It's not how many notes you play but how the notes fit in the song. I have played drums all my life and played many places. And in most of those places people don't give a shit about flash just how good the band sounds!
My drum teacher used to say you can achieve speed through relaxation. Meaning the harder you try to play fast the more you will tense up and the slower you end up playing. Only by relaxing will you achieve real speed. He would have loved Eric Moore!
Same as with a golf swing... if you try to go fast.. it just slows you down. If you focus on technique and being smooth and in the pocket.. thats when the speed Ramps up.
The best thing about this lesson is Eric's overall attitude. His playing is beastly, but if you're a good drummer with a bad attitude then that negates everything. Eric is super personable, which makes him that much better
Mike Caputo I cosign that statement 💯 percent, I am taking up drumming just as a hobby, and this Guy has me so motivated, interested, and comfortable being new to this great form of Artistic expression!!
Probably one of the best and inspiring lessons I have ever seen. It is not just the impressive level of playing, but Eric is just a joy to look at and to listen to.
His personality is what makes so much difference, he is just all passion and joy for drumming, so much positive energy. PS: You guys at drumeo have been doing such a great job with your channel, a big thumb up! Thanks!
I’ve been playing drums since I was 11 years old. I’m now 50, and am ready to play again. I had to put down my gift for the last 10 years because of raising my children. This video has even further inspired me to get great at my instrument again, even at my age! Thank you Eric for inspiring me to get back on the horse again. Your playing is phenomenal!
Congratulations! You’re going to fall in love with playing drums again! I had to leave the kit for several years and came back stronger than ever. I also picked up the guitar, which is a whole new world of awesome! “The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time. Love the space between the notes!” -Billy Hart, drummer/drumming innovator-
Dude, I've recently done the same. I stopped playing for 10 years and at least for me it was insane how hard it is to relearn. I was so bad at first. If you stick to it it'll all come back over time but man it's rough at first. Though tbf I only had 10 years experience before I stopped so maybe you'll have an easier time since you had a lot more experience than me before stopping but it was shocking to me how bad I was at so many simple things on the drums after not playing for so long Oddly I could still do RL RL Tom and double bass fills super easily still but so much other stuff, ugh, so rough. I'm just glad I'm now close to catching up with my old self
I love how much he loves other drummers. Also he is a great example of being able to learn something from anyone and how he aims to continue to grow even though he is one of the greats. It is inspiring to me!

