Jesus is Lord! Hi, guys. I’m Jim Kinkade. Check out my G-Shock watch reviews.
the RANGEMAN solar charging is BETTER.
More testing is needed, but the solar charging SEEMS better than the GBD-H2000. Not huge, but noticable.

It's the time of the year with the most sunlight. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like the Rangeman is getting more boost from the sun than the GBD-H2000 did last year.
That's just my impression. We'll need to quantitatively test that. So stay tuned.

Can you use the RANGEMAN without the APP?
the price for these watches is about 120 US from sakura watches. So I think its priced about right without the triple sensor. Also I've taken all my protreks hunting, fishing and camping/hiking in northern Canada. I've never had any of them break or fail on me. Its got tough solar and the only difference I can really see over the Gshock is the 100m vs 200m wr. I don't go diving but Ive taken the watches swimming a boat tubing and never had an issue. A protrek might not be as "tough" as a Gshock but it wears thinner and lighter then one. Something I very much appreciate when its +34C in northern Manitoba and Im sweating my balls off getting eatn by mosquitos and horseflies. 😂😂 Lastly I cant recommend sakura watches enough. The shipping can be a little expensive but they have the best "retail" prices Ive ever seen on japanesse watches and lets face it the Japanesse save some of the best versions of the watches for the jdm market. so Skua is a great place to shop. Just remember when making claims to casio US that the watch was a gift. I swear I don't know where they bought it from. 😂😂
I got another G shock in the mail the other day, a used GW9300, the JDM version of the G9300. Old watch now, but has solar and cool carbon fiber band and band stay. Almost mint condition too, packaged so well and an origami crane on top, hah. Just another watch for the collection really as my daily is a GG B100. I'd like a new solar g shock (eg. GWG2000) as much as the next guy, but damn some are getting on in price.
I have 9 inch wrists and the only protrek strap the never fit me at all was on a prg-3000. If your wrist is under 9 inches you should not have any problems plus all the modern protreks in the past 3-4 years use quick swap straps with "regular" watch lugs so you'll not need adapters to put on after market straps.
Jim, you might have lost your pen. Well, what can I say: I lost my innosence...long ago! ;) Have a beautiful weekend with your lovely family, which makes you a rich man! God bless! Chris
Not trying to be an ass but the ae-1500 actually rips off the prw-31 and even older protrecks with the round digital layout. The jdm versions prw-30/31 are very good watches I have two and I think I'm going to look into getting a combi bracelet for it. I did that for my prw-61 with the green face and its so much more comfortable to wear. Not that the silicon strap is in anyway bad, I just have large wrists. 😂😂 I'm also very tempted to get the titanium version of the prw-30 as well. Any protrek in titanium is beyond fantastic.
To be honest Jim, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a similar module and battery.
Re. the illegible “negative” displays, I can only assume people keep buying them, so Casio keeps making them. Thanks for the review.
What’s your thoughts on long term durability?
You're right. I was gonna go for a new Rolex but this graph applies
Bull shit man...
Top 3 introduction is lit 😅
Beautiful beautiful beautiful..blessings 😊
Just found your channel, looking for my first G shock.
@@timshull59 Thanks for checking in! Do you have one in mind? I think you might like the GBM-2100, which is #2 on this list. It comes in green and black as well as the blue.
If this was 1) solar powered, and 2) had very good lume on the dials and hands (C1 or C3) I would snatch one up so fast.
Nothing can beat gbd2000❤❤❤
Also hair pulling much worse on the 9400 rangeman, compared to this which is much more comfortable.
You inspired me! I got the green one, i really love it. Everyone complains that its hard to read. I disagree its MUCH easier than the green old rangeman. Also presumably the battery will last even longer with the dark display just my theory.
When they readiness pen, they mean READINESS pen. Of course it will work, it was designed for this. You never know when you might get stuck in your washing machine & could have to write your last will and testament on the fly.
Absolute genius analysis here.
Compass and some other features are sad looking to say it’s there newest model I’ll stick to my pathfinder ,solar atomic
Well one of them is wrong with the altimeter there’s a big difference in the reading
i see these comments making a fiar criticism about its lack of solar. The garmin instinct watch does the same job WITH solar. its only downside is its lack if aesthetic that a g shock has
The JDM version seems to have a better (brighter) negative display, may have to look into it, I like the size.
Looks like GBD screen is bigger than Rangeman ?
Casio G-Shock must of found a way to cut costs without putting full GPS map on the GBDH1000, GBDH200, and GPRH1000 like on the GPRB1000 that costs $1,590. That watch came out in 2018.
This is a crazy designed watch. Solar watches are supposed to last 10 or 20 years, but a watches rubber gaskets can last less time. If you are suppose to wear the GDBH2000 daily. How long with it last? The watch is also made with biomass plastic that nobody knows the longevity about it. The Casio G-Shocks with ISO ratings are suppose to be only serviced by Casio. The $1,592 Rangeman GPR-B1000 and Rangeman GPRH1000 are not ISO rated.
Cell phone rechargeable batteries are recommended to be only recharged to 90% and once a month let the battery die to prolong the battery life. How is this possible with a Casio G-Shock? Also, the owners manual says the solar only chages to 4 bars.
What about the solar? I read that after 500 USB charges the solar battery only charges to 80%.
