VIDEO-If your Harley Davidson is equipped with a factory installed alarm then you really need to immediately change your security PIN code. Harley puts a standard factory preset PIN code and it is usually 31313. Yup, I could actually sit on your Harley Davidson, start it, and ride off without the key fob present. But don't worry, I would never do that to a fellow biker. However, there are thieves that know this and the simple standard PIN code Harley has set, hoping the owner has not changed it. Don't be that guy.
If you forget your key fob or drive away without it you may be stuck somewhere if you shut your motor off. Unless you know how to override your Harley Davidson security system by a sequence of things you can to enter your security PIN code, which includes ignition switches, signal switches, and Run/Off switches. Ultimately, this will allow you to start your Harley Davidson without the key fob present and ride on! If you use the fork lock then you are really screwed and there is no way around that other than to get the key and unlock them.
You need to be within about 5 feet of your bike with the key fob to get the bike started. So, say your key fob is on the work bench or key hook in your garage near your Harley. You start your beloved Harley and ride off into the sunset. You stop at your favorite watering hole completely unaware you do not have your key fob. You pick up a hot chick and she jumps on the back of your Harley. Ooooops, you look like a fool and you can't start or turn on your Harley. Don't worry, you can save yourself.
That's right, you watched this tutorial video and you set up a unique PIN code last week. Now a few flicks of some switches in a sequence and you enter your security PIN code. Bam, you fire up your Harley and ride on with the chick and she never knows. I won't finish the story and I'll let your imagination do it instead.
In this free tutorial video we show you how to change/set the factory security PIN code to your own. Then we show you how to enter your PIN code to get your bike started without a key fob present.
Further, we show you how to get your bike into transport mode in case you ever have to tow or transport your bike on a trailer. If you don't put it in transport mode then the alarm activated by motion detection can discharge the battery, as the signals will keep activating over and over. Transport mode allows the vehicle to be picked up and moved in an armed state, however, any attempt to start the engine when the fob is not within range will trigger the alarm.
We have found that there are different procedures for pre 2014 Harley models and 2014 and above models. Of course we have you covered for either in this video and all the procedures for both are listed below. Just bookmark this page in case you need to refer to it.

This is a great video. One thing it’s missing, and my owners manual is missing it too, on my bike, after you do the ignition on-off-on-off-on you have to wait until the little red key light goes out before pressing the turn signals.

Good video, the only thing I noticed was that you mentioned Harley sets all security system PINs to 31313. That is not true. The bikes do not come from the factory with the security set up. We set them up at the dealership during PDI (pre delivery inspection) and each dealership sets the PIN to whatever they want during the set up. We use a generic number at my dealership and then when the bike is sold we set it to whatever the customer wants before they take the bike home. When the bikes come off the delivery truck there is no PIN assigned to the bike.

Just a FYI, recently purchased a 08 RK and to reset the pin was 3 on, 2 LB and 1 RB. And the factory pin was 11111.
What if you don't have an ignition switch and only have an on-off switch on a 2014 road King CVO? For some reason my code wont come up?

Just tried it on my 2016 Street Glide..."IT WORKED"... The instructions in the book don't show you this method... I was beating myself on the head yesterday trying to figure it out, but I found this video, tried it and now I have a new pin installed. Thank you very much sir.😀

So I hung my leathers up once I got home, realized I needed some junk at the store and took off for a quick 5 minute trip. Take a wild guess what was in my coat in my garage and what I didn't have to start my bike again, my key fob!! I had watched your videos 2 days ago detailing oil changes and basic upkeep, you came through again with a quick google search. Turns out the previous owner of my switchback had left or reset the security PIN to default. Your video saved my ass!! If you are ever in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, drop me a line and the beers are on me!! You Rock!!