This is a clear example of God puting talent on the right hands! Eric is so driven, so motivated, so gifted and so humble! I could watch this guy talking/playing all day! Lucky those who work/live with this guy everyday!
ye he is gifted.... right now because he worked hart to get to this point nobody has an instant super talent so that he can play everything, even he had to work hard to get to this point he is now, but ye youre right thx to him we all can make improvements. He just knows how to motivate people with his chill and always positiv art
I love how Eric addresses the camera/audience like you're just hanging out and being personal. Friendly, receptive, very giving and open to sharing his amazing talents in such a humble way. Then he'll melt your face off with the biggest smile you ever saw!!
and I just bought an e-kit too! 🤬😤🤨,, but, I’m 65 years seasoned, and I’m gonna be patient and study these great videos,, and when I’m 130, yep! Watch Out!,, I ain’t got time ta play!!!!!
His humbleness almost surpasses his playing and that's admirable. He makes everything so relatable whether his talking to a newbie or a seasoned drummer. Respect!
I started guitar at a very young age, stopped playing when I was 13 I think, I don't know why but when I was 15 I started drums, it was a hole new experience and I loved it, as if it was drifting lol, you use everything and its crazy I'm now 17 and I know this is what I'm gonna do for the rest of my life Eric Moore I'm a big fan
Ever since he started his weight loss journey, his enthusiasm for drums and life itself has skyrocketed. It is truly infectious in the best way possible, thanks Eric!
Man, Eric Moore has some serious energy and enthusiasm! Not to mention a great sense of humor. The dude just loves drums and he exudes such a deep passion for it. I'm so glad I watched this and thanks for having such an inspirational and talented drummer on Drumeo!
Thanks for reminding us that behind every drummer lies a human being. Our love and kindness for other people should be as tight as our grooves. Great lesson!
Thank you so much for posting this! I played drums when I played drums in high school and stopped at 20. I am now 44 and just started again, but was afraid that I was too old to learn. You specifically addressed this topic and made me feel confident that it's never too late to start! Thank you so much for re-inspiring me!!!
+AirDrummers "literally"? like, exactly? You've been counting the days minutes and seconds and wrote the comment at LITERALLY 3 years on the mark??? DAMN! thats impressive
I just love his passion and the way he describes playing. Instead of technicalities and sticking, he speaks of it from a more artistic stand point. Major Props!
Man this guy is sooooooo good! I love his joy for drumming, its so damn contagious! After watching this I felt so inspired and ready to put some hard work into getting comfortable soloing and filling around the kit. I freakin loved the part where Eric explained how technique is used to make you feel more comfortable, not hamstring you! Thanks Eric for re-inspiring me and God bless :)
Wonderful to hear Eric talking about drums being a language that every person who plays the drums can speak, as beginners and as professionals :-) That is solidarity - there is hope in the world!!!!
I've been following/being inspired by Eric Moore since 2008... I'm SO GLAD you got him to be at Drumeo! Great lesson, fun to watch and so inspiring. It's great being reminded that single strokes, paradiddles and inverted paradiddles can sound THAT amazing when practiced over and over till brought to high speeds. My favorite part of this lesson is that, despite Eric's unbelievable ability to play the way he plays and blow us away every second, he always brings the 'human' side and humbles himself. From minute 57:27 - 58:40 he basically reminds us how no matter where we've reached in our drumming journey or how much we may have accomplished, we have to always remain teachable. That really spoke to me. Thanks Drumeo and Eric for another great lesson! Regards from a Venezuelan living in South Africa.
Thanks for shouting out older drummers getting back to something they've loved. ERIC, you are an inspiration. I am working on making my kick foot sweet and working on complete separation of limbs. It's starting to happen and I am blowing my own mind. Timing is key. The metronome is so important. Thank you guys. Much love to Drumeo.
damn, when he said that he didn't know anything about drums but loved the instrument, it encourages me a lot. heck i never had anyone teach me anything. when I was little I found a pair of drumsticks left at school and just brought it home. listened songs and just went random smashing in the air. eventually I taught myself really amazing combos and beats using my laps as practice pads (i can't even feel a pain anymore after years of just plying on my laps). Note that i was still in 4th grade, I never played a drum set in my life until last year that I became a college student. and that was only once, it just happened that we hanged out on a studio. we decided to jam out, me wanting to play the drums so much and considerig it was my first time, I paid for the whole hour. we played highway to hell and I nailed it soo good. my years playing on my laps paid off.
I love this guy so much. Everyone talking about moelar technique, full strokes, down strokes.....give me a break. If it works it works. I love how this guy understands that. Such a fun guy too. Total rockstar.
I had to crack-up at Dave's reaction. I was reacting the exact same way! Laughing and smiling through that whole first song and solo and then put my hands up on my head exactly the same way when Eric was done! :D Eric, that was just incredible! Enjoyed it a ton. You came across as a truly great person and drummer. Thoroughly enjoyed your gift and learning from it. Keep up the great work, young man!
Eric Moore is such an phenomenal drummer and person. I love the inverted para-diddles combo. I'm definitely going to incorporate that into my playing. Thanks! Keep up the great work health wise also. You inspire me and sure many others to get our health back into shape also.
Wow his speed is mental. A lot of these modern "gospel" style drummers blow my mind for their creativity with the linear concept. It's inspiring and also disheartening all at the same time!
I just discovered Eric for myself about a week ago, and I already find myself trying so many new things on the drums. Even though I often don't succeed with what I am trying it feels so good to have all this new inspiration.
I loved Eric's answer to "Who do you admire as a drummer yourself"! I was surprised and impressed that he would not think of this or that chop monster or drumming great, but actually mentions drummers that are able to manage life and all that (at about the 53min mark). I know what he's talking about, and I think it's a topic that doesn't get much attention generally on the internet, in videos, lessons or interviews. So thank you Eric for that!
I keep coming back to this vid in particular, out of all of them. Eric is so amped! His character and attitude is 100% stoked, and he's got great advice on how to just keep making things happen on the drums, whatever level you're at. Love it. Keep up the good work with all these great drummers, Drumeo!
Man!!!! Every time I watch that intro I can't get over the ridiculousness of his chops. Yes I know ridiculousness probably isn't a word, but DANG! How else do you describe this absolute SLAUGHTER of chops, speed, accuracy and tasteful licks?!
+chanyoungchik Yeah, Iain's right, it's the Wrigley standard 5s with slightly added synthetic gum base for more pressure resistance per square millimeter. Eric mentions in one of his interviews that he tried the Trident Chambers, but they didn't provide enough bounce for the amount of pressure his jaws were putting on them. Kept his chewing more behind the beat than he preferred.
+ZaiMedia Thanks for the reply. I think I've seen Aaron spears chew a Wrigley's 5 in 5/4 in a Vic Firth video, and I was amazed by his metronomic jaw action. In my opinion, Eric chews more pocket this video, while Aaron uses the swivel jaw motion being a little more chop based. I guess it all comes down to personal preference and musical taste.
When I watch "Eric"play he put tears in my eyes. I can watch Eric play drums over and over again and never get bored. He is my "A,1 drummer" Period, Because I play drums myself. Eric is the bomb. I like the way he thinks, his attitude on music. He my mellow man.
The more I watch this the more I realize its like Micheal Jordon trying to explain how to dunk from the free throw line. Micheal Jordon "You just start slow and build up.... start by first dunking from right under the rim" Me "I can't dunk."
Holy sh**t. The joy, the enthusiasm, the friendliness and the excitement. Even though the topic and overall video is really not to my taste he still manages to inspire.
I agree. And they do it to all drummers they have on drumeo. They don't even pay attention to the constructive criticism either from others that hear the same obvious problems!
Eric Moore is my man..he is floorless on the drum..woow.. i just love the intro..Anytime he mounts the drums, thats where the fun begins..Eric Moore is my mentor..(This is Danny from Ghana).
Absolutely fantastic lesson! Favorite part: Eric's demonstration of the paradiddles around 32:30. The way he explains everything makes you realize that, with time and practice, you can do this too.
Eric is such an inspiring drummer and all around guy!!!He believes in God And worships him glorifying him in all he does!!!Eric your enthusiasm is contagious bro!!!Keep doing your thing sir,I wish you all the success you could possibly have you definitely deserve it my friend!!!!
He played more notes in this video than I've ever played in my entire life!
I can't say I agree man ._. he shreds but geez I've been playing speed metal for a long time lol
Eric Shaw ok and?
Ha ha very true
Nailed it hahahaha
It's not how many notes you play but how the notes fit in the song. I have played drums all my life and played many places. And in most of those places people don't give a shit about flash just how good the band sounds!
My drum teacher used to say you can achieve speed through relaxation. Meaning the harder you try to play fast the more you will tense up and the slower you end up playing. Only by relaxing will you achieve real speed. He would have loved Eric Moore!
That’s why I love push/pull and heel toe
Same as with a golf swing... if you try to go fast.. it just slows you down. If you focus on technique and being smooth and in the pocket.. thats when the speed Ramps up.