Casio, Gshock, Protrek, all they do is tell the time. All their watches with altimeters and barometers need constant attention. This means having a proper topo map or a Garmin as well. Which then begs the question, why buy one of Casio's sub-brands? Look at the features and capabilities of the Instinct 2X and Fenix line. Casio again, just tells the time and has god awful color schemes.
Yea I need to calibrate the barometer a lot. I understand the Instinct has better functionality than the Casio. But when you DO want a watch that just tells time the Casios are the way to go.
I grew up with Uno. It was a huge part of my childhood. I'm definitely getting that watch.
@@darrylwoodbury I’m waiting for the RISK collaboration.
Interesting to see that your sunrise/sunset are 1 hour ahead of the natural solar time. DST is such a farce. I hope the US wakes up eventually and gets rid of it.
Yes. DST is stupid.
Love the outro!! God bless you!
You too, brother!
Solar watches have such quiet alarms...so they don't run down the battery....pointless having the alarm function.
Not all. Many of my solar Casios are quite loud.
I never noticed that. We’ll need to test that.
I've got two personally...a 15yr old PRW 2000T and a fairly new GMW B5000 ...both quiet. I dug around on "watch u seek" and it looks a fairly known issue 🤷♂️
The MTGM900DA-8 has two bars on the strap that you need two screwdrivers to screw it instead of four screws. My Frogman GWF-1000-1JF had a screw loose too. I think some Casio G-Shocks have small screw holes on the watch.
Are you kidding? The Frogman had a loose screw?!
@@JimKinkade Yes, my GWF-1000-LJF Frogman had one losoe screw and the case was stripped. If the GDBH2000 has one bar instead of two screws the the GDBH2000 is a stronger watch than the Rangenan GPRH1000.
Hey Jim, I Just saw you have today the whole day sunshine and 38 grad Celsius. Nice opportunity to charge your king AND your protrek 👌🏻
Good idea! Let’s bring them back to life!
Jim thanks again. Ive been following your videos. I think you dont connect your watch to your phone via Bluetooth? If that is the case is it possible that the service center updated your firmware to the latest one and perhaps the latest firmware has updated the solar charging algorithm?
Maybe. But I updated the GBD-H2000 to the most recent software too.
Great video 💯 How are you liking that new rangeman. Can you see the display good indoors?
The display is great. Even inside. I like the GBD-H2000 better though.
The biggest problem of every watch with smart features is charging. That's why I chose to buy GBD-200 instead of my smart watch. Even though I wasn't using every feature of my smart watch, I was tired of charging it every 1 week or 10 days. Many people buy smart watches and experience charging problems even if they do not use its features properly. I'm tired of constantly charging it. I finally got rid of this problem.
Well sadly you won't want to be changing out the battery either. It's very costly. Especially if you have to have the watch pressure tested.
Good point. You can really stretch out the time between charges on the GBD-H2000.
How to extend 1 min of content to 10 mins😅
Well Mr. Jim, you should consider buying some cheap watch box in order to avoid a solar watches discharging because that's not so good for a battery. And also, you should consider leaving your job and starting to work as a Casio tester, from your home 😀😀😀 I don't think any Casio engineer is able to test the watches better than you. I don't know how much solar watches I got, but I've never experienced even the ''medium'' level, just because watches are in the boxes.
my GBD-H2000 didnt like to hear that ! :)
You should also do a gps test on both watches side by side
Great idea!
Great video Jim. Can you run your solar assist watches to dead and then put them in power save mode, then place in the sunlight to see which watches get back to functional, then get to 50%, then to 100%? Variable are plenty in that each module may have different energy requirements to run. Also, solar cell density on the watches may be different causing different recharge rates. The wispy clouds you’re referring to are cirrus clouds, ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. Those clouds typically indicate precipitation will happen in 24-48 hours. I’d love to do a collaboration video with you. @realidealgear. I think we’d have a grand time talking Casios and our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Take care, Tim
Aw yea! The Tim and Jim collab! Let’s do it!
After 500times charge ,remain at lest 80%battery
You charged yours 500 times?
That’s the general rule on how many charge cycles a smart watch can take. But, if you do the math that comes out to lasting for about 27 years. In my case, I have a Garmin I charge every 3 weeks. That comes out to about 18 charge cycles per year. Even if I bump it up to 20 charges per year it will still last 25 years with the “500 charges rule.” If I double the charges to 40 per year, that’s still 12.5 years of usage. The technology is likely to be obsolete by that point. And I’ll probably still be wearing a mechanical diver watch I bought a decade ago anyway… Good video on the Casios.
I purchased a yellow and black GA 900 after seeing the Casio UK test video on a construction site, I immediately fell in love with it. I've had g digital shocks but now I'm really starting to appreciate the hands, and ga 900 does not disappoint, simple and reliable. I recommend it Jim, see the video if you can!
I’ll check it out!
If you pay several hundred dollars for a watch, “solar assist” shouldn’t be in the equation, IMO. I found this out with my Garmin Instinct solar.
True! The Casio engineers need to figure it out!

A Casio godzilla watch, that's something I would buy.
@@danielcalvo9063 you know citizen made a Godzilla watch last year. It was better than the one in the meme.
Wish they made this in a tanto like previous twitch xl
I didn’t know there was a tanto version of the Twitch II xl.
Is there a setting to make the display brighter?
No. Just the backlight.
