    That pattern spinning is hypnotizing. But this video is great, I am so tired of warped plates

    This is a great way to make plates! If I have a positioning stick to check the diameter of the bottom, I can even make them so that they stack neatly in my kitchen cupboard. Thank you!!! Also, you are showing important steps all the way - especially compressing the edge of the piece. I wasn't aware of that properly, but have seen now how important it is, having chipped so many edges of my pieces through use in the kitchen and dishwasher.

    Great tutorial. I had a chat with a local furniture upholsterer after this and he managed to look me out a great foam slab for the pressing. However, can you tell me the size and where you bought your roller. I cannot seem to find anything that looks that large here in the UK.

  • @jlhimmelmann

    Would like to know how he glazes the plate, particularly what he does to bottom so it will not stick during firing.

  • @sarahlefton
    @sarahlefton 6 років тому

    How do you handle glazing the bottom? I worry about plates looking bad when you can’t glaze the bottom.

    If you use a slab roller should you still use the board to compress the slab?

  • @theresahadley5308
    @theresahadley5308 7 років тому

    Is there any reason that you might not use a slab that was rolled on a slab roller if you have one?

    Thank you so much for sharing. I have a simple question : How do you remove the plate you have just made without puting it out of shape ?

    • @davezad
      @davezad 10 місяців тому +1

      I know this was years ago, but in case anyone else is wondering. Notice how Hsin has set the slab down on a tempered masonite bat. When the clay gets to leather hard stage it will release automatically. If you were to try to wire off the form it would curl up on itself, resembling a very large Pringles potato chip.

    does anyone know how much clay is needed to make a plate that size?

    • @hsinchuen
      @hsinchuen  Рік тому +1

      I’d say 6 Lb. Depends on what thickness is your intention. A little extra doesn’t hurt. You can always trim the excess clay off.