I've tried everything g in this arena: this sites method, Lawabidingbikers website/youtube videos and the Harley MOM. NOTHING FRIGGIN WORKS! ALL I GET IS THE FRIGGIN SIREN WAILING. KEY FOB? 35 FEET AWAY BEHIND 3 SEPARATE DOORS. Nothing allows me to start my bike without the key FOB in my hand.
Incorrect information Harley doesn’t set the security PIN. The TSSM/BCM are blank from the factory and each dealership enter the security PIN that they use. Rest of the information is correct. 31313 is just an example Harley used in there manual
Getting ready to try it on my sister's husband's 2002 Electra glide. Who loses key, key fob all in one night. Bikes been sitting a little over a month now lol. Let's see if we can help the guy out. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you for the video ahead of time. I believe it's gonna work....
My 2020 pin was 11111
No such thing as a pin #. I checked with the Federal F.B.I., the U.S.M.C. corps, and the C.I A. agency.
THIS DOES NOT WORK!
Tried this over and over and over on a 2015 Road Glide Special and all it does is ask me for the PIN, it never takes me to the current PIN. Haven't rode my bike for over a year cuz of this bullshit...
None of this works on my 2002 Road King SE FLHRSEI. I did the three turns of the ignition dial, three left signal, one right signal... turn signals flash, but the ODO mileage remains in the speedo window. I took the fob in the house a good distance from the bike and the bike still started when I turned on the ignition dial, run button to ON and pushed the starter button. The bike has a fob with a button in the middle that push and hold turns on the alarm system. Push three times to disarm. Any ideas... I live in the Mojave Desert, just outside of Death Valley. Temps here are deadly if a bike won't start, somebody dies.
Key fob batteries changed 3 times. 2015 Road Glide with 2670 miles The bike has been a PITA since last summer with random security sets and subsequent flashing for an exorbitant amount of time. NO DIAG CODES. The black box must be bad. Why no codes? No idea. Everything works, all lights, battery new etc. There are issue(s) with black box electronics on these bikes. The dealer came out the last time I took it in due to the fact that the bike went off on security flashing etc, would not start. Fuel pump good. NO solenoid and security alarm continues to pop up no longer interittently but hard on. 50 amp main fuse required to turn security off. Big mess. Security alarm stuck on permanently at this time. This issue started rearing its ugly head after a stop in loose sand where the bike went down lightly on the crash bar. There must be some type of bank angle sensor problem which is an integral part of the black box electronics......ECM/BCM etc.
I have 01 e glide. When I bought it we jumped it. It was idling and died now start switch doesn't work. I can push relay and bang fires right up. I have both fobs I turn alarm off still won't do anything. HELP HELP. Thanks
This for Harley models Pre 2014, in case you missed it, after 2014 I believe you use the Kill switch instead of the ignition key switch. Also if you are the only owner of the bike, usually the last 5 of the Vin is your code, replace any zeros with a 1
My FLSTC 2013 built 03/13 I had to use the 2014 and newer settings to get the pass code settings to work. Little weird, mine must of got the new set up.
Didn’t work for me..Bike stored for several months, had to replace battery…now can’t get the pin reset. Tried this, didn’t work for me. Help please.

Hi, I need your help. I bought my HD Sportster 3rd owner, 2 years ago. The last owner did not know the code for the fob/bike. I do have the fob, lol, I always carry spare batteries, and replace them yearly. I would like to set the code so if needed I would have it. Any suggestions, short of taking it to a dealer?

I wonder why most all Harley instructional vids, call the switch , on the handlebar, an ignition switch, when it seems, it is usually referred to, as a " kill switch"?
Does not help with a 2009 Dyna Street Bob.
They don't have the console 'on' switch.
I tried turning the key in the barrel on, off, on, off, on then the same indicator sequence but it didn't work.
Alarm was working loud but volume has faded down to no sound now only leaving the lights flashing now & a bike that won't start.

I need your help, I taking my bike to two different dealerships and they don’t know what’s wrong with it. It start up I can write it for about 5 miles or less. I could be off of it for two hours, come back, and the bike won’t start. So what I have to do is put the bike in neutral use my left hand to press the button to start. Then use my right and To Turn throttle. For the bike to start, once it start it red up real high and then rare. When I get to a light or stop sign, I have to hit the acceleration keep giving the gas so it won’t stop. Can you please help me I have a 2014 Trike. I have digital gauges on my bike, I have dual exhaust put on my bike. And I’m being told that they could be the problem, I am not a mechanic. Yet I know my bike that is not a problem, please help me Biker in distress.
This doesn't work on my 03 EG. The guide in the owners manual doesn't work either. The fob works (the audible doesn't), the light flashes, and it won't start if it's armed. But any attempt to change alarm sensitivity, auto arm, or set a pin doesn't . However, the reset after battery swap worked to shut of the security light while riding.
this didn't work for my 2008 XL883 ? I really need it to work I don't wanta get ripped off by the Harley dealership
I talked to 3 separate people at a HD dealership about changing fob pin . All 3 told me I need to bring my bike in and have it hooked up to a computer to change pin number. This at Ocala fl. Then I called dealership in Daytona and was told I could do it myself following x amount of steps. Like the ones shown here. I changed pin no problem. What was up here I wondered.
Hello I love the video. My issue is that I bought a 2005 dyna super glide from someone and I can't get the the security system activated. It came with 2 keys and 1 fob but I am not getting the security system.

Well it’s a really good video but on my 2010 glide I was able to change my pin and perform everything that you demonstrated it will not start. Luckily I never leave without the key fob.
What good does it do to change the pin, if it shows you the pin number, before you change it? Someone could go to the change sequence and it gives you the code.
Michael O'Hara I guess keep your fob separate from your keys, but make sure to lock your forks. This way if your fob dies or you lose it you can still unlock your forks and enter your pin. (But I see what you mean. I thought the same)
@@gabec9647 You have to have the FOB to display/change the PIN. Without the FOB, you can enter the PIN, but you can't see it first...so you have to know the code to enter it.
Just a suggestion..my 22 street bob only has an on off switch no ignition switch. Maybe address that sequence of steps. Thanks

Where must be the FOB to reset the pin?