Holy crapjacks!! Half of Eric Moore is missing! I hardly recognized the brutha. PS. Whoever tuned that kit should run for president.
Rob Brown hey it's you! And hey- you have quite the weight loss story as well! :)
Rob Brown hell yesssss. That set sound sexy as hell. Exspecialy that first tom
Yea, and whomever lost him in the mix on that first song should be deported.
Aquarian heads help a lot!
Amen brother!!
It's safe to say.... This guy is on a whole different level.

agree.
He been like this since his teens
Serious props for bringing the positivity Eric! Good vibes all day from Team Drumeo.✌️

This is awesome! Can't wait for you to get back on it!
How has your practicing been going these past four years?
I love how much he loves other drummers. Also he is a great example of being able to learn something from anyone and how he aims to continue to grow even though he is one of the greats. It is inspiring to me!
Me too!
This had to be one of the Top 3 Drumeo Lessons. Inspirational & refreshing.

What would be the other two for you? I would like to watch them.
+sammy sabbah Sonny Emory, Tony Royster Jr, Benny Greb, Jason Bittner.

+Drumeo I'm sure this has been asked a lot, but are you guys thinking of getting Matt Halpern up there?
Eric Moore is the most mind blowing drummer I've ever seen! Makes me want to practice ten times more than I do!
I could watch Eric Moore play drums all day. This is definitely one of my favorite lessons on this channel.
This is a clear example of God puting talent on the right hands! Eric is so driven, so motivated, so gifted and so humble! I could watch this guy talking/playing all day! Lucky those who work/live with this guy everyday!

He just knows how to motivate people with his chill and always positiv art
"god" had nothing to do with that, it's just hard work
Ask Eric himself, he'll admit it's God that gave him his amazing talent.
God doesn´t exist, he is like this because of hymself
That's your opinion. But perhaps you should first research, before stating something like this...
This is one of the best sounding drum kits I've ever heard
Logan Dacosta those are jareds drums.
any tips ti get this tone ? I'm pretty sure it's head and tuning
Toms are singing!!!!
I love how Eric addresses the camera/audience like you're just hanging out and being personal. Friendly, receptive, very giving and open to sharing his amazing talents in such a humble way. Then he'll melt your face off with the biggest smile you ever saw!!
He makes me want to quit and get better all at the same time haha. Too good
Watching Eric Moore makes me want to play even more
TY EVERETTE You mean he makes you want to play even Moore*?

Seriously, can never get enough of that play along with Anthony Burn's track.
I love when he was talking about how it's not about the sticking and the part about technique (we have to find our own technique) so good!
Eric Moore - You are one of my top 3 drummers ever. love your style and your speed. You are one of the drummers that helped me get started. Amazing
i love his energy and attitude. humble and willing to share and not stuck up
One of the finest, most musical drummers ever, with a joyous heart and gratefulness that comes from knowing the Lord. Anointed in every context!

The drum solo in the end... I still can't believe my eyes and ears... This is one of the best drummers I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them!
The heart and the love Eric expresses inspires i.e. breathes life into the beats.
This is the best thing I have seen in my entire life. Hard working, dedication and humility is the key to succes in life.

They don't even pay attention to the constructive criticism either from others that hear the same obvious problems!

Absolutely fantastic lesson! Favorite part: Eric's demonstration of the paradiddles around 32:30. The way he explains everything makes you realize that, with time and practice, you can do this too.
