Love the 390 adv content! Just to add for other viewers; Originally the 390 has a 15 tooth sprocket in the front, 45 in the back, giving you a ratio of 3. Either you change out the front sprocket for a 14 tooth, giving you a ratio of 3.21, or you change out the rear sprocket for a 48, giving you a ratio of 3.2. Similar results sort of, cost of rear mod is higher.
Hey! - How are you? I really like your content, since I´m riding a 390 Adv myself. Quick question, which windscreen are you using? I noticed you have a new one on, compared to your other uploads...
Hey there, this is the Ali express rally windshield for the KTM 390. I don’t recommend it. It’s very cheaply made and probably won’t last long. It actually cracked on install. If you can pick up the Rade Garage rally windshield, that would be a better option. It looks the same but it’s built by a legit company. But it’s also pretty expensive 😭.
Hey, Two Wheeled, it’s some off-brand single-leg jack I bought here in Japan. Just search Google for a “single-leg motorcycle jack/stand”, I’m sure something will pop up. Though I only recommend using this in a pinch. A proper stand that lifts both sides of the bike is obvious much more stable/safer.
I saw your Video about changing the Sproket (14) and the One Oliver Neumeyer the back (46). My question is of this constelation fits with the original Chain with 118 single pieces of the chain?
Hi Matt, what chain did you change to that will fit with the 14 tooth sprocket? Mine is quite loose after the fitting so I imagine in need 116 instead of 118?
Hej! Great video! I did exactly the same thing a while ago and are super happy with the result...have a quick question, when u measure the distance to the chain from the swingarm my KTM dealer told me u should measure from the inside of the swingarm. They said KTM always have much slacker chain then other brands.
Yes, that’s right, I didn’t know this until after I made this video. I’d say the chain is actually a bit tighter than most, but that could just be the way Japanese like their chains?
I haven’t so far. Sometimes the bike won’t start at first but a few cranks and she turns over. If you are having more trouble than this, it could one of several things: check that your battery voltage is good (on the tft display), all of your fluids are topped off and fresh, check your air filter. A bad spark plug can cause it as well.
Great video. As always. Thank you so much. Quick question. Could you please share the link of where you got the new crash bar pouches? They look so much better than the ones I have. 😊
Thanks a lot! Sure no problem. Just go to Ali express and search for the following: rhino walk motorcycle tool bag. Should be the first one in the search results. I had to buy some extra straps to fit it to the bars. I'm sure you can figure it out 👍.

@@advinjapan I was just thinking that might be handy on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere... I have a lift table with proper jacks when working at home in the shop ;-)
Great video, thanks for going into detail on this process! The chain adjustment info was super useful (could almost be its own video), I watched for info on the 14 tooth sprocket change, but only because my chain has a lot of slack and I think I will be replacing chain + sprockets soon. I actually have the same model as you, 2021, so excellent to see this. Could I ask, what effects have you found with the 14 tooth sprocket since installing? Are you happy with how it adjusts gearing? Pretty sure I'll do the same (and probably buying from the same company in Italy).
Hey thanks Ross. I’ve got a video on my channel (ua-cam.com/video/Tr1phgfpVzg/v-deo.html) detailing my impressions. But I’ve had even more time to ride so I’ll give you some thoughts here. Although the 390 is a pretty rackety engine to begin with, I feel like my drive train has even gotten louder with the 14 tooth. Gearing is fine and it still performs just fine on the highway, though pretty heavy vibrations on the pegs compared to before. If you can manage to pick up a larger rear sprocket, I’d recommend that because you’ll get better results in terms of torque and response and perhaps less of what I mentioned above. Especially if you’re gonna replace the chain, might as well throw a few extra bucks in and get a rear sprocket instead. You’ll work the engine less as well (less revs per minute overall). Good luck friend!
@@advinjapan thanks for this info, it's super helpful! Yeah I know what you mean about the engine being pretty rackety, I'm definitely getting that from the drive train currently, and hoping upgrading the chain will help. Sounds like the rear sprocket is the way to go, I wasn't aware of that advantage. I also watched your follow up video and it was really good. Thanks again, and keep making the great content! It's fascinating to see Japanese culture through your videos, too.
Noticed you put the locking plate back on flipped from the way it was originally. I did the same when changing my front sprocket, assumed it should be the flat part against the sprocket. I had taken a photo of how it was oriented before taking it apart but didn’t look at it first and it was the other way around. Can’t see any functional reason why it would matter but curious to why ktm installs it that way from factory.
I was wondering if it's worth instead of changing the sprocket, to use something like fuelX lite so you can have a more responsive engine on low end without compromising end speed. Have you considered it?
This is totally an option I’m considering as well. Sprocket (front) is much cheaper and quicker to install which is why I went that route first. That said, while I do notice a huge improvement in low end power and torque, the throttle is still sluggish, which the fuelx will fix right away. If you have a warranty on your bike just be sure to check with the dealer before installing the fuelx. Otherwise…get er’ done!
I have heard of people cutting a block to easily measure your chain tension without having to read a tape measure. I have to know what that crash bar bag is. I'm looking for one that will fit.
That’s a good idea Ron, quick and easy. My tool roll you’re referring to I purchased from Ali express. It’s from a company called Rhinowalk and it’s dirt cheap. I picked up some extra straps to attach it to the crash bars. I’ll do a video on it later and what I’ve got in there. a.aliexpress.com/_mMsfpYW

The stock chain will work just fine with this, which is 118.

Which crashbar bag are you using in this video @ADVinJapan
Hey Kaizer, I’ve got the Rhinowalk tool roll here:

Thankssss from Turkey .
Thanks for dropping by!

Hi Matt, your tool kit under the seat should have all the tools necessary for adjusting your chain.
Not sure if this is addressed to me. That’s right, everything is in there for the road. For at home repairs I like to use my own tools 👍.
