42 mm, its a very readable analog watch. Very traditional. 😊
I’ll check it out, but the AE1500 has an extended wrist band. The Timex may not fit me.
@@JimKinkade You can always swap out the supplied Timex strap if its too small. It has standard 20 mm lugs.
@@NormanF62 true! And that’s a good thing about Timex compared to Casio, who uses proprietary lug system.
What's your wrist size?
Is the black display on this model readable in direct sunlight?
Are you talking about the negative display version?
@@JimKinkade yess

@@JimKinkade which colour you reckon? The off-white is cool so think i need a positive display to go with it 😜
Casio makes pretty good displays! Negative displays are just hard to read in general
I agree, except for the MIP displays.
Yes, but the G-Shocks aren’t as clear as the regular Casios. I think it may be because of the extra layers of plastic.
@@JimKinkade ahh that would make sense
funny how the modules in cheap casios are better than the g shocks which are supposedly their premium line
Yea! That's what I'm saying!
If they can refine this design with an stn display, solar, mutiband 6 atomic timekeeping and a more comfortable/durable carbon fiber strap would be awesome

It's a similar cheaper watch just like denzel Washington in the eqlizer movies
