I'm so glad you started with the announcement!!! I had no idea you were in the Bay Area too!!! I look forward to seeing your work in person!
Amazing! I've struggled with plates and this makes so much more sense. Thank you.
謝謝林老師!!
我很喜歡陶
在您的影片裡看到很多方法製作 無私的傳遞 您真的好棒 謝謝您的用心~~
Such great commentary, very helpful. He's a great teacher.
That green glaze looks nice
That pattern spinning is hypnotizing. But this video is great, I am so tired of warped plates
This is a great way to make plates! If I have a positioning stick to check the diameter of the bottom, I can even make them so that they stack neatly in my kitchen cupboard. Thank you!!! Also, you are showing important steps all the way - especially compressing the edge of the piece. I wasn't aware of that properly, but have seen now how important it is, having chipped so many edges of my pieces through use in the kitchen and dishwasher.
This is a really thorough video. So many good tips I never would have thought of. Thank you for making this video. Will definitely make it soon.
You are amazing ,kind and generous... wish you were doing a workshop this year!!!
Thank you so much for this video, and especially the use of the sponge to release tension. I will be trying this and hopefully will have less warping !
You are a great teacher! Thank you for sharing! 祝聖誕、新年快樂!
That's amazing! I'm definitely trying this at my wheel throwing class :)
Altijd aangenaam om naar te kijken, hij is mijn favoriet!
Thank you sir... I will definitely make many of these beautiful plates. This was really really helpful 🙏🙏🙏
your videos have been so helpful I live in the big island a few miles from lava flow I really have no other way but internet to improve my knowledge. I made beautiful porcelain tea pots with chattering and the spouts don't drip a drop I've got orders for two THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generous time
This is fantastic! THANK YOU for sharing!

I would love to see your demo and your work in person but I am too far. Good luck!
Thank you for this video very interesting.
👏 Well done, sir. 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you so much for this :D ! May I ask how much clay you started off with and what the approximate dimension your this plate was? Again ... thank you for sharing your techniques with all of us... trying to work on a trip to the Bay Area!
Ver y, very nivel and simple, wonderfull work
Thanks, these are beautiful and easy. Do you glaze the bottom of the plates?
What do you recommend as the best way to dry these to minimize warp?
Merci beaucoup
Your videos até great!! I lov It! What fabric is that piece you use on top of the plate?
Great tutorial. I had a chat with a local furniture upholsterer after this and he managed to look me out a great foam slab for the pressing. However, can you tell me the size and where you bought your roller. I cannot seem to find anything that looks that large here in the UK.
Would like to know how he glazes the plate, particularly what he does to bottom so it will not stick during firing.
How do you handle glazing the bottom? I worry about plates looking bad when you can’t glaze the bottom.
Interesting channel ...
If you use a slab roller should you still use the board to compress the slab?
Is there any reason that you might not use a slab that was rolled on a slab roller if you have one?
Can you advise what you would do if you wanted a foot on a plate constructed this way?
Hi! The reverse side of the plates is not glazed?
I see that you go to aardvark. What kind of clay do you use?
Thank you so much for sharing. I have a simple question : How do you remove the plate you have just made without puting it out of shape ?
I know this was years ago, but in case anyone else is wondering. Notice how Hsin has set the slab down on a tempered masonite bat. When the clay gets to leather hard stage it will release automatically. If you were to try to wire off the form it would curl up on itself, resembling a very large Pringles potato chip.
I live in Bay Area. Where do you teach classes?
Perfect demonstration of making a plate from a slab, What I would really like to know is where do you get such a nice big rolling pin?
Search for Professional solid maple rolling pin
So sad!! I wish I lived in the Bay area!
No you don’t. -born and raised Bay Area resident
👍
Hello Mr Lin, where can I get a large sponge like yours?
dahmin I have the same question too, can’t find it anywhere online

Thank you !
wow women love you man your comment section makes me jealous
does anyone know how much clay is needed to make a plate that size?
I’d say 6 Lb. Depends on what thickness is your intention. A little extra doesn’t hurt. You can always trim the excess clay off.
@@hsinchuen Thank you! I also appreciate you sharing your technique for compressing the clay slabs. I've not seen it before!
What kind of clay?
High fire porcelain.
OK at 2× playback speed.