So anyone can just hop on the bike and change the pin? I got a 06 never got a fob or pin info- having fun with security issues year later , turned bike ignition on other day and hazards flashed couple times, immediately knew I was about to have some fun
Wonder why they have a Harley makes buttons with no indentation so you can't colorful them later. Every bike I've ever owned the color has rubbed off
Well have problem getting the numbers to come up on screen. I've seen 3 different videos but, the bike won't allow me to change anything. Numbers won't even show up on screen

Wait, to start 2014 and above you enter the code 'and push the right'... what is that?
I'm surprised that owners were not notified to change their PIN code upon purchase of their new Harley. My dealer Barb's Harley-Davidson didn't let me leave the dealership without informing me, showing me the operation by demonstrating and helping me put in my new code number which I made up.

same here.... battery in the transporder is empnty and i cannot start.. good that i have a second one. i did change the battery but still no start and always "enter pin" command... any ideas?

I have a 2016 RGS my key stem ignition is broken it’s not on the bike . How do I change the factory pin , it on keyless with my fob . So all videos show u have to turn ignition to on , but I don’t have it , how do u do it

You have an excellent video. I need some clarity on an issue. To perform work on the bike, I remove the ground or the master fuse. But this is seen as tampering by the security system. Do I use the "no fob" procedure to perform work on the bike? 2012 Road Glide
We do the same, but once we connect the battery we don't get this warning.

Can anyone tell me why the little red key keeps flashing on my 09 Road king, when the ignition is off, and what I have to do to turn it off? Is this a serious problem?
Do you have an alarm? If so, it means that every thing is working fine. It should go off when you get the key fob next to the bike.

I have 2010 wide glide did the sequece nothing came up
I had a 2015 1200 custom and the pin was 12345 and I had a friend that had a 2015 FLHXS and his was also 12345 I told him about this and he did not believe me. He about crapped his pants when I was able to start his bike. This was back in February I am big on reading manuals I like to know all I can about what I have. I purchased a 2015 FLHXS in September and the pin code was 12345 so I suspect the factory or dealer has changed the default code.
Thank you! Even though I wrote it down step by step, the instuctions were so very clear and not distracting like other video tutorials, I got the proceedure in my head now. Exact video I was looking for. And thanks for clarifying Pre- 2014. My bike is 2009 and I previosly wrote down wrong instructions from another video that did not clarify this.

Only thing...if a bandit decides to heist your ride, can't he just go to the change code mode and enter a new PIN, then go to the override mode and enter that new PIN and ride your bike off into the sunset? Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks for all you do for us.

Man my bike stayed on the side of the road for a day and has been on a trailer for a week. In the middle of getting out of a bad marriage my soon to be ex wife took my fob while leaving and now can't get the pin don't know it. I asked for help from harley and they weren't much help but say $800.00 plus tax. Now it's my only transportation rain or snow. Someone please help. Don't let her win. She already vandalized my bike once now she don't want me to ride it cause I love my bike more than her.

I'm confused slightly, pre 14 code change, couldn't this mean I could get on anyone's bike and just change whatever code they have set and ride away?? Maybe I missed something. Does the fob have to be close to change code? Cause that would make more sense.

Just to let you know its a little different for a 2014 Heritage Classic. You do have to have the fob with you.

Thank you so much! Luckily my Key fob Batteries for my bike died when I was at home, not on the road
Of course I kept getting enter pin.
After replacing Batteries I was able to start my HOG.
The owner's Manual was a little confusing to me.
I was able to follow your instructions and after a few tries I was able to change the PIN! I had a TBI so sometimes written instructions are hard for me to follow.

Also purchased Boombox instructions from you. They really helped me learn how to use the Boombox system. I had to watch it several times. But I was able to learn it instead or remaining confused by the HD instructions.
The HD dealer gave me literally Zero useful instructions!

I had an alarm system installed on my pre 14 softail and a code which had selected programmed into it. It’s been years I did that. Now I do not know PIN numbers here is my question. How do I redo it with out going to Harley to reprogram a new number? Or can I reprogram a new code with key fob at hand?
You can set a new PIN with the FOB.

Thanks, Ryan. I finally got it to program. Geez! Harley gave me this 15 minute ritual that didn't work after 4-5 attempts. However: How do I use this feature AFTER it's programmed. Such as when I'm without my key FOB? This meaning if I'm out AND have the security system set and lost my FOB?

I recently purchased a 2011 Street Glide and lost the fob while riding. I tried your process numerous times and unfortunately it didn't work for me. It won't go into security PIN code recognition for me, after the three turn signal sequence followed by the one right. My local dealer stated I can only override it if I have the PIN, which the previous owner did not provide me. They're stating I need to change out the security system. Any thoughts?
