Thanks for the later idea. My ceramics professor would criticize the rim idea (I think) because of the stress on the area where the disk is bent without being able to compress the bend from both sides. But hey! You’re on UA-cam!
I never thought of using a laser but it looks great. Thanks for sharing. I'm new to the world of pottery so I'm still learning what everything is called so I can get it someday. Is it a regular laser pointer? What is the non-electronic tool that helps like the laser does?
I have had 1 plate get an S crack, so overall very successful with avoiding that. I tend to leave the plate a little thicker and trim it down with this method. Maybe as thick as half an inch.
6" plate I use 1lb 4oz-1lb 6oz 7-8" I use 1lb 8oz -2lb 8-10" 2lb-2lb 8oz 12-14" 3-4lbs 14" + I use larger than 4lbs. There's a full table in our pocketbook: smile.amazon.com/Pottery-Studio-Pocketbook-All-One/dp/B09M4R7DPX/ref=sr_1_1?
This is a great idea for people who don't want to put their hands on the clay. Nasty stuff! Why don't you get a jigger and a jolly, then you'll hardly have to touch the clay at all!
Good one
Thanks for the visit

That is a good point. I did have a plate recently crack along that joint. It does take some practice, but it's been very reliable.
Nice demo!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great idea 👍
Thank you! 😊

Glad it was helpful!
Do you have a problem with s-cracks using this technique? Also how thick do you make the plate if there will be a foot?

Where did you get the laser light?
I got it online, but you can also get it at any hardware store.
How much clay do you use per plate?
6" plate I use 1lb 4oz-1lb 6oz
7-8" I use 1lb 8oz -2lb
8-10" 2lb-2lb 8oz
12-14" 3-4lbs
14" + I use larger than 4lbs.

What size pvc pipe do you use?
I used 1.5 inch pvc but you could go up to 2 inches and it would still work just as well.
@@TwoGuysThrowingPots thank you!
